  1. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 04:18 AM) That's complete bulls***. Look, I was a Bernie lover and Hillary hater. Lots of us out there. The Democrats failed us in giving us Hillary vs. Trump. Trump should never have won; should never have gotten any momentum. It's also the Republicans fault for giving us such lousy opposition in the primaries to Trump. I mean Trump just lacerated everybody so to speak. He bullied Bush; he made the surgeon Carson seem like a sturgeon; he annihilated Carly; he never allowed Kasisch to gain any steam. Had any of the traditional candidates looked presidential instead of clownish Trump would have dropped out early in the primary season. Don't forget there were tons of Americans against Hillary. The Democrats coulda went Bernie.
  2. Man there's a lot of anger in St. Louis. Did you see the protestors headed to the mall again today. Cops again did their thing, at the first sign of violence they go ballistic. Some people were tossing trash cans and the cops arrested 22 at that point when people wouldn't disperse. Included was a 13 year old kid and his granny. Kid was released with no charges; granny charged. Cops said the 22 would get serious charges. Then the protestors headed to a ritzy hotel to continue protest after kicked out of the mall. Man, eight days and counting of protests in St. Louis. Very wild. Again, the cops do nothing until the sound of breaking glass or any disruptive behavior at all. Then they let loose.
  3. QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 03:47 AM) So much can change, but I'd rather the Sox not use assets to get a guy they may already have in Avi Garcia. At 26, I just don't agree that Avi can't help this team win the future. I also don't think an extension would be an insanely high price. I mean you said it all. The guy is only 26. Tim Anderson turns 25 next June 23; his age 25 season. Avi turns 27 next June 12, his age 27 season. Anderson is considered young and everybody's all pumped up bout him; Avi considered an aging non prospect. Kill the cliches and get real, people. Avi is just as good a prospect, maybe even better prospect than TA. How's that for a bold, true statement? That said, the Sox are in a good position to not do anything cept let him play next season. No need to do anything with his contract but trading him would be stupid. You think we aren't going to need Avi and Jose for our WS team?? All prospects isn't gonna cut it.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 03:03 AM) You are so full of s*** and ignorant, It's mind blowing. Step off your bubble of a college campus and walk in the real world for one single day and maybe people can actually have adult discussions with you. Go vote my family death in the hospital again, isn't that how It works? I agree with Little Hurt here. Some of us Republicans (I think I'm Indy now though) simply could not vote for somebody we considered wicked and evil, Hillary Rodman Clinton. Case closed. At least I didn't vote for Trump either, but give us a break please. It's not like the Democrats gave America a reasonable alternative to Donald Trump. I will say Trump's tweeting continues to be a huge problem. Those tweets about sports players and teams were like u all said, ill advised and childish. And his comments about those who kneel during the anthem ... wow. I've been attacked on here for my mild position. Trump went all out freak out ripping those players. I pity the poor NFL writers on Sunday and Monday. They are gonna want to report on a football game and they will have to interview all the guys who take a knee cause those guys will be all out attacking Trump verbally after LeBron's forceful comments. This won't be good for the NFL either, as whether you agree or not it's been suggested publicly NFL ratings are down partly because of the anthem issue. Little Hurt and I disagree at times but cmon, give us a break. Please once and for all realize Hillary gave America very little option to vote out Chump, I mean Trump.
  5. Here are guys I don't want to see on the Sox mound next season. They happen to have all pitched tonight. Covey, Fry, Alburquerque, Holmberg and Beck. I truly would rather have Fathom learn the knuckleball and pitch than those horrific pitchers.
  6. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 08:55 PM) It means FINALLY not being friggin Africa-hot out here!!!! Agree with ya about football...I really find myself just not caring more and more with each passing season. People bag on baseball for being boring...but good lord...go to a football game and count the minutes you're sitting there with your thumb up your arse waiting for either the tv timeouts to be over....and another mindless review. It's gotten unbearable honestly. Baseball is...and will always be the best sport in my mind. This offseason is a little different in terms of the Sox...the major deals are already done (for the most part)...sign a few bullpen pieces...and wait for spring. I don't want to wish it away...because like Jimmy said...I'm at the opposite end...when baseball starts it means Africa-hot isn't too far off. Personally...I'm so ready to move out of this oven!!! Wish I could be a snowbird lol. I forgot about the long reviews in the NFL and college football. It's so f***ing boring. It makes you wonder how the refs ever called a game in the past without replay. I mean they review everything and the calls usually are wrong.
  7. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:20 PM) Has anyone toward the end of the season always have a regret they didn't spend more time watching baseball. In 40 years I went from a football junkie to rarely ever watching an NFL game. I just don't watch it anymore. It's become boring for me while so many say baseball is boring. I don't regret not watching more baseball because I watched a lot of games as long as Shields, Holland and Pelphrey weren't pitching. I just couldn't watch those 3 guys pitch and didn't. I probably watched uh, none of their games all season, maybe one of Holland's early. I did watch many of the other games or parts of them. I watched some Royals games on TV, not many, enough to know a little about the team. They somehow have played 3 under .500 ball despite having a wretched pitching staff. This is the first year probably in my entire life I have no idea of the Sox/Royals season series results. I am thinking we have to be close to .500 against them though this time. My eye test tells me we don't lead the season series against 'em but I'm thinking 2-3 under .500. I don't understand the NFL fans. I can't watch NFL. I cant stand the short swing passes to running backs and commercial breaks. I will say though that I have sat through the last few Super Bowls which actually were OK. Used to be a huge Bears fan. Now I'm a frontrunner. Don't care til they get good. I will watch the Cubs in the playoffs again, at least the night games. It's a good baseball fix. I do miss baseball season, but this year I won't care when it ends because the Sox were embarrassingly bad. Some individuals did well though. But the team made me sick with its perpetual losing. The team was that bad. As far as winter ... winter blows. I'll take heat any time. It just sucks in life when you know you have to go travel on a winter Tuesday and the forecast says snow and ice Monday, Tuesday and part of Wednesday. You are just f***ed at that point. And I hate carrying my winter coat through a toasty airport and on a plane. Got to bring the winter coat but you sweat your ass off wearing it in airports. Ugh. My pet peeves, winter.
  8. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 03:19 PM) Yeah, Greg's not a troll. He just vacillates between sounding like a drunk on the corner bar stool and a starry eyed child seeking autographs at the player's lot fence. Add in the KC shtick and he sounds almost real. Please stop responding to this fool, people. Sorry i get excited about the performance of a rookie. 26 homers in limited at bats
  9. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 04:56 AM) No offense, but if this was Moncada's stat line folks would be saying, "It's his first season, darn it. Give him a chance. Relax. he'll be fine." Because it's Davidson ... ugh his first season's 26 homers? Throw 'em back in the water; small fish to fry. Need bigger fish. See I care that it's his first season. I think those numbers are ... OK? How many rookies in Sox history have had 26 homers? Pete Ward would have killed to hit 26 home runs for Chicago.
  10. QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 05:32 AM) By "this board", do you mean rational adults who are not wowed by 26 HRs and instead see a terribly flawed baseball player that currently boasts a .222 AVG, .264 OBP, .716 OPS, -0.7 WAR, lackluster defense and mediocre minor league numbers? Please, get started. 26 home runs in his first season? And he still hasn't had that many at bats. I happen to love what he's done. If he somehow got to 30 I'd hoist a Miller Lite for him. 30 frickin homers in part time duty basically. It's so weird how different I am philosophy wise than most posters on this board. I guess it's old school eye test guy vs. modern advanced statniks.
  11. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 05:32 AM) I thought the tank was on when Avi fell, but then I saw that Merrifield hadn't even touched 3rd yet and my heart sank. Then Cain had to go and make my day worse by getting doubled off So weird. I had the opposite sensation. I was so mad KC was about to tie it then I saw Avi with this amazing throw, a great tag and great throw to first and incredible throw by Jose and tag by Anderson and fistbump by Anderson so happy to win a meaningless game. I screamed in delight. Damn I was so frickin happy to beat the Royals. And happy for the fans who seemed into it at the Cell.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 04:02 AM) I will say this. Its a different kind of game thread. Even in the inning where the Sox came back with the 5 run 4th all the talk was about how Lopez looked . No mention of the Anderson RBI. No mention of the Davidson 2 run HR. Only when Moncada hit the other 2 run bomb did people comment. Davidson ... don't get me started. Let's just say he's not liked so much on this board.
  13. Boy do we stink, Harry. Lost to Providence tonight on a long pass with about 2 minutes left. TD came after Rice's junior QB got picked off on a horrible read. That Rice transfer at running back does not hit the hole hard. He is so tentative. Our QB is mediocre at best and we have no talent at receiver. I give all high school kids credit for trying but it looks like Rice has hit a talent drought after years of college type talent. Did we stop searching for area talent and try to get them to go to Rice? Don't get me wrong. High school kids deserve credit for trying and I will never blast them, but after years of excellence since 2014 we really stink this year. What's your take on future of Rice football? U think coach Badke will move on or is he a legend in the making?
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 03:51 AM) Giving breaks is a two way street Gregg. You can't ask others to relent on their views when you yourself will not budge. Don't take it so personally and relish in the win. OK but it just makes me mad at times. I try to comment on the game the rare occasions I post in the game thread.
  15. Amen Buehrle, it was exciting.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 03:40 AM) Come on Gregg, seriously? Well my gosh. How many times do the same people have to throw in that they want us to blow leads?? I can be a repeat record but geez can you give us a break with the root for losses when we all know you want losses?? How bout pointing out the special moments like Avi's defense tonight?? I KNOW that guy wants us to lose. Why not just post it every inning?
  17. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 02:10 AM) Alrighty - love the Moncada bomb but I really hope we lose this game in the 8th or 9th. Do u ever get tired of saying the same thing? We get it ... you root for losses. It doesn't make you special. We know your position on the matter. How bout some praise for Avi on that last throw and the earlier one? A sports fan respects s*** like Avi threw out there tonite.
  18. I tell u what ... Avi Garcia is one helluva ballplayer right now. Geezus some good throws tonight. I'd be for him getting a huge extension just to reward him for his season. Hell I'd rather have players have the money than Jerry and the partners. Hail to you Avi Garcia for one helluva season. Now you are throwing leather? Bless u Avi for a helluva year! here's to your health in the future cause that's big with Avi.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 10:44 PM) 3 needs: 1. Pitching 2. Defense 3. Hitting We'll never be serious contenders again until we get one stud veteran starter and three good relievers via free agency to be added to our young core. Now could that be put off another year? Sure as we tank for another top pick. I'm skeptical we'll ever be elite defensively. Might ultimately cost us when we get good. Might not beat the elite teams in playoffs with crap Sox defense. Hitting should be OK in the future if we keep Abreu and Avi to go with all the young studs. Catcher must get better.
  20. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 07:26 PM) Greg - I think China is exerting what influence it has behind the scenes to try to keep NK in check. China does not want war on the Korean peninsula for a lot of reasons. But China also benefits from North Korea's existence generally. They don't want to deal with a flood of refugees (war or complete destabilization of NK), they don't want American allies (a unified Korean peninsula) on their borders. I know this has been said before in this thread, but Kim Jong Un knows that the second he launches a nuke or conventional weaponry, he starts a war he cannot possibly survive. Good. I hope China is active behind the scenes here telling Kim to say whatever he wants publicly, but to keep those nukes in the water, not hitting land anywhere.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 06:32 PM) While greg is off in gregland, I am curious what the rest of Soxtalk thinks of this off-season as it relates to Avi. Extend Trade Play it out If trade is your first choice, how little of a return would you be OK with in a trade of Garcia? I would play it out. Like somebody said, there's no law that says we have to try to extend him now. Even Avi "probably" is aware there hasn't been a pattern of excellence. If he's smart he'll work out hard in the offseason and have another stellar season. I do agree with whomever wrote there's no reason to extend him now. We are rebuilding; he is re-inventing himself, so just keep on keeping on during another rebuild season. Trading him would be foolish UNLESS you are just trying to tank, quite frankly. Dealing Avi would definitely weaken the team at this point. As far as the return in a trade? I dunno. I wouldn't expect much unless there's some NL general manager simply in love with him. There's absolutely no reason to do anything. Just play ball next spring and see what happens. If he someday wants too much $$ to stay with the Sox, the Sox do 'project' to have at least 3 star outfielders for the rebuilt team in Eloy, Robert and Rutherford and some others like Polo, etc.
  22. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 06:04 PM) I believe China wants NK to keep SK in check, for lack of a better term. Kind of like Germany after WWII. A united Korea is a threat to China. While China taking control would be ideal, if you ever watched MASH you would realize that is not ideal for China and communism in that region. Good post, Harry. Do you think China would step in and help the USA if Kim sets a deadline for removal of sanctions and says he will launch so many nukes the day the deadline passes? Is there any point China would save the day so to speak?
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 05:45 PM) You definitely have your priorities straight. An entire community of brown and black folks are upset at how they are being treated with so many high-profile cases of their people being murdered for no reason. But let's make sure a bunch of guys playing a kids' sport can happily ignore all of that for the greater good of entertainment. I'm talking about sports. How many athletes have protested? I think my position is held by many athletes here. How many have been protesting during the anthem? I'm not worked up negatively about any athlete who disrespects the anthem. It's his/her right of course. I'm saying it's not the best tactic for a player in a team sport. If it was a positive tactic more would be doing it. Cmon. 8 of every 10 people I meet despise Trump and what he stands for. And most despise the police and their unnecessary horrific killings of innocent people they stopped. But this is sports. How much do you hear cliche wise from coaches and players about the team? It's not smart for one guy to take all the attention by protesting like that. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 05:47 PM) Don't hide by King when you're doing that because he sure as heck didn't stand for what you're claiming he did. OMG. Hide by King? I've done college and high school papers on him. He is one of my heroes. I need to shut up because Dr. King was a peaceful man, a Nobel Prize winner whom I respect no matter what you say that I hide behind him. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 05:49 PM) He also didn't advocate looting and violence. Yes sir he did not! That's what I'm talking about today: looting, violence, breaking windows, disrupting traffic where people will die if they can't get to the hospital. Dr. King wanted NONE of that folks. Kudos to the Nobel voters for recognizing his efforts toward peace. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 05:52 PM) Cool, neither is anyone else in this thread. greg finds a way to complain about plenty of nonviolent protests as well and has demanded that they be 100% legal and not inconvenience anyone. He's free to think that, but he can't hide behind King's legacy because that sure isn't what he stood for. It's not too much to demand a protest to be legal. Legal protests are effective as I indicated in that article I posted. Not one or two but 8 examples of King's legal protests. I'll stop now. If you think I am scum I can't do anything to change your opinion. I'm done discussing St. Louis and won't comment again until the next unfortunate incident and resulting protests. Maybe there won't be any more. We can hope the cops start behaving the right way in ALL instances. All I want is peace for all no matter if u believe it or not.
  24. I'm not doing a history lesson on Dr. King who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his "nonviolent resistance to racial prejudice in America." How bout this ONE article for research purposes though. https://www.yahoo.com/news/martin-luther-ki...vil-rights.html p.s. What in the hell good are unlawful protests in which people are put in harm's way?? Do you want one of your loved ones to get arrested on a serious felony charge of rioting (life ruined BTW; it's over, might as well either reserve a spot on the food stamp lists) or worse yet, DIE in a disruptive protest? Or get brain damage from a bottle hitting your loved one in the head; or have your loved one not be able to get to the hospital because of hooligans in the streets blocking the way?? That's more than simply"inconveniencing people" as you put it. Dr. King pleaded for PEACE. Peaceful demonstrations! None of this nonsense was in his protest vocabulary.
  25. QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 05:34 AM) Russia, Greg. I highlighted Russia. OK. My error.
