Maybe your points on Thornton and Beckham support your position on this. But Paulie had the power to leave and didn't. That's an overall indicator that things in his world are fine. I think this is all stupid. Most teams have placid managers. Ozzie and Piniella are two of the rare ones who steal headlines with things they say. What's wrong with that? I'll take interesting over dull media bullies any day.

I just knew there was no way he could go into the season with this hanging over his head. It would have been a huge distraction. Ozzie wins this battle. He figures to lose the war eventually as almost all managers get fired someday. Good job, Oz.

I think the Royals may have their worst team ever this season and for them, that's saying a lot.

Since it's slow out here, and nobody responded to my Chet Lemon mention, any Chet Lemon takes on here? Do you guys agree he was a good to great defensive centerfielder? Or do you think he was trash? Or simply ordinary? I think he had a good glove and was fun to watch. Also could put the bat on the ball. Had some pop.

Let's face it, if Jimmy were far away from us, like in Toronto we wouldn't mind this so much. But he's in Minnesota ready to try to burn us again. I'd rather have Dunn. Hopefully Thome will start to show age. He was pretty f***ing good last year. I'm sick of the Twins. At some point won't the magic leave Minnesota? Their domination of us last year was really annoying.

As far as greatest Sox defensive plays I ever saw, you may laugh, but Chet Lemon made a diving catch one time that was f***ing unbelievable. The game was on TV and there was a blast in the gap, more of a deep liner than a fly ball. He went from leftcenter to rightcenter, or vice versa, I forget, and dove full out and made the catch. He wasn't even in the picture or close to being in the picture and laid full out to make that unreal catch. Our teams weren't all that great back then, but Chet Lemon made some remarkable catches. One time I met him and in a non fanatical way asked him about his favorite defensive plays. I mentioned the one I'm talking about and he described it better than I am now. I remember getting into a near fight in the stands one time with some guy who didn't like Chet for uh, let's say, racial reasons.
