  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 01:22 AM) Holland is a flyball pitcher. He was a bad match for the Sox from the get go. With all the home games left and warm weather, his ERA will only grow. He's an independent league pitcher. Send him to an Indy team. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 01:23 AM) Good rebuild loss.Holland sucks we weren't getting much for him in the first place anyway. Acquiring him was such a ridiculous move. He's so bad. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 01:23 AM) Guess the only starter that gets traded is Pelfrey...and maybe Q. That was the nail in the coffin. Pelfrey? No fantasy owner in their right mind would want him, why would an MLB team?? QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 01:27 AM) Who the hell is trading for Pelfrey? Amen. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 01:45 AM) I like Jake Petricka You like all Sox players. I say that with admiration not disdain QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 02:19 AM) Hawk is in a good mood tonight. Much more enjoyable. He seems kind of crabby to me. At least since I've tuned in.
  2. Wow. Anderson learning how to hit? He should be close to .300 OBP after 2 walks in one game.
  3. You guys really should listen to Howard Stern on youtube. He's had some great takes on the idiocy of juries (Cosby case, this case in Minnie, OJ). He says these morons on juries just can't convict. Some guy called in Howard to say he was a holdout on a jury recently. Some woman on the jury would not convict a child molester who tried to influence the jury by dressing impeccably in a great suit and looking so professional. There was tape of the young innocent child saying what the guy did. The one juror would not convict because she didn't want to believe anybody could do that to a child. The juror (who phoned Stern) yelled at her and made the judge make her listen to the tape of the kid over and over. Everybody else wanted to give in and let the juror have her way, so they could finally go home to their families and end the annoying trial. But finally the man's efforts worked and the juror gave in to send the rat up the river. The Stern caller said the jurors had to agree to pray together for the woman to agree on a guilty verdict. Howard has some non PC takes on the idiocy of juries and presumed guilt of people like Cosby, etc. Cosby's peeps were celebrating a fricking hung jury. Howard played audio and Cosby even did his Fat Albert yell upon leaving the courtroom. Howard said the jury wouldn't convict Cosby because again he was all dressed up for trial and the idiotic jury couldn't say Cliff Huxtable was guilty, even though Cosby has admitted giving some of the women pills for gawd sakes. What a creep!!! Howard is available all over youtube on these issues. Stern rules!
  4. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 08:01 PM) A majority of people are actually independent. Yeah they feel forced to pick a side but I have voted for just as many Republicans as I have Democrats. This thread creation is good for business. Not on this board. This place is Democrat haven, not heaven. We've got some real party poopers on here. I never knew it til Trump won. They assumed Hillary had it but boy they showed their real colors once the Democrats blew their layup in the last presidential election.
  5. Minnesota always is pesky against the Sox. Piranhas Ozzie called em. Hopefully we get one this series or the downward spiral to oblivion might be back.
  6. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 07:35 PM) I have lived my entire life in the city of Chicago. I have three kids that go to private schools. I am really thinking hard about moving not only out of Chicago but the state as well. Maybe it is the same elsewhere but the city of Chicago just seems to be crushing its middle class citizens. My wife and I make a nice living but it's just a constant grind that is now really weighing us down. Taxes/fees just kept pounding us and pounding us and we reap zero benefit as the schools and parks by us suck to high heaven. The low property tax used to be something to hang your hat on but those are on the verge of being doubled over just a few year span and my water bill has gone up 500% under this new mayoral regime. Again I have three kids and uprooting them does seem hard but I am pretty certain I could get a decent job just about anywhere. Harry. How does Wisconsin stack up compared to Chicago? You could always move right over the border up north past O'Hare 50 miles? Or delightful Lake Geneva? I would never recommend Indiana or Iowa. Kansas City is a very very pretty town, very nice people. I don't know how our taxes stack up in Missouri or Kansas.
  7. Apparently nobody was watching. A rerun of Americas funniest videos killed Kelly's boring show in the ratings.

But I remember posting something about this during wintertime and got reamed on here. It was a thread about Chicago taxes being ridiculous now and people moving out of the city in droves.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) Have you not paid attention like his entire career? Lip said he was grossly out of shape, hence my question. I had thought I read he was a hard worker but that thrust that into question.
  10. Taking into consideration the fact Q has sucked this year or been very average, I think it's obvious an NL team that needs a starter is the answer. To tell you the truth, I think the Sox actually could save the Cubs season (don't know if they want to). Q would really give them a jolt of greatness (goodness at least) and him being hungry for a pennant would be a breath of fresh air for them. I've heard the Cubs have the WS hangover. They need a guy like Q who could really electrify the north side, at least wake up the Cubs. I dont follow the Cubs so dont know if they need a hitter. Do they need a Frazier? He'd be good back in the NL. In short, I recommend the Cubs overpay for a Q. Totally overpay. He'd help the Cubs. Yankees also are a natural fit. Yanks have a good team and Q would be a nice way to stave off the RedSales I mean the Red sox. I think Cubs and Yankees would be our best bets to get somebody to overpay. And Sox could throw in another pitcher too
  11. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 02:40 AM) Tim Anderson has about one year of major league experience. People should keep this in mind when judging his performance. Do batters ever "learn" how to become patient? Just wondering. I know Ozzie as a hitter never learned how to lay off pitches. He swung swung swung. Can you learn how to walk consistently? I really truly think Big Hurt should be our hitting consultant forever. He had the best approach.
  12. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 12:18 AM) I don't like to see the Sox lose either HOWEVER given the parameters of the organization both self-imposed and because of things outside their control, I don't see anything else they could have done so I accept the reality of what is and hope for the best. Given the current situation, losing may (notice I said may) turn out to be the best in the long run. What I do know in fact and what history has shown the past 10 years is that the "stars and s***" approach to putting together a club wasn't working. I'm still interested to read any specifics suggestions that you think the Sox could have done otherwise. Lipman. I don't think I should list my suggestions here. I actually have in great detail before and I don't think people want to read 'em again. You are a Sox expert and I respect that. So in 200 words or less tell me your opinion of the MLB Draft as it relates to building a team. My contention has been Alvarez went second (LOL) Sale went 13th (hmmm) and Trout 23rd so my contention has been basically you can get a great player in round one no matter what (if u have good scouts/organization) and dont really need to tank at all cause the draft is a TOTAL crapshoot. Again, I defer to you as a Soxnet writer. You know your s***.
  13. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 12:11 AM) You have to give them the benefit of the doubt be it fair or unfair because frankly they aren't going anyplace until ownership changes. So exactly what are fans supposed to do? Regarding Avi, to me, a half season of genuine excellence doesn't make up yet or erase the uncertainty of two and a half seasons of being out of shape, being a butcher in the outfield and not having a lot of good baseball instincts. I hope he can keep it going. If he can play well (not insanely well) next season I'll be converted...but not yet I'm afraid. Hey Lipman, What's the word on Avi the personality? is he a gamer or a loafer? You mentioned his being out of shape for a couple seasons and that got me to wondering if he's not a hard worker. I always thought Tank was the loafer and Avi worked hard and hustled but I have no inside knowledge as you do.
  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 07:22 PM) Give it a rest dude... we all know your stance, no need to continually bring about your opposition to this school of thought... even if it is done in a delightfully tasteful complementary way. I probably need professional help. Whenever I see the post desiring a loss I just want people to re-examine their thought process on the matter. It also angers me probably more than it should anger any human, considering all the more important issues in the world to get upset about.
  15. How in the world could Chicago win 2 of 3 this series against this team ... on the road? it's miraculous.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 08:13 PM) Good god, move Anderson closer to the plate. Puts weak swings on anything on the outer half I can't believe people aren't in favor of him going down to the minors to learn more about the art of hitting. I'm surprised the statniks are accepting his OBP and not burying him. It's like it's just assumed TA is a star and whatever will be will be.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 08:09 PM) I don't suspect it's going to matter much...his numbers are better, but I don't know that he's going to fool any opposing GMs that badly. I think people are dreaming when they envision these pitchers who have no value on the trade market having value. Shields, Pelphrey Holland, Miguel (even before he got hurt) have no value, folks. They are the kind of guys you DFA at some point when they pull a Humber.
  18. Bummer. I wish Timmy could have faced Happ. The odds of us scoring here just went down.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) It's the smart thing to do. If the best GM in baseball history thinks tanking is smart, then I'm confident I'm not wrong Yes sir, but the best manager in baseball thought batting the pitcher eighth was a good idea (LaRussa).
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 08:05 PM) Swarzack ain't helping. Single and triple and now it's 4-3 Jays True, but that was a bizarre indoor baseball type triple. Indoor baseball reeks.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 08:04 PM) Rooting for a loss but 1 run vs 3 runs looks a lot better for Shields value I'm really surprised a good guy like you, a very very smart guy like you is into the rooting for losses thing. Saddens me. You are a brilliant guy and I'm surprised you haven't assessed, like me, the fact the draft is a fricking crapshoot and anything can happen in the draft and tanking is a very very cliche-ish, bad idea. I think if you study the issue completely the logical conclusion on the tanking issue is the one I hold.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 07:01 PM) Yep hars hit balls and pitch count over 80. Had a chance to get him out of there with the lead and positive momentum. Pitching coaches and managers will always let the veterans have their way and stay in the game too long. Six innings would have been a nice outing for Shields and they wanted him to have six even though he was horrid in the fifth and sixth.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) Major fail there by RR and Cooper Definitely. When you have pitchers as lousy as Shields you get five innings out of him somehow, that's enough.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) Medicaid overhaul faces tough test in Trump country ‘Around here, there ain’t no jobs,’ says one beneficiary about the prospect of having to work to qualify for benefits. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/06/18/m...-country-239655 Doesn't matter if we blame Dems or Republicans, what is the solution? Is forcing families to relocate for jobs that barely pay a liveable wage going to work as a practical solution? Why/why not? I wouldn't advocate making people move in order to get a minimum wage job. Eventually we're probably headed to a society more in line what Bernie and the Millenials want. There IS going to be free college and there is going to be a system in which everybody is given $50,000 to start the work year, something like that. Now we just have to convince the government to not tax us so much. But I see a Bernie Sanders type society in the future. Millenials want everybody to be equal and everybody to be in a nirvana-like environment.
  25. Is it raining in Toronto? Indoor baseball sucks.
