  1. That's why I was against the Sox ill advised decision to tank. You try to get in the playoffs by winning an inept division, then see if you can catch fire. That's a much more sound strategy than tanking and trying to rebuild. Insanity. One problem with the Sox right now is for the first time in perhaps decades they have no talent or very very very little talent on the MLB roster. So tinkering to become a contender would be a difficult task and tanking would be so bad. The team if it trades its only 'decent' players (TA, Moncada, Vaughn, Cease, Robert) and acquire a batch of prospects may field the worst team in baseball history for a while. Getz has his work cut out either way. But your goal should always be to have a team that conceivably could win the division then catch lightning in a bottle in the playoffs.
  2. I would as well. Of course no guarantee their replacements will be much better. Vaughn might actually deserve one more year in a Sox jersey. He ended up with 80 RBI and hit almost .260. 21 homers. I won't cry if he's dealt but he actually might look good in the lineup. Shoulda kept Burger as well. "On paper" TA, Burger, Eloy, Vaughn isn't horrific. But alas Burger is gone.
  3. If I were a coach I would not take parents' calls. And in person confrontations would not be pretty. ... That said I wonder if school ADs and principals 'force' the coaches to talk to parents. Seems to me if you want a sports program, parents need to stay out of it. If there are formal complaints, allegations of hazing or something criminal, go to police or the AD first.
  4. 19,000 fans is kinda embarrassing. What does that tell an owner?? Get that team the heck out of Florida. I'd love to get the Rays on the South Side with their ownership and ship Jerry's Sox to Vegas or contract them.
  5. Thanks. I did not know that about the MLB. Maine South of course has only one loss I think, to Br Rice. Good to hear coach Q knows what he's doing and it's trending upward for the future. Should be interesting to see if BR can beat Nazareth and Rita. I'd think we would beat Montini though they are 5-1. My guess is the Rita game is huge and emotional. what is brian badke doing now? is he still in the area? I don't even know what Fraser is doing now.
  6. Well if u don't like him, pick some of the other writers of that era. Critical columns were very common at least as I recall. Unless I'm missing something, not as many critical pieces on the Sox these days though I do remember reading one or two late in this disastrous campaign.
  7. Same with me. Lifelong fan just finally stopped watching. After the all-star break I was done. I not only despise this team I despise modern baseball: Whiff or home run. I despise our Sox getting behind in the count and waving at the ball in the dirt for strike three. Or the pathetic half swing where they are fooled and either get the call or whiff. ... Of course the shift which remains and players refusal to poke hits thru the shift. Annoying. No bunt singles. Manfred should just change the rules and play home run derby if HRs are so special. Or play 5 innings real ball and end it with 4 innings of derby. And pitchers who have redefined the term starter. Can't go more than 5 1/3. Pathetic. With pitchers W/L records meaningless and complete games a thing of the past, they've taken away all interest in that position. Somehow pitchers arms have completely changed and they can't go deep in games cept for a rare rare occasion. How bad were the tv ratings anyway fathom, educate us pls.
  8. That is all true. I just wish we'd get somebody who can run a team like Rob Thomson. This is a new era of media with no real critics like Mariotti back in the day. So we don't hear the stories of perhaps how bad Grifol is. Did the Sox have one highlight all season? Maybe a five game win streak or something.
  9. Keeping him is wrong. Sox gave him a whole season. The team was one of the worst in club history. Get rid of him. My gosh, Sox. You can afford to pay him exit money. This guy needs to go.
  10. Ozzie ripping the Sox on pre game for playing this insulting lineup on fan appreciation day. No TA and Eloy, laughable.
  11. The Sox should be pleased with attendance this season. Our fans shock me. They haven't resembled A's fans yet. They still come out. Did we really have 30,000 last night? That's incredible. The fact the Sox haven't publicly gushed about their loyal fans and done something for them the last week of the season (they could have had free parking or free food) astounds me. To those of u who went to two or more games (up to 40 or so) I appreciate your loyalty. Good job. I'm kind of sad I haven't watched a game since about Aug. 8. I have watched some highlights on my mlb game summary package. My mlb is run out after today's game and I doubt I'll renew. No interest in watching anything but highlights.
  12. I agree he's not trying to deliberately ruin the franchise. This season's ineptitude came out of nowhere. However going .500 under Tony ... he should have hired somebody like Maddon, not somebody from the Royals who the Royals bypassed for the job. I mean that was a HUGE warning sign there. Sox need to go back to an elder manager even tho Tony didn't work out. Why can't they do some things that are positive? That Burger trade was ridiculous. Nobody can defend that one effectively. I think they will acquire Salvy after the World Series and that will be the start of their rejuvenation (in their minds). I'm assuming Beni is another player who cares so they'll have Salvy and Beni changing the attitude. They'll get rid of TA in their one blockbuster and believe it or not keep Elvis around in case they can't find somebody decent to replace TA. Elvis wound up hitting .250 and he'll be the emergency candidate at SS if TA is shipped. Elvis also has a good attitude allegedly. So Salvy, Beni and Elvis will try to awaken Robert's full potential and help out Vaughn and Sheets and that new catcher we got who can't hit, as well who can sub for Salvy at times. In conclusion as much as I'd love Jerry to sell the team for some reason he wants to be the scorn of Chicago and keep the club. The goodwill of 2005 is gone unfortunately because of this terrible season to go with last season's Tony debacle.
  13. Congrats Reinsdorf. You owe something to the fans. This season was an utter disgrace. The Chicago White Sox were unwatchable, thus 100 losses. Somehow you have two big leaguers among your everyday players (Robert, Anderson) and you have one MLB pitcher among your everyday pitchers (Clevinger). Cease was a joke this season,. And you have nobody who would be considered an exceptional fielder. Maybe one in Robert. You owe an apology to any fan who paid for tickets for five or more games. You should get them free parking passes at the minimum for next season. The White Sox cannot play modern baseball, that is for sure. They won't draw walks at the plate. Their lift angle while trying to hit HRs every at bat is not acceptable. They do a nice job of waving at strike three in the dirt though. And their defense is abysmal. Everyone involved with the organization deserves a grade of F. 100 losses. Wow.
  14. I hate to defend Burger so much since I was so against drafting a then-pudgy bad fielding third baseman out of Mo. State. But he is amazing. And trading him was so wrong. You dump Moncada and keep Burger. Geez that was a bad trade. He actually was one guy we could have penciled in at 3B for the next 10 years. Instead, he gawn. Ridiculous.
  15. Not too hot. I watched the Rice-Mt. Carmel game tonight. Rice got slugged 42-7. I will NEVER criticize high school kids as they are kids not getting paid and are trying. That being said coach Q is using two QBs and letting them each play a series, rotating. That's never worked on any level. Rice was down 28-0 and the public address announcer told the fans to quit making negative comments. I forget the word he used. Damn I wish I could remember it. It wasn't 'negative' it was something like 'derogatory.' He actually told the fans to behave better. He said 'this is high school football.' I'm assuming the fans were booing coach Q. Vanilla offense. Not our night in any way. I fear this is the year no playoffs. Team is 3-3 heading into Nazareth. After that Rita and somebody else. Got to go 2-1 to get in. Mt. Carmel QB is amazing. Mt. Carmel had big linemen. Unfortunately if Rice played 'em 10 times we'd lose all 10. Harry ... will coach Q stick around for the long haul? Rice is 3-3 and trending downward. Didn't see a lot of talent out there tonight. That said as always i appreciate the effort of the kids. The ain't getting paid and are trying. It just seems futile.
  16. Another good post. The only good thing about being a Sox fan right now is many of u on the board are smart peeps regarding the Sox.
  17. I guess I wrote it wrong. I want all new coaches and a new manager to coach 'em up. I don't want Getz but it's too late. I was being sarcastic about them possibly being successful in the draft while yes demanding the picks they get work out. ... No I don't want a rebuild. I consider the guys we are trading to be worth very little. I want to get rid of Moncada and TA and Eloy. ... It may look like a tank/rebuild but we don't have the current assets to deal in a tank/rebuild. I am advocating just normal trades of average players in TA, Moncada and Eloy.
  18. This post is useless. Why? Sox have no assets to trade that would support a tank/rebuild. Moncada, TA and Eloy and Cease are not going to bring enough in. I am in favor of getting rid of TA and Moncada, sure. But a tank/rebuild will not work this time. You aren't going to get much for either TA or Moncada, folks. Eloy 'might' bring something useful in the rebuild mode. Moncada is a player nobody with a brain wants. Cease walks too many batters to bring back a ton of useful rebuild assets. The Sox blew it by hiring Getz and hiring Pedro. The only way out of this is to have competent baseball people made a couple trades, coach up the few good players we have in the minors, draft well (lol Sox don't draft well) and try to get back to .500 which will let u compete in the laughable Central Division. A tank/rebuild? I'd rather the Sox move or be contracted from the league.
  19. Me too. I actually want us to lose 100. It's been that bad a season. Wear it Sox. Sox were so bad they are making this an unbearable winter cause we have nothing to look forward to sports wise in the spring. Sox are going to be even worse than this season after they trade the underachievers TA and Moncada and Eloy. Vaughn and Salvy will be our lineup leaders. Yikes.
  20. Can't believe we won with 3 hits. 23,000 fans?? Cmon how is that possible. Little April Fools joke a few months past April?
  21. 60-98? Wow. Who would have thought the team will lose 100 games and only win 60 or 61. Couple of comments. ... -- Despite the lack of talent on the team, Pedro must be let go after the final game of the season. Give him a trophy for having to coach this oft-injured, bad fundamental bunch. But he needs to go far away. It's INEXCUSABLE to let him stay after an 100 loss season. Cmon. This is Bevington-ish. -- Sox must SOMEHOW win trades for Anderson, Moncada and Eloy and Cease. The future of the team depends on it. Next year figures to be a 50-win season. The year after, if the Sox get good players in those trades and actually sign some GOOD free agents, the team could be .500 by 2016 and maybe a winner after that. I see no way this club is anything but awful in 2014, 2015. It might show a little progress in 2016, like maybe finish 8-10 under .500. 2017 better be a winner. Bring in Joe Maddon for gawd sakes. Somebody like Dusty Baker. Anybody but Pedro. Why would you want Pedro to coach the abysmal teams of 2014 and 2015? Bring in somebody the baseball world respects. Get Francona to un-retire. Wish we could get Rob Thomson.
  22. Thank goodness they got an F and are being called out. The White Sox are doing a great job in only one regard: Turning longtime multi decade "lifelong fans" into people who no longer care about their passion, White Sox baseball. They've turned many many fans into front runners. It used to be we loved our Sox thru thick and thin. Now ... wake us up when you actually have gotten your bleep together and have a contender. Worst season in Sox history with little hope for the rest of the decade. Thanks Sox (sarcastic) ... you made me not care. They make no effort to keep one likeable player in Abreu and then for some reason trade the semi-loveable Burger whose name truly fit that pudgy loveable face.
  23. Sox had an 80% chance of winning after inning one. How stupid are those odds during games. The Sox lost 15-4 for geez sake. Eloy elevated. I guess that's good. Man, the Sox stink. Worst team in many of our lifetimes bar none. Utterly awful ballclub.
  24. I wonder if Sox brass has talked to the Bears yet. The Bears probably want their own property/stadium, but it'd be intriguing to have them both out there in Arlington. That'd be a good scoop for Nightengale if he could find out if Bears and Sox have spoken at least.
  25. If they move to Arlington (why not Naperville instead?) they'll definitely have a suburban flavor to them. I'd think the diehard loyal south siders won't go out to Arlington much if ever to see the Sox. I would think the Cubs would love the Sox moving out there. They'd have everybody in Chicago proper coming to Wrigley IMO. I would guess true South Siders would be very upset and would not go out to Arlington. But again, suburbia is enough to average 30,000 a game me thinks.
