  1. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 07:08 PM) Greg, that news story is like two years old. Do you really think there are roving gangs of "white privilege monsters" accosting white people all over the country? But... you also posted today that we need to be worried about ISIS beheadings within the US of A. So... I'll just echo that you have an odd worldview. What is the white privilege thing then? A concept? The basis is to get whites to check their privilege or demand they state they are privileged. They are not setting up booths in restaurants and bars where you come up and check your privilege so what's the point of it then?
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 06:55 PM) Believe it or not, Mother Teresa had more than her fair share of critics...perhaps even more than Donald Trump if you count the entire world. Even some of the people who earlier in the day marched with the white privilege people got accosted in the library. I mean it should go both ways. The white privilege monsters don't even know who they are approaching in some cases. Take the time to get a clue and don't accost your own supporters. Don't accost anybody. Leave me alone, please.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/01/us/lebron-ja...hate/index.html America's Week of Hate As Smithsonian.com noted, in recent weeks someone hung nooses at the Port of Oakland in California, inside a University of Maryland fraternity house and outside a Crofton, Maryland middle school. That's in addition to the nooses and bananas found on American University's campus recently after students elected the first-ever black woman to head the student government. ... The 33-year-old LeBron James, who is no stranger to speaking out on racial strife, further found himself lamenting the state of race relations in the country. "No matter how much money you have, no matter how famous you are, no matter how many people admire you, being black in America is tough," he said. It's tragic that so many people are prejudiced. I don't get it. It's just sad. I can't think of one person on this board who even exhibits the slightest of racist tendencies. At least we can congratulate ourselves on being color blind. I'm glad I turned out to be somebody who does not see color. I've had best friends of all colors, worker friends of all colors. I don't want a medal, I'm just stating that I can't understand why somebody hates somebody else because of their skin color. Prejudice and racism is beyond bad but if it's not gone by now I guess it never will go away. Who would hate on LeBron James for gosh sakes? He's done a lot of good for people with his money. He's a good person. yet there are wackos who want him dead because of his skin color. Sick.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 06:49 PM) You have a strange world view. Trust me, I do things for others. I'm not going to be Trump like and list them or boast about them here or mention anything I may do here. I just don't appreciate gangs of people telling me to do things that won't accomplish anything like "check your privilege now!" I feel like that's very very rude of them when they don't know me.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 06:45 PM) Honestly, if you're doing what is good and right, who the f*** cares what others say about you? Internet critics are always going to be there no matter what you do. There's no pleasing everyone on everything. Being a good person and helping out your neighbor should be a part of your duty as a citizen of the world. If you're born in the lemon orchard, offer to show people born outside of the orchard not only how to make lemonade, but how to start their own orchards. I agree. My point is this goes two ways. Do all the things you suggest and expect nothing out of it. Do it cause it's the right thing to do. At the same time, I don't need to be Mother Theresa-like and then have somebody aggressively scream at me and tell me to check my white privilege. At least show me the respect to get to know me or leave me the f*** alone in the library or on the street. Don't scream "check your privilege" at me.
  6. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) So, I'm still curious, now that we're all aware that we are privileged, what next? Be ready to check your white privilege and cite your white privilege when a white privilege mob approaches you in the library. Be ready to publicly cower and proclaim that privilege. Like you said in your post or implied, it's silly. The white privilege mob wants you to scream in agreement with them that you have privilege. That's all. And you could be the best person imaginable for all they know. You could be Mother Theresa in terms of helping people. They don't know and won't bother to find out. They'll just be furious that you have white privilege and you better be ready to check it. And if you have a shred of pride you won't state any privilege cause they don't have the right to threaten you or yell at you if you don't declare your privilege. I agree with your post. What next? My point is nothing will satisfy those who say whites have privilege because of all the past atrocities. Rather than put their energy 100 percent into being successful, they want you to check your privilege. Why?? Cause they said to do so. It accomplishes very little except to harbor resentments and fighting. So I state my privilege to them when they ask me to. What happens next? Nothing. They move on to the next person if you are lucky enough. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 04:55 PM) You support those that don't have the same opportunities that you do - or are treated unfairly because they didn't win the "life lottery." You learn everything that you can about other ethnicities, cultures, and classes in America -read articles, talk to people, get to know them and where they come from. Don't pass it off as someone else's problem and don't jump to conclusions and pass judgement on others that don't live the same life as you do. Everything that we are is a product of our environment and opportunities. Go out of your way to use your connections and abilities to help raise someone else up that wouldn't normally have the same opportunity that you do. Put yourself in someone else's shoes and act upon that experience in a positive way. You could still do all these things (and a lot of people on this board DO do those things) and be lambasted by the white privilege gangsters if they approach you. Why? Cause they don't want to hear positive things like this. Would an angry person asking you to state your privilege care or even listen to you as you tell them you've done these positive things? Of course not. I love your post but like most things in life the only thing you'll get out of doing these things is the personal realization you are a good person (which is nice enough). But my point is you could still do all these things and be blasted if you refused to check your privilege or state it when approached by somebody who rudely tells you to do so. I like your post but like most positive things in life, the benefit it personal. You know you are a good person, a better person. But to the privilege monsters? They will STILL blast you. They're not going to listen to you rattle off these good things you've done. They'll just scream that you have privilege by gosh!
  7. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) Like at all. Greg, the world in this current era is still more peaceful and safer, statistically, than its ever been. Chill. The Arianda Grande concert incident could have happened here. North Korea is getting ready to fire bombs our way. We have a president who is too aggressive, some might say crazy. You have ISIS bastards capable of doing anything including beheading you whether you believe it or not. I still don't buy the stats. You think Chicago is safe? Let's hope this summer things settle down in Chicago compared to last summer. All the murders.
  8. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 12:17 AM) ...to you. You stopped liking him whenever you did. Many of us did not, and continue to like him to this very day. Yes sir. I still like him. He and Wimpy were awesome those last few road games. He's jealous of Stoney or sick of him and those broadcasts can be s***ty. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 12:36 AM) To most people. Half the board here, all of the national media, various ranking sites. I like Ken Harrelson, but he's not fit to be in the booth anymore. Bull. He's fit to be in the booth. He's a legend and still has it.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 02:11 AM) ALL OF THIS WAS A DIRECT RESULT OF THAT STUPID BUNT THE INNING BEFORE...WHITE SOX GO AHEAD 2-0, the entire game changes in complexion. Blow the opportunity, you ALMOST always give up runs the next inning. This is not the NL. The AL teams just have way too much firepower to play small ball like it's 2005 the first two months. Starting to think the Cubs were right on Renteria....he's like Torborg/Manuel, good managers at working with youngsters but NOT the right man to lead them to the promised land. (But at least he played a major role in getting Luis Robert and will be around until the beginning of the 2019 season or halfway through that year.) He's got to go. The bunting thing is a huge deal. He's a relic. Bunts suck. Proven time and again.
  10. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ May 31, 2017 -> 09:35 PM) Yes, both are morons, but I applaud her for having the gonads to do it. It is so incredibly sad that somehow this is less socially acceptable than the fake Obama lynchings. In fact, this is more socially acceptable than the previously mentioned things. Trump deserves people being mean spirited to him. He is a hateful, mean-spirited, selfish piece of s*** who brings disgrace to the Oval Office. The fact that Andrew Jackson is his presidential hero tells you all you need to know about him as a human being and as a president. He is president for make benefit glorious nation of Trumpistan. The gonads to do what exactly?? All she did was hold up a head and didn't explain WTF. Man you really hate Trump.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2017 -> 08:55 PM) Does anyone actually like her as a comedian? Her positives are about as high as Sean Penn. It would be quite different if this was Tom Hanks, The Rock, Clooney or Bono trolling Trump, etc. They actually have viable careers to lose, just like The Dixie Chicks and Sinead O'Connor did. This is Don Rickles or Joan Rivers territory here, yet even less classy, which is quite difficult to pull off. What's funny is this is getting 5x more coverage than the seemingly more impactful issue of global climate change. Hey, don't rip my Don Rickles. Loved him. I didn't like Rivers much. I don't find Griffin funny. Her standup is mostly about celebrities and their TV shows, etc., and her dealings with them. It's OK. I don't despise her humor but I'm not a huge fan. I'm more a Louis CK guy or Barry Crimmins. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ May 31, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) I applaud Kathy Griffin. Good for her. Like was said earlier, the right-wing nutjobs used to have mannequins with Obama's face on it hanging from a damn tree. What's wrong right wingers? Can't take a little free speech? Hypocrites. Pointing out right-wing hypocrisy is always fun. I may not agree with what people say, but I will defend their right to say it. Trump is a horrible businessman, a worse human being and an even worse president(if that is even possible for him to be a worse president than human being) I am embarrassed as an American to have to call him "President." Trump is, in fact, a national embarrassment and one can only hope he was put into office purely with collusion from the Russians, otherwise there is no hope for America in the future if this is found to have not been the case. We are witnessing Nero playing the fiddle as Rome burns to the ground. This isn't about getting even for the morons who hung Obama's fake body from a tree. Those people are morons as well. She didn't say that's why she did it, to get even. Griffin's actions were wrong on many levels. Mostly it was grotesque and not funny. The fact she apologized so quickly shows her intent was mean spirited not artsy. She is Sooooooo stupid for not saving her career by a.) doing what you said, just say she wanted to get even for all the Obama haters hanging him in effigy; that would have worked or b.) again, proclaiming it 2017 ART. Saying it's up to the individual person to decide what it means. She blew it by immediately apologizing for what apparently was humor. It's not funny to hold a severed head that looks just like Trump when we are in real danger from ISIS bastards running around the USA ready to chop our own heads off!!!! All you need to know is her beloved NY Rockin Eve co host, Anderson Cooper, was appalled and blasted her actions on Twitter.
  12. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 31, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) So you don't like the host but continue to listen to the show. Wow, it's exactly like sports talk radio. No way in hell I believe he truly endorses those products through personal experience like he reads. That tells me he is only out for $$$$. However I do like his takes and rants on the anti-Republicans and the other things he rants about. I think it's entertaining s***.
  13. I am surprised my Warhol comparison hasn't sparked more comment. In the final analysis, her only way of surviving this in terms of her career was to not apologize and to discuss the artistic side of what she did. By apologizing, etc., she was admitting in a sick way that she condoned the horrible image of the severed head of Trump. By going the 'art' route, it would have been very interesting to see how this played out. Now she's 100 percent the villain and fired from all her gigs. I mean art is art. And she could have played the art card harder.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 31, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) Why continue to listen? Pop on a podcast or something instead. I'm driving to lunch for gosh sakes. It's not like I'm planning my day listening to Rush-bo like some of his legions. Usually I do put on Classic Vinyl on sirius. Or I'll pop between 610 radio and 810 radio sports talk then hit 980 and see if Rush is in a commercial break or not. Sometimes I get Rush for the three minutes before he hits his commercial break. If he's ranting and raving about something the anti Trumpers did, I'll pick it up during that short period of time.
  15. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 31, 2017 -> 07:17 PM) Where did this fear come from? I haven't heard of any random beheadings happening anywhere in the country. You just described every sports talk radio show in Chicago. a.) When we had all the beheadings on video overseas and there was talk ISIS would do it to us here. b.) Sports talk radio shows here go 10-15 minutes at a time before commercials hit. If you listen to Limbaugh, the most you'll hear is maybe 3 minutes of him yapping then he urgently says he needs to go to a commercial break. And reading those ads for those quack products/services lets me know the host is a flat-out moneymaking liar. Some of these commercials are for things as ridiculous as buying land in the middle of the desert.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ May 31, 2017 -> 07:13 PM) You see Greg, Trump lied. Of course he lies. He's not a good guy, folks.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 31, 2017 -> 07:01 PM) You listen to Rush. Nothing should horrify you I listen to Rush sometimes when I'm in the car at lunch hour. I get a kick out of a.) how he'll talk 'maybe' 2-3 minutes and then they immediately 'have to go' to a commercial and wonder how the hell people can listen to a whole program with so many commercials. b.) i am amazed by those those commercials in which that the host reads a testimonial statement in which he endorses the quack product and pretends sometimes he uses the product. That's all you need to know about the host. That he's endorsing some company that will get the IRS off your back or some such ripoff product. Sure. Anything for a buck. Even my idol, Howard Stern, reads these bulls*** ads. If no commercial is on when I click on Rush's show and I'm in the car driving to lunch, yeah I'm a fan of his takes. BTW: TMZ reports: "Trump family sources tell us Barron was in front of the TV watching a show when the news came on and he saw the bloody, beheaded image. We're told he panicked and screamed, "Mommy, Mommy!" As it was put to us, "He's 11. He doesn't know who Kathy Griffin is and the head she was holding resembled his dad." Melania called out Kathy, saying what she did was disturbing, wrong and "makes you wonder about [her] mental health." President Trump also blasted Griffin for posing with the head, saying, Barron was having a hard time dealing with it." Hmmm ... fishy. He was watching a TV show then the news mysteriously came on with the Griffin story?? I doubt that. First of all, what TV show is going to show the bloody picture?
  18. CNN says "Comey to testify publicly about Trump pushing him to end an FBI probe into an aide's Russia ties" So Trump should be impeached/fired on an "obstruction of justice" charge by Christmas. I doubt he'll want to have long hearings on impeachment, so perhaps he'll pull a Nixon and quit. We'll have one year of Trump as president, then we get the Veep taking over. So Comey winds up being a huge factor in Trump winning and THE factor in Trump being impeached/fired. Interesting. Comey arguably is one of the most important individuals in history.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2017 -> 06:53 PM) CNN canned her from their fake New Year's Eve broadcast. Good. The network called the photos "disgusting and offensive." Having her in Times Square with millions of people would have been a very bad idea. The chances of violence would be pretty huge.
  20. QUOTE (Tony @ May 31, 2017 -> 06:46 PM) Your exact words: "OK fine but I can't believe many people on here aren't horrified by Griffin." This isn't about having a discussion. We are already doing that. You made the statement that you are surprised more people aren't "horrified" by her. So I ask again. What more do you want from people? Read some of the initial posts from people on here. The best you could get out of them was a "yeah, but...." response. Yeah I was surprised more people weren't horrified by Griffin and her actions. But I defend her right to do this. She didn't break any laws and free speech is the best. In some countries she'd be murdered by now for what she did. Here you have the right to do it and I applaud that right 100 percent. However I did expect more condemnation on here from the Trump haters because Griffin's actions were pretty horrific. UNLESS I'm missing the Warhol-excellence of her artisticic display. Maybe this will be remembered as one of the great expressions of art of all time, like Warhol's Campbell soup display. If I'm missing something excellent, shame on me. Though I was never a big fan of Kathy Griffin, I did think she was moderately funny on New Year's Rockin Eve show with Anderson Cooper.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2017 -> 06:43 PM) So Trump tried to hint Barron was affected by it. Did they show it to him or did he find it on his own? If he found it on his own, I'm sure he would have easily found the grab em by the p**** stuff. What was his take on that? Personally, while I think the entire thing was wrong, I think Trump is using his kid for sympathy. That is also disgusting. Maybe not as much, but disgusting. Not a bad take. It's pretty obvious Trump's kid hadn't seen it yet until Donny showed him the pic. Nobody's going to talk about that at school, if school is still in session. I doubt the kid at 10 surfs all the news websites like tmz.com and Twitter. Your take is reasonable. Nobody ever said Trump wasn't disgusting himself. He is a creep no doubt. And assuredly he lied about this. Somebody should call him on it and figure out if Trump's kid did see it, how did he see it? Trump probably showed him the pic.
  22. QUOTE (Tony @ May 31, 2017 -> 06:37 PM) It's 2017 and we just went through the election. Using the word "horrified" to describe ANYTHING Kathy Griffin does is ridiculous. She's an idiot. It was a terrible PR stunt gone wrong and her career is going to pay for it, as it should. What more do you want? Well, I personally saw it on Twitter where it was posted and HAD to look at it as I use Twitter. So it was thrust upon me giving me the right (I thought) to express displeasure about it during the news cycle of the incident. What more do I want? I don't think it's unreasonable to discuss it and give an opinion on it since we're not even 24 hours removed from the initial post of it on Twitter where I had to look at it and go, OMG that's Trump's head, WTF is this? What kind of question is, 'What more do I want?" Can't we discuss things that happen, even when it involves criticizing a Trump hater?
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 31, 2017 -> 06:28 PM) I thought you hated the PC police, Greg? I thought you were all about people speaking their mind? She definitely has the right to do what she did. I applaud her use of Free Speech. I have no problems with her doing "what" she did. Personally? I was grossed out by it. I don't think it was funny. As you may recall I wrote some stuff on here about how we have to add having our heads chopped off to the list of things we need to worry about every day walking the streets or going to the movies. At any moment somebody might come out of nowhere and chop our heads off. So PERSONALLY I didn't like it. Generally I didn't like it as it depicts murder of the president. As far as her right to do it? I applaud her for using her free speech ticket. But like Sinead O'Connor, she will pay with the end of her career. In short ... I love we live in a country where you can do something like that and not get arrested or killed in response by the president who you implied you wanted dead (I know, it's a joke) ... but I also am PERSONALLY turned off by it and feel with free speech comes repercussions and for her that means the end of her career. But I am all for her speaking her mind. I think I have the right to be personally grossed out and offended and concerned. I mean nobody can really explain the joke or the message it was supposed to convey. We haven't had Andy Warhol-like humor in a while; I guess it was Warhol-ish.
  24. Man this disgusting incident is bringing out the "yeah, but ...." crowd. It's pretty horrifying to hold up a decapitated fake head with fake blood dripping down in the video portion. And it's clearly Trump being depicted. Pretty gross and inappropriate and f***ing stupid all at the same time. Definitely not good comedy. Yeah I guess we could bring up all the other incidents like the hanging in effigy of President Obama and Ted Nugent and all that and get mad about them as well. But this one is current. It was despicable and yeah, I do hope her career is ruined over it. There's a chance it could be. She mainly does standup gigs. Vegas now wants nothing to do with her and the smaller venues won't touch her as well. Maybe we who hate it are snowflakes. I just don't care to joke about cutting peoples heads off when that actually is a tactic of one of our enemy's. I guess some of you want to bring up all the horrible examples of inappropriate behavior. OK fine but I can't believe many people on here aren't horrified by Griffin.
  25. Golden State in four or five. Granted the regular seasons means nothing, but GS had a much better season and it's the Warriors' year. Bet the house on GS in four or five, covering the spread in the wins.
