  1. Was Omar Vizquel dead for the late 90's? If not, this argument is mute.
  2. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 6, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) One again, Ebaum is stealing material from YTMND. Oh please. They're both stealing from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
  3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 6, 2006 -> 12:55 AM) They have pizza in Iowa? Yeah, and if you stop in at 6AM, they'll probably have one with eggs and sausage spinnin around in the display case.
  4. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 5, 2006 -> 11:43 PM) And we were up 2-1 going into the top of the 9th. I agree with you a lot, but I can't on this one. Just by playing his best defense tonight, we should have gone to the 9th up 2-0. That ball Gload couldn't get to is probably an out with Mack in right, and definitely an out if JD was healthy (and no I'm not blaming Ozzie for not playing JD) Using our best defense with Garland on the mound should be imperative. He's the Sox pitcher who relies most on his defense, and I don't think he's seen a solid defense behind him yet in his first 6 starts.
  5. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 5, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) And you know that had nothing to do with anything tonight. It was a 1-run loss that sure quacked like a duck.
  6. # of Subs Record 0 9-0 1 4-3 2 6-1 3 1-5
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 5, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) Random question but how has Ross looked in right the past few games? Has he at least been serviceable out there? He's Timo-esque, but he doesn't really belong in right with his arm.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ May 5, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) AJP = Warning Track Power. If this was last year, I would have wondered if he was off the juice. He had a bunch of barely-HRs at Comiskey last year -- Ones that would be doubles in most parks, and certainly his old home parks -- His doubles were also down. He entered last season hitting a HR on about 7% of his Flyballs. In 2005, he doubled that to 14% of his flyballs going for HRs. He's not a HR hitter at all. 10-14 is all we should expect.
  9. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 5, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) One component of their team which I wouldn't mind having is their bullpen. Some lively young arms the Royals have. Unfortunately, as the cruel fate of baseball has it, starting pitching and offensive production remains slightly more important. Both areas the Royals are horrendous. And with their luck, they'll have the first draft pick during a year in which no superstarts emerge. Always seems to miss the Prior's, Upton's, Mauer's, etc. Alex Gordon is pretty damn good. He was far and away the best college hitter available last draft
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 5, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) Marte's ERA is nice. Vizcaino's is too. And they're both higher than Boone Logan's ERA is a deceiving stat fro relievers
  11. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ May 4, 2006 -> 11:59 PM) AVG .303 | HR 4 | RBI 14 | OBP .350 | SLG .468 Why wouldn't they take Anderson instead of AROW? :headshake They should have taken a package that included his #1 fanboy.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) How many teams haven't had a top 10 pick in 15 years? two White Sox & Atlanta
  13. Javier Guatemala now thinks he's a power hitter. He's swinging hard and hoping he hits it. His average is down to .306, and he's coaxed just a single walk out of opposing pitchers in 72 at bats. Even more troubling, he's striking out at an astounding rate (30.5% of ABs) I've also been interested in Kanny's lineup construction. After Javier's hot start, and stint on the DL, he was placed back in the lineup at an RBI positition. So the increase in strikeouts since he got off the DL may be a case of either his finger injury, a different approach at the plate, or both. Also Aaron Cunningham, who's been Kanny's best hitter, originally started in the middle of the lineup, but is now batting leadoff. This is what it's come to in Kanny. Cunningham leads the team with 6 walks, and has the highest OBP of any regular.
  14. QUOTE(PaHs @ May 2, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) I would absolutely take Pods over Granderson or Freel anyday. Granderson hasn't proven anything, and neither has Freel. Granderson had a .900 OPS at the minor league level, had an .800 OPS last year, and currently has an .824 OPS. Oh and hes got some great range in CF (though no arm to speak of) Freel has done nothing but grind out a .370 OBP since he hit the big leagues. I suppose those numbers pale in comparison to Pods' gaudy .345 career OBP and .730 OPS. It amazes me that so many people have their head in the proverbial sand when it comes to Podsednik's limited skill set.
  15. QUOTE(PaHs @ May 2, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) He is an adequate left fielder, and is one of the top 5 leadoff men in the game.... will everybody chill the hell out and be patient.... we are hardly 20 games into the season, and he is just catching fire now. Johnny Damon Grady Sizemore Ichiro Ryan Freel Chone Figgins Curtis Granderson Are all guys who both play OF and are far superior than Scott Podsednik as a leadoff man. If you expand it to include guys who are about equal or play the infield, this list doubles.
  16. Hawk heaping tons of praise on a pitcher = Sox shutout
  17. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 2, 2006 -> 02:17 AM) When all is said and done, Ozzie gets to pick 7 players I think, 4 pitchers and 3 position players, or the other way around, depending on the final man ballot. That's not even close to how it's done. Ozzie picks all of the pitchers, and all but the 8 voted starters and final man. He does have to make sure he selects a representative from each team, however.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 1, 2006 -> 11:23 PM) A league full of guys that haven't seen you + mixing your pitches better=Bronson Arroyo at the moment. He's got an exploding slider right now. It's breaking 12-18 inches. He could have an incredible season, but I don't think he's likely to keep his stuff and control for the whole year.
  19. You stole 4 bases off of Victor Martinez!? You expect me to get excited about that? You're supposed to steal 4 bases off of V-Mart.
  20. I hope this makes some of you who thought about booing Thomas rethink your actions. You're only making yourself, the fans around you, and your city look bad. You wanna really mess with Frank, make him try and hit a 95 MPH fastball with tears in his eyes.
  21. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 1, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) Fitting, with our road record last year (best in the bigs). 52-29 in the regular season, and 6-0 in the playoffs. Oh, and we had won 10 straight in the grays prior to the current 3-game skid.
