Sox Crush Blue Jays winners thread
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) You'll reach a point in life where you realize that some conversations just aren't worth any more continued engagement. Well it's pretty bad when we can't have good winners threads anymore. Can you imagine in any normal season only being five out in mid June with all these home games left and our division sucking? And we can't even have a good winners thread. Very sad.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 06:50 AM) Any tinkering likely would not have kept Avi around; and for sure no Davidson and L Garcia would be unlikely as well in a "go for it" year. In fact they might've been traded for more veterans- some young players certainly would have. And it's highly unlikely those veterans would have performed anywhere near the level these guys are performing. What do you guys have against contending? Nobody ever addresses my comment about trying to win with a real manager. Robin was THAT bad. And Sox brass wasn't ready to give up on Avi yet. Nobody would have wanted him in a trade and if he had another ridicuously bad season they'd just drop him as they did Tank. You keep Sale and Eaton, those are two huge pieces. We are 5 out. What would we be with them?? Like I said even after the Sale and Eaton trades the Sox are technically afloat at just five back. You bring up Moncada and one of the starters the Sox acquired, could the Sox contend? I think our starting rotation is pretty darn bad so I wouldn't bet squat on us contending the rest of the way, but facts are facts.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 05:25 AM) Quintana, yay. Winning... poop. You seriously think we'd be better off at a middle order pick in 18 than being able to add someone like Beer or Gray? Oh yea, this is Greg I'm talking to... shouldn't ask. We're five games out. Had the team tinkered instead of done the so called rebuild we might win the division this year. Sale went 13; Trout was what 23rd? Who gives a flip about the draft? We're five games out and never gave the team a chance with a real manager, not Robin.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 02:46 AM) It's so much better to win then lose. I think we need to be thinking of who have to replace players that everyone is calling to be traded. If we trade Frazier for instance who takes his place? Davidson? Davidson. Is hitting homers but he seems good at DH. Is it not better to hang on to some of these guys another couple years while our minor league talent develops? A blend of rookies and veterans makes for a competitive team. I think the trade chips are the pitching staff guys especially in the pen. I agree El Rockin but they disagree with you and me. The rebuilding people don't give a flip who replaces the ones we trade for now. They feel it will just help us lose and losses are what they thrive on now during the so called rebuild. Remember they want us to lose so we get a top three pick. Nevermind that Chris Sale went No. 13 in the draft -- that's right No. 13.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 03:34 AM) How about those White Sox! And the O's fans are talking FIRE SALE! Let's trade for Machado! Trade for Machado, bring up Moncado? Maybe 'rush' one of the pitchers we acquired from the Nats? Hmmmm. Winners threads rock baby!

Sox Crush Blue Jays winners thread
Quintana pleases me and El Rockin cause we win and he pleases the trade people cause he builds his trade stock. Melky continues to have his best year as a Sox. Sox win a blowout game, seems like more blowout wins this season than the last 2 years combined under one-run loss Robin. The new guy from the Pirates raps three hits. Sox are six under .500 with all those home games to play. I'm telling you, el Rockin is close to being right thinking we're in the race. Greg is right thinking of what might have been. GO SOX! Go El Rockin! Cmon give the team its due and comment in a winners thread folks!

2017 AL Central Catch all thread
The Royals with this pathetic team of theirs is 2 games out in the Central. But we couldn't compete this year for this crap division title? If I was Jerry I'd be concerned at what leadership has designed.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 09:47 PM) Meh...all this doom and gloom about Quintana. Honestly...look at his starts tho. It's not like he's getting stellar run support by any means. He's given up more than 4 runs twice...in back to back crappy outings against Boston and AZ (and AZ rakes at home...best record in baseball at home). Besides that: 4 runs- 1 time (L) 3 runs- 3 times 2-(L) 1-No decision 2 runs- 1 time (W) 1 run- 2 times Both No decisions 0 runs- 1 time (W) Correct me if I missed something here. So honestly the guy has only had 2 really bad outings this year. Given his track record...durability...and affordability as well as control...you'd be nuts to think teams won't be calling Hahn. Let's not let this 2-8 record you...he hasn't pitched that awful bad. You don't settle. I guess the eye test doesn't matter at all. He's looked very mediocre. Couple the eye test with traditional stats like ERA and you get a very average pitcher right now.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 07:09 PM) Christopher Kamka @ckamka 27m27 minutes ago Avisaíl García is hitting .448 (13 for 29) during his current 8-game hitting streak (1 for 1 so far today) #WhiteSox Avi might start sucking again at some point. But one thing is clear. It would be a shame if he's not an All Star this year. He's got a great BA and a helluva lot of RBI. He deserves at least one all star bid at this point and that is right here, right now. Even if he goes 0-for-70 from now to the All Star game, his RBI total will be worthy.

O's and Sox "getaway day" game thread
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 03:08 AM) You are certainly entitled to your opinion. First off Baltimore is a .500 mediocre team with major pitching issues right now...we aren't talking about taking say three of four from Houston or Colorado or Los Angeles are we? Regarding your other points all I can offer in response is what history shows concerning the "stars and s***" approach to building a team...seven losing seasons out of the last 10, zero playoff appearances since 2008, haven't even had consecutive winning seasons since 2003-2006. The fact is this organization wasn't going to spend the amount of money needed to sign the 'two or three' players needed and frankly there were very few game changers available. It wasn't going to work...not with all the holes this team had / has on the roster right now. Let's simply accept the reality of things, embrace the rebuild, hope for better days in the future and stop wasting time and energy lamenting over 'what if.' Just my opinion. paragraph 1.) Yes, but Baltimore was expected to win this year just as we were expected to suck as the supposed (slow) rebuild begins. My point is with conventional changes and the improvement of said players and presence of Sale/Eaton hmmmm it gets you to thinking division title. We never gave it a shot with a decent manager (even though Rick is a bunting fool). 2.) Horrific manager deserves lot of the blame in my world. Remember he wasn't close to competent as a skipper. Great player; his teams reeked in all facets. 3.) I dunno. I don't see that many holes in my world had they tinkered. 4.) What if is my way of questioning a questionable front office. Burger? OK he might be great but on paper he's a Missouri State baseball player who also could be Josh Fields. I want proven players thru free agency baby.

2017 Democratic Thread
I wonder how the kids feel being called "snowflakes" and I wonder how the parents who've spoiled little Jane and Johnny feel about their precious ones being called snowflakes. How did we create this generation that doesn't want to offend anybody and this generation that thinks comedians are bad cause they offend people?

If you were comfortably rich, what would you do?
QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 05:51 PM) I would travel and invest in properties around the world. Then I would get bored. I really think my life is more fulfilling the way it is now then if I were to have hit the lottery or something quick and easy. I have the things that I want but I have to work hard for them and they don't come all at once. I live a very satisfying life. Now once I am old and no longer interested in working hard and reaching goals then talk to me about winning the lottery then. If I suddenly had billions I would definitely give away some of it like Bill Gates does. I also would take a million of it and go to Vegas and play high roller for one weekend at least. Then I would travel extensively one year. After that I'd settle down and volunteer a lot. As far as Shipps comments here. I know what you are saying, but I've seen some guys now in their 50s who have never worked a day in their life thanks to their dad and moms having mega millions. Their lives look pretty satisfying to me. They have trumped up fake jobs in their dads' companies. But they don't go to work, they have boats and houses all over and have lived off daddy's money their entire adult lives. Again, they seem pretty lazy and pretty happy.

Majority Whip Steve Scalise Shot at Charity Baseball Practice
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 09:42 PM) I don't pray, but I'm hoping Scalise comes through this alright. NO ONE deserves to be shot for their political beliefs, and any liberal who says he "had it coming" is not someone I want to associate with. Best wishes to you for writing a great statement like that.

Majority Whip Steve Scalise Shot at Charity Baseball Practice
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 09:42 PM) I absolutely hate every single thing about this. I was in Arlington yesterday when it happened. Not far. I had lunch with a former Congressman hours after the shooting, and it was definitely weird for him. He'd played in that game for 23 years. I don't pray, but I'm hoping Scalise comes through this alright. NO ONE deserves to be shot for their political beliefs, and any liberal who says he "had it coming" is not someone I want to associate with. But I will say that I hate that a deranged, far-left radical can completely undermine every single bit of progress liberals have made against the Trump agenda in one swoop, and validate every Trump supporter in America. I'm nervous about the impact it has here in Georgia. I just got to the 6th this afternoon for GOTV, and both campaigns have had to put out statements about receiving death threats in the last two hours. I'm nervous about knocking on doors all weekend. But we can't let fear dictate our lives, and we need to spread a message of compassion. We have to start listening to each other. The end. No time for "I told you sos." But my statements about Texas becoming its own country or California or several other states breaking away don't seem so far off. Our country is so un-divided right now. We all hate each other. Liberals vs. conservatives are ready for war with their pathetic threats against each other on social media, etc. I've never run into more people in real life and social media who DESPISE the president this badly. All these horrible incidents of violence. It is wicked of me to say but it's not unreasonable to think Trump is going to get killed before he's impeached and if some nutjob or some anger driven crazed person kills him, the riots will be all over. I'm praying for the best, but the USA is so divided right now. It's crazy at all the hate. I hesitate to say the only time we come together as a country is in these cities where disasters occur. We do bond together AT THE SCENE of these horrific acts. Not as a nation though. GOD BLESS AMERICA! CMON PEOPLE WAKE UP AND LETS BE TOGETHER not divided.

O's and Sox "getaway day" game thread
Who would have ever thought the Sox could win 3 of 4 from Baltimore in June? And only be seven under .500. I'll never be convinced we needed a rebuild in this age of parity. The Sox are trotting out there some of the worst starting pitchers imaginable and are only 7 under .500. They could easily have upgraded 2-3 positions in the offseason via free agency. We could have still had Sale and Eaton with this team that is featuring a rejuvenated Avi, a rejuvenated bullpen (for the most part; yes it's reeked at times) and a live bat in Davidson. Abreu is still good and Melky is having his best year as a White Sox. Catching also is acceptable with this current guy hitting about .250 and having a decent arm. You all can say what you want, but there's no reason to completely rebuild when you have as many veterans as the Sox. This division blows and it wouldn't have taken much of an effort to win it. That's my take. I'm sure El Rockin agrees at least. Or El Rockin likes the rebuild and likes this team as well, lol. I say it lovingly El Rockin. You like whatever the Sox do at all times. Go El Rockin!

NBC News/Megyn Kelly
Apparently Kelly's ratings were pathetic for the first show with Erin Andrews and I read (don't know if it's true or not) they may try to get Kathy Griffin as a guest. That would be smart for Griffin IMO.

SSS Theater: Avi Garcia
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 01:34 PM) The stat geeks have ruined this site for me. Why not just sit back, relax, and enjoy the fact that he's having a tremendous season. Instead there's adjusted contact rate stats, ground ball average and peripherals. Why even play the games? Just use fangraphs, war, and any other made up stat to determine the winner through a computer. It seems like every thread deteriorates into a discussion about WAR, peripherals, fip, xfip, or some other random stat. Nice post. Just as many posters refuse to read my posts, I won't read the statniks' posts. I just skim through them. Like I said, some won't rest until Avi gets in an Avi-like slump that tears into his batting average. Yet the same people will forgive some of the other younger players like Anderson for his ridiculous hitting philosophy (no walks) with the crutch that he's young.

Orioles vs White Sox 7:10 Pm
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 02:21 AM) The stranger thing is that we haven't even talked renewal with Avi. I suggested a while back that offer him a 6 year / $72 million extension. His market value has probably gone up $3 million per year since than and if we don't do anything soon, he'll be out of our budget. Avi could be hitting .390 on Sept. 1 and some people would be saying, "Wait until the end of the season" before they'd even consider locking him up, thinking an 0-for-40 would get that average back where it belongs.

NBC News/Megyn Kelly
Now people are calling for a boycott of the network. Too many boycotts of late. Why does this guy think Sandy Hook is fake? If this Alex Jones guy is a journalist, it wouldn't be too hard for him to go to the town where the tragedy occurred and find out it actually happened. Is Alex Jones a nut? Mentally disturbed?

2017 Independents Thread
I feel like I'm a Republican but facts suggest strongly I'm an independent. I never vote for the Republican presidential candidate. I despise Brownback and all he stands for. I loved Bernie and he's a socialist. I despise a lot of democrat candidates for president. I love Ventura. So I guess I am an Independent.

Not throwing for now https://mobile.twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/...371948683440128 If Nate was too stubborn to change his delivery, well he has noone to blame but himself. His style of pitching has to be murder on the elbow. I can see that and I'm no ptatc.

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 02:18 AM) Anderson missing the ball by a foot, not once, but 3 times in that atbat He has a long ways to go. Seems like he has a lot of natural ability but won't do squat in the bigs until he learns plate discipline. Might never happen.

June 12th Game Thread: White Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles
Avi is what sports is all about. Buried by the fans. Buried by the experts. Close to being given the Tank treatment he turns in this. Hail to Avi. Where the draftniks can get all excited about some college third baseman, I prefer to be excited by Avi. I read the draft thread but won't go in there and cause fights. I'll let the draft lovers enjoy the draft and stick with my love -- the CURRENT big league season.
