08/29/10 - Yankees(Nova) Vs Sox(Floyd)
I'd rather see Teahen stroke a f***ing hit. We win the game if he lines a shot to the corner.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 09:12 PM) Yep greg, he was the hero last night. Please quote one post that said as much. Read the end of the thread where I was ripping him for using that ridiculously large bat and his K to walk ratio in his career. You'd have thought I was defending Wise or Kotsay.

I don't know why Lexi didn't slam that 2-0 pitch. What's he looking for?

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 08:06 PM) Andruw 0-3, Teahen 0-2....come on Ozzie! Teahen was a hero in the game thread last night. I was getting slammed to the ground for daring to say he's a very very mediocre to bad hitter. He of the large bat.

Not me. There were plenty of games against the Royals and O's and Indians that cost us this season as well as the faceplants vs. the Twinks.

Do you guys think today is the season? If we win, we in it; if we lose we gawn?

Too bad Omar isn't 12 years younger. I could get used to his good glove at third base for a long time to come. I love the way he plays the position.

8/28 Gamethread - Danks v. Yank$;
Yes but we didn't acquire him as a bench player. If he had played third all year instead of good glove Omar, you could argue we'd have never been in the race. Omar has made some great plays and makes ALL the routine ones. Mark? Yikes. And KW penciled him in as everyday 3B.

8/28 Gamethread - Danks v. Yank$;
That may be why he has only two walks in all those plate appearances, right. His career walks to strikeouts are as bad as anybody in baseball. How do you account for his lousy walk to strikeout ratio last year. He looks like a clown up there using that big bat. He took a decent number of walks in all those at bats last year?? For a non power guy?? And the point of my post was he had no chance in hell to get a hit off a good closer. None. Oh wait, he was 1-for-7 against him coming in. He had a slight prayer to get a hit. OK he's an average player. He's about 50 times better than Mark Kotsay, but I'm very pissed off he had no chance to get a hit off Rivera tonight. I laughed and called co=workers over to the TV as he approached the plate. I said he'd strike out or ground out to second. He popped to second. One Royals fan said he'd stroke a hit to left.

8/28 Gamethread - Danks v. Yank$;
We can agree to disagree. That bat is too f***ing big for a guy like Teahen. And how come all his supporters won't comment on those stats I provided about how his strikeout to walk ratio is about as bad as it gets? The guy is a horrible fielder and a crummy hitter.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
Don't you guys wish we'd acquired a Manny type player right after the break when we were in first place? Why do we always gotta wait so long? I know ... Berkman, Mr. DL turned down the trade.

A year-in review?
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 05:19 AM) I know what you mean. I'm wondering who are the real White Sox at this point? I've come to accept losing to the Twins is a given even if they were the worst team in baseball. Me too. I hate to be completely negative but I have to think even if we somehow got back into it, they'd take 2 of 3 from us in that final series. Weird team our Sox.

8/28 Gamethread - Danks v. Yank$;
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 04:28 AM) How can you blame Teahen for not getting a hit off Rivera? Seriously...how? Left handed hitters hit .198 off of Rivera throughout his career. It doesn't matter who is hitting, more likely than not, a left handed hitter will fail to get a hit 80% of the time when they face Rivera. And anybody who fails more than 80% at getting hits is a bad hitter. So Mark Teahen is not alone and you can't say he f***ed up because he couldn't get a hit off of one of the best closers of all time. You can hate on Mark Teahen, he's not a great player by any means, but saying he sucks because he can't get a hit off of Rivera is unfair. Why don't you read my posts closer to get the points I'm trying to make? I'm not going to defend myself, too much energy involved tonight after a s***ty loss.

Wow. I figured it had to be a line thrown in the water when Wise was referred to as a fellow scrub.

Threets has torn UCL, will need Tommy John
That's sad at how many pitchers go down in a given season. This has nothing to do with Threets, but a possible theory is pitchers get overworked so much in youth leagues and high school ball, that by the time they are on pitch counts in the bigs, their arms are timebombs just waiting to go off at some point. Will Brandon McCarthy ever come back from his shoulder surgery? I bet that's doubtful. So many pitchers. Sad for them. I'd love to see a thread asking Sox talkers to discuss their days as a pitcher. What's the most pitches you ever threw in a LL or Babe Ruth or Pony League or high school game or American Legion and did you ever need surgery or does your arm still hurt at times?

8/28 Gamethread - Danks v. Yank$;
I knew somebody was going to say that was a line drive. That was a weak ass "line drive." Maybe if he didn't bring a huge 2 by 4 piece of lumber up there he'd have a chance to be a serviceable baseball player. I said Mariano is great as a caveat. My point was no way in hell a stud like Rivera was going to let a scrub like Teahen keep that inning going. Yes, Rivera does it to everyone. I know. In his last 37 plate appearances, he has 2 walks and 10 strikeouts; about right for him. Last year in 561 plate appearances he had 37 walks and 123 Ks. That is really really sad.

8/28 Gamethread - Danks v. Yank$;
Lot of guys thrown under the bus in this thread. Let me add my guys to toss under the bus. Teahen: Yes, I know Mariano is tough to hit, but my god, you knew he had absolutely no chance. Rivera is not going to let some utility player wannabee like Teahen be any kind of hero in the ninth. Yes, Rivera is god. No, I don't like Teahen and the ridiculously huge bat he takes to the plate. Uh, Mark, use a smaller bat. You look like Soriano up there with that way too big piece of lumber for your skill set. Torres: Just another guy who is very very bad at pitching. Pena: Maybe we should make him a starter. Try that. His relief work is not good. He did pretty well in that one start except for that one, lousy inning. Shame to hit like that at home and lose the game. Too bad we can't sweep s***ty teams like the Orioles during crunch time, cause the Twins are feasting on Seattle while we play New York. Kudos to most of the hitters tonight. Nine runs is enough normally at home.

Andruw Jones...WHY???
If we get Manny, it's lights out for Kotsay or Jones. The questiion is, which one?

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
The crazy thing is, as much as it would have been nice to have Manny for this series (if we indeed were going to acquire him eventually anyway), the offense hasn't been the problem at all. Tonight's game is such a wasted opportunity, since we scored so many runs. But Danks sucked.

A year-in review?
If I had to pick one word to describe the season to date, it would be "weird." The 25-5 out of nowhere. The horrible start. The incredible excellent starting pitching for a long stretch and then outings like Danks tonight. I realize all teams have similar s*** happen, but this season has been "weird" and am I a lousy fan for saying somewhat "frustrating?" It could be worse. One of these years we are going to be out of it in June and have something to realy complain about.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 12:45 AM) If Sox are 5.5 games out come Monday or Tuesday, Manny and his contract while giving up prospects is just not worth it. Not to be a negative prick, but I agree. This is the second year in a row we may make an acquisition too late to mean s***. By the time Peavy started pitching, we were buried. I mean if we are 6 out on Tuesday, why would we want Manny ... unless we also want him the following season, which frankly, is possible.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) Wouldn't a reverse jinx mean that what you say comes true? Yes, when I go overboard and say the Sox will get swept, they do well, etc. When I feel we will win, losses mount. I probably should stop it.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 11:41 AM) Some fan you are. You were saying before last night's game that we would lose and Freddy had no chance. Why bother watching and coming in here with all of your negativity? I'll have to get over my reverse jinx stuff. Whenever I am bitterly negative we win.
