Chicago White Sox. Kansas City Royals 1:05 PM CT

Minnie won again. They could be 7 up for the big series. What a joke. What fans will go to that? Even if we won all 3 it wouldn't mean jack. I guess for pride's sake, trying to keep them from being 10 up on us. -
Konerko's stroke is so sweet. You can see why he didn't need steroids to hit homers. Has a decent body and just a great home run stroke. What I've loved about him is he also strokes singles and doubles when the team needs them.

Konerko should give half his September salary for Manny for helping him build up his numbers. -
Somebody like Zelig makes a great counterargument and the Thome lovers go away. I see nobody's responding to Zelig, so I bring it up. The Thome argument is not cut and dried. And killing a thread about Thome? Gee, sorry, like the subject isn't in every thread. What is a good thread? Somebody makes a point and everybody agrees I guess and feels better. Thome great; Kotsay sucks; let's get on with the day. Thome is one of my favorite Sox ever. He is class and like somebody said earlier he's deep down loving what he's doing to a team that didn't want him. Of course he is and gets the last laugh this year.

I don't think anybody has quit. This team has played like this against Central Division teams all year. Paulie is a god. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) I like Quentin. He needs to harness his energy in the right direction and that is hard hit balls going over the fence 35 to 45 times a year, He should stay with the Sox I like him, too, but he's been a big reason for our offensive woes.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Let me guess, the Thome for Rowand deal was a bad trade? Although you are right about how many people wanted Thome gone last year, it doesn't mean they're complete idiots. I'm tired of trying to play NL baseball in the AL. Yeah the "rotating DH" is a great idea if you know, you actually have the talent to pull it off. This is on Ozzie and only Ozzie. It's what he wanted. The White Sox left a lot of runs on the table by not resigning Thome and it hurt them the first two months of the season. Leonard Zelig is da man. He said it best IMO. As far as the above post, I don't argue with it as much as say to all of you Thome people, who cares? Our team was in the race and still had a shot at the all star break. Instead of building on we had, for whatever reason, we couldn't get Dunn or anybody and we faded away. This should be a reminder every year to not be fooled that teams don't need upgrading at the trade deadline. As a Sox fan and competitor I choose to not praise Thome every single day and lament his loss. I wanted to beat his ass, instead the Sox whimpered away, losing losing losing to Central Division teams all the time and failing to upgrade. Yes in hindsight we needed Thome I guess, but Leonard's points cannot be denied!!!!

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) The good news today is Paul Konerko. 35 homers and 101 RBI's. Now we will see the inevitable posts on how he is at the end of his career and we should trade him. He needs to stay that's my opinion He has to stay or the Cell will be very empty next season. -
The Hangover was a great movie but not an all timer. Mike Tyson's role was awesome. I'd give it an A-.
-
I still think there was no urgency to make a deal cause Paulie, Oz, KW all wanted to stay pat. They were wrong.
-
Of course it will be a black mark, cause we failed and didn't win division w/out Thome. But I'm saying we had options to COMPETE and win it w/out Thome, not sit back and misidentify the fact we needed a bat at the break or TWO BATS. Sox not only blew it in preseason but blew it at midseason. We were FINE w/out Thome. We could have stuck it to them and competed with them all the way even though they had Jim Thome. Sox were right there at the break and you guys IMO are acting like wimps saying, 'Oh we couldn't win without Thome.' Big bad Oz and Kenny. I'm saying we had it. We add somebody besides Thome at the break and we're fine.
-
Why not respond to my point! We were in it without Thome. Sox decided to not tamper with chemistry and add a player or two except a pitcher when we had a good one already in Huddy.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 06:46 AM) Greg don't you remember everybody ripping you last year about it being time to let go of Crede? Yes. But this Thome thing is ridiculous. Nobody points out to me my counter argument that we were in the race without Thome at the break. We just didn't add the bat we needed at the time. -
LOL On and on about Thome. Thome didn't cost us the division. We could have picked up a similar DH. KW listened to Oz. It's both their faults. It's second guessing about Thome. This board had so much Thome hate his final year here. I hope Thome leads them to the WS title. Once and for all, Minnie, go for it. And the Ozzie haters may get their wish of his firing. Surely Thome will bury us in that 3 game series some more and Oz just might freak out where he throws something or injures a writer and finally gets fired for good. He's sensitive about the Thome thing. You guys on this Thome kick fail to accept one fact. We were in the race w/out Thome. We did not add to the team at the AS Break. We stood pat and paid for it. We could have responded like competitors and added a bat. We were right there with Minnie. Sox thought they could stand pat. Halfway through the season we were right there WOUT THOME. Sox could have but didn't add the bat to continue competing with Minnie. But keep dreaming about Jimmy Thome who so many wanted out of town and were so happy he went to the Dodgers.

You guys are all second guessing deluxe. Nobody knew Thome would succeed this year, just as nobody knew Crede would suck last year. One man did not ruin our season. Our pitching has failed us on MANY occasions. We have many holes in our lineup, not just the absence of Thome who many Sox fans wanted to run out of town. Second guessing is easy but not always right. -

Well let's hope they make better decisions next year. I prefer to not dwell on this Thome crap. There are tons of reasons we ain't winning s***. And we need major changes for next year. We are closer to being a .440 team than a .650 team. We acquired Teahen. He sucked. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 06:09 AM) It is impossible to say whether the Sox would win the division with Thome but we certainly would be in a much better position to win it with Thome than without him. With Thome this team likely has 3 or 4 more wins than they do right now and if you take Thome off the Twins they are probably a couple of games worse which obviously would put the Sox in great position to win the division. Stil the Sox were right there at the AS Break. Kenny, Ozzie, Paulie et. all said no changes were necessary. They were wrong. Then we trade a future star in Hudson for Jackson, who has been fine. -
He stunk. And imagine what's gonna happen to Freddy on Sunday.

How do you know he'd have done this with the Sox? WIth Thome you think we win this division? I don't. We actually were in pretty good shape but the Sox refused to make a move and again it was the wrong decision. We were doing just fine w/out Thome. Sox had a chance to improve and passed on it. The Sox were supposed to dominate on the mound. I wouldn't call what our starters have done as domination. -
I hope he hits 15 home runs this postseason and the Thome-led Twinks finally win it all. Maybe then the jinx will end and we'll get back on top.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 04:30 AM) Half of Soxtalk is also stupid and thinks Thome wasn't a great player for the Sox so I don't give a damn what they think. If you sign a competent DH then letting Thome go is fine. Deciding to go with Mark f***ing Kotsay when there were better option available for basically nothing is one of the dumbest decisions imaginable and the fact that Ozzie thought this was a good move makes me really question his ability to determine what a good baseball player is. I agree Oz should not be the GM. He should manage the talent. That didn't happen with this decision. Shame on Kenny for letting Oz make the call. But you must admit our team is perplexing. We go 25-5 and look iike we'll never lose. All the players and KW think we can stay pat and Oz. And we make no move, and guess what, WE NEEDED HELP. The 25-5 and 38-13 was great but we needed more. That Thome thing did not cost us the season. Right now WE CANT BEAT TEAMS IN THE CENTRAL and that isn't cause of our DH situation. The one move we made was stupid. Jackson for Hudson. Manny arrived too late. And off steroids, he looks like a husky singles hitter to me. Big deal. -

With the magical season Thome is having, I wonder if he cherishes this one season more than his whole stay in Chicago? It's a pretty special run he is on. -
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 04:21 AM) I thought the Sox would come home and be geared up for this homestand. They just look completely flat. Hopes dashed, etc, etc... Lots of tinkering needed. Twins ain't going anywhere next season.

38-13 was an amazing middle to a frustrating season. We just can't beat teams in our own division. We just can't do it the last 2 seasons.
