Is anybody else worried Jake, the gamer that he is, is going to get hurt very early this season? I'd love to see him start ASAP, but this time shouldn't he take it really slowly?
-
I love his name. What a great name. Lastings Milledge. My gosh. He may have the best name in baseball.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 10:48 PM) No real Sox fan would deface that statue considering his roots with our club as well. Tasteless. I agree. Sox fans should love Harry as well. He was great embassador for the Sox.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) Then no team is all in. I'd agree with that. I don't think what we've done by any means says the Sox are "all in."
-
QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) Agreed. Good off-season marketing, but I really hope they go with a different campaign once they start playing ball. I agree. It's stupid because we're not really all-in when you think about other teams who are as good or better than us on paper. Stupid slogan. You are not all-in when you have a lot of question marks. I mean the slogan should be "Right There." This team should be right there, but it ain't all in. I wouldn't bet 10 bucks in Vegas that we'll even beat the Twins much less bet the house.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 10:47 PM) This. Really seems like a no-brainer to me too scenario. Gotta prove you've still got it. Exactly. If he can play, the team he's with will know by the end of spring training. How can he expect somebody to bow down and give him a guaranteed deal after he sat out a year?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) You're probably right, but the difference between this year and last, is the White Sox are counting on Teahen to provide absolutely nothing. Chances are he's a bust again, but anything he gives you that is positive is gravy. His contract is signed, the Sox are most likely stuck with him, maybe something clicks. Obviously we are in the fluff portion of the year, and everyone had a great offseason, is in the greatest shape of their career, and is primed to have the best year of their career. Most of the time, they wind up being who we thought they were. Sometimes there is a surprise. I'm not saying Teahen will surprise. I believe he won't. But there's always a chance. That's a damn fine post.

2011 Twins talent vs. White Sox talent
greg775 replied to ChicagoWhiteSUX6outoflast9's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (WhiteSUX @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 03:19 AM) Ok guys. But seriously, what do you think of your team this year? Is Dunn going to make any difference? Jesse Crain really isn't that bad and wish we could have kept him. Best of luck to you this year and would like to hear your thoughts on us? QUOTE (WhiteSUX @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 03:38 AM) Another question I would like to ask all of you is your general feelings regarding Ozzie as manager. I know he has had some success there in the past, but as a fanbase are you in support of Ozzie, embarrassed by some of his antics, or just simply ready for a change? Personally I think his days are numbered if not successful this year. a.) Ilike our team this year, but we need to start beating your team (last year's record vs. the Twins was ridiculously bad) and other teams in the division. If we play like we did last year against our division we won't win squat. b.) I love Ozzie. -
Bears versus Packers game thread
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The guy seen on TV burning Cutler's jersey is a f***ing moron, unless he was a Packer fan playing games with the media. The guy sleeps in bed with the jersey the week before, burns it the next week. Urlacher is a great Chicago Bear. He said Cutler is tough. Case closed. Cutler was hurt. I trust Urlacher's opinion. Packers by the way had a better team. Bears still have some work to do, though the defense played proud. -
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) i dont think its all just about success. its kind of..wrong , i guess, that the sox say how more fans need to go or go when the team wins but its not exactly the cheapest thing to go to. i went to 6 games last year but its just me and my husband. but for a family of, say 4, its expensive. bleachers at 38 a person and parking, thats 175 dollars. and thats not including drinks, food, etc. so its not exactly that easy to say hey lets go to a sox game, especially not multiple times a year. This is a great thread. You never hear these kind of stories. I pity you guys cause there was a time baseball was very very cheap to go to. And it was still entertaining white sox baseball many of those years. There was no reason for this wild escalation of salaries and ticket prices and parking except for owners' greed. Unfortunately now it's way too expensive for many hard working southsiders to go to games.

Maybe your points on Thornton and Beckham support your position on this. But Paulie had the power to leave and didn't. That's an overall indicator that things in his world are fine. I think this is all stupid. Most teams have placid managers. Ozzie and Piniella are two of the rare ones who steal headlines with things they say. What's wrong with that? I'll take interesting over dull media bullies any day.

Bears versus Packers game thread

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 04:32 AM) No offense but the guy doesn't exactly have the attitude I want to see out of my quarterback. I don't know about that. He was hurt. Yes it's frustrating, but he was hurt. As far as his sideline demeanor, isn't he a clone of AJP? Both have the smirk. Big deal. Urlacher stood up for him and seemed pissed at the media and arm chair quarterbacks. Urlacher's stance is good enough for me. Some fan just got pub on ESPN for burning Cutler's jersey. What a dumbass fan. Winning is everything. What a s*** attitude some people have about sports. CUTLER WAS HURT. -
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 09:12 AM) you're oblivious to the world around you it seems QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) You mean like Konerko, Thornton, and Beckham all saying they're sick of the distractions and the soap opera? Oblivious to the world around me? Because I don't think this was (is) a big deal? Why is this a big deal? Give me one reason. And to Fathom's comment, Paulie would be long gone if he thought this was a problem. He had a chance to leave and didn't. That to me indicates he does not loathe Ozzie or the soap opera. I don't recall Thornton's quotes being outrageous. Didn't see Beckham's.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) Just rid the organization of the Guillen family! How many players from last year's team have to say the Guillen's are a distraction before JR steps in? Me thinks you overreact a tad. This is not a big deal ... again.
-
On paper it sounds great. He's got some experience now. He should be a great No. 2 hitter. Reality though ... if Gordon sucks early, bye bye No. 2 hole, Gordon.
-
I just knew there was no way he could go into the season with this hanging over his head. It would have been a huge distraction. Ozzie wins this battle. He figures to lose the war eventually as almost all managers get fired someday. Good job, Oz.
-
Call me a dummy, but I thought he had potential at third.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 03:49 AM) What a great signing. He put up a 1.6 WAR and only played half a season. Didn't Manny wait like 20 games to record his first RBI as a Sox? And this is a great signing? He stunk in a Sox uniform. And don't make excuses for Manny anybody, please? Manny, the ass that he's been, doesn't need anybody making excuses for him. He stunk as a Sox.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 09:16 PM) Andruw Jones is now a Yankee making $2M for one year of play and $1.2M in performance bonuses. Wow. The Yankees think he has something left in the tank. I won't miss him, but I'm also not crazy about Teahen out there. Isn't Danks ready to be a backup outfielder? How come every other sport promotes young guys quickly but not baseball? Let.Danks.Play.
-
I hope Ozzie doesn't play Teahen much if at all at 3B. He could cost us games and you know how valuable games are, considering we piss so many away as it is in our own division. I mean Teahen can't catch and throw the ball.
-
I think the Royals may have their worst team ever this season and for them, that's saying a lot.
-
Since it's slow out here, and nobody responded to my Chet Lemon mention, any Chet Lemon takes on here? Do you guys agree he was a good to great defensive centerfielder? Or do you think he was trash? Or simply ordinary? I think he had a good glove and was fun to watch. Also could put the bat on the ball. Had some pop.

QUOTE (kevo880 @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 10:30 PM) Nice, I moved to Denver recently. It would be great to see Crede at Coors! QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 11:25 PM) Wish him nothing but the best. Classy post Rowand. I wish him well, as well. That would be cool if he truly is recovered like his unpopular agent says.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 07:56 PM) He just walked away from $12 million. Wow. Lot of talk about this in KC. People are furious at Glass for inheriting the 12 million bucks. Also Meche is getting praised for not reporting to ST and complaining of the sore arm and still getting to keep the 12 mill. It'd be hard for many people to not do just that. What's your take on Mr. Meche giving KC the 12 million instead of just showing up for spring training with a rag arm, being unable to pitch and being put on the DL?? My take is it's pretty f***ing commendable of Meche. And the owner, Glass, should purchase whatever remaining arms their are on the market, cause KC's starters are pure s***.

I actually wouldn't mind this trade. Joba might need a change of scenery and like you said, Sale could start.
