  1. Semien is a pretty good player. We seem to struggle against Oakland a lot. If we win this series I'd be impressed. I looked it up but couldn't find how many years in a row they've won the season series vs. us and by how much.

Damn. Did anybody get arrested? Did you hurt your hand cause of fist to the other guy's body or face? Or did u fall? Don't answer if I'm out of line. Hope u are not in great pain. Did u have to go to hospital or just get some heavy duty excedrin for the pain?
  3. Don't worry. I'll stop defending my position on this now. If it angers you that badly I'm done with it. It's not worth getting banned. Sorry if my opinions are so different from yours.
  4. Maybe I consider your takes on Jose ridiculous but I'm polite enough to not call you on it aggressively.

You sound like a sharp guy, congrats. I would say finish your courses then talk to whoever is closest to the top at your current company to see if your new degrees qualify you for a better job with your current company. It's kind of disconcerting your wife is ready to start a family u said and you are not quite set on what you want to do for a living in the long haul. Your wife is a teacher so I'd assume her school will let her take up to six weeks off once she has the first child. Or maybe 3 months? From reading your post, it unfortunately sounds like you are not thrilled with your current job/company and are sort of seekign something else. From your telling us about your earlier interest in journalism and broadcasting, it sounds as if you are not in a good place in knowing what job you truly are called for. My gut feeling is you should finish your courses and speak to your company higher ups then get another job either with your company or another using the new degrees you have. There's really nothing else you can do unless you want to go full bore back into broadcasting or try to be the school counselor you might want to be. Keep us posted! Sorry if my advice was bad.

Sorry about that. Must be so painful. How did this happen? Best wishes.
  7. Nobody ever plays devil's advocate and says, 'what is what greg says is true?' Being close minded is huge these days. Why not expand your horizons and try to figure out where I'm coming from. I'm just totally offended the team wouldn't try to improve on that first half and catch fire with Robert, Eloy, Moncada, Abreu, McCann, Leury and an adequate bullpen and kick some butt and get in the race. When somebody literally lists our three best players, or three of our top players, and suggests flipping them, believe it or not some fans don't like that. For instance if I had season tickets I'd really be mad. p.s. There's also no reason we couldn't actually pick up a veteran starter or two from somewhere if we were trying to build on our first half. Hahn's job is so easy it's unreal. He makes the 3 obvious trades (fathom, caulfield, etc could have traded Q, Eaton, etc. for a nice haul) and signs some truly horrible players in offseasons while waiting for the young to get to the bigs. Not everybody out there lives for losing, and stockpiling alleged talent, folks.
  8. For integrity of the game. You are actively taking a contender (if we called up Robert and Madrigal) and killing the bullpen and we know how valuable the bullpen is. It's just too obvious. If we were 30 below .500 or whatever we were last year that'd be different.
  9. I said IF we trade those 3 players, three of our best players, with no intent to pursue winning. Winning is the purpose of playing the game. If you don't try to win you are impacting the integrity of the game in many ways: I mean cmon, a couple games under .500 and trading your best 2 bullpen pieces and arguably your best hitter? LOL.
  10. Take a stand against tanking. There's no reason a team just a few under .500 would trade arguably 3 of its best players with no intent to help this year's team. I would hope he had the power to strip us of a few draft picks next year, maybe our second round, fourth round, sixth round picks. I wouldn't even be upset if he took our first round pick. This would be blatant disregard for winning and teams that face us would have a decided advantage. Anybody with me?
  11. That's why I think the commissioner should step in if we trade Bummer, Colome and/or Abreu. At one point does the league penalize you for blatant tanking. I mean in the old days we'd still be considered in the race. Now we're a seller possibly.
  12. Surely somebody has asked Ricky about Collins' role. What is his role right now? If we didn't have McCann I think everybody would be more hopeful about Collins.
  13. What a quick aggressive swinging motion. He's a natural. Again ... how can you not win with Robert, Moncada, Eloy and also Timmy, Abreu, McCann. That's six good hitters out of nine.
  14. Man, you are selling three good baseball players, definitely 3 of our better players. What a slap in the face to our fans. I mean I know we are tanking but it's bullcrap to trade those three guys. Even Leury has been worth the price of a ticket this season; he's been exciting. LOL on your second line. Nobody's taking any of those guys. If we released them probably only 2 of the four would get picked up. McCann ... he's having a great year, why trade him? It's not like he's Johnny Bench. He's a fine player but nobody's gonna give you much more than a 10th round draft pick type player.
  15. No reason to blast Collins yet. He's been used poorly by Ricky and Hahn. Get him regular at bats or do him a favor and trade him. He's definitely ready. If we are in love with McCann frankly we don't need Collins. Even though McCann is sensational if we don't trade Collins maybe we play Collins 3 days a week; McCann 4.
  16. OMG!!! Robert has two homers and five RBIs tonight and the announcer on his grand slam thought it was Escobar. Find the replay on Twitter. This is scary, folks. Robert, Eloy and Moncada in the same lineup. Rick Hahn will work in Chicago til he's 80. If Jerry opens the wallet there's no reason we can't start winning NEXT SEASON w/those 3. No excuses. Do it. Robert!!!!!!
  17. They'll wait if they can IMO. You saw how little they did last offseason. They can always say they are waiting for some of those young pitchers to heal/be ready in order to line the owners' pockets some more.
  18. That's not very tolerant. Actually most of the posts that are anti Jose are not really discussing his production and expected production and are emotionally based themselves. Read them and tell me they are not age-centric for the most part. I do think Sox beat writers could ask the tougher questions of Hahn/KW following the acquisition of the Houston guy. It sure seems like he was acquired to take over for Abreu if/when he gets traded. I'd say the odds of Jose being traded have increased significantly following that transaction.
  19. I wonder why? The Millennials and Xers who hate baseball or ?? I do confess I had no desire to watch it only cared about Jose, Gio and McCann.
  20. Great post. To be fair, I get the vibe it's nothing personal against Jose except for a couple of posters who seem to despise him mostly because of defense and the fact he doesn't like to DH. They fear keeping him at first as much as his age. I sense the fans that fear he's a fossil are new-agers who look at age quite closely. When they see Jose they see '32' and pretty much can't enjoy him after that permeates their minds.
  21. surely you don't deny the increase in concern about a player once they hit the age of 32; ageism if you will.
  22. I agree. Considering the White Sox have saved so much money and stuffed it in Jerry's wallet the past many seasons, the money issue bores me regarding the White Sox. The Sox make so much money it's a bore to discuss pennies that go to most players. You said it all: You said: "Pay the man $30-$35 million and let's just have him be a career white sox. There's even a chance he produces roughly the same over the next three years as a DH and we end up with #79 being retired by the team. If he doesn't produce, we just let him go. It's really not that hard." AMEN. But Hibbard ... you and I know the problem. He projects poorly in the new age of projecting players and that can't be overcome. Age. I just think the talk of flipping him, then re-signing him is weird and dumb. So the team acquiring him truly is giving up 3 prospects for 2 months and the postseason since there's a wink/wink agreement to rejoin the Sox. Not happening. Too many unknowns regarding what he could make in free agency in that situation.
  23. If it's three years eight million why sweat it? That's nothing. If that's all it takes, extend him now. 3 for 25. The problem is poor Collins will be his backup 4 more seasons.
  24. One of the posters already agreed with my assessment that fans want stars at every position. How else do you explain the discarding away of Jose so simply as if he's a stiff. He doesn't fit the profile of the rebuild/tank team in some fans' eyes. Too old. Next.
