Kopech sitting out 2020 - files for divorce
As far as I'm concerned if an employee in any field is worried about coronavirus, he/she has the right to skip work and be paid. All of Kopech's concerns sound reasonable. It's his arm. He knows if he's ready to test it.

He asked a question why people feel this way. I gave a reason for it. I think government officials are mainly to blame. It must be noted despite my friends' feelings which I pointed out, I wear my mask everywhere out of respect for people and have yet to see any incidents in stores/restaurants. We have a law you must wear a mask indoors so I do it and from what I can see most do it. I'm all for masks and the end of Covid spread.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I did read somewhere that the biggest form of transmission is when you have a long conversation with somebody who has the virus. A mask would seem critical in a 1-1 dialogue situation with a stranger or even a family member. You guys don't believe greg but the reason it is so divisive as you ask?? Because of the hypocracy. Whether you guys want to believe it or not, people watch the TV and internet and see BLM protests every single night still. And yet we can't bury a relative in front of more than 10 people when hundreds of thousands are rebelling in the streets every night. It's not fair and it's appalling. Di Blasio even said those protests are more important than anything else thus are allowed. Not wearing a mask is one of the ways people can rebel in ANGER at that hypocracy. "You will not tell me to wear a mask." It is rebellion folks. Nobody followed my kill 'em with kindness mantra. all I see on Twitter is "wear the damn mask!" Anyhow, we have to wear our masks indoors here. It's the rule and stores enforce it big time. Sorry, that's my answer to your question and whether you want to punch me for saying it, a lot of people feel this way. It's not much, but it is a form of rebellion against the government leaders in not wearing the mask. Freedom of choice.

Our stores make you wear the mask, case closed. I wonder why the stores do not object. You can get a citation since it's mandatory indoors here now.

This is a great post when you think about it. He's right. The online option is a SHAM so he's right. Furlough everybody and it's "see you for summer school 2021." Just have the kids hang out a year and if the parents can get them to do it, make them read a book a week. If they can prove they did it, pass them the entire grade. If parents want to lie about the book a week, let them. Great post. Furlough everybody; see u in May of 2021.

Cause the ADs and commishes say the Power Five schools will be decimated without football and bball money. Keep trying for them til the last second. Now does that open 'em up for Title Nine lawsuits by the other sports? Probably. But we're allegedly talking survival of athletic departments here.

Where are the colleges going to get all the tests needed and do all the tests needed to know if their teams are safe? That's for football and basketball. They might as well announce this week that all sports besides football and basketball are canceled. Again, a baseball or volleyball team goes on a road trip. So they test the day before they leave and two kids have the virus. So 14 day quarantine for the whole team. What if the team had made it to its destination with no COVID positives. So on game day they take temperatures and two kids have fevers after the bus ride/plane ride. Game canceled. Some games canceled; a few played. Why bother? At best just allow teams to practice and play intrasquad games until the 2021-22 school year and wait until the last minute to give up on football and basketball. But all other sports give it up right now for this school year.

It's funny how no matter how many times the mods warn us, politics creeps back into the thread and the board. Not complaining just chuckling a bit how much politics rules our minds.

Different topic, but this confirms my concerns about HR at some companies. Just another way for management to stay on top of people rather than help the employee. Glad she gave it a shot though. It was the right thing to do. Your final two sentences are scary but appear to be true. Good health to all of us, knock on wood.

I feel your pain. Thing is I think we're all doomed to stop life again until probably next summer. We're hearing about spikes in Covid anywhere people gather. What's going to happen is schools would open and kids are going to have the virus, give it to a teacher and all hell is going to break loose. Part of me says just ignore Covid and let it do what it must do. The other part of me says I don't want to get it, be on a ventilator and also have to pay exorbitant fees for medical care. I feel for kids. They belong in school. It's very serious keeping them out of class this long. I heard one district is saying the child can go to school two days a week or stay home for an all online option. What a choice. I'd probably choose the all online option. BTW if it's true that 70 percent of American families are living paycheck to paycheck like I heard un fact checked on TV tonight, God help us all. This really could be the end.

Amen brother. This is what I've been saying. When it was not a government rule here, I didn't wear a mask. I didn't like 'em and did not wear. When people started addressing me on this board I started to wear my mask more often even though I didn't like my goverrnment officials making demands, not working with the people here. Then with the government edict I wear it all the time and am shocked if somebody doesn't have theirs on. I am mentally ok with it because I started to listen to those who said wear one out of kindness toward my neightbor. As you said, be kind. Not bossy. That's the key.

At least acknowledge this part is true. Look I'm no brain surgeon but I'm no dummy. I watch livestream of the protests every night (yes they are still going on nightly in Portland, Seattle, Denver; the Portland ones are quite intense nightly). They say we shouldn't be in crowds of more than a handful of people and the protests which have been ongoing for a month are attracting TONS of people during a pandemic. We even had an autonymous zone in Lawrence and our COVID numbers mysteriously are raging now since the zone appeared. Let's be fair at least. Trump rallies: Bad for pandemic spread. Protests/riots: Bad for pandemic spread. Cmon it doesn't take Einstein to believe my penultimate sentence here is correct as well. p.s. I don't see why people are so bent out of shape day after day about Trump. He's not gonna win, folks. Just relax. You can voice your displeasure at the ballot box.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Jim Harbaugh today: "COVID is part of our society. It wasn’t caused by football or caused by sports. There’s no expert view right now that I’m aware of that sports is going to make that worse." Harbaugh's position is obviously the same one as Trump's administration. We're going to let COVID-19 run its course and have group immunity. Now if it's true you can get it, get over it, then catch it again in 2 months, a whole hella lot of people are going to have COVID all winter/spring. I don't really understand herd immunity if it exists. It's kind of scary that the platform is to just act as it's business as usual except for the six-feet precaution thing and wearing a mask and not allowing large group gatherings except for societal protests in the streets. Reading this thread with posts from people following it closer than I am, it seems like it's not going to be pretty. I wish we'd hear more about hospitals being built/converted because if Harbaugh's position is reality, my guess is all our medical people are going to be doing is treating COVID in ICU's and from what I read we don't have the capacity and the amount of ventilators which is kind of scary. My point: Harbaugh's comment is going to be the new normal because it's obvious Trump wants the economy to rebound or he has no chance of being re-elected (selfish move) and our school leaders, at least on the university level, realize they MUST be open lest they close their doors likely forever via bankruptcy. Ditto sports commissioners and college ADs and presidents. They realize sports must go on.

Will There Be a 2020 Season?
Sal Perez and Freeman test positive. It's pretty apparent the only way we have baseball is playing through the positive tests and figuring the new normal in America is letting coronavirus do its thing. This sucks, all the positive tests in sports. Just saw the end of a TBT game on ESPN. The two coaches were standing there about one foot from each other chatting and players doing the same. They obviously aren't concerned but I am.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Re. mask use and the controversy ... I wear my mask everywhere and haven't done anything fun since March 12 when everything shut down. I abide by all rules. Thankfully I haven't got COVID yet. I'm one of those Americans who hate wearing my mask (masks, since I own about 20) but shut up and wear it anyway. I do, however, have a quick theory on the mask thing and why many of my fellow angry Kansans won't wear them. Remember how upset I was at the Kansas governor for being so bossy and not even listening to barbers, etc? Just a very defiant attitude in which she appeared high and mighty telling us minions what to do during the pandemic with NO discussion ever? Well ... I think there are a lot of people who do not get out of the house and take part in the massive protests attended by thousands nightly (and hundreds who leave their homes to live in autonymous zones), who pay their taxes a month ahead of time every year, do not ever rebel. These "model citizens" I feel just drew the line at the bossiness of government officials regarding masks. This is one thing they finally could stomach no more, and have freaked out. There are bossy government officials and celebs and peeps of all kinds on social media and TV yelling "wear the damn mask." Ever hear of the saying "kindness kills?" This was one issue there was anger and the mask-haters fought back and are still fighting back. I think my method would have worked ... a very kind campaign saying, "Out of respect for your neighbors and your fellow Americans, think about it long and hard and please wear a mask. We're all in this together. Let's beat COVID." I know a lot of you are just going to respond that I'm soft and a baby and I'm wrong because people need to be forcibly told things during a crisis ... I stand by my stance that kindness kills and in this one situation people have had enough (after locking themselves up 2-plus months, doing nothing fun, getting laid off work while at the same time watching THOUSANDS attend protests on TV in which "some people not most" wear masks. I think message boards are to examine all views and while what I've written may anger most of you, I think you might consider a good portion of Americans do indeed feel this way regarding masks and explains a bit their attitude of, "nobody tells me what to do in a free country!" Here's a feel good story during this time of so much anger and negativity in America. ... https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/01/us/assisted-living-pen-pals-north-carolina-trnd/index.html?utm_source=twCNN&utm_content=2020-07-04T06%3A16%3A06&utm_term=link&utm_medium=social

I've got some theories about masks that Im not going to share because guess what ... I'm learning to behave on here. I now know what's going to cause a major earthquake on here and won't go there. Let's hope the 4th is safe and fun despite COVID. This 2020 really truly sucks so far.

I read a story this weekend that said the No. 1 way to catch the virus is to sit next to somebody 1 on 1 for an extended period of time. Flying on a packed flight is like Russian Roulette right now. Wonder how the airlines can get away with this. Wonder if it has to do with cold hard cash to overlook this?? It said there are a lot of speculated ways to get covid but from what I read it's not good sitting next to somebody on a plane, especially as cramped as it is? Anybody been on a plane lately?? Totally packed (pre covid).

At some point our health care system decided to challenge every single line item and try to rip off its customers. When's the last time you had everything approved on a bill? This is not a great time to be alive and looking at our future, folks. Kansas and Missouri are trying to get rid of Obamacare regarding COVID. I guess COVID will break some people.

Zion is life-changing. I've been there. It's so peaceful at night. Hope you are staying in one of their lodges. As far as the trip ... tough call. I'd get out of the MGM now. First of all it'll take forever to check in that huge monstrocity. I always like to stay somewhere like Monte Carlo where check in is in the back by the parking and right where the cabs let you out. Since you are probably flying SWA I'd wait until 10 days out and see how Vegas and Utah are doing with the virus. The flights? I would think obviously planes are an awful place for a person to be with the virus prevalent. However, I bet it's also one of the best places in terms of it getting scrubbed down beautifully. Also mom and dad can sit next to each other in the same row with one child on the aisle and the other in another row. At least right next to you will be safe. Personally I think I'd scrap the trip this year because of the flights and being in Vegas and the fact 2020 is the year from hell. But I also think if you go you might return COVID-free. If you go let us know if Zion is still awesome. Be careful on the trails. There were a couple spots one slip would mean plunging way far down than you want to plunge. p.s. Like somebody said, if it's hard to get a shuttle and different gift shops are closed ... might be best to just scrap this year's trip and go some other time. I really don't want to go in the hospital two weeks and possibly die or have my lungs ruined forever. Best wishes to everybody as we try to avoid COVID.

That would be awful. Chances are if it's only 5,000 fans there will be very few bathrooms available, very few concessions. I never thought of that before. Not much fun or not as much fun anyway. If it takes forever to get in the park, no thanks. With just 5,000 fans they should just make parking free (they won't I know). I mean with just 5,000 fans a game, why bother charging for parking? Would be a nice gesture.
