The press conference thread
That's just absurd to not take questions. That tells the world it's a negative day in Sox history. At least be proud of the hire and the GM should be a leader and answer questions. What does he have to lose? Answer some questions.

The press conference thread
I don't think Cease and Kopech are very good, but that's just me.

JR Speaks (gasp!)...
Did anybody throw in a question to JR about his maybe wanting a new stadium? Seems like one of those coulda been thrown in even though it was a GM press conference.

What's Left For Sox Fans?
Yes you can be a sustained loser for a long, long time. Year after year you can be buried by mid May. Hopefully Getz has a clue. He's in charge now and that's different than his role before. What is ridiculous is Jerry saying he didn't want to waste a year hiring somebody from another organization. That's about the dumbest statement ever. What??? This is not a one-year fix. Tony was a miracle worker getting the guys to play .500 ball all last year. Now this next rebuild could really be ugly. Not sure why anybody would go to a game next season but to each his/her own. like i said before, hunt for free tickets if you need to get to a game or two for the corned beef, pizza, brats, whatever. Yes GRate Field has marvelous food I'm told. Why didn't Jerry beg Dombrowski to come back? He coulda retired after fixing the White Sox.

It’s official - Getz named SVP & GM
If Jerry truly means it's Getz's call on Pedro, prove you are worth something Getz, and fire him now. Do something fun like let Ozzie run the team the final month. Re. Getz. Is he truly some special kind of leader/person? We all know he stunk as a baseball player at least MLB player. If Getz is special, fricking get to work and start figuring out ways to rid the team of the dead weight like Moncada and TA and Grandal. Also get rid of either Eloy or Vaughn. With the saved cash identify and sign some ballplayers. It's ridiculous Jerry said he wanted Getz cause he didn't want another person to take a year to get acclimated. So stupid cause sadly this is not a one-year fix. And to all the LaRussa haters ... he at least got these bums to play .500 ball. .500 now seems many years away!

What's Left For Sox Fans?
I'm seriously considering adopting another team (to go with my inability to totally divorce the Sox). I'm thinking maybe Baltimore believe it or not. Young team took its lumps forever. Or maybe the Phils cause of Dombroski who should still be with the Sox. I'm also thinking of taking up golf again. Played a ton then gave it up. I think I could enjoy it if I don't keep score.

What's Left For Sox Fans?
True. There's absolutely no reason for any Sox fan to purchase season tickets for next season. The club has too many holes to reach mediocrity. Until the team is .500 caliber just do not consider attending a game. If you have to see an MLB game go to a Cubs game for grins. Mock the Cubs while you are there if you must but don't spend a penny on the Sox. I mean if we had a few likeable players I could see attending a game or two. But until they get rid of TA and Moncada and acquire some guys who want to win, and until they get rid of Pedro who is a joke, just do not go to games! Or if you have to go, ask around and get a free ticket from somebody dumb enough to have tickets. If the rebuild works you probably could pay for a ticket 'maybe' in 2027.

That actually is a great point. The hats and the traditional Sox logo are firmly the best in sports. No doubt about that.

Looking for any positives
I long ago gave up on Moncada. That ship has sailed. If you are right and he will hit great from now on since he's healthy, then he could mabe someday change my mind. But he's an unlikeable player that is for sure. I'd get rid of Moncada and TA and start from there this offseason. And of course showing Grandal the door.

Looking for any positives
Yeah we are on the same page. It has to infuriate you what's happened to starting pitching. Five innings then start the parade of (mostly horrific) relievers. I think baseball should get rid of some teams. Product is diluted. Like I've said before, good luck to any of these current players sniffing the Hall of Fame. No pitchers will be getting in for sure down the line. I guess a few hitters will get in if they hit enough homers.

Looking for any positives
This has nothing to do with u, u are a good poster. just my general snark. Why mention RBIs? That's a stat I thought didn't matter anymore in the moneyball age. Abreu's RBIs always meant nothing I thought.

8/30 GAMETHREAD Gibson v. Cease
I could say the same about Vaughn. He's having a quiet, 'decent' year. Sort of. I thought the Sox would have a lot of games like today in the preseason. Lineup on paper indicated they might hit more than occasionally.

8/29 White Sox at Orioles. 6:05, NBCSN/WMVP1000
I was in my car when it was 1-1. I listened as the Sox got boatraced late. The Orioles announcers were talking about how relentless an offensive attack they have. Then they mentioned 3 stud hitters in the minors who will be ready soon. The announcer said, 'It's good to be an Orioles fan right now.' Meanwhile on the south side ... lol. Pathetic non competitive team with nothing to look forward to. Congrats Jerry. Your team went from the top in 05 to this. Possibly the worst franchise and worse outlook in all of baseball.

Reinsdorf considers moving White Sox out of Guaranteed Rate Field or selling team
No way in the world MLB will let Chicago have an expansion team. If we lose the Sox, it's Cubs forever. Chicago has been lucky to have two teams. Isn't projected population in Chicago/Illinois on a fast decline cause of taxes and other reasons? No way in heck we get another team. If Jerry were younger I betcha this time he's off to the suburbs following the Bears' lead. Even Jerry must know a stadium near the United Center part of town is ridiculous idea. Soldiers Field sounds OK but also would be doomed to failure imo. .. Since Jerry is old I say he either heads out to Bears-land in Arlington or moves team if he can't get a good deal. No more 35th and Shields; no more Chicago.

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
Maybe they will go to openers like I suggested. Don't need "starters" anymore. That said ... if the Sox truly wanted to rebuild, they'd claim some of these guys on waivers and acquire them. Clevenger is actually their best pitcher. Weird they want to dump him if they have any desire to win more than 50 games next season.

Update: 3 (2) fans injured by bullet in Guaranteed Rate field (split from game thread, police investigation underway)
Are the Sox really the worst? Yikes. I remember when I was an older teen I had a friend who worked for the Sox and he told me about the basement level where they 'allegedly' would rough up or threaten to rough up fans if they did something outrageous during a drunken stupor during the game. ... on a positive not, one time my gramps fell and was bleeding and had to go to the hospital to get checked out and the Sox staff was wonderful tending to him, etc.

GT 8/28: SOX @ BAL, 6:05 pm, If a team wins two in a row . . .
a.) I haven't watched a game in a while. That's a first for this lifelong fan. Sox should be worried. If I'm not watching, very very few are watching. b.) As it has been for years. Sox relievers blow chunks so to speak.

GT 8/28: SOX @ BAL, 6:05 pm, If a team wins two in a row . . .
Just go with the 6-man rotation or 7-man where every starter pitches two innings, Let's face it Sox have had no pitchers in the modern era worth a flip after 5 innings max. Kopech can go all out two innings along with the rest of the guys on the "staff" next year. No reason to trot these guys out 5-6 innings when THEY ARE INCAPABLE of 5-6 innings of excellence. Except mabe Clevinger. He's done pretty well. Way better than Cease and Kopech. Cease would be another stellar 2 inning guy. I hate modern baseball but if it's here, it's here. Tell me my idea blows. It does not!

Two hits?? And Kopech puts up a miserable line pitching? Just fire Pedro to make us feel better this week please.

Update: 3 (2) fans injured by bullet in Guaranteed Rate field (split from game thread, police investigation underway)
That's pretty infuriating. Just tell the truth. We all know the ballpark is not in the best neighborhood in the world or surrounded by the best neighborhoods in the world. 35th and Shields may be OK around Bridgeport but it's not exactly nirvana. Why would the fan hide a loaded gun in her fatroll? That's pretty absurd in itself. Of course it might go off.

That's what I was thinking. Entering the stadium will be a hassle big time in future.

Illinois High School Football Thread
Thanks. I would think without major talent they're in trouble vs. Marist. BR might get clubbed pretty good by Marist which has way more students than BR I see. Hard to believe it costs 14,000 to attend BR now. I was checking tuition. If those Mt. Greenwood families are still having 3-4 kids, wow it'd cost a ton to put say two boys thru Rice at the same time. And there aren't many other options around there for decent public schools. Going to Evergreen Park h.s, seems not so good. And Morgan park, forget it.

Reinsdorf considers moving White Sox out of Guaranteed Rate Field or selling team
No offense but isn't the area around the United Center ghastly? Not good. Even though Jerry owns that land, he's a suburban kind of guy. If the team stays in Illinois, it's headed to suburbia baby. I wouldn't be shocked at another Arlington Heights report. I bet u the Bears don't move there after all and it'll be White Sox country. Unless Naperville or Lisle pull it off. isn't the White Sox academy in Lisle? Buy out that golf course and build it all there in Lisle.

Cmon. That is just not true. Read the Patch. it actually covers the southside jackings and robberies.

Reinsdorf considers moving White Sox out of Guaranteed Rate Field or selling team
How come nobody pointed out greg's post a few weeks ago about how I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry talks about moving the team? I think I was the first. I thought I got it right.
