GT 8/27: OAK @ SOX, 1:10, now I'm stuck doing another one
Maybe Colas and Sosa are two guys to build around with Robert.

Update: 3 (2) fans injured by bullet in Guaranteed Rate field (split from game thread, police investigation underway)
Seriously? My impressions of Chicago are that of fear now. And I grew up on 103rd Street South before moving to Lisle. Visited parents twice a year til they passed away. Now I am scared to death about perhaps getting mugged or carjacked on two trips I have planned for Oct and november. I'm scared to death and that's sad. Maybe I need to get mental help on this issue but that's how I feel. Not that I'm comfy in KC area either. I know a guy whose wife is a doctor They got car jacked at 11 a.m. on a Thursday in a "safe" suburb. Yes they did.

Cease ceased to be an elite prospect this season. He's OK some starts but nobody can say he's special. Not sure why baseball hasn't gone all in yet on limiting starters to two innings like the rest of the staff. I think Cease will be pretty good in the two inning world if he ever decides to throw strikes consistently.

This is pretty neat. The Sox can win a series against somebody.

No one cares about this White Sox Winner!
Is Sosa good?

Do you agree once violent activity hits the stadiums for sporting events (i.e. bullets), it's all over for spectator sports? They'll just be shown on TV with no fans? Sure there are always fisticuffs at games but bullets will provide a different outcome. I would think there would be ways to sneak guns into games. Maybe security will sniff out all guns.

Illinois High School Football Thread
Hey Harry, Rice opened with a 10-7 win over Maine South. Maine South is supposed to be pretty good I think. What do you think of BR team this year? Has coach Q become a true Catholic League coach realizing you need defense to somehow slow Loyola and Mt. Carmel? Does Rice have a good QB and receivers? Are they seniors? Why is Rice opening with four road games? please fill me in. I tried to watch the game on maine south youtube and the broadcast failed. What's the story on Rice? Why do you think they abandoned scheduling a total patsy in week one? And will BR beat Marist?

Update: 3 (2) fans injured by bullet in Guaranteed Rate field (split from game thread, police investigation underway)
This isn't getting much national play. Is it the old Friday news cycle thing? There was a shooting at a high school football game in Oklahoma Friday, also getting hardly any play. Might just be declining news organizations have hardly anybody working on weekends. Just wondering is all. Even if the Sox bullet was from a mile away, people were bleeding apparently so people got hit by it. Huge news. The violence we've seen the past couple years has yet to hit the sports stadiums. If it does, it's a whole new world again, That's why I wonder why everybody is so sure owning a sports team is a golden investment. In our brave new world, anything can happen (covid spreads can shut it down in a moment; shootings at sports stadiums also could change the scene dramatically). I'm just wondering why the shootings aren't getting much national play.

Will be interesting to follow this. Should be a huge story. Remember the old story true or not about a bullet from Cabrini Green hitting a seat at old Comiskey? That was a huge story or wives tale but got a lot of attention. This ... massive news. Let's see if it gets covered at all. I already saw a news video report on it where the reporter seemed frustrated no news yet provided reporters. This shooting, inside the park during a game, should be unprecedented. Can't ever recall this happening. For the Sox to continue the game, inexcusable!! This is huge news. Let's see what develops. What the police say happened. If there were live bullets fired, Sox should be ashamed. Got to clear the stadium unless they are sure they apprehended the shooter.

8/25, 6:10 CT - White Sox vs. A's: Pedro's playing rookies on 90s night
Cease has ceased to be special, folks. We got to accept that fact.

8/24 Sox vs. Athletics
Vaughn is up to .256. I still not a fan but maybe he can hit .280.

After an exhaustive search, Getz named GM/VP
I hope Getz knows what he's doing. Sox need to fire everybody. Get better talent evaluators, minor league coaches. Jerry needs to do his part and spend some money (I know our payroll is OK lately). Sox need to add some MLB talent and that means signing a few good free agents. For gawd sake get rid of Moncada somehow, any way possible. Get rid of Anderson and find a way to trade Benintendi. Dump the experiment with Sheets. Get rid of the entire bullpen and find some guys who can throw strikes and get people out in a relief role. Cmon Getz, getz your act together and make some significant moves starting with the dumping of Moncada and Anderson!

8/23 Kirby v. Kopech Gamethread
Couldn't have been 1,000 people at the game, right? The highlights showed a couple hundred bodies. Virtually nobody in the city wanted to be at GRate on Wednesday. Too hot. Too bad a team.

KW/Hahn - They Gone
The 05 Sox had one of the most dominant teams in postseason history. The pitchers kept tossing complete games which just 18 years later is extinct.

KW/Hahn - They Gone
I was wondering about the task ahead of our future GM. Sick of my own pessimism I ask you fellow posters, ones who know way more than me, about a "best case" scenario for our new GM. What can he do in the near future to get the Sox back to being a .500 team. Please outline for me what your plan would be if you are the next GM. What moves do you make? And please tell me. Is there any scenario in which the Sox could field a good to great team in 2-3 years? Or will it take 5-10? Talk me off the ledge please and instruct our new GM.

Rick Hahn Appreciation Thread
I don't know the history so if Rick H did have something to do with our amazing 2005 run I thank him for helping bring me so much joy that season, postseason and offseason (it was fun being champ til Opening Day 2006). But what he's done to this franchise is sorry, sad, despicable. The White Sox are buried right now and it figures to take a long time to recover. Team is a mess with virtually no reason for optimism. I'm so despondent I no longer am passionate about them even staying in Chicago. Don't get me wrong I want them to stay. So thanks for 05. I will not be an ingrate about that if you had much to do with it. But Rick, your stupid tanking had no chance of working and didn't work and left us with this horrific team. Your scouts have failed and brought the southside so many bad baseball players at least for this new era of baseball. HR or K at the plate; five inning mediocre at best starters who walk a lot of people giving way to stupendously mediocre to poor relievers. And fielders? Ha. Worse defensive teams imaginable with guys who do not have the will to win in any way. Thanks for the title though. That was wonderful. Peace to you and yours Mr. Hahn.

KW/Hahn - They Gone
First thing I'd do is rehire Renteria and start over with him in the dugout. Pedro made some good money as manager so no need to pity him. He'll catch on somewhere.
-
KW/Hahn - They Gone
Good. This team is despicably bad. Thank goodness they have been shown the door. Their performance in building this rotten team is unprecedented. Every move they've made just about is horrific. Trading Burger alone is fire-worthy plus so many other things. Team needs a new manager NOW as well. Team needs a good GM. This team is so bad it's like an expansion franchise right now. Good luck to whatever GM comes aboard. I'd say this team won't sniff .500 for five years minimum prolly longer.

Reinsdorf considers moving White Sox out of Guaranteed Rate Field or selling team
That says so much. Pitcher says to himself, 'Worst lineup I've ever faced. I'll just extend the arm and throw fastballs.'

Hey, there's also a game tonight gamethread. Mariners @ White Sox 7:10
Season from hell continues. Pedro must be so proud of the effort his guys give.

Reinsdorf considers moving White Sox out of Guaranteed Rate Field or selling team
It's tough to be so negative. But our team is so bad. Manager. Players. Front office. Only 1 or 2 players worth following. Ugh.
-
8/21- Sox vs Mariners, 7:10, FS1
Nice job Pedro. You've done so well with this team. Nice job, Hahn. You have rocks for brains IMO, trading the only player we truly enjoy watching (albeit it is annoying when he strikes out). OK, Robert is pretty likeable.

Reinsdorf considers moving White Sox out of Guaranteed Rate Field or selling team
You make some good points. I don't think fans will mind the dome. They realize it HAS to be indoor baseball. nobody wants to sit in 100 degree temps. So they'll accept the dome. I will say I've been to minor league games at the old Cashman Field before they built a new one. About 9;30 p.m. near the end of the game it'd be very pleasant. Vegas being Vegas maybe they could have 9 p.m. starts and make it a thing. That way no dome.

Lori gets the blame for the Bears. Nothing to do with Johnson. At least that's my take.

Reinsdorf considers moving White Sox out of Guaranteed Rate Field or selling team
First a lighthearted reaction then my anger. ... How bout we turn G Rate Field into a soccer stadium? I hate soccer but it's very popular now and get a good team and I bet they'd draw 30,000 a night. Refigure G Rate. Keep some Sox stuff around on the facade. Meanwhile, the Sox share Wrigley with the Cubs! Everybody seemingly loves Wrigley. Remodel it some more. In fact completely switch the inner portions of the stadium to a normal bowl without pillars and Sox and Cubs share the field. I think this is genius personally. Sox fans only go to Sox games; let the Cubs have their usual Wrigley sellout crowds and the Sox take what they can get. If they have a good team they'll sell it out. Now for ANGER. Reinsdorf said in the past he used threat of moving as leverage before. So we can't take anything he'll say or do seriously. If he wants to move 'em to Naperville or Arlington, go for it. We know the next Sox park WILL NOT be on 35th and Shields, folks. That ship has sailed. Do I care if the Sox move? Well personally I hardly ever return to the city anymore (for reasons I used to talk about) so selfishly I should not care. Move 'em to Vegas. ... But yeah I guess I want them to stay in Windy City despite my total anger at the state of a once proud, yes proud, franchise. This season was an absolute atrocity, a disgrace, a total flop. I'm sick to my stomach over this White Sox franchise. Disgusting team that has no clue how to build a roster in this new-age of baseball. No pitching and no lift and pulling cept for Robert.
