QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:33 AM) They might not announce it, but it wouldn't be a shock to see Zobrist take over 2B after Alex Gordon comes back. It will be a bit controversial to bench Omar Infante, but Yost is going to play the player who gives him the best chance to win. The other thing to consider is it's not like Alex Rios at this stage in his career in lighting the world on fire. Rios and Infante are the ones who will lose the most playing time, IMO. I just read the AP story tonight said Gordon is expected back in late September. I thought Moore said late August/early September. If Gordon comes back late September, that will be dicey. You have to give him his job back but if he hits .120 in the postseason and KC doesn't reach the Series, Moore and Ned will be blasted for playing Gordon. Allegedly it took Rios a month to get his timing back.

QUOTE (kwill @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:40 AM) I know everybody is talking about adding another bat but one quick fix would be bring up Erik Johnson up and putting Danks in the pen. Danks will probably not average a 4.50 ERA the rest of the way. Lets see if Johnson can give us something better out of the 5th slot. If you are going to put Danks in the pen, just send him down instead to continue to work on starting as he recovers fully from that surgery. Danks in the bullpen to me is a dumb idea and the bullpen doesn't need him. It has two lefties. DFA him and eat the money or send him down in your scenario of Erik taking the No. 5 spot. I assume nobody will take him in a minor trade cause of $$$ and Sox won't send money with him.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 05:09 PM) Gregg, there are many reports of friendly fire killing troops in recent history (including Pat Tillman). Our military engages in tremendous amounts of training in high pressure and high stress situations, yet they are not infallible in difficult situations. This narrative that the "good guy" with the gun has the training and the ability to properly assess and remove the threat is not supported by any evidence. The point here - it's a very dangerous assumption to say that firearm owner X is "not going to shoot unless he has a good shot." Note, I'm not anti-firearms. I don't begrudge people using firearms for home protection (though I question the utility of this one, I understand why people feel that way), hunting, protection of livestock/crops, and sport. But when people carry a deadly tool like that out into public, that's when I start to question the societal value... I personally would never carry a loaded gun, but if society keeps going downhill ... and these incidents become commonplace, I might reconsider. Like Tex said, he wants to have the right as a law abiding citizen to blow away the Colorado movie theatre killers of the world. I understand what you are saying. I'd also hate to get shot by some guy who was trying to shoot bad-guy Holmes.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:25 AM) They're not trying to simply win the division. This was a World Series move. Would they really bench Infante for Zobrist once Gordon comes back? That ironclad defense/team chemistry might take a little bit of a hit. He's gonna play leftfield now with Cain in center and Rios in right.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:23 AM) Kang with a cheapie Man, wasn't that an amazing bomb? Where'd they get this Kang guy. Wish the Sox had him.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 11:53 PM) the same kind of formula does gets old. too bad. he is not as bad as his personality suggest. I think he reached the low point with Grown Ups One. That movie was one of the worst comedies I've ever seen. I wouldn't watch Grown Ups Two if you gave me 100 bucks. I almost walked out of Grown Ups One when I realized there was no hope of me laughing even once. But I stayed until the end for some reason.

QUOTE (venom4789 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:45 AM) I am now drinking the kool aid and loving it. Dick Allen has to be laughing at us Robin haters. If Sox avoid the usual tank job once this winning streak ends, they may finally be in the one-game WC race for good.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:12 AM) We are right in the mix, but the only thing that will be holding us back is trotting Danks out there every 5 days, unless we face someone like Kelly. Sox have four amazing starters in Shark, Sale, Rodon and Q. I mean how many teams have 5 amazing starters? That foursome is World Series caliber. And Danks is a suitable No. 5. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:16 AM) Sox are 5-5 in his last 10 starts. 4.37 ERA, averaging 6 innings per start. That's good 5th starter stuff...and something a lot of teams would like to have...just not at 14 mil. Exactly. Unless Danks runs out of gas and his last start is what's to come, he's not a bad No. 5 starter. As I've said 1,000 times don't hate the man for his contract. It's management's fault, not Johnny Danks! Join me on the Danks/Flowers bandwagon. You'll be glad you did.

After reading about KC's trade ... wouldn't Zobrist have been a good guy for the Sox to acquire? He draws walks and could have played 2B and DH'ed if LaRoche continues to stink. Sox may not have been able to beat KC's offer I guess.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:02 AM) I think the Sox are really chasing TOR and BALT. The Twins are going to fade. Their youngsters won't handle it. I wouldn't be surprised if HOU fades as well. On ESPN Stark says teams say the White Sox have been tellimg teams they won't trade Shark if it makes them weaker this season. I agree about Minnie. They could have a final two months like the Sox first two months. They blow.
-
I think this last Royals trade was dumb. KC is so far ahead it is a lock to win the division which means it avoids the one-game wildcard bulls***. With that amazing defense, there's no way they can blow an 8-game lead even with Dyson and Orlando filling in for Gordon. Dyson and Orlando are useful players. They FULLY EXPECT Gordon to return well before the playoffs. So this most recent trade for Zobrist strips them of more pitchers who figured to be huge contributors in the future. There's no way they'll sign Zobrist or Cueto for next season so I think this last trade was dumb. Cueto is needed FOR the playoffs; Zobrist isn't. Seems like a dumb move by KC to strip itself of so many pitching prospects for the future. These two guys are rentals.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:13 AM) win in the Central and win the Central....better to have said, they're capable of beating the teams in the AL Central head to head(other than the Royals right now) This season is so bizarre I'm not ruling out finally holding their own in Central Division games the rest of the way (though the bastard Royals may spoil the party with a sweep in Kauffman next weekend). This team is so bizarre it's impossible to track it. I mean there's no way this team will follow this win streak with another bummer that puts it 8 under .500 again. Somebody please convince me of that!
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:22 AM) 48-50, 4 back in the WC. 3rd place in the Central. Melky hitting over .500 during the past week. Unbelievable. Keep it rolling, White Sox. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:23 AM) And this. @ScottMillerBbl 19s19 seconds ago White Sox now have won 6 straight and only 4 games out of 2nd wild card. Sox 48-50. After 98 last year, KC was 48-50. Then, World Series That is an amazing stat about the Royals being 48-50 last year. If Sox truly have found themselves ... wow. If Rodon, Sale, Q and Shark can keep pitching effectively and Danks do well in 50 percent of his starts. If Melky can keep carrying the offense ... Sox could stay in the WC race maybe. You'd think the law of averages would prevent the Sox from following this winning streak with a long losing streak again. THAT CANT KEEP HAPPENING, CAN IT??
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:19 AM) His "pride" comment was BS and disappoints me. Dude you couldn't hit water if you fell out of a boat. So, you're sat and you're pride is hurt? Get the f*** over yourself. This isn't little league. It wasn't a bad quote. It also said he agreed with the decision to sit. I hate LaRoche but I'm not going to make him out as some evil guy. If Melky can suck it up and get this hot, maybe there's hope for LaRoche if he wakes up now. It certainly helps when the team is flirting with .500 again. Team is red red hot. Ride this streak as long as they can and then after they lose, hope they can right the ship immediately and not lose 5 in a row (again).
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:06 AM) Yes this team has 5% chance at best at making the playoffs sub .500 on July 28th. What are the odds of the other contenders?? We're four games out of the WC with a s***ton of games left. I may not be a believer, but facts are facts. The Sox are in this and for better or worse should ride out the season and not sell anymore. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:07 AM) Can't you just enjoy a dominating winning streak. Yes. I'm prepared to eat a lot of words about what I deemed a hopeless, horses*** team (if we keep doing well). QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:08 AM) 48-50, 4 back in the WC Unfricking believable. Dick Allen is looking good now for his unwavering support of Robin. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:09 AM) Responses were to trading Jeff and playoff chances nothing about win streak. Nice to win but a month too late. WHy a month late? We might start sucking again, but the facts say the Sox are four games back in the WC. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:11 AM) LaRoche is probably coming in tomorrow. That's OK. Maybe this will wake him up. They're not going to release him. BTW Melky is so hot it's hard to believe. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:13 AM) That would be dumb as hell with the way this team is hitting. Don't fix what ain't broke. He has to play. He's being paid a ton and is on the team. They won't just release him.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:58 AM) The play Infante just made with Escobar was insane! Royals are peaking early. They gonna be under so much pressure in the playoffs. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:59 AM) 2 game sweep lets get to .500 before we start praising playoff chances. True, the Sox got to this point playing ugly, disfunctional baseball, but the thing is ... the bottom line is they are right there with the other WC contenders. It may be a mirage, but Sox can't break up the team now. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:01 AM) He's not getting traded. If we don't blow this lead in the ninth, I agree with you.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:50 AM) The ironic thing is if they trade Samardzija tomorrow afternoon, a lot of us will be disappointed now Yes, at this point you'd have to be disappointed. Because somehow the team has earned the right to play an entire season with this group. Yeah, it'll probably all fall apart again, but there's no reason to give up now. Trading Shark now would definitely be bad and I NEVER thought I'd say that.
-
It's all over. Shark is going nowhere. For better or worse, Sox are scalding hot and have to let this season play itself out. Shark cannot be traded now. GO SOX!
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 8m8 minutes ago Adam LaRoche didn't want the two days off but agrees he needed it. "I’m healing. My pride has been injured a little bit." #WhiteSox He's probably too stubborn to shave the beard to change his luck. Shave it.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 07:32 PM) The cow town won't attract free agents unless they overpay. It's all cyclical. George Brett still lives in this cowtown. KC actually is nice. It's way better than Oklahoma City and OKC has an NBA team. Royals mania is out of nowhere and sickening though. It used to be there'd be about 10,000 for a game on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Now they sell out every game. Frontrunning fans are into this team. I haven't gone to a Royals game when they haven't played the Sox in a long time. I hate them but it is a nice city.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) You said it best Baron, but I will try. Greg, baseball, for as much as you comment on it, is something you spend a fair amount of time watching, I'm going to assume. Then you know that games are frequently, commonly, decided by the smallest of factors - the 42 that Hawk talks about, knowing that you're going to win 60 and lose 60 of the rest. You seem to want to throw up your hands in hopelessness at the hands of the Mighty Royals or take comfort in "we suck" platitudes whenever incremental improvements are discussed. Literally no one here is confusing Soto with anyone good, let alone Bench. But most of Soto's suckage is on the defensive side, which makes him nice for the DH. It's a game of increments. Our offense is woeful, yes, and Soto vs. LaRoche will not make a huge positive difference, more than likely. But Soto is hitting better overall, and about 400 OPS points better against LHP over the past few years. This is a game of every little bit helps, and our not-so-daunting-despite-a-season-of-suckage-deficit tells me a few little bits could make a big difference. LaRoche isn't doing his future value any favors having his woeful performance vs. LHP drag down his numbers, so I seriously doubt that the Sox feel compelled to play him everyday - more likely, some veteran/respect stupidity rearing its ugly head, imo. Just one more thing that needs a purgin' Makes sense again. I thought you all wanted Soto to take Flowers' at bats. I wouldn't be against him taking some of LaRoche's for sure. I despise LaRoche as a player. I still can't believe he hasn't shaved to try to see if that change would help switch his luck.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 05:23 AM) The Red Sox are the worst team in the AL. Their lefties are going to struggle to lift and pull a splitter from shark. Good. I want another W.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:04 PM) Maybe dead, but at least you have a fighting chance instead of hoping he doesn't see you in the dark or decides that you should live instead of die that day. Thing is, folks, we Americans have a right to do what Tex has suggested. I mean, he's not going to shoot in the theatre unless he has a good shot at the son of a b**** killer. The killer happens to be in the row right ahead of Tex, bam, Tex ends the problem and is a hero. I mean don't we Americans have the right to protect ourselves? If Tex starts shooting indescriminately and kills somebody, then Tex goes to jail for involuntary manslaughter as well.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 04:04 AM) He doesnt suck like John Danks I hope he dominates but if those lefties in their lineup lift and pull, Shark will be in trouble.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:13 AM) Passed Detroit and Texas in the WC chase That, folks, is very very difficult to believe. Nice, but difficult to fathom. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:32 AM) Not to be a downer in a White Sox Winner thread, but I really hope Danks never starts another game for the Chicago White Sox. Don't be a Danks-downer. Believe in Danks as I do and you will be rewarded tenfold! Danks! It ain't easy pitching in Fenway. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:40 AM) It was ridiculous for people to deem them as failures less than halfway into the first year of either deal. Yeah, but Melky and Eaton were so bad it was incredible. I mean people wanted Eaton sent down and I wanted Melky traded so badly. Hopefully he can keep rapping at least two hits per game. His hitting has been huge. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:57 AM) Those two kids in the infield have picked up the team. Of course a few others have helped, too. I agree. Not having to play Beckham and Conor, who has since been shipped away, and Boni, has been huge. Saladino is a breath of fresh air and 2B has been wonderful.
