  1. I hope they don't trade the only top prospects they have for rental hitters. This season has been so weird, it might be wise to just let it play out for better or worse. It's like we already have a new hitter in Melky who has awakened and maybe LaStiff will wake up as well. Also Lexi, 3B and 2B have been reborn. I wouldn't mind acquiring a 3B bat, trading Lexi and letting Saladino play ss the rest of the year though. If there are any 3B standouts out there.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) I knew who started this thread before even seeing who it was. Is that a compliment? Yes, I'm horrified by what has happened to our country with all these incidents/murders. People are getting killed by cops for no reason. Train these cops to diffuse situations w/out ending lives, please. Everybody else has to use proper decorum in their careers; why not cops?
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) This is so embarrassing that he is leading in two primaries. I just don't understand these people whose sole standard for the most important person in the world is they just attack and make jokes of liberals and media. Give me the person that just rates the president by their looks anyday. He'll fade. People just like the fact he's not afraid to bust the P.C. police. It grows old when a public figure messes up (hulk hogan, lion killing dentist), meekly apologizes and fades away forevermore. It's refreshing when a Trump tells people to f*** off and get a life. He'll fade, though. As far as looks, I believe they continue to be a huge reason a candidate wins. Obama, Bill Clinton, Carter, even the younger Bush were/are considered good looking men and they looked much better on TV than their opponents. You can never discount looks in a presidential race and how they appear on TV.
  4. Mia Farrow printed the dentist's address on Twitter. If somebody kills the dentist, won't Farrow feel a bit responsible? This is a bad situation but shouldn't the legal system take care of it? Or peaceful protests outside his office if those are legal, but do not hunt the dentist down as a mob and kill him for gosh sakes.
  5. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 07:41 PM) No. We've seen the pattern when they get close to or slightly above .500 they tank. August is usually mental midget month. This is when they get owned by teams they should beat. I want to be so wrong on this. Yep. I want to be wrong, too. But the pattern makes me wary. I know if they immediately fall eight below .500 again after this good stretch, I'm going to go insane.
  6. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:55 PM) Sox send Avi, Courtney Hawkins and Montas to Oak for Reddick. No more trades with Oakland, please, unless it's Butler or Semien for LaRoche.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) That's $22.85 million, on average, per season...for his age 32, 33, 34 and 35 seasons. Not worth it. He'll either get hurt like they all do, or he'll lose it. They'll be trying to dump the salary next season probably.
  8. How can TV afford to pay these fees? Seems like no matter how bad the economy, TV rights deals as well as sports players salaries continue to skyrocket. What would happen if advertisers gave up on TV as they have on magazines, newspapers, etc.?
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 07:10 AM) Almost forgot. What is Dozier doing bunting in a tie game in the 5th, when you have a guy at second and nobody out? Not only is Dozier our best hitter, but you needed about 5 more runs with our bullpen. It would be nice though if Dozier could have had a professional at bat and moved the runner over. Thanks for the bullpen help Ryan, we could have got Clippard for jack squat... There have been so many base running errors by this team it has reached the level of being an embarassment for the coaches. A little league team can show more discipline on the base paths. The pitchers have lost their ability to hit their spots as well. And with bases loaded down 8-3 in the 7th, why wouldn't you have Hunter with 350-some career homers pinch-hitting for singles/doubles hitter Nunez? Did I just read that correctly? "What's with Sano? So far to me he hasn't shown much. When will he start hitting home runs?" Are you truly serious? You mean beyond the .300 average, .429 Obp, .522 SLG and .951 OPS. Might want to find a new sport if these are poor numbers. We could just give up on him and sign Adam Dunn, right? 62 games to go with a disproportionate 13 versus the Tribe. If they can go 8-5 against the lowly Tribe and a modest 25-24 against everyone else they would finish 85-77 which may be good enough for the wildcard, and, at the very least, keep them in the race until the very end. startribune.com/sports game comments 13 vs. Cleveland is an insane amount. I bet Francona's boys can go 6-7 or 7-6.
  10. QUOTE (BigFinn @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:17 AM) Mea culpa. I obviously know absolutely nothing about baseball. After losing 3 out of 4 to the Royals, I thought the Sox should be sellers. I wanted to wave the white flag from the highest yardarm. They were a listless team that couldn't play offense and couldn't play defense. I thought, I, I, . . . well what do I know. OK. I'll bite. Go Sox. Go, go Sox. Let's Go Sox. I am now officially emotionally invested. Dadgummit. Now I have to sit down, strap it on, and hunker down. This team is better than the roller coasters at Great America. Good post, Big Finn. I thought I knew baseball, too. The Sox won a few games, sure, but always played horrific enough during little losing streaks to fall to 7-8 below .500. I figured once 7-8 under .500 a big-time losing streak on a road trip (like this one) would put them 13-15 under .500 and that finally would be that. Now I figure the law of averages suggests we can't immediately follow a good streak by losing a lot and falling 7-8 games back AGAIN. As of today I also believe. If the Sox keep catching the ball and Melky keeps hitting like this, I'm confident the pitching will be there like it normally is. They might have fooled us again, but let's hope not. I'd love to play the one game wild card and see what happens. If we win that and the pitching rotation was set right, we might make the Royals sweat a bit.
  11. http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/30/us/ohio-sam-...sing/index.html White cop shoots African American man as he tries to undo his seat belt. Appalling. Sadness for the man who was shot and killed and his family members who are devastated. Cops continuing to show no restraint, make fools of themselves and cause tense situations regarding race relations. Shooting to kill in these non dangerous situations is so unnecessary. This cop who probably has no record now goes to jail the rest of his life probably.
  12. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:46 AM) Don't think anybody could have predicted or expected this. Mark I know the season is a marathon, but I'd never have expected it. One under .500 with a healthy eight weeks to go with four of the hottest starters in baseball: Sale, Shark, Q and Rodon.
  13. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:27 AM) Melky's last 33 games: .385 5 HRs 25 RBI 9 BB 21 Runs 15 doubles and 2 triples and a partridge in a pear tree. Melky's bat might be the one thing that woke up our squad. Abreu has seemed to have shaken his funk. Lot of guys are stroking hits now. Melky would be the unofficial MVP offensively. I'd say the turnaround of late is the Melky-led offense and the Saladino/Lexi/Sanchez led defense to go with the fierce foursome mound corps. Nice pick at first today by Abreu as well. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:37 AM) He's going to add AJP I love AJP but don't want him back. I would assume he's not any better at throwing guys out and I would suspect he pops up a lot like he used to. He's too old. If we're gonna bring back world champs, bring back Buehrle even though we don't really need him right now.
  14. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:49 AM) Man the Sox are on fire. They have to be the best baseball team of the past week. It should be an interesting deadline but I would not want to be in a GM shoes. Personally I'd white flag the s*** out of this. Sox are one under .500 with eight weeks of ball left. They played so badly for such an extended period of time, there's no law that says they can't ride this great pitching staff to eight weeks of excellence. I can see why they'd stand pat or try to add just one bat.
  15. Do you guys agree with me that the biggest game of the year will be the game AFTER we finally lose? To put to rest any thoughts of an immediate 5 to 7 game losing streak? Or should I forget that thought and throw it out with some of the other incorrect thoughts I've had this bizarre season?
  16. Good to get even with Boston in Fenway. I seem to recall us getting swept there in a 4 game series a year or two ago or maybe in the Ozzie era, I forget. This winning is amazing. After all the s*** KW and Hahn have taken from fans like me, the Trib should do a story quoting Robin and front office types about how in the hell they've become (almost) a .500 team and why they actually believed the team would turn it around and play this kind of baseball.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:04 AM) Who will probably be gone once Nate Jones is back any day now. Nate and his funky delivery accounts for a lot of walks, as well. At least Webb battled back. Was he ever a starter in his career? He was lights out there after he got warmed up, after walking two guys. Shouldn't Webb be a starter in the minors with his ultimate goal starting in the bigs?
  18. Glad Webb is battling back a bit after the 2 walks. Walk 4-5 in a row and the game's in doubt.
  19. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:47 AM) I admit after supporting him for the longest time I caved in and wanted him fired about a month ago or so. Not so much because I thought he was an awful manager but I just felt enough was enough and something had to be done. Managers are often the scapegoat when a team is consistently bad whether that's fair or not. I'm happier than heck they've righted the ship. I wanted him axed, as well. I wanted him gone. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:47 AM) Saladino has a good approach and everything, but his hitting has fallen off a bit. I'm not worried yet. Still solid on defense and getting at least one hit a game. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:58 AM) Send Webb down. He sucks. Got to throw strikes with a seven run lead.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:42 AM) Sanchez just had a sensational AB against a great pitcher I need a do-over as a fan on this season. I was wrong about him, too. I don't ever want to see Micah again. This Sanchez guy apparently is the real deal.
  21. Not trying to start anything up here, but remember when everybody except El Rockin and Dick Allen wanted Robin fired? If the team is able to keep this up, he'll be in Chicago for the next 20 years. BTW, the biggest game of the year is going to be the game after we finally lose. Remember this win streak followed a 4-game losing streak. Fair or not, the team has to prove it's not gonna turn around and lose 5 in a row.
  22. This winning is fun. I don't know why the team waited so long to quit being dysfunctional, but the good news is if this is the real White Sox team, there's plenty of time to grab a wild card.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 1m1 minute ago Jung-ho kang pirates deal is official. 4 years plus team option. Believed worth $11M plus. He looks good. We blew it if we had a chance to get him. Looks like a keeper.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:55 AM) I think if you trade Jeff at this point you risk messing with their mojo... Once the Sox lose a game ... if they end up losing 7 of 8 again or something like that, we'll all be majorly pissed I'm sure. But I don't see what KW/Hahn can do. The team, which has an amazing rotation, has played itself to where it's right in the wildcard chase. How can you break it up now? You'd have to be buyers right now. The team could use a bat. What about trading LaRoche for Billy Butler and see if Butler can get hot?? The A's might help us out to get rid of Butler. He can't be any worse than LaRoche and might start stroking doubles. Or go ahead and make that deal with the Dodgers to get some hitting. Now that the Royals have traded all their pitching, maybe we could ship them a pitching prospect or two for Colon. They have no use for Colon at all now.
