  1. Good question LipMan. I know I'm all over the map but I am a Sox fan and do want to win some games. I'm not a huge Cease fan (too many walks, 5 2/3 maximum man) but I do think he's an mlb caliber pitcher. So I'd prefer to have one starter I've actually heard of, even if I don't buy mlb.com. I think I turned off the autorenewal so I'm good to go there if i want to abandon my Sox. I wouldn't mind a thread where somebody optimistic could answer the question: "Why should I follow the Chicago White Sox this season?"
  2. I still would rather keep Cease. Even though he can only go five and our bullpen likely will blow most of his leads, in theory he gives us a guy with a chance to throw five (or six i can pray) innings of scoreless ball and maybe we can win a few games. I have a feeling we're gonna have a tough time winning 60 even with Cease.
  3. Sounds like Jerry has been the villain owning those parking lots instead of developing the area in that space. On the other hand, the parking lots are needed. Like you said you don't want to go walking east of GRate Field. That Sun Times article about saving Bridgeport was good but how do you build apartments and restaurants and bars when you need the parking lots?
  4. Can a 5-6 guy lift and pull or do we get 10 HRs combined from LF and RF all season? Not that I like lift and pull.
  5. I"ve seen this year after year with the Royals except for that 2-3 year window where they were great. The Royals talk a great game in spring training then by mid May are 15 out and done. Or early May. That's the upcoming fate of our Sox. We stink Who is our SS this year, Lopez? LOL.
  6. Ah the weak division argument from Beni. Nice guy. Nice try. I can't believe my team is now the one that espouses great optimism in preseason articles but we all know we are the new dregs team. Out of it after 3 weeks.
  7. At this point I hope they keep Cease. There's pride involved. I want to have a chance at 55 victories.
  8. So we're nearing Feb. 1. After that it's just hours before pitchers and catchers report. OK a few days. But my point is, quietly the offseason is about over. The Sox did absolutely nothing to improve the team. So my question to you is, "What's going on?" This is almost unprecedented. The Sox usually do something in the offseason. All of a sudden it's assumed Sox are flat out of cash and have no room to acquire anybody. Weird way to sell tix if they care at all about that. Good luck to the TV contract people. Who is going to watch this product this year? Not me.
  9. There's no way in hell our Sox are moving downtown. Book it. It's a stupid move bucking all trends regarding inner cities. You move to the suburbs or another city in another state.
  10. Buehrle may not be a Hall of Fame caliber but he was outstanding. Worked so fast; he was an artist on the mound. Mark couldn't pitch in today's game. He routinely cruised into the eighth or ninth. Love me some Buehrle.
  11. Steve Physioc was a Royals announcer and very dull. Are these 3 finalists guys who use a Wink Martendale announcer voice? Are Sox for the first time gonna have one of those guys? I want conversation not awful monotone deep voiced homerism with most of the game a commercial for the homestand. 'Make sure to get your tickets.' .... ugh.
  12. Playing in the loop does not sound good with our big cities having some major problems in modern America. Suburban fans won't be coming. They need to drive their cars and there's nowhere to park down there, baby.
  13. Congrats to him. All we need to know about the Sox is Bennetti is gone. A dream of his to broadcast his team. The team and organization is so full of bleep he left for Detroit of all places. My gosh, folks, this is a sign our team is the worst.
  14. Acquiring bodies to fill a team. Reminds me of a company softball team adding guys at a late date.
  15. Not me. I ain't posting on the Oriole board. I'm a Chicago guy very very sad about what's happened to the Sox.
  16. Sign of the times that I'm glad TA is gone. I'm not a healthy fan. Truly am considering picking another team to follow. Fan loyalty to the Sox has waned so much. I want to compare this to something else but I'm not gonna risk starting a commotion on here.
  17. Even though I'd love to get rid of Beni, he actually is an MLB caliber ballplayer. Right now we don't have many. Robert, Beni, Moncada and Timmy are the only ones along with Cease. Elvis was one, but he's sadly over the hill. I don't count Eloy. Too small a sample size cause of hammy problems.
  18. It seems like the Sox are concerned about salary more than ever before. I guess it could be cause so much $$ is going to a couple players. But it seems like once they finally get rid of Beni, Moncada and Timmy and Eloy they may really have a low payroll. Didn't they sign Eloy to some huge deal off potential? I've never seen the Sox be such a non factor in acquiring good players. It's like they are playing a different brand of moneyball.
  19. Sox refuse to make any moves this offseason of note. Not a good business decision. There won't be any buzz about this team all season. Can't imagine them drawing any crowds over 30,000 cept opening day. I say 30,000 cause when the Yanks, Bosox, teams like that come to town they'll bring 10-15,000 fans.
  20. I agree. At least some of us would be interested in watching Colas sink or swim. But Sox would rather play a guy like Phillips lol.
  21. Not to be negative nancy, but bad teams make these type of moves (Royals). All in the pursuit of 60ish wins.
  22. I'm surprised some owners, like Jerry, are refusing to sell their teams. You'd think the desparity between the haves ($$ contracts) and have nots would embarass Reinsdorf. Sox could never sign a guy like this. In theory, how can the Sox and Twins and Royals compete? I'm also surprised they haven't switched the divisions around. Put a big money team or two in the Central and they'd dominate.
  23. Nice post as usual. You are a bit more optimistic than greg.
  24. No offense meant, but do we think this team is gonna sign four or five impact pitchers, an outfielder and a backup OF? I just don't see it. That'd be a massive overhaul in 3-4 weeks. Teams aren't trading; free agents aren't signing in early February. Team is on last place 60 win ceiling until otherwise noted.
  25. It takes way too long for draft picks to reach the majors. Fans would be furious following trades of good MLB players for draft picks. The Sox have drafted so many stiffs through the years.
