So I did this exercise I've been doing each year for a while now: I projected the OPS of each player and the number of PAs each guy would get. I was fairly conservative with most players' OPS and maybe a bit aggressive with playing time, though I only had Anderson and Abreu playing > 90% of games. I ended up with a team OPS of .778. That would have ranked 3rd last year behind Toronto and Houston.

If Moncada is out for an extended period of time, do you want Burger's bat at 3B or do you want Leury/Harrison?

I was looking through batter vs pitcher data to make my pick and noticed that TA is 0 for 14 against Eduardo Rodriguez so maybe being suspended for that game isn't a bad thing.

If he has family and some sort of semi-permanent home somewhere in the US, he might as well go there and wait until he's traded or claimed. If he doesn't have that, then yeah, just stay in Arizona.

There's really two colliding trains of thought. Vaughn needs to be playing everyday because that's the only way he's going to improve vs RHP Sheets is one of the best hitters on the team vs RHP and needs to be in the lineup. Maybe Eloy or Jose get some days off vs RHP in order to get both of them in the lineup. If Sheets isn't going to be in the lineup at least 2/3 of the time they're facing a righty, then he really ought to be at Charlotte playing every day.

If Madrigal plays 140+ games, he'll be significantly better than the Leury/Harrison platoon, but I don't give very good odds that Madrigal plays 140+ games. I don't expect Eloy or Luis to suffer significant injuries again. Those were fluke things. They aren't injury prone like Madrigal. Even if Pollock only plays 100 games that will be an upgrade in RF. Hopefully we have Grandal for a full season. While we all like the defensive upgrade in McGuire, the offense would suffer if he has to catch much more than 40 games. Moncada is the one I really worry about. I'm worried that he may struggle to recover from long COVID (if that's what is affecting him). I wouldn't be surprised to see regression from him.

Like I said, Sousa will go when Lynn or Kelly come off the IL.
