Who do you want or think will replace Benetti?
I know this has been rehashed to death but losing Benetti, a lifelong Sox fan, just seems wrong. Not just a fan but perhaps the best young announcer out there. If we need a "sign" at how this franchise is "near" rock bottom, it's losing Benetti. And to do Tigers games? I know $$$ talks but no true Chicagoan wants to spend any time in Detroit. Geez. What a depressing town (just my opinion). I'll take Swirsky.

Ohtani Watch: Dodgers sign - 700M over 10yrs
If he picks the Cubs, wow. The Sox really should move at that point. The Sox will have their 12,000 loyal fans (including all of us on here). The Cubs will own the city and he'll be the new Chicago sports icon (Hull, Banks, Minnie, Big Hurt, Butkus, Sayers, Payton). Not sir Michael though. He's forever in a class by himself. Sox should sell team and get Ohtani.

Giolito speaks...
Not to derail the thread as I like Gio, but until the Sox get rid of Pedro they can't be taken seriously. How in the world can this team sell any tickets? Who would be dumb enough to pay baseball 2023 prices to go out to GRate and watch this team play baseball? There are minor league options, folks, though those prices have gone up,too. How in the world can they keep Pedro. What do they see in him? Geez.

Pony up!
it's amazing how teams are stuck getting rid of the nickle and dime employees while the only reason they are in this boat is what happened with salary escalation year after year of ballplayers. It never slowed down. Even now they are paid so much money when they are more brittle than ever. It's almost impossible for a pitcher to avoid serious arm surgery and players are on the DL all the time as we know too well. But keep cutting scouts and secretaries rather than ever face the real problem (ballplayer salaries are too late to fix; baseball will go broke before those salaries ever stop going up).

Bummer to ATL
I'm not a big Bummer fan so the Sox at least got 5 players for him.

Ohtani Watch: Dodgers sign - 700M over 10yrs
Any chance the Sox could change perception and sign this guy? He'd be great with Robert and his signing plus bringing in Salvy and Merrifield might bring out the best in Eloy, Timmy, Vaughn. Think about it. Signing one player would fix our everyday lineup in one day. If he can pitch again we'd have he and Cease. Sometimes you have to make a move dollars be damned that in one swoop could spark/cure a franchise and entire south side. I mean Jerry could tell Ohtani to wait, that he's selling the team and the new owners could bring him to town and fix this team. It's frankly sad that the Sox probably aren't in the discussion at all. Getting him would mean so much. I'm probably dreaming, The odds of getting Ohtani would be the same as an astronaut walking on the surface of the sun.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Tough crowd. I was noting in a horrid economy baseball apparently is exempt making $$$ no matter the fact u can't leave a grocery store without 60 bucks stripped from the wallet. Sports are immune.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Crazy to think the Sox will make money. I understand why they will (TV revenue, which baffles me. The economy is totally in the tank; have u walked out of a grocery story paying under 60 bucks just for some fruit, lunch meat, just a couple odds and ends like toothpaste?) yet somehow the networks can pay exorbitant amounts for a sport with low ratings. The Sox will be unwatchable next year yet the TV money piles in. Very strange stuff. ... Think of how bad this team is going to be. Nobody's gonna watch. That said ... get the biggest haul you can for Cease. The Sox aren't gonna contend for a while even if everybody wants that. We have to face reality. Try to get somebody as good a prospect as Robert. Throw TA in the deal and make it a blockbuster (even tho TA lost all power and is not very good anymore).

A.J. rips Getz/Grifol...
I'm sure if I watch games again I'll have him as a favorite. Doubles are good. Walk rate must improve obviously as u pointed out. Sox need to get rid of TA if he's one of the main 'problems' in the clubhouse. He's not that good to be a problem if indeed he is one. Ditto Moncada. Ditto Eloy. I wonder if Vaughn is a good clubhouse guy. I'd keep Vaughn and Robert and maybe Eloy and let the other position players take a hike. Maybe keep Elvis solely as a utility guy.

A.J. rips Getz/Grifol...
Very good question. My bad but it's probably cause i didn't watch any games after all star break and didn't fall in love with Robert despite all the homers. Plus isn't Robert an all or nothing guy too? HR or strikeout. I'm probably gonna be done with baseball soon cause there are too many things about the modern game I hate. Sad. I also loved Wilbur Wood. i was at the DH where he started both games. I think he mita got a no decision in both or lost one of em and no decision the other. Didn't wilbur get bunted out of baseball? after knee problems teams bunted it to the left and right of him and he couldn't make the plays anymore.

A.J. rips Getz/Grifol...
Same with me. First time in a long time I have had absolutely no favorite player on the Sox roster. I used to stand up for some guys on the board who I liked who got ripped a lot. Now I don't like any of 'em particularly. No pitchers for sure are on my like list. I was starting to like Burger.

A.J. rips Getz/Grifol...
Let us know when AJ has the episode about incidents this past season that he alluded to. Sox are a complete mess. Our favorite team has never had a worse outlook. Even Veeck who had no cash brought in a few stars that could carry a team to respectability like Zisk, Gamble, Soderholm, Spencer et all in 77 and a few others that failed like Bonds, Kessinger, Santo and Washington, etc. This team is void of the kind of talent it takes to win games and apparently has a bunch of losers in the clubhouse. Good luck Getz in fixing this mess of a team. I hesitate to say we need Salvy and some other clubhouse guys cause Abreu was a consummate pro and he couldn't fix it.

Good to hear ex Sox blast the team. More need to do it as well. Keeping Pedro is just plain awful. Along with Bevington the worst hire in Sox history probably.

Benetti to Tigers
That was a lazy comparison by Parkins. Why pick on Robert, our only good player? He coulda said Benetti is better broadcaster than Timmy is a SS or Vaughn is a 1Bman, etc. Robert like I said is the only good above average player on the team.

Benetti to Tigers
Wanker is a great word. When I think of wanker I think of a Steve Physioc who had such an awful nasal plastic announcers voice for the Royals many years. Give me the rare conversational voice like Hawk or Harry or even the Royals Denny Matthews. The game show host voice can be really annoying/maddening. My guess is the Sox go with a wanker even tho that's not been their history.

Benetti to Tigers
Jason did a nice job, but frankly I didn't miss he and Stoney when I stopped watching games after the all star break. Good luck to him. I bet you the Sox bring in somebody Stone will hate, some plastic Wink Martindale voice guy who is a total homer. Hopefully Stoney drives the new guy crazy by continuing to be critical of the pathetic product Jerry puts on the field. It has to be depressing working for the Sox right now as they appear to be mismanaged. The Sox are probably happy to get rid of Jason since he has many other things going on, not just sox baseball.

Craig Counsell
Pedro seems overmatched. Is there any way he could turn it around and become say, Al Lopez in a few years? My question is, despite my disdain for Pedro is there any hope he'll be top notch at some point?

MLB Trade Rumors - Chicago White Sox Offseason Outlook - by Tim Dierkes
That's a possibility. Nice post. ... My deal was if we acquire a batch of veterans (votto, salvy, merrifield) or youngssters not that good (massey) to fill an everyday lineup, it won't cost the Sox that much loot. But I sort of like your idea to spend money on pitching pitching and only pitching cause of those younger bodies you mentioned who could play in the field.

MLB Trade Rumors - Chicago White Sox Offseason Outlook - by Tim Dierkes
Burger's home run totals were amazing (for 10-15 years ago before everybody went to lift and pull). Any way we can get him back via trade? I'd love a team of Salvy catcher, Votto 1B, timmy second, mike massey ss and Burger 3B. Get Massey in the Salvy deal. And build from there. I don't want Nicky L. Is there any way we could get guys 'like' a Greinke to start for the team? That'd be funny if the Sox went to all veterans for a year or two til they get some prospects ready. I wouldnt discount Elvis being back. Hell, stick him in the outfield.

Tim Anderson Free Agency Discussion
Tim is overrated but he'd look better in a lineup with Votto and Salvy. This would be a start to respectability mabe. You've got to have some type of plan if you wanna win 50 games for starters.
-
Mike Clevinger declines player option.
Sign Votto now if u are serious about improving the attitude. Then acquire Salvy as cheap as possible.

Mike Clevinger declines player option.
Can you imagine trying to sell season tickets to anybody who knows baseball just a little? Has any team had fewer legitimate choices to start baseball games? Is it hyperbole to suggest this might be one of the worst teams in baseball history this upcoming season? Absolutely no reason to go to the games except to see the cool uniforms, eat the food (plenty of places are better in the city for your bang for the buck) and just experience MLB in a cool ballpark.

2023 World Series- Rangers/Dbacks
yeah but the games i watched before tuning out after the all star break they were still shifting enuf to be noticeable.
-
2023 World Series- Rangers/Dbacks
Had a couple questions. I watched none of this World Series. Not a pitch. a.) I read somewhere ratings were at a historic low for WS. My question is does this matter? Do Fox and the other networks care at all about ratings? Or is all good in that area because there were still a ton of commercials and advertisers bought in? b.) As a sporting event, how was it? Were the games good? Was it glorified home run derby combined with batters foolishly swinging at bad pitches and striking out? Did any starters go past five innings? Did the pitch clock help make watching the game of baseball tolerable this WS? c.) I heard some podcast guy commenting on how there are not enuf Americans playing MLB and too many foreign players and also too many no name players. He was lamenting the average person, average person, cannot name 2-3 players on any team except the team they follow closely. Anything to this? d.) Have analytics simply ruined baseball? Eliminated all popular stat categories? Is the shift the most annoying trend in sports history? Peace out.

Paul Janish Hired as Director of Player Development
Doesn't look like a very good hire.
