  1. Not me. I ain't posting on the Oriole board. I'm a Chicago guy very very sad about what's happened to the Sox.
  2. Sign of the times that I'm glad TA is gone. I'm not a healthy fan. Truly am considering picking another team to follow. Fan loyalty to the Sox has waned so much. I want to compare this to something else but I'm not gonna risk starting a commotion on here.
  3. Even though I'd love to get rid of Beni, he actually is an MLB caliber ballplayer. Right now we don't have many. Robert, Beni, Moncada and Timmy are the only ones along with Cease. Elvis was one, but he's sadly over the hill. I don't count Eloy. Too small a sample size cause of hammy problems.
  4. It seems like the Sox are concerned about salary more than ever before. I guess it could be cause so much $$ is going to a couple players. But it seems like once they finally get rid of Beni, Moncada and Timmy and Eloy they may really have a low payroll. Didn't they sign Eloy to some huge deal off potential? I've never seen the Sox be such a non factor in acquiring good players. It's like they are playing a different brand of moneyball.
  5. Sox refuse to make any moves this offseason of note. Not a good business decision. There won't be any buzz about this team all season. Can't imagine them drawing any crowds over 30,000 cept opening day. I say 30,000 cause when the Yanks, Bosox, teams like that come to town they'll bring 10-15,000 fans.
  6. I agree. At least some of us would be interested in watching Colas sink or swim. But Sox would rather play a guy like Phillips lol.
  7. Not to be negative nancy, but bad teams make these type of moves (Royals). All in the pursuit of 60ish wins.
  8. I'm surprised some owners, like Jerry, are refusing to sell their teams. You'd think the desparity between the haves ($$ contracts) and have nots would embarass Reinsdorf. Sox could never sign a guy like this. In theory, how can the Sox and Twins and Royals compete? I'm also surprised they haven't switched the divisions around. Put a big money team or two in the Central and they'd dominate.
  9. Nice post as usual. You are a bit more optimistic than greg.
  10. No offense meant, but do we think this team is gonna sign four or five impact pitchers, an outfielder and a backup OF? I just don't see it. That'd be a massive overhaul in 3-4 weeks. Teams aren't trading; free agents aren't signing in early February. Team is on last place 60 win ceiling until otherwise noted.
  11. It takes way too long for draft picks to reach the majors. Fans would be furious following trades of good MLB players for draft picks. The Sox have drafted so many stiffs through the years.
  12. It's like they are trying to bore the fans even more. Nothing they've done so far convinces me they won't lose 105-110 games this season,
  13. What a dumb signing. Had to be for leadership. He's Salvy but subtract 10 homers and probably 50-70 points off the batting average.
  14. We're definitely headed that way. I guess you would justify mega salaries to such pitchers depending solely on strikeouts vs. walks. If a guy can strike out 7 or 8 of the 10 he's to make bank. Weird thing is everything is going to be geared even more so to Ks for pitchers and HRs for hitters. Hitters that are able to hit a good number of homers and not put the ball in play otherwise (Ks are fine) will earn the $$. Not much cash will go to defensive specialists or guys with speed on the bases. It's all going more and more to home run derby in the future. One problem with this is most of the HRs will be against pitchers 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 as pitchers 1, 2, 3 prolly will have nasty fastballs and cutters. You'll have to wait til the mediocres/stiffs enter the game for most of the launching pad at bats.
  15. Gary Peters could pitch and he could hit. In a simpler time, he along with Joel Horlen were responsible for a lot of little south side kids becoming Sox lovers. I'm sure they both would be appalled at the state of today's game regarding starting pitchers. They were just getting started at five innings and 100 pitches.
  16. That's pretty good $$. They think Gio can pitch. I was hoping we'd sign him cause at least I've heard of him. Rats our staff needs help.
  17. I'm fixin' to say Flexin isn't the answer (in looking at his stats).
  18. I like your post and optimism, wish I could be that way, but I can't see the Sox pitching being good enough to avoid 105-110 losses. Even the games the Sox play well, they'll blow 80 to 90 percent of those in the final 2-4 innings IMO. For me it's so different being a fan when I like none of the players unconditionally (Robert is pretty good, though) and I do not like the manager and am not a believer in the GM. I used to like some of the Sox.
  19. Ugh. His stats from last year scream, "I am an unwatchable hitter. I make outs but occasionally hit a home run."
  20. I think Pedro will be fired before the all-star break. The Sox will be something like 10-30 and that will be that. First scapegoat.
  21. Merry Christmas everybody. .... Interesting post. I can't imagine anybody buying tickets to watch the 2024 Sox. Maybe on a perfect late May evening weather wise against a good team you go to secondary market and buy a couple tickets. But to buy them way in advance and gamble on weather for this team? Don't see many doing it. I can't imagine opening day drawing more than 25,000 but I guess I could be mistaken.
  22. Wow, 90 losses isn't that bad with this roster. Not nuff for me to renew my mlb.com though. I'm turning into a fair weather fan. I'll pay close attention if our record tells me the Sox are a .500 team. If we go 2-10 to open the season, I, like most of the once great city of Chicago will be tuned out 100 percent.
  23. Maybe the Sox realize they actually need to keep Cease to avoid one of the worst records in baseball history. You gotta admit that pitching staff is really bad even with Cease. Without him, cmon do the Sox wanna win in the 40s to low 50s?
  24. Beckham seems like a nice guy but his voice ain't there yet. For me, it's kind of annoying. What did Brennaman do? I forget. If it's too bad don't put specifics. Is it forgivable?
  25. I keep forgetting we have another team in Chicago. It seems unpatriotic of me, if that's the right word, to discuss with myself the possibility of jumping ship. The Cubs actually have a ceiling of 10 over .500 don't they? Until the Sox acquire some guys to cover innings 5 to 9 our ceiling is made of straw. Sox should be active this offseason instead i think they are reluctant to trade their "name" players (Timmy, Eloy, Cease, Moncada, Vaughn).
