QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) Avi strikes out again on a high fastball. What else is new? Whoever Tweeted that to Avi ... that's pretty funny cause you know he thought of that offensive tweet when he got owned on that last high fastball.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 08:16 PM) Of course it wasn't a coincidence. The candidate would absolutely want that, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with NBC playing for ratings either. The premier episode of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert got by far the best ratings of the show's first week because it was the first show and it featured Jeb Bush. How unfair was that? CBS totally helped Jeb get a bigger audience than any other candidate. Could they be more in the Republican's pockets? It's sickening how all the media is so totally in the Republicans pockets. Either that, or Jeb's campaign thought that was a good venue to go on because it would get a big audience and that's the kind of thing both campaigns and TV organizations want. Steven Colbert's show? Yawn. We're talking the Tonight Show. Americana. Not some awful wannabee TV host. Stephen Colbert? He lost me the minute it was exposed he's purposely mispronouncing his last name to seem elitist. Jeb is gonna be the candidate though, you are rite about that.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) Why would being on Jimmy Fallon a bunch of times get Donald Trump the nomination? Exposure.
-
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 08:02 PM) Trump did a skit with Fallon as well like less than a week ago. Trump is a sideshow clown. He can't beat Hillary. Celebrities will love it if he's the candidate vs. Hillary. Fallon will probably put Trump on a zillion times to make sure he gets the nomination. The timing of Hillary's appearance could not have been a coincidence.
-
Congrats to the Democrats. With a lot of help from Hollywood (Jimmy Fallon), Hillary got the most exposure of anybody on Wednesday night. If I were Bernie I'd be pissed! He should be the nominee. Why didn't Jimmy put both in his skit? Hollywood doesn't even try to hide its bias. Hillary on Fallon the night of the Republican debates?? Priceless. Hillary couldn't have written this up ANY better. Appearances like that are better than 5 debates or countless commercials. Save your money, Hillary. Just keep booking these TV shows.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) Politics has moved from speeches, to clips, to blurbs, to tweets, and now to meme's. At some point we started decided candidates by who had the best quotes instead of things like policy and the like. Trump is a quote machine, for those who like to decide by simple things, he is ideal. People get what they deserve. How do you explain Hillary then? She's gonna win in a landslide and is the dullest of the dull. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 05:10 PM) By the way, of all the candidates, I feel bad for Bush. He has to deal with trump and it just isn't a pretty situation for him when they go back and forth. Bush makes a good statement, Trump just blutters and jumps over...Bush tries to be the gentlemen but looks bad either way and to a reasonable person, you realize Trump is the ass, but somehow I just imagine everyone will go, yeah Donald...stick it to Bush for making a true statement about how you tried to BUY / bribe your way into Casino gambling. Sucks cause the debate should be more about the policies and it just doesn't happen with Trump in their. That said, as the night went on and questions got more pointed, you could see Trump take a back seat. But seriously...do people think for a second about his sound bites...on day 1 as president I am going to evict 11M people. How the f*** are you going to do that? Are we going to have whack an illegal day and just take a national holiday with everyone beating anyone they thinks is an illegal till they all flee the country? Lets apply some realism to the scenario, which I will give Kasich and Bush credit for (more then anyone else), who understand, you can't just do the things that some of these people are saying..it is f***ing impossible (let alone in most cases stupid). Do people not have BS meters or do they just ignore reality. By the way, I also think what Bush says about 4% growth is absurd, but s***, at least what he's talking about is to try and create positive energy and vibe and something that is ultimately good for our country (no one could argue that if we had 4% growth that was sustained over a few year run that it would be a great thing). Maybe I'm just an optimist but I like the people who talk about making this country great and being great. I don't want to hear what a s***hole this place is and blah blah blah and how we suck at everything (see the Donald). And his solution is, he's smarter and his friends are smarter and he's a billionaire, so yeah, I'll make it great again. I'll build walls and magically evict all illegal's and I'll solve the foreign issues by getting along with these people better (HOW Mr Trump...How?). I don't think having a scotch and cigar with Russia's president is going to solve much of anything. Great great post. But I disagreed with a lot of your other posts. This one was great. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 05:21 PM) And Greg...how do you like Donald just lying to the entire audience (and not some little white lie or minor mistake, but a big f*** you kind of lie). Guy is a f***wad. He could care less about anyone but himself. Trump is by definition a megalomaniac. But in honor of fair and balance, I will give Trump credit for saying he would waive the right to have social security and I do agree with him that the breaks around hedge funds are a joke (Bush and a few others also agree). What about Carlie? Apparently she lied about the videos of PP. The thought of what she stated sickened me. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) I just can't believe how little talk there is about how Fiorina out and out lied about what is in those videos. I saw George Stephanopoulos interview her this morning and he told her that those images are not in any of those videos. She just said anyone who claims that hasn't seen the videos and that George needed to go check his facts. But there are plenty of reliable people who have sat through all of those "unedited" videos and have seen no graphic full-formed fetuses wiggling around, etc. I want the truth. Why is there never any outrage about stuff like this. Some poor fetus kept alive for its brain? This is one of the most sickening images of the year. Truthfully, we can be such disgusting people sometimes. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 07:36 PM) Is there anything Fiorina did well as CEO of HP which would merit her consideration? Still believe that the only candidates capable of performing the job itself are Kasich, Rubio (but domestic policies...separating with the Tea Party won't happen so easily) and MAYBE Bush are the only ones from that long list. Possibly Christie as well. Bush obviously is gonna be the Republican candidate. Carlie was a disaster with HP. Can't win because of that. Donald's political career will flame out. I still say his 20 minutes of fame (politics wise) is going to definitely run out. He'll need a way to save face and ultimately will drop out. BTW I couldn't watch the Hlllary skit on Jimmy Fallon. What a chickenbleep move by Fallon. So the republicans have this serious debate and Hillary gets the most out of the night with a dumb skit on the Tonight Show. Sad, sad world. Hillary is the choice of Hollywood and the media thus she WINS and WINS big. Sad. My only hope is Bill is a co-president.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) Everyone has given you a direct answer. He quit on the white sox. You are right, this is big boy sports. When your team is having a bad season and you are a week away from leaving them after some tremendously bad PR from your loose lipped sons, you pull up your big boy pants and suck it up for another week. Ozzie could kill Jimmy Carter and you would find an excuse for him. As I recall, Management was all for Ozzie negotiating something with Florida in order to get rid of him. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) Going to a 49ers game in the opposing team's jersey is risky. There is nothing risky attending a White Sox game. It's a game. Yes. I meant risking your hard earned money. Good chance of a zombie like performance if you go see a Sox game. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) I agree. There is no doubt there was tampering. If KW didn't want Ozzie gone (supposedly he did fire him earlier but JR blocked it) there would have been charges, and I don't see how the Marlins don't get penalized. Ozzie was under contract to the White Sox for another season. Thing is, KW did want Ozzie gone and Florida took care of the problem.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 12:08 PM) He literally just blocked me on Twitter last night because I told him that he needs to learn how to hit a high fastball. Haha. He should block you. He doesn't know you. Anything the least bit negative I'd block people too if I were famous.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 06:23 AM) Literally the only man on the entire planet, including Dick Allen, I'd rather not see manage the club other than RV is Ozzie. Ozzie, I loved you bro, my dad really f***ing loved you -- but f*** you for quitting on the team. Never again dude. Please tell me in a DIRECT answer. Don't be a politician. What the hell did Ozzie quit?? It was the last week of September and his team sucked and had long ago quit on him. Robin's quit on him this year as well. Please folks answer my question. This is big boy sports. What the hell did Ozzie quit on? A week of more bad baseball? Robin quits every time he puts a position player in to pitch by this type reasoning.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) I have gone to about 40 games this year. There have been some clunkers, but for the most part, I have had a good time. Cool. That is encouraging to hear. I envy you. I need to get a better job and move back to Chicago. I'd like to have a summer when I could get season tix and go to 50 games. It'd be neat.

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 09:13 PM) He was an excellent pitcher last year. What he's done this year is not indicative of what kind of pitcher he was before. See, this is what fans of opposing teams and GMs will say in the winter when they award him an insane contract. Can you imagine if you had as bad a year at work as he did this year? You'd be fired, not given an insanely lucrative contract. Here's your preseason article on Shark next February... "The (Red Sox/Dodgers/Giants/Padres, whomever) are counting on a bounceback season from Jeff Samardja, who had an uncharacteristically poor season in 2015 with the White Sox. He basically was a bad fit with a White Sox team that was poor on defense and wretched offensively. There was very little to play for during his historically bad second half, one in which he clearly was not even using all his pitches, just stretching out the arm in advance of free agency. The change of scenery figures to help Samardja, who almost certainly will return to ace or No. 2 status in the rotation." -
QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 05:19 AM) I'm not a real big savy baseball guy,but I had a thought about him. He seems to really struggle in the outfield with taking proper angles, just not natural for him. But he is a very good athlete and has some good twitch to him. He also possesses a strong arm. What are the chances he could switch to 3b? At 24 years old he would seem young enough to be able to handle it. Athletically I think he could learn and be fine also. Body composition wise he isn't any bigger than the panda who plays 3B. And he isn't much bigger than arod either. I don't see his size as such a detriment. Now I'm not saying this should be done or can be done, but rather just thinking out loud. I can't imagine him being even an average third baseman. Is he that bad in right? I remember a lot of people thought Jermaine Dye was a disaster out there. I am not a big advanced stats guy but to the eye test, he's better in right than Viciedo was in left. If he could be more consistent a hitter we wouldn't be lamenting his defense so much, would we? Just asking. Offensively he's hitting .269 with 12 homers and 56 rbi's. 129 strikeouts in 498 at bats for a guy with just 12 home runs. I'd say he has had a very poor season. He needs to hit 25 home runs next year and drive in 80 to 100 RBIs or he's just another Viciedo IMO. He also has 7 SBs and seven caught stealing which really blows. I'd give him a D grade for this season. He has pretty much sucked. I don't despise him as a player yet, though. One more season like this and I'd say dump him for scraps though.

I'll watch the highlights. Heard some facebook grumblings that CNN was not asking about issues, trying instead to get the candidates to blast each other. These debates have turned into opportunities for the journos to "build their brand." Meghan whatever her last name is built her brand with her fight with Trump. Any media 'stars' tonight? Any media moment like Meghan?

9/16 Athletics at White Sox

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 01:31 AM) White sox are 1-8 in sharks starts since July 30th. If they had gone 5-4 they'd be 3 games back of the wild card with a win tonight. That's the margin of error in today's baseball. If shark had actually Pitched like a true number 2 or 3 like they thought they were getting the white sox might actually be leading the wild card 2nd spot I don't really buy the 'if's' with this team. I truly think this team blows and if Shark did well somebody else would have just screwed up. Interesting stat though. Shark has definitely been worthless. -

Abreu has 29 homers; getting up there. -
Healthcare is pretty ridiculous. I know somebody's work gives a 50 dollar per month discount if they get bloodwork done at workplace through a testing company and their levels are all in an acceptable range. That seems a little big brother to me. Most people get a physical once a year and have their levels checked that way. Seems a little HR happy intrusive, uncalled for type thing to me.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) Hungary sealed off the last border crossing yesterday. 22 dead after boat full of refugees sinks heading from Turkey to Greece. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-09-15/22-d...reports/6778526 That's pretty tragic. This is pretty heartwrenching all around.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) Because LaRoche will be gone by then. Thank goodness. What's he make in his swan song year? 15?

QUOTE (Coach @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) It takes me about 2 hours to get to a Sox game, each way. Why would I want to spend all that time and money going to watch lousy baseball when I can go to the local park and watch kids play and having fun. I have no desire to go. It's pretty risky to go to a Sox game nowadays. For instance two of the three games where I had free tickets but turned 'em down to Sox vs. KC in KC the Sox were the normal, boring, horrific, embarrasing White Sox. However, the third time woulda been the charm. That was the Friday game in which the Sox won something like 10-1 or 12-1. But if you have to pay, you just can't go to a White Sox game. They are not worth the hard-earned money to risk on a shutout or error fest or Shark implosion. Now if you love the ballpark food and ballpark atmosphere and just have to see a big league game, that's a different story. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 02:54 PM) Good grief talk about living in the past. Ozzie is gone, accept it and move on. It's just a message board. Nobody's 'living' in the past or even present on the message board, just spending leisure time and commenting. It's not that big a deal.

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) Having leury pitch is one thing... What if alexei seriously hurt his arm yesterday? Reminds me of Toby hall playing 1b in a spring training game. His pitch count was getting up there for one inning. I was getting a little concerned for Lexi. He was fine, though.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 08:08 PM) They could backload some deals though. In 2017, they have roughly $70.5 million committed to Abreu, Sale, Q, Melky, Robertson, Duke, and Eaton. That figure doesn't include any arb raises for anyone else either. 2017 $$ Cabrera $17 million Abreu $13 million Robertson $12 million Sale $12 million Quintana $7 million Duke $5.5 million Eaton $4 million. Rodon will still be cheap at that point along with Fulmer and Johnson if they go that route. They should have some wiggle room if you look past 2016. I don't know if I should laugh or cry at Melky's salary for 17. You didn't even put LaRoche's salary in here.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) I would ask why??? There were "rumors that Shark and Cooper do not get a long. If true, it might very well explain how Shark went from decent to horrible. If that is the reason, why would you bring him back since that would be a cancer in the clubhouse, especially w young pitchers. You hit the nail on the head! That's one of Shark's excuses that will still land him 18-25 mill a year for 5 years from somebody. His agent will say he and the pitching coach hated each other, also that he's a better NL pitcher. Also he only used a couple pitches to stretch his arm out once the season was over. He had a couple great starts that he can tell teams to look at on film. As far as cancer in clubhouse, sorry to say the Sox are past that point of worrying about that. After a couple years of being an irrelevant, lousy team, our clubhouse is that of a loser. That really can't be changed until the team somehow starts winning and winning big again. Sox truly are a mess right now. Irrelevant losing franchise. Polar opposite of 2005. Top to bottom franchise in 10 years.

QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 06:15 AM) Have you ever bothered looking something up yourself? Or do you just ask your wife or kids to get answers for you? Why are u so mean? Are u anti-Greg for some reason?

To any Soxtalker who has time to answer this question ... Let's say I quit my job tomorrow and decided to be a consultant and work for myself and needed coverage. How do I get Obamacare or would Blue Cross individual coverage be cheaper? Anyhow, what is the protocol to get Obamacare? How would I do it? What are the procedures, the step by step instructions to take? Thank u!

We should do a mini poll. Who would you rather have manage the Sox next year if these were the only choices: Robin or Ozzie or Bevington? I'd take ... OZZIE!
