  1. Trading him would be so stupid. To be a contender for wildcard anytime soon we need good pitching. Rotation should be Sale, Johnson, Quintana, Righty free agent veteran we acquire somewhere, and Rodon. Danks bullpen! Put our promising youngsters in the damn bullpen which has sucked during our recent years of suckage. Actually put some guys in the pen who can actually get guys out on a consistent basis. Not rag arm stiffs. So how do we improve the crap lineup? Trade the guy we took No. 1 this year plus another prospect for an MLB catcher, sign a couple free agents while really truly trying to trade Duke, Melky and LaRoche. It makes no sense to trade Q if we are trying to win anything.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 09:45 PM) Before Obama, there was only Carter and then Clinton. 12 years of Dems, 28 years of GOP presidents....Nixon/Ford, Reagan, Bush, GW Bush. So even with demographics seemingly in favor of the Dems, there's no overconfidence because of issues like Citizens United and the continued deterioration of labor groups/influence. Not to mention the fact that Asians are going to be an even faster growing demo than Hispanics until 2065, and it's way too early to assume the GOP will continue to piss off/offend both and force the majority to the Dem side. A young candidate like Rubio with charisma can carve off a lot of votes if he can only manage to articulate moderate or reasonable policies which appeal to both sides from the middle. Triangulation in Clinton vernacular. Can he get there from the right/Tea Party side without offending those same groups that put him in office, only time will tell. I still can't imagine Sanders being electable, Trump...no way, so that leaves Rubio, Kasich and Christie. Kasich has the most experience, but he might have a little too much of that Carson soft-spoken/understated thing going. He's almost too reasonable. Would like to see more fire out of him but playing it close to the vest and watchingthe field implode around him has its merits as well. But Caulfield, does any candidate excite you and make you all happy about the future? I'm a bit scared of Trump, but I tell you the economy is in such a shambles and almost everybody agrees there's no hope for ever having a boon again, I almost would be willing to let Trump try as a last resort. There's no $$$ in America; no prosperity right now, just exorbitant costs of everything with a serious illness threatening to wipe each one of us (except the totally wealthy) out. For some reasons corporations current goals are to pay one person -- the CEO -- about 40 million a year and pay everybody else pennies. What a weird country/world.
  3. Hey, this is not a rip on Hillary. Anybody who posts regularly here knows I despise her so I don't need to get word out on that. I did have a question in the Democratic thread, since you guys are going to win the Presidential election again IMO. And judging from my poll on God I assume we have a fairly Democratic board on Soxtalk, mostly all Demos/liberals. If I'm wrong, my bad. I had a question to you Democrats and Republicans: Q-Partisan politics aside, does anything about your candidate excite you, or make you gung-ho, bursting with pride about being an American and the upcoming Presidential election? Is there anything about your candidate that makes you say, "Damn, these 4-8 years are gonna be great!!! I can't wait!!!" Just curious. In my case, no Republican candidate makes me feel that way and of course no democratic candidate. So I wanted to see if you were as fatalistic about the future as I am. I mean Obama ran on change and youth the first time and people were stoked!!! What about now? For you is it just, yeah we'll win cause Democrats always win, but whatever. I have no faith my candidate will make much of a difference.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 03:58 AM) Maybe GMs are smarter than we think. I see nothing in Shark's stats that even point to ace. The Cubs and A's didn't think so and Sox fans bought into the hype. Sure they probably could have gotten a career AAA player that makes Beckham look like a super star. We'll see. I still predict 18 to 20 mill a year for four years for Shark. Some team will pay it foolishly. And it'll be seen as a good acquisition in the winter when all deals are considered blockbuster and great (LaRoche signing was praised??? Ugh). In reality, he's worth a Guthrie-like deal; 2 years 9 mill a year type deal.
  5. Serious question: Will next year's Sox offense be one of the worst in team history? Maybe modern AL history? With Garcia looking like an official flop, Melky and LaRoche a year older and not producing many ribbies and the black holes at 3B, 2B, C and arguably SS, it could really be abysmal.
  6. Sox are about to be 10 under .500. Just yesterday they were on that hot streak and were just a game under. It's taken consistently bad baseball to get to a season low of 10 under.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) 1st??? Holy s***! And that is despite early Noesi, the Danks highs n lows, & Shark being pure toilet? Amazing if that's true. If the Sox are first in something and this bad ... you won't see the front office dealing its only strength IMO. I think we coulda dumped Shark when we had a chance and picked up something in return. Now it's too late for that.
  8. QUOTE (jblastick @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 02:48 PM) and McDonough has proven that he can make teams relevant. I hate to be sooo negative but the Sox were relevant in 05. Somehow they didn't learn from the 85 Bears and almost immediately were on a downward path to irrelevance. The Bears at least made it back to the Super Bowl I think once since then. The Sox actually have drawn pretty well since 05 all things considered. I don't think the team has been losing money and the Cell has never been a ghost town. I would expect next season with the Cubs very good and the Sox one of the 2-3 worst teams in the AL, the crowds might finally dip substantially and 15,000 a night will be common all summer. There's just no reason to go anymore for fans. With the team unable to make any noise in the Central and offensively anemic, there's right now no hope. I can't imagine selling season tickets for this team, pointing to all those exciting games against KC, Cleveland, Minnesota and Detroit. BORING losses. I don't know what they should do. I just have a sneaky feeling if they fire Robin they are going to make a gawdawful hire like Buddy Bell. There's no hope right now.
  9. Thank you Bill Maher for being the only media member keeping this alive. http://www.salon.com/2015/09/26/bill_maher...nvent_anything/
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 04:25 AM) The delegates are generally people elected by the voters in the various primaries and caucuses to represent each state, however not all of them are 100% guaranteed to a specific candidate based on the votes. They're chosen as supporters but do have some rights to support other candidates. There are also party elders who are "super delegates" and have the right to support whoever they want to and they are equal to the delegates selected by the candidates in the elections. To become a nominee you need a majority of the full set of delegates. Interesting. Thanks. I can't see Trump emerging in one of these scenarios.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 03:19 AM) PEDs rescued baseball after the 94 strike. Hard to deny that Sadly baseball was rescued by performance enhancing drugs. All those players should have their records STRIPPED. That great home run chase between Sosa and McGwire? Please.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 26, 2015 -> 08:17 PM) The Republicans have a quandary. Is Bush still viable or has he been compromised as a candidate by his early showing? Realistically, the money has to flow towards him or some combination of Rubio, Kasich or possibly Christie, whose "hug" with Obama will always be used against him by the right wing. I suppose a Rubio/Fiorina or Kasich/Fiorina combo would be another back-up plan...but that's only if she can continue to hold her own and maintain mid teens support. Bush is still in it for now, but the clock is ticking on him...the recent comment anout Obama giving out freebies was either uncharacteristically stupid or calculated political theatre to appeal to the base. This might sound dumb ... but I forget how the candidate emerges at the convention. Is it merely a vote of all the delegates? If so why do the delegates have so much power to pick a candidate?? Who the frick are they? I could see Bush winning in such a scenario. "The great state of Texas, home of the best beefy steaks in the USA, nominates Jeb Bush!!!" then everybody follows suit.
  13. I feel like I'm talking to myself but high school sports are big in Kansas where I've lived a while so I've tended to follow Brother Rice in football and basketball and have an interest. I still want to come back and go to a game on the south side sometime. I see Bro Rice outscored St. Laurence in another no huddle offense fest. I think it was 51-35. I could have sworn Rice's good back got hurt on the last series of the game, but the announcers didn't say who it was that went down on highschoolcube.com. Rice is 4-1 but I'm assuming Rice isn't a contender for anything significant courtesy of the 28-0 Loyola thrashing. I think Rice plays Mt. Carmel this week so another tough game. I remember back in the day St. Laurence was pretty good in football, but they kind of reek now. I also saw Marist lost to Benet Academy. Does Marist suck this season? Rebuilding or ? Benet is 4-1 but again I don't think that team is headed for anything significant. GO SOX!
  14. Geezus...what a horrible position to take. I do hate the fact ballplayers can't hit for power anymore in most cases, but I'd rather see them flop than get 20 more feet on their fly balls because of pills/gels/liquids.
  15. QUOTE (Saufley @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 02:01 AM) Only reason I posted is because I just got home and wanted to find out the score. So, another pitiful loss. Time for changes to be made. I guess why should I care anymore?? Yeah, as much as I love baseball I lost interest in September for sure. Once you KNOW your team is out of it it does change things, for me at least. I need meaningful baseball.
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 02:30 AM) we lost We lost and we stink. One great road trip all year and it came at the very worst time. Woulda been cool to see who the front office coulda got in a firesale.
  17. Three hits tonight?! Again ... point to this game and a dozen or more games like it if you are ever feeling like we're CLOSE to contending. Sox gots no bats. Get to work on a new master plan, Mr. Hahn.
  18. And Bob Dole was too mean to be president? How's she pulling it off? http://thefederalist.com/2015/06/01/watch-...ry-for-a-favor/
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 26, 2015 -> 02:54 AM) Why? Lots of blown saves. Terrible offense. Terrible defense. Terrible baserunning. Too many mental mistakes. Inconsistent execution. Lack of clear leadership and vision organizationally. Good points Caulfield. Also I forgot. Whenever the Sox get to where they are playing meaningful games, oh boy, they do not show up.
  20. I see Trump got booed for saying Cruz looked like a clown. He also went after one candidate for sweating way too much. Tick tick tick ... his 20 minutes of fame hourglass has begun its downward cycle for sure. Trump's strategy for a brilliant businessman at this point is puzzling. He has to know he was riding high early cause he was the fresh new voice, barking out great one-liners, taking no s*** from anybody. But like any 'good' thing, his mean, cruel schtick starts to wear. If Donnie was smart, he'd have rode that popularity and backed off for a while. You got to keep 'em wanting for more and Trump is starting to wear on the people. Dumb strategy. Let Florina and the others flap their gums for a couple months and go to New Hampshire and Iowa and shake some hands a couple days a week MAXIMUM. Do any of you politicos agree with me on this? Whether you like DT or not, isn't his strategy of all Trump all the time on TV kinda lunatic-ish if u wanna win a nomination/election? He did a fine job hopping to the head of the pack, but unless he backs off BIG TIME the regression in Greg's opinion is forthcoming!!!
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 09:43 PM) I just can't get over your bizarre takes lately. Obama's Presidency? This is Congress - which is even more dysfunctional than the White House. Nothing is even reaching the President's desk. True dat about Congress. I guess I'm despondent about the whole situation with our government. Nothing hardly ever gets done. Obama seems to thrown up his hands about his relationship with the Repubs even before the last election. With Hillary on the horizon I guess I'm depressed at the future of our government.
  22. I think we need to sign this guy pronto. Sox need players.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 11:57 PM) Makes perfect sense, especially if you think Eaton has peaked, which I do. I don't like him long term for this team unless we decide to sign a bunch of boppers. He's still young. Why has he peaked?
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 26, 2015 -> 03:22 AM) Sox 15-8 in Rodon starts. If you were given this figure in March, is there any doubt you would think the Sox were going to make the playoffs? Probably. It remains odd that the Sox have pretty darn good starting rotation and yet suck as a team.
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) Do you seriously not understand the difference between "questioning" (which no one is criticizing), and simply saying "the hoax" the way you have as if it were fact? When there is still no actual evidence of such a thing? Saying it over and over doesn't make it more true. Sorry. I should have used another word. Like alleged.
