Oh my. We weren't dumb after all. The Sox are historically as bad as we expected. Can u imagine being a pitcher and you get to face a bottom five of Sheets, Bong, Lopez, Mandy and Fletcher? Nirvana for a pitcher. I am not exaggerating or full of hyperbole. This is the worst lineup in Sox history. It just is. Then you got Beni at the top who is no hit machines. Take Eloy out and it's pretty darn bad. Oh my. Braves 9-0. Sox should be fined by the commish for fielding a team this poor. I'm dumbfounded.

Do the Sox still not allow people in the upper tank to visit other areas of the ballpark? You buy a ticket up there u stuck up there? Considering what their crowds are gonna be like pretty soon, that's pretty dumb if it's true.

There's not much media out there anymore. The TV guys are paid by the team I believe thus lean toward being homers. Stoney was critical at times in the past, should be interesting to see if he just mails it in for the paycheck this year. ... The newspapers have no real strong voice like Mariotti was. So the media is pretty much a non factor. MLB.com isn't going to be real negative. That leaves the occasional national columnist. They won't waste their time. ... Reinsdorf has to sell the team. Invest your money elsewhere Jerry. It can't be 'fun' being owner of this rotten ballclub with no real end of misery in sight.

Again, this man was ready willing and able to be hired by the Royals who knew everything they needed to know about Pedro. The Royals passed on him. Let's face facts. This team and everything about it has no bright spots now except Robert (til he likely gets hurt again) and maybe Montgomery. Grifol is not good.

Illinois had an incredibly good team. It's impossible to explain how they got buried by a 30-0 run. Illini got a great team, a very good coach, can we blame this one on starting times of games for the U of I? ... So it's Bama-UConn and Purdue-NC State. Purdue-UConn is a very competitive final. Or I think it would be.

The problem is the Sox are just beginning one of those long stretches of badness that the Pirates and Orioles have had. Remember when the O's finished last every year and were out of it every May? Sox need so much of everything I would expect the team to blow chunks again next season. We need a new owner badly. And we need a manager like Maddon when he was good. ... Seriously, in a polite way Jerry needs to be run out of town. How can any reasonable fan accept two tank jobs in such a short period of time?

Jerry ought to take that money and give out some free beer/soda at games to fans dumb enuf to pay 45 bucks for a seat to attend.

Spring training optimistic b.s. Worst roster I've ever seen in my Sox fandom and that's saying a lot. No hyperbole. No team strengths except defense if u believe the experts.

At least the Sox are predictable. They lose a lot and players get hurt a lot. Now it's a AAA team vs the Braves? I guess we see if somehow a minor league team can beat a good MLB team. Can you imagine the clubhouse right now? Three straight losses at home against Benetti's boys after the usual b.s. optimism of spring training. 0-3 is one huge LOL even though we should expect it. Even non-pathetic Sox teams struggle to win in the Cell. It'd be funny if they go 0-10 or some such thing.

I've lived in KC area a long time after growing up in Chicago, so I must say I'm not a fan of relish on a hot dog, i do like chopped onions on a hot dog; I do like mustard on a hot dog, but I must confess ketchup mixes pretty well with the mustard on a hot dog. no pickles either. So I want hot dog with mustard, ketchup, onion and tomatoes are OK on there. No peppers. I hate to say it but a traditional chicago dog does not suit me. I don't like those chicago hot dog buns either with the black specs on them, i assume that's pepper.

Me too. My experiment of not buying mlb.com is proving adept. I do not have any desire to watch the Sox play live. I have checked the highlights of our first two games. Also, however, the Royals and Cubs. I'm trying to care about more than the White Sox. ... Nice 2HR game by Robert. .... Also, being optimistic, could this Shewmake guy be good? I liked his heads up baserunning and he hit a HR. Anybody think this guy might be OK to excellent? First round pick.

The fact the Royals didn't hire Grifol is all we need to know. Please fire him soon. And please sell the team. Sox will not be a factor again til the team is sold and somebody who pursues winning takes over. I'm sure of that.

Weird topic but now that u mention it ... I gave up coffee about 8 months ago cause I faced a schedule with a ton of travel and frankly I wanted to see if I'd be able to go less. You take a 2.5 hour plane ride it'd be nice to not have to get up especially if you have no aisle seat. You drive 4 hours with other people and you do not want to have to stop more than mabe once. You get in an uber for a 20 minute ride and you certainly don't want to have to find a bathroom cause u just chugged some water or coffee. I will say having no coffee cold turkey did help reduce the need to hit the bathroom. I worship coffee, just love it, but now don't drink it. It's a good trade off. I don't need to find a starbucks to avoid a coffeeless headache and don't have to race to the bathroom as much at inopportune times. However, don't quite understand why most nights I have to get up a lot to go to the bathroom. Truly it's annoying. If it is emotional issues I could see that cause I am a wreck as in Veeck. Peace out.

What is known is the bottom three in the lineup are historically bad. There's no stud in the lineup except Robert. Moncada, Robert, Eloy and Vaughn will probably have nights the four of them rake. We 'should' win many of those games maybe if the bullpen doesn't implode those nights. This team has no power at all and the most of the hitters won't make any opposing pitcher sweat especially the last 3 guys in the order. You can't strike out as many times as this lineup will and walk so few times and homer so few times and win games. I'll stick with this season being historically bad.

Don't forget the dandy defense the Sox put out there today and are gonna put out there on a daily basis.

Great post. Caulfield I am going to try to follow the Cubs a bit this year since some say they may win the division. Feel free to DM me with any comments Cub related. I know from your posts you follow the Cubs some and I know little bout the team except their closer is allegedly good, they have a Cy Young candidate at starter and the Suzuki and Morel guys allegedly can hit.

I was in my car listening to the end of the Sox game on Sirius and DJ and Len were talking about how smooth Nicky looks at 2B. And then Len responded, "and what about DeJong at short? They really look smooth out there." This was after Nicky fielded a routine grounder at second in the ninth. Ugh.

I would praise incessantly and be willing to send 10 bucks cash tip at the end of the season for anybody in soxtalk willing to count the actual fans at our games this year. It would be neat to get an actual attendance count. Not to be a jerk but I could envision under 1,000 fans being at a lot of our games. They'll never list a crowd under 15,000 on the official box. Think about it. Southsiders aren't dumb. They are not gonna show just to get a delicious corned beef sandwich. The amount of fans there will be count-able. Surely somebody in the age of analytics would tackle this challenge for us fans.

It's Opening Day, let them be sunshine one day. It'll change to apathy soon enough. Not sure how Oz is going to comment after games on the postgame. I mean there's not much to say. Look at our lineup. Look at our assortment of pitchers. Yikes (albeit hats off to a nice job by the pitchers today; even pessimist greg can't deny one run allowed is dandy.

And by trading all vets that guarantees 50-60 wins the following season and again the following season. By then the only fans heading to GRate Field will be the once-a-year folks. Did the Sox sell out the opener today?

I would like to say if 'somehow, some way' the Sox are good I will be happy, not hope they reek just because I feel it's a horrible roster makeup and horrible front office and manager. I think I deserve some fair weather-ism after being a Sox fan all my life. Until this year I've never gone completely, utterly negative. Even during the tank years I'd get in trouble on the board for wanting us to win 'meaningless' games in August and Sept. So yes I'd jump aboard the bandwagon if we somehow win. That said ... 49 wins to 51 wins. I'll go 49.
