UCLA basketball players arrested in China
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 06:11 PM) I have to think Trump is trying to distract with this Ball stuff. He could've gone on a tweet-page last week when this actually happened but chose to build it up slowly. Curious at the least. As far as Ball, I used to hate the guy and his recent CNN interview made me feel differently. The guy is actually intelligent. You'd never know just seeing his one liners quoted on Twitter. Either Chris Cuomo is such an idiot he made Ball look intelligent or Ball is actually intelligent. I think it's more of the latter. That's the interview that made me cringe. I hate confrontational TV. Annoys me.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 06:05 PM) yet you enjoy watching Hannity who supports child molesters. I never said I enjoy watching Hannity. Quite Frankly I don't watch him. I may have had a comment or two from him on Soxtalk from listening 'briefly' when I'm driving. He comes on after Rush I believe. I actually don't watch much TV at all. I may have watched some more during the election season. I know you won't believe me, but I don't enjoy watching Hannity. I can't say I "enjoy" listening to Rush. I will if I'm driving hit 980 radio to see if he's actually on and not in some commercial break. I actually don't respect any of the radio guys because of those interpersonal ads they read where they pretend to use the product. Limbaugh will read some commercial pretending to use "MyPillow" or some such item and I find that appalling that these hosts lie just to get the sponsor. Or Rush will say he's using some service to save you millions from the IRS or something. Scams. Anyhow aren't you all sick of PC? Just cause I don't like the way LaVar Ball looks or sounds on TV doesn't make me evil. I just read a story that said British school teachers have been ordered to not call the girls and boys "girls" or "boys" in grade school. It is not healthy to identify with a gender. But Sqwert I cannot say I like Hannity. I don't watch his TV show; I catch a few seconds of these guys on radio driving in my car and you all think I'm a Rush/Hannity/Meghan McCain (when she had a show), Herman Edwards fan. I am not. I listen to things sometimes driving when I don't have on the Beatles channel on Sirius or some such channel.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) Oh god, he's tweeting again, what an asshole They need to keep Ball off TV. He enjoys baiting the hosts of shows and his interrupting and cocky attitude is not good TV IMO. Others may like that kind of TV I find it makes me cringe.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) That's not even close to what he said. He simply thinks (along with many other people) that maybe the POTUS should act a little more presidential. You seem to be ok with him acting more like toddler. Trump is never going to act presidential. We just have to hope he doesn't cause nuclear war. I'm not 'ok' with him acting like a toddler, I just think in this situation daddy Ball was SO out of line I don't mind Trump fighting back against the ungrateful person. Again, he's lucky his son isn't in jail 8 months just waiting for trial. As far as Tony and him blocking me, he obviously proves he's a guy who doesn't want a discussion. he's right and that's that. Greg is just some dope that he has no time for.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
QUOTE (Quin @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 04:25 PM) So, Greg, do you submit punishing people for the sins of the father? No I'm glad the 3 players thanked Trump. But it's pretty unusual and sad the dad would be so unrepentant when Trump/USA got the kids out of jail. If you remember when the story first broke all the articles were reporting that those players could be kept in jail 8 months or so even before the trial. They were in a deep pile of crap. If Trump doesn't ask Xi for leniency and laughs it off those 3 players likely would still be there. Now in answer to your question I think it's good the players thanked Trump and haven't said any more since. But daddy opened his trap and Trump responded. Big deal if Trump doesn't look presidential. he's a buffoon. We all know that. But I'm just upset at the fact LaVar feels so entitled just cause his kid is a future NBA player. I'm not going to change my mind that LaVar is an ungrateful jerk over all this. I'm assuming the players are contrite as they appeared to be and thankful. Even though Trump is a moron IMO I don't blame him for tweeting back at LaVar since that's what Trump does.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 04:20 PM) Can you link your evidence? Cmon. Trump is the president. If he said he talked to the Chinese president on the 3's behalf he probably did. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 04:25 PM) The first thing they did in their press conference after getting home was to thank Trump. That the President is begging for this sort of validation is still beyond pathetic. The rest of the world knows how petty and easily influenced he is if you just puff up his ego a bit. I'm glad the 3 players thanked Trump. Dad was out of line. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) Come on...Lavar was a dumby. Let's not all put this back on the president (for once). Exactly. QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) Sorry, but I don’t hold Lavar Ball and THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES in the same regard. If Lavar Ball wants to shoot his mouth off, it doesn’t bother me as much...seeing as it’s Lavar Ball. You have a an adult child sitting in the Oval Office, demanding more praise for something he did. Because he didn’t get it, he wished that three kids spend the next 10 years in a Chinese jail. Yeah, let’s not all put this back on Trunp. What a guy. Obviously Tony doesn't think the crime was that bad. I do. I think it was ridiculous the players were that stupid and rude to try to steal stuff from a store in China. China is not exactly the place to get caught doing such a stupid rude act.

The Sexual Assault problem
QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) As a performer, I've had my ass grabbed by more women than I can count, and I've even been kissed a couple of times. Thoughts? The question is ... did you feel violated? Did you mind? Did it cause you angst or distress at any time? If so you have the right to call out those who did it to you and out them on Twitter and claim you were assaulted. That's my take. If you didn't mind, well, I don't see the big deal. As far as whether I'd mind if that happened to me? Don't know. I'm not a performer.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (ypres @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 09:52 PM) What would be a realistic Avi-extension that most are comfortable with? 5/$30M-6/$48M? I wouldn't necessarily extend him until we have to but I think he's definitely "worth" 10 million for next season for sure. No need to do anything right now. If Avi sulks you can just say, "Avi, you have to show us it wasn't a one-year fluke. We love you but for gosh sakes do it again and then you'll be paid." QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 10:05 PM) I think 5/50M would be reasonable for the player and the team if we wanted to take that gamble now. If we wait until next offseason and he puts up another all-star level year, we're probably looking more like 5/70. All of these numbers side more with a team friendly "I want to stay with the White Sox" type of player intention. If he's looking to maximize his pay day / meet in the middle to avoid FA - then you're probably looking more at something along the lines of 5/90. Good post. 5/50 is the right amount. But like I said I wouldn't extend him yet. I also WOULD NOT trade him.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 08:00 PM) Andrew MarchandVerified account @AndrewMarchand 20m20 minutes ago The Yankees interviewed Giants' bench coach Hensley Meulens for their managerial job today. He was a former top prospect in their organization and has earned a strong reputation as a hitting coach. http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-0722883218201647484-4 …://http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=...18201647484-4 …://http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=...18201647484-4 …://http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=...18201647484-4 … If the Yankees are considering no names, they should just suck it up and call Girardi and get him back. He's obviously a better manager than anybody they are going to get at this point. I get it. Yankee front office and owner threw a fit after the Yankees were denied the WS. Houston had a great team. The Yankees were young. Get over it. I wish the Sox would hire Girardi and let him groom our young kids when it's time. In the interim he can get used to the South Side and the Cell. You can bet if the Yankees hire some unknown guy the guy will be roasted in the press next season.

Can Illinois Survive?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 04:20 PM) #1, so any percentage is a "good chance?" #2 (bolded) no All I know is, once the reputation of danger hits, your city is in trouble. I remember going to Detroit one year and being told simply DO NOT walk around in this neighborhood. You could be jumped. And it wasn't that bad a neighborhood. Same in Chicago. If gangs of thugs are jumping people, yes, there's a chance it can happen to you and that means a decline in tourism. The exact odds? I dunno. Perhaps a statnik can help figure the odds with the help of Alias.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 06:05 AM) And you would be ok with them being in jail for 10 years? Glad to see where your priorities are. I’ve finally had enough Greg in my life. Blocked. I'm glad you blocked me. Jumping to conclusions, much? If you can't see how wrong it is to not be extremely grateful to Trump for helping get them out of China, I can't help you. These guys committed a crime in China for gosh sakes. Real smart. And they could have been cooped up a long long time. Trump and the USA got them back home safely. They owe Trump EVERYTHING. Cause it's no fun to be locked up in a cell in fricking China. Glad you blocked me.

Can Illinois Survive?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) so a 1% chance? a 50%? Whats a good chance? if any crime is committed anywhere there is a good chance it happens to you? I dont understand. If it happened once, this band of thugs will attack again. If it's not stopped there's indeed a fair to good chance you'll be mugged. It's a mindset. If people think it's dangerous to walk around Chicago after dark, that turns the city into a ghosttown.

The Sexual Assault problem
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) "Don't put your hands on a woman's ass" seems pretty straight forward. e: where else are they supposed to go to expose these creeps? Amen. Kudos to the women who are telling the truth and bring this to public scrutiny. Now if they are lying that's a different story. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) No, this is so cynical. There is an opportunity here to actually change things. Your comment is so similar to the "So ALL cops are bad!? we get it" comments. If the people that take advantage of their power, for one, are held accountable for this behavior maybe it stops. But now that there are so many stories where people are putting their name on the line as accusers we hit a point where we just say "we get it, all men are bad, blah blah get over it". No, let the offenders face real consequences. Nothing was truly being solved by just paying out victims silently. Great post. Excellent IMO. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) No, you are naive. This is not going to stop men, particularly old men that are no longer getting laid, from being perverts. It's not right for a man to grab a woman's butt or vice versa. You got to pay the price if you do it.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 08:31 PM) The President of the United States, tweeting that he should’ve left three collegiate athletes (and US citizens) in a Chinese jail because one of their fathers didn't display enough gratitude to him, is where we are when it comes to the office of the President. But you keep being greg. I don't like the attitude of Mr. Ball. It angers me. The Trump part of this doesn't anger me as much. It's the entitlement of the players. They could be doing hard labor for 10 years and Trump got them released. If Trump had a do-over he'd probably let them rot in China jail so to speak. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 01:05 AM) It would be nice if we had a president who actually did things because they were the RIGHT thing to do...not to kick off the latest cultural war. And not for public thanks/gratitude/appreciation. In this case, it's not even clear what exactly the right thing to do was here. One thinks that the 3 student athletes aren't going to receive the message unless they have their athletic scholarships revoked. Even that won't have much of an impact on the Ball family in terms of the serious of shoplifting, especially in a country where they could have ended up with harsh jail term of roughly 8-10 years. Athletes continue to receive the message that they're special and that SOMEONE will bail them out of nearly any situation if they can bring profit to universities and/or professional teams. Not saying Trump was wrong...just that there are tons of other Americans (see the story I linked above) that are suffering even more while jailed abroad. It's just that they are not famous or are lacking political connections to get them out. Good post. One of your best ever.

40-man roster decisions and the Rule 5 Draft
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 18, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) We’re already seeing it. Teams are embracing the tank. Can’t just look at the way things have been done in the past, but have to be forward thinking. I fully expect what the Padres did last season to become more and more common. Maybe not quite to that extent (i.e. three players), but moreso around taking high ceiling, but super undeveloped positional prospects. You ever think teams may be embracing the tank because a.) you get the payroll down to pennies and the owners love that! followed by b.) since some teams have had success with it, you are putting dozens of millions in the owners wallet while doing something that's popular with the fans. I mean you can lose up to 5 years during the tank and everybody's happy. It's the perfect nonsequitir for an owner who likes cold hard ca$h.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 07:53 PM) Good riddance then. Enjoy Kansas City. Its a rebuild. There are no sacred cows. I said people would be thrilled if I leave. I'm disgusted by the thought of trading virtually EVERYBODY who is decent and not a pitcher. Ridiculous. Abreu and Avi will not be old and decrepit when we are contending again. So trade them and you get 3 more prospects for Abreu (one great one on paper; two decent ones) and you get 2 more good prospects for Avi. Probably one very good and one good. Why? Give me one good reason we need 5 more minor league prospects of which 3 would probably be good but not as good as Avi/Abreu and certainly not leaders like those 2!!! QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 07:57 PM) I was on the fence about trading them before but now I'm definitely for trading them! Again, no need to have the requisite posts, great, trade them so we get rid of Greg.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail! https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/...303108146892801 Stay classy, Mr. President. I have been neutral on LaVar until this. Those players have committed one of the dumbest, most rude, ridiculous crimes ever. They are basketball players in China (uh, I think they stand out in a store a bit as not being from the area) and steal stuff. And the dad of one of them is not mad at his kid but has this type of attitude. It's just flat out awful. The kid apologized so maybe the kid is humble, but the dad should be ashamed of himself. I know that's impossible but I'm fine with Trump's tweet calling out LaVar for his flat-out awful take on this situation. Again, to do what those players did is about as dumb a crime as one could ever imagine. U.S. basketball players thinking they'll get away with stealing stuff in ... China?? Those kids are dumb, LaVar, very dumb for thinking stealing stuff was a good idea in a China store. And lucky Trump helped them out.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 08:27 PM) https://www.fanragsports.com/inside-basebal...hed-salary/amp/ "The White Sox are looking into potential trades for stars Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia. Though GM Rick Hahn pointed out that the market “wasn’t necessarily kind” to right-handed power a year ago, about 10 teams are seeking a first baseman, and Abreu may turn out to be a cost-efficient alternative following his excellent season. Both Abreu and Garcia are free agents in two more years, so the timetable of the White Sox and the two players don’t necessarily line up." Now I'm getting mad. This is irresponsible. We're not going to win a pennant without some leftovers. These 2 guys are excellent hitters and ballplayers and both have intangibles a team likes. If Hahn trades these two you may all have your wish, I may be gone as a fan. Done. It's ridiculous to trade these two and think we're going to win one or two or more WS titles with the rebuilt group. Ever hear of a mixture of guys who've been with the team a while and all the new young players? Hahn obviously (if this report is true) loves the fact all the statniks/trade people are praising him daily. Mr Hahn I ask you, what the hell is wrong with Abreu and Avi??? Why the need to trade them for MORE prospects.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 12:27 AM) You realize that things like this happen in nearly every administration, right? Trump did his JOB - he didn't go above and beyond. And no other President has had to demand an apology. Sad. Oh cmon. These 3 guys are lucky, lucky lucky that Trump helped them out. He did his job? Rescuing robbers? I think Trump's a chump but in this one, those kids are punks if they aren't grateful to Trump. Again, they were in deep s*** and got rescued. How can you take the kids' side on this one.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
Those guys should thank Trump over and over. They could have rotted in a jail over there for years. They caught a break, a big one. If they feel entitled over this one, shame on them. Again, they could be in deep trouble in prison over there, torture and all that. Dumbasses steal stuff from stores in China?? Geez how dumb are people?

Can Illinois Survive?
This is not good. A band of thugs not only robbing people in Chicago but beating them first. It's not good when you can't walk around a big city at 10 p.m. It's like New York way back in the day. I read these type of crimes are now common in New Orleans as well. Cops need to catch these thugs and put them in jail for 15 years. Again these types of crimes can ruin cities in a hurry. Who the hell wants to vacation in Chicago if there's a good chance you may lose some teeth or get a few ribs broken by thugs. http://abc7chicago.com/group-of-thieves-be...5-days/2661203/

Can Illinois Survive?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) Downtown Detroit is having a bit of a rebirth. They are building and renovating a lot of the old rundown properties. Dan Gilbert owns about 15 buildings down in the epicenter. Of course Detoirt isn’t nearly the size of Chicago and where Greg is taking about doesn’t exist there. People forget Cook county is more populated than about half the states in this country. I just thought the South side was dumpy when I checked it out this week. It might have something to do with the weather; drizzly and dreary.
