  1. I agree. Had a chance to start a mini winning streak, predictably play like a bad team after two wins. If you tell me we will win the next six series, then I'll say today was OK and at least we won the series. Don't know if you can tell me that without laughing, though.
  2. I just thought you are getting caught up in what we have to do to catch teams when this team has yet to prove worthy of worrying about that. Until the team puts together 3 weeks of great baseball it's not worth talking about what we need to do to catch Minnie/Detroit IMO.
  3. I don't forget. Jenks has been a great closer for the Sox.
  4. Who cares right now? We've played horses*** all season and looked like anything but a contender for the postseason. I for one am just gonna see what happens.
  5. As Hawk would say, what you just said is a STRETCH.
  6. What buzzkill. Beckham rocks! That's the kind of pitching we expected 2 days in a row. Nice job Sox. As much s*** as Bobby takes around here, he's not that bad, folks. Can the Sox keep the killer instinct and win 3 in a row vs. this NL team? Cmon Sox. Go for the jugular. Prove you aren't allergic to win streaks.
  7. Volstad sucks. Does that mean we're doomed today?
  8. Beckham another 0-fer tonight but we win 8-0. Maybe he'll be the hero Saturday. He's 1 for his last 13 now and five for his last 40. That has got to be humbling as we storm toward June.
  9. As much b****ing as people do about Oz's lineups ... I would say today's lineup should be the one we go with against all righthanders unless you want to flop Nix for Teahen. Comment on today's lineup vs. righties please. I would go with this one every single game (though I could be convinced Jones should play some over Kotsay and Nix some over Teahen). AJ probably should remain in the 2 hole against righty starters only because he's a veteran and may embrace it. He's not done too bad up there it seems to me. Not sure what the optimal lineup would be against a lefty starter but I "like" this one against righties.
  10. Thanks steve, i was too lazy to google it. 1961. That is WAY too long for a great city like Chicago. Blackhawks need to ride the homecourt frenzy to a victory tonight. Seems to me the Final Four teams are moderately equal, but the winner of this series is a solid favorite to take the Cup.
  11. On paper, that's not a horrible lineup. Get rid of Kotsay for a real DH and get Teahen out of there for a real major league starter and ON PAPER, that really is not too bad a lineup. I'm not big on Pierre, but he is doing fine in May.
  12. Obviously I'd take the Hawks over anything else right now, incuding LeBron. The stars are aligning right for our first title since the 60s, right? Did the Hawks win it once in the Kennedy administration? That said, how are the Chicago papers playing this, if any of you read a hard copy newspaper anymore? Do the Hawks get the main front page headlines over baseball when they play a playoff game? They better.
  13. I liked Walt, too. One summer I even started batting the way he preached in softball. Good way to hit hard grounders.

How bout a winning streak? Sox don't believe in those. Did we have one over six games last year? I would doubt it.
  15. It's funny how low of expectations we have now that the team has tanked.
  16. I like hockey a lot. I went to games as a kid all the time with my dad. I loved Bobby Hull, Mikita, Nesterenko, Magnuson, DeJardins, Esposito, et. all. Moved away and didn't follow them as much during the dead years. I played hockey, love hockey. The question is a fun one. Sorry.
  17. Do you think the Hawks will take care of business before a loud crowd in game three or do you sense some life in San Jose? Logic would suggest we do the job at home after kicking their ass in their own building. Just wondered what you thought the odds are of the Hawks going up 3 games to 0. Q: Which would you take if offered? Let's say the gods guaranteed you that if the Hawks dropped the next four games the Sox would rebound and make the playoffs. Would you take that deal in a second? Or are you a big enough hockey fan you'd want the Hawks to win the series if it meant the Sox continue to spiral downward the rest of the year?
  18. It's a curse. It's like we were meant to cut the gap to one run with four outs to go, then go down meekly the final four outs.
  19. Well said, How could anybody argue with that? Isn't it amazing how in the last 2 years we never have had a significant winning streak? Even if we started playing winning baseball, it'd take us to the all-star break probably just to reach .500.
  20. Yeah, but wasn't Pierre ready to scoot home? If it kicks off the wall, it's happy days are here again, baby. Instead, it's eight below .500 and another crappy lost series.
  21. Jones is down to .230 and change I believe. I can't believe anybody would want him No. 1, and No. 2 what do we expect to get if somebody did take him? I mean be serious. The Cards may want him, but what would they give up? Some guy with no chance at sniffing the bigs I'd guess wouldn't you?
  22. OK, thanks. For whatever reason, teams do usually have a good stretch after the manager is fired.
  23. It's pretty different (and bad) to feel no emotion when we lose. I think almost all of us diehard fans knew despite the great rally we'd fall one-run short thanks to the bad luck on the GR double. With the luck of the Sox, no way there'd be a rally in the ninth even tho we were just one down. Who'd a thunk Jake Peavy would be just another guy on the mound as well? Weird. May ain't looking so good except for Juan Pierre's batting average climbing.
  24. I knew I was setting myself up for that by mentioning Yost's early success.
