  1. McBroom is a funny name; kind of like the episode where the Stooges drink Scotch in Scotland.
  2. Applause for Engel on that at bat and what he brings to the team. I think he's a fine ballplayer.
  3. I love Jose and Grandal obviously but add me to the list of not liking Jose third and Grandal fourth. When he came up, my instant thought was DP letting the rookie lefty off the hook. Indeed he hit a bullet and it was a GREAT defensive DP by KC. But I'd prefer Anderson, Madrigal, Moncada, Eloy, Robert, Abreu, Grandal, Engel and McCann.
  4. True dat. The Marlins situation will happen again. At least the odds are heavy that there will be teams that explode in number of cases after a road trip.
  5. Flip flop Abreu and Robert and pray Madrigal is ready and Mazara is competent and you have a winner here. Also EE has to play every day. As much as I love McCann, Grandal is the everyday catcher. McCann is the odd man out as much as I like him.
  6. He should be playing every day til the injured RF returns. No more Nicky please. Let Engle play. He 'might' be a major leaguer; Nicky is not.
  7. Nice win. Makes me believe/hope our starters simply weren't ready to start the season which is understandable considering the wacky repeat of spring training. Hopefully our pitchers will copy Gio and all will rebound and have better starts as Gio did today. It would be nice to start winning series starting now in KC. We're 0-2 on series but tonight was nice. Obviously it coulda gone either way and we'd be down had we lost again today.
  8. That's right. Agreed on him.
  9. So no Brother Rice football until Feb. 15. Illinois State High School Activities Association ruled today football will be played in the spring, starting Feb. 15. Assuming you need to let the kids work out a month in advance, they'll be practicing in Chicago winter weather Jan. 15 or so? So many questions. Are voluntary workouts allowed in the fall? So these kids will basically be practicing the first day of school until hitting it hard on Jan. 15? Or are workouts not allowed at all til the actual football season? Will some of the seniors who have landed scholarships just sit this one out? I mean you make it all the way to February, why bother? Can you imagine if we have a winter that is especially cold or snowy? You have three games in February, then four in March, four in April and the playoffs in May before graduation? I don't see why some of the sports like CC are allowed to be played in the fall and not football. Yes cases are going up and science predicts a gloomy outlook. But this winter could be spike city. In conclusion ... February weather, so close to graduation ... why would a senior football player even bother? Just fix the itch playing on the streets and parks of Chicago and move on to college. Sad day.
  10. They are going to hit, I'm pretty confident of that if they stay healthy. No doubt this team has a zillion 5 home run games in them with so many guys going for the fences as is the desired approach these days.
  11. If he is doing that, then he is the dumbest man alive. He's not ever going to manage again. Geez. We are in an era there was a violent protest held in Grant Park not even two weeks ago. Chicago like the rest of the country is ON EDGE. The world is ALL about PC and he can't be PC. If he gets named manager, immediately everyone will dig out his statements of the past, put them on Twitter and the Sox will have to cancel/fire him in ONE DAY. ... Maybe he's trying to be a good analyst on TV.
  12. The Sox remain what they are: A team with several electric, all-star everyday players and a pitching staff, that evidence suggests, is so average to poor it probably will prevent the team from being a playoff contender. Right now it's Keuchel, Kopech (on hold a year) and pray Cease and Giolito are sensational and Rodon is well above average. I've pretty much given up on Lopez as being anything possibly special. Also we can disagree but the bullpen IMO is not playoff caliber either. We shall see. We know this. We have stars in Eloy, Robert, Moncada, Tim, maybe Madrigal, Jose, McCann, Grandal and EE.
  13. Chicago should hold a parade if/when the Sox ever crush the .500 mark. The Sox are losers until they can get over .500. They are allergic to .500.
  14. Losing both games of a doubleheader this early in the season is hard to do and unacceptable to winning organizations. Congrats Sox on such a crappy start to the season. Geez. Wake up and somebody teach these guys how to win games!! As good as they looked against the Cubs, they've REEKED.
  15. Sox are going to lose a ton of games this year if the starting pitchers are as bad as they've looked the first week.
  16. It's funny how Sox managers always have their favorites. My man Ozzie did; Robin did. And of course this Nicky thing with Ricky is silly. I love grinders but Delmonico has to go the way of Palka, probably to play in another country. He's just not good enough.
  17. Behind in the count and lay it right in there. Boom. 2 RBI single. Sox are off to an horrific start. We need a do-over on the season (again). This team needs at least one more veteran proven starter, bullpen help and a healthy Eloy. Some other things too. Not giving up on the season but since the Cubs exhibitions, this team has reeked.
  18. Is Harold still on the staff? I could see JR going with Baines.
  19. That's the only thing I didn't like about Ozzie's tenure. I felt he was conceding Sunday games. Even sometimes we'd be trying for a sweep of some bad team and we'd concede on Sunday. I love and loved Ozzie though. Again he isn't going to ever be Sox manager again. Just like his comments today (which I can't hear; MLB.com doesn't carry pre or post game) he's too controversial obviously. I'd say Ozzie's chances of managing anywhere in MLB again are 2 percent. His chance of managing the Sox again is 1 percent.
  20. The Sox are allergic to .500. We can never get over .500 during this lousy period in Sox history.
  21. Free agency for pitching. Just do it this offseason. Rebuild the staff.
  22. Hate to say it but tomorrow's DH is big. We're 1-2. If we go 1-4 it's the same ol same ol as far as our team. Win two would be great. Split and everything's OK. Lose 2 and I'm sorry, not overreacting, but 1-4 is a LOUSY start.
  23. I love how people mock people for wearing masks in cars; I do it when I'm en route to a place I need to wear the mask so I don't forget it and have to walk back to the car. I still fear the older baseball coaches and the old college basketball coaches (there are a ton pushing 70 or over 70) contracting the virus. There are also older college football coaches and assistants. If somebody catches it and dies, there's going to be outrage and rightly so.
  24. This should be a big week. KC at Detroit for four nights? Cmon. On the road, you would expect a lot of new cases. Hope not but I don't like players' chances traveling as much as they do.
  25. Would somebody objectively rate this rotation and our bullpen? I don't feel qualified yet but I tell you the Sox pitching staff does not scream "excellent" to me, all the way through starters and relievers. If you guys tell me our rotation is playoff caliber and our pen is too, I'll believe you. I'm just skeptical and not because of one series.
