  1. We're never going to win the division until we can at least to return to the .500 days against Minnesota. It also would help if teams like KC could play Minnie at least as tough as they play us. Until then ... we lose the division to those bastards every single year.
  2. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 02:09 AM) It's because no one cares about the Twins. Seriously. QUOTE (Real @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 02:32 AM) Most accurate post in this thread. Changes need to be made, because we need to get guys in here who haven't been mindf***ed by the Twins franchise. That definitely means Ozzie Guillen has to go, and I wouldn't shed a tear if AJ was gone as well as Danks/Floyd. Neither of those guys can come up big for us anymore when we need them, bed wetters. Post 1: Exactly, that's why I want Twins to win it all. Maybe then people will get up to play them. Ozzie Guillen does not need to go. The team was "in the race" sort of until late August and has a winning record. Why the f*** would you fire him considering his track record? Change his job to manager, not GM anymore. Give him the players and have him work with them. The Twins I do agree will be heavy favorites to win the division by at least as many games next year as they are this year. They are up 9 after tomorrow and will win the division by double digits. Wow. Time to improve the team, KW.
  3. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 02:51 AM) I forgot, he was here in 2005. Maybe we can get Willie Harris, Timo Perez, the legend of Aaron Rowand and get the band back together. Take a look at his second half record since he has been here. If his name was Manuel, he would of been gone already. But because he was on the 05 team you have shrine built to him. This reminds me of Bears fans not letting go of the 85 team. Eventually you can't ride on that crap forever. Build him a statue, and move on. I love the fact he led us to the WS title, but he's done nothing this season to deserve the axe. Nothing.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 02:46 AM) I know I'm the most Anti-Ozzie guy on here, but is there still any real doubt that there needs to be a shake up with the KW/Ozzie/Walker/Cooper foursome? I can't imagine even the most optimstic/Ozzie supporters would disagree. I would disagree. Why the f*** would we fire Ozzie over this?
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 02:37 AM) This starting pitching is not special, and hasn't been for a complete season since....you guessed it, 2005. The Sox must disagree since they dealt some pretty f***ing good starting pitchers the last few years. So what starters do you want to deal? Who replaces them? I know ... Clayton Richard, Hudson, Gio ... oh wait. they aren't with the team anymore. You guys want to blow up the rotation as well? That makes no sense unless the "rebuilding" means being the Royals the next 10 years.
  6. I agree I'd rather see somebody young, anybody really, play next year instead of Juan and Omar and AJ. But why blow up the rotation?
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 02:33 AM) lol@some fans being against a rebuild. You'd rather go through this crap every year? The Twins own us. It's that simple. And they're only going to get better. The point is ... What the f*** does rebuild mean?? Finishing 20 under for 5 straight years instead of 10 over? We need to ride out this pitching staff and change the lineup again. "On paper" our starting pitching and bullpen is supposed to be special. Admittedly we have not seen that on a consistent basis.
  8. Someday we will beat the Twins. Maybe? It doesn't matter what park we play them in. Twins win. Nice way to pitch out of it after the Beckham boot, Gavin. Way to immediately get taken deep.
  9. Excellent post. The bipolar aspect of the Sox drives a lot of us crazy.
  10. Probably after we're done with Minnesota. I hate seeing the Twins score and tonight figures to be brutal with Thome probably whacking 2 homers.
  11. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) On a case by case basis, Edwin Jackson is still kicking Hudson's butt. And we got him because we needed results now for a pennant race With Gio, the only problem I have is that because of Guillen's nightmare ego/personality we had to give up Swisher for basically nothing. Clayton's got a 3.70 ERA in the best pitcher's park in baseball. And it's in the NL. And it's in the NL West. That grades out probably to a notch or so above average in the AL. Looks worse only in hindsight with Peavy's injury. It's the Swisher to the Yankees deal that I think is the worst during Kenny's tenure (and I blame Ozzie). He could have been playing right field all year with Quentin at DH, Kotsay on a fishing boat somewhere, and we would have clinched the division by now (joking). You have the right to be mad about Swisher, but it wasn't meant to be here. He sucked in a Sox uniform and didn't I read somewhere that not only Ozzie hated his cocky ass? Sometimes it doesn't work out, ala Teahen. I hope they can dump Teahen on the Yankees as they did Swish.
  12. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) I vote for a better relationship between the GM and manager -- regardless of who fills either office. Don't see how the franchise can move forward with the continuous hissing contests that have existed this year. Don't think they have the same vision for what kind of team they prefer. And as for the young pitchers, having a starter (or two) making the minimum is a very valuable commodity. And the Sox have dealt away three of those guys. With the season officially ending last night, it's time to vent. Nice vent. Good post.
  13. Does Hahn have a track record? Does he know what he's doing? I'd boot Kenny. Keep Ozzie but revamp the team back to a plodding home run hitting team to go with our supposed great pitching staff. I'd never bunt to keep Soxtalk happy and tell Ozzie no NL style ball anymore. With all the home run hitters, I'd still put a great defensive team out there somehow as well. Fire Kenny. Keep Ozzie. Pray Hahn is good GM.
  14. I'll watch on mlb.com but I must confess I usually only watch our at bats if things get rocky. We're at the stage of the season it depresses me to see Minnesota score runs. Last night when Danks hit the leadoff hitter, I turned it off til we came up to bat. Way to immediately give up the 3-2 lead. Of course watching us bat can be frustrating too. Had the bases loaded, AJ double play "drives in" one run. Then I think it was Lexi who made an out. That half inning SUCKED.
  15. Does Paulie even want to come back to the Sox? He might want the proverbial change of scenery. The past couple seasons have been pretty f***ed up for our organization. I'm sure Thome has had a blast in Minnie. Do we even know if Paulie wants to come back? He's probably too classy to say anything but yes in the media. I like Ozzie but does he want to leave the circus?
  16. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) I'll be honest and say I approved of the move. I really didn't care about his hair or the fact that he was a former 'roider. I didn't care because it was going to be for a month. Even before I saw his lackluster hitting since the acquisition I didn't want the Sox to bring him back. In hindsight I still don't abhore the move. KW tried to make a move that would improve the team, and it was a gamble. So far it's a losing gamble, and it will most likely be meaningless since the chance of making the playoffs is slim at best. But, Greg, a bum? Come on, that's really not a good picture of what he is. Self-centered jack-ass? Sure. I just picture a sloppy guy sitting in the dugout scratching his balls when I hear him described as a bum. Self centered jack ass works for me. I'll go with that one from now over bum. No problem with me doing that. Nice hit last night Manny, when we needed it.
  17. I don't care about the bulls***, "He's only in the NL argument." This Hudson story is sad. One of the few prospects we have worth a s*** in recent years and bam, we trade him for another pitcher who makes way more money. Stupid s***. As much as we b**** about the same things on here over and over ... bunting, Kotsay, Thome, Jenks ... I'd be all for thread after thread lamenting the loss of Hudson. Oh I forgot. We don't care because he's only doing it in the NL.
  18. QUOTE (Little Nell @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) What a waste of 4 million bucks. Good thing you weren't here when the Sox acquired him. It was a popular move except by a few who thought he was a bum.
  19. Yeah but there are no guarantees. Royals, Pirates, O's, Indians, haven't they all been trying to rebuild that way? As painful as this season has been, we have what most baseball people think is potentially a great staff. We have to keep that staff intact and tinker some more and make some big time changes with the everyday lineup.
  20. Our fans might as well give Thome all standing ovations the rest of the series. He's the division champ. When we were still realistically in it the Sox make one move: Jackson for Hudson. Brilliant. Then we add Manny way too late. And Manny has no ribbies. Great.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 06:11 AM) That's a bootleg greg. No way would he ever type that. I love Bobby, but he's old news. He's buzzkill to most of our fans so he has to go. Negative vibes. I hope he goes to the NL, though. Seriously ... why can't our pitching staff take the next step to domination? Are these starters just nice starters and not capable of greatness? The bullpen guys ... they've all had moments of crap.
  22. Well enough of the false optimism. Nothing works. We can't beat those f***ers. 5-11 versus Minnesota. That's the season right there. Incomprehensible. I love Ozzie and like KW but I hope Jerry takes them both in an office after the season and rips them a new one. Just figure out a way to make Chicago more competitive against teams in this division. My god.
  23. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 05:22 AM) A team in a market like Chicago, crying about money, and not being able to spend on talent, is ridiculous. If you spend on talent, the money is there to be made. We aren't a small market here. If the Sox competed every year like the Yankees, the Cell would be FULL more often than not. Just common sense. The better the team, the more people go to games, the more people drink at games, the more people buy merchandise.... What you say may be right, but it doesn't matter. Jerry does cry about money and won't spend with thei biggest of the boys. We are going to have a mighty expensive rotation. It's time for those guys to step up and dominate. Danks, Floyd, Peavy, Jackson and Mark ... on paper, WOW! In reality, we've seen them all be very good; all suck. Because of their potential to be the best fivesome in the league, it'd be best to keep them, keep Putz, Thornton, Sergio and Sale, let Bobby walk and tinker with the lineup again. To save money, I'd dump Rios to the Yankees or Bosox. He had a great year. Keep Quentin or dump him as well and again, look for replacements via free agency or Danks/mitchell time. Also let AJP walk and dump Teahen to the Mets for a Class A player. We have to keep the rotation and bullpen minus Bobby intact to have any shot at the division title IMO. In short ... keep all the pitchers except for Bob, Linebrink, Pena, totally revamp the everyday lineup again. Make room for Viciedo in that lineup.
  24. I'd rather start with Minnesota and see if it's gonna be the same ol s*** for another season.
  25. Ridiculous pickup. We were already 3/4 buried when he arrived.
