  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 20, 2015 -> 04:08 AM) How many pop ups to first can a guy hit Alexi? Sit him Wednesday. The Sox don't have much punch on the bench. Beckham has been a pleasant surprise.
  2. I didnt see the errors Hawk is talking about "giving 'em two of the three runs." But I do know bad defense will prevent this team from beating the Royals head to head and probably keep the team under .500 overall. We shall see. The bats probably will heat up dramatically in the summer.
  3. Ah the game of baseball. Tonight the Sox just plain looked like a lousy team again. We all know the past few weeks the Sox overall have looked very good.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2015 -> 03:53 AM) He had a huge double vs Abad last Friday. He earned himself more chances vs LHP after that Fair enough. Sox really needed contact there. I'd have preferred Beckham trying to at least put ball in play.
  5. Avi got frozen there; that's why the toughest thing to do in sports is hit a baseball. You'd think he could poke that one to right but it's not that easy to do I guess.
  6. For Robin to take that next step (he's been doing great lately) he has to have the balls to a.) not let LaRoche bat in a situation like that starting NOW and b.) having the balls to take out Sale and Shark when they stubbornly want to stay in, ala Peavy/Verlander and guys like that. Fail tonight by Robin. LaRoche may have cost us any chance of a comeback win there. He just can't hit a lefty. Time to factor that into strategy!!
  7. Let's face facts. We know LaRoche won't get a hit here. So let's not second guess but first guess. Do you go with Mr. Soto? Alias Mr. DP? Or do you let LaRoche try to hit a fly ball to make it 3-2. I am assuming no way he gets a hit. Who else you want to pinch hit if anybody? Is Beckham playing tonight?
  8. Wish Abreu would have slammed that first offering. It was meat, but the walk is productive. Cmon LaRoche. Hit a lefty!
  9. Nice hit by Eaton. Melky baby, almost stroked one. On a hot night, HR??? f***.
  10. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 20, 2015 -> 03:36 AM) Putnam is not a fastball pitcher and Flowers called for a high one when he has been throwing splitters the whole time which nobody was touching. It was stupid. I guess, but I tend to blame the guy throwing the ball. I do know that Soto is lousy as well.
  11. QUOTE (Chris Sale @ May 20, 2015 -> 03:34 AM) You know, if Putnam didn't like it himself, he could have shook it off and demanded something else. My sentiments exactly.
  12. Flowers doesn't thrill me but why do people blame the catcher for a pitcher's incompetence? Putnam is no star.
  13. Damn, people are wearing hats and winter coats.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2015 -> 03:29 AM) Bad approach and Alexei had an awful AB with bases loaded Ugh. Bases loaded failure. I'm not a Putnam fan BTW.
  15. Just tuned in. Why are the Sox not scoring tonight?
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) Please tell me what these experts bring to the table and why I should believe a word they're saying. because this sounds like another heap of conspiratorial garbage. I'm not sure but I've read reports we are in deep trouble financailly and I've seen the social unrest.
  17. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 19, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) Did you really just refer to yourself in the third person? I don't know why you think Hilary is a shoe in. Wait for the candidates to emerge, see a few debates/caucuses and then see where the wind blows. 2016 election is a long way off right meow. The article Caulfield posted said she was a lock. All I've heard is she's a lock. She just has to show up, so to speak, to win. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) John McCain was 72 in the 2008 election, Hillary Clinton will turn 69 in October of 2016. Asking for detailed health records for a person that age I have no issue with. Saying we shouldn't vote for someone because they're too old? Says more about you than about the person you're opposing. You missed my point. YOUNG IDEAS are needed. Look at the technology. Look at the demands of the world. Several experts say we're going to have the worst depression in mankind and anarchy could (has it already?) hit the streets. I want somebody to tell me WHAT SHE BRINGS TO THE TABLE. I'm open. I just see nothing but a mean woman who, yes, is very old and has very very little to offer. Bill Clinton, who is normally very likeable, even he came across as a crusty jerk on Letterman the other day.

Was going to start its own thread: Letterman vs. the field. Have you been enjoying or ignoring the end of Letterman? I thought Hanks was awesome last night. He was on fire as a guest. Eddie Vedder was awesome too playing "Better Man." Some other celebs have been awesome as guests the last 2-3 weeks. My question was: Do you think TV execs told Dave it was time to go out on his own terms? Fallon I guess is a sensation with amazing ratings. My final point is ... Letterman acts like he's made the wrong decision to retire now that it's here. My take is ... he's leaving one job as a talk show host. It seems to me some network would hire him to pretty much do whatever he wants. He can work another 10 years in TV if he wants I'd think, just not as a talk show host. Uh, he's got quite the resume if he wants to continue to stay relevant on TV. Think of the money Barbara Walters has made the last 10 years, past the retirement age.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 6, 2015 -> 12:59 PM) The White Sox aren't trading Robertson. BTW, the World Series bound Cubs are now just as far out of 1st place as the White Sox. Haven't the Sox been red hot since this post? Pretty sure this is when Sox started to play some ball.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2015 -> 07:38 PM) A guy has to be pretty burnt out if minimum wage at Party City is better than baseball. Yes. I was going to say he'll need to have a career to make enough money to support the family. Must be a hard decision. If he's close to making the bigs, he could make a lot of money in a short period of time. If he's not going to make it, better to get going on a real job. But Party City won't cut it $$ wise. Baseball teams should cut out the "clubhouse fees." Embarrassing a billion dollar industry makes the minor leaguers pay for peanut butter sandwiches. The NBA is quite different, NFL too. No minor league. Just join the big leagues out of "college" and rake in the money.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) Greg happy! Hulk smash! I just for the life of me cannot see why a great country like ours would put Hillary Clinton in charge. I mean are you serious?? David Letterman is retiring. Isn't Hillary older than Dave? Why would a country with I-phones, amazing technology want somebody that old to be president? I just don't get it. I saw Bill Clinton on Letterman the other day and he seemed OLD. I mean, is Hillary prepared to lead us in a world with all these international tensions (beheadings, nuke threats, threats on our own soil, etc?) Why in the hell is Hillary Clinton a good choice to be president is all I want to know??? I've said it before and will say it until somebody explains it to me ... why is Hillary being awarded the oval office as some bizarre lifetime achievement award? Give her a participation trophy and let somebody with young ideas run the country. I just don't get what people see in Hillary, who by all accounts is one, mean elderly woman. How much proof of this do we need??? Disclaimer: forgive me for the age bias thing. Perhaps I didn't word it with compassion but do we really want an elderly woman to be our president for 8 years??? Are you all going to be jumping for joy the day she wins the election?? If so, please tell Greg WHY??? Enlighten me.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2015 -> 03:09 AM) Minnesota---trailed 4-0 Detroit---trailed 1-0 Cleveland---trailed 3-0 KCR---trailed 1-0, 2-1 KCR---trailed 3-0 Detroit---trailed 1-0, 2-1 Detroit---trailed 1-0, 3-1, 3-2, 4-3, 5-3, 6-3 Milwaukee---trailed 1-0 Milwaukee---trailed 1-0 Oakland---trailed 4-2, 5-2, 6-2 Oakland---trailed 2-0 Oakland---trailed 2-1 Cleveland---trailed 1-0 Little known fact: The franchise was first known as the Sioux City Cornhuskers in 1893. Finally, how can the White Sox, after winning five in a row on the road, and having Kluber AND Sale on the mound, only draw 17,712 fans? What was wrong with the weather? Blackhawks again? That's actually not too bad a crowd for Monday night in May, right? About 20,000 every night cept Thursday, Friday, Saturday? Sox need to make hay on those nights until they convince the fans they are a legit contender. They are playing like a contender for sure, but after that gosh-awful, pathetic start it will take a while for the non-crazed fan to believe that this is nothing more than one winning streak in a long season.
  23. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 19, 2015 -> 03:12 AM) just from experience, as someone with bad knees, I could tell right away it was his knee. THen he gestured to Herm and now they are saying "inflammation", which is the body's response to injury and usually not a good sign although not necessarily that uncommon for a pro athlete. Get him on the Derrick Rose foam rolling yoga plan. We need ptatc here and fast! When I hear swelling of the knee I think arthroscope and he could miss 2-4 weeks, right? You can't let it continue all year I'd imagine but ptatc can tell us for sure.
  24. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 19, 2015 -> 03:58 AM) Scot Gregor ‏@scotgregor 4m4 minutes ago Avi Garcia exited with inflammation in knee. Doesn't sound too serious Nice, but sounds a bit ominous and scary this early in season. Arthroscope in future?
  25. Great win. Gotta love what Eaton did in scoring from third on the ball escaping the catcher. You know how HUGE and impressive that play was? Amazing baseball savvy/speed by Eaton. Lexi with the nice leather and Melky too. Sanchez with the game-winning hit? Damn. Sox are hot. Not to mention great pitching. Just saw in the play by play Avi got hurt? Is he OK? Comiskey sounded loud! This city is ready for a White Sox winner again. It's time.
