9/4- Sox at Royals, 1:10
Exactly. That's what I was thinking. Like you said "maybe" TA. Robert. That's it. Not one of those horrific pitchers, not one. And no on Eloy and Vaughn who are 'close' to be MLB players. Not Beni. He's blah. That's why I canceled my MLB. There's no way possible to win next year. They'd have to sign at least five free agents and would have to have them be good.

Not really. That's why I stopped my mlb.com for next year renewal. There's nothing they can do trade wise to improve dramatically. People are talking about trading our one or two minor league "studs" for oldster Salvy. Salvy will help but you are looking at blah stats from him the rest of his career. His leadership will help of course. But they've got no reliable starters now that Cease stinks. And the bullpen has to be one of the worst in Sox history. They've got no bats besides Robert. And their defense is blah to bad. Beni is one of their best players. Yikes. All they can do this offseason is see what they can get for Moncada and TA. Big deal. Those will be the big trades. Nobody on here has even produced a feasible "plan" for the offseason. Sox have maybe 3-4 guys other teams would take in a trade off the big league roster. Sox will have about 45 wins max at this stage of the 2024 season.

I just canceled my automatic renewal for mlb.com. Hopefully I can still see highlights of the games next season.

9/4- Sox at Royals, 1:10
Baseball needs to investigate the demise of the White Sox. The White Sox are truly a disgrace to the game. Actually the Royals too. Both teams are utterly disgraceful and are ripping off their fans. For a city the size of Chicago, to have a team this bad, is unacceptable. Look at today's lineup. This team is not better than many minor league teams. The talent level is embarrassing, Baseball would lose nothing if the Sox and Royals were put on probation five years to get their acts together.

Sunday afternoon gamethread Detroit @ Sox
Another embarrassment. Swept by the sub .500 Tigers. Six hits by our anemic lineup. Walks galore from our starting pitcher with the annoying follow thru leg kick.

Saturday night baseball gamethread...anyone?? Detroit @ Sox
Way to ruin the summer White Sox. Team has no talent and no pride. And they get rid 1 of the only 2 players who coulda made September interesting in following their HR totals. Burger probably got traded cause the Sox were embarrassed about their decision to move him to 2B and knew he'd be butchering that position while their guy, Moncada, enjoyed no competition at 3B.

9-0? Hope the fans are booing. Who in their right minds would go to a Det-Chi game at this stage of the season?

Moncada finally admits his preparation needs to change…beginning this offseason (ofc he will be a FA)
Asinine trade. Burger is perfect for new-era baseball. HR or K. Why in the world would the Sox trade Burger??? He was swatting home runs at a strong rate and perfect for GRate Field. I betcha the front office merely wanted to get rid of one of the DH types, just get him out of sight out of mind. Horrible horrible trade. Arguably he was our second best hitter. This in itself should make all fans wonder if it's worth following this wretched organization. Gawd this trade angers me still. He was close to being the first player on this roster that I care about as a fan. He showed signs despite being a horrendous fielder. 30 HRs in 402 at bats!!!! Disgusting.

You mean hung over or hammered? Why would he drink before taking the mound? Seems weird to drink before a game. That's being an alcoholic.

It’s official - Getz named SVP & GM
Considering the sorry state of the team's locker room (hustle on the field is dismal, no TWTW) a signing of Perez shouldn't anger anybody. He's the closest thing to back in the day when the Sox signed Fisk. Grandal was a horrible player for the Sox. He couldn't hit a bit and provided no noticeable leadership. I would say people should not freak if/when Getz acquires Perez. The Sox are in a crisis stage. Normally you don't have to address intangibles, just get the best players. Not now. Sox need a Perez or two willing to speak up. Keep Elvis as a backup and maybe he and Perez can work on the locker room. Maybe give TA some incentives in his contract so he'll hustle more. Or name TA captain or something to wake him up. I think we all should be outraged if Moncada is back, not signing Perez who is needed to help the culture.

I know you said mediocre "at best," but I ask you and any other posters ... what moves could possibly be made to have the Sox play .500 ball next season. I see the team as being even worse than this year's team cause dumping Moncada and TA (though I want them gone) won't necessarily make the team any better than this abomination.

The press conference thread
Yeah it's the dumb Chicago comment of the last many years. I mean my gawd, Sox aren't suddenly going to be a contender next year, even though they play in the sad Central Division. That's what JR thinks by the way. He embraces the weakness of the Central and thinks it won't take long to be atop that division. Sox had a chance to rule the division after 2005. Never happened. Hiring Getz is a huge mistake. Certainly there's somebody in baseball who is excellent who JR could have gotten.
-
The press conference thread
Would the Royals do that to poor Salvy? Geez, Royals. Trade him to the Yankees or Red Sox, not the putrid White Sox. Hopefully for Perez sake he has a say in where he goes.
-
The press conference thread
My bad. Glad he did.

The press conference thread
That's just absurd to not take questions. That tells the world it's a negative day in Sox history. At least be proud of the hire and the GM should be a leader and answer questions. What does he have to lose? Answer some questions.

The press conference thread
I don't think Cease and Kopech are very good, but that's just me.

JR Speaks (gasp!)...
Did anybody throw in a question to JR about his maybe wanting a new stadium? Seems like one of those coulda been thrown in even though it was a GM press conference.

What's Left For Sox Fans?
Yes you can be a sustained loser for a long, long time. Year after year you can be buried by mid May. Hopefully Getz has a clue. He's in charge now and that's different than his role before. What is ridiculous is Jerry saying he didn't want to waste a year hiring somebody from another organization. That's about the dumbest statement ever. What??? This is not a one-year fix. Tony was a miracle worker getting the guys to play .500 ball all last year. Now this next rebuild could really be ugly. Not sure why anybody would go to a game next season but to each his/her own. like i said before, hunt for free tickets if you need to get to a game or two for the corned beef, pizza, brats, whatever. Yes GRate Field has marvelous food I'm told. Why didn't Jerry beg Dombrowski to come back? He coulda retired after fixing the White Sox.

It’s official - Getz named SVP & GM
If Jerry truly means it's Getz's call on Pedro, prove you are worth something Getz, and fire him now. Do something fun like let Ozzie run the team the final month. Re. Getz. Is he truly some special kind of leader/person? We all know he stunk as a baseball player at least MLB player. If Getz is special, fricking get to work and start figuring out ways to rid the team of the dead weight like Moncada and TA and Grandal. Also get rid of either Eloy or Vaughn. With the saved cash identify and sign some ballplayers. It's ridiculous Jerry said he wanted Getz cause he didn't want another person to take a year to get acclimated. So stupid cause sadly this is not a one-year fix. And to all the LaRussa haters ... he at least got these bums to play .500 ball. .500 now seems many years away!

What's Left For Sox Fans?
I'm seriously considering adopting another team (to go with my inability to totally divorce the Sox). I'm thinking maybe Baltimore believe it or not. Young team took its lumps forever. Or maybe the Phils cause of Dombroski who should still be with the Sox. I'm also thinking of taking up golf again. Played a ton then gave it up. I think I could enjoy it if I don't keep score.
-
What's Left For Sox Fans?
True. There's absolutely no reason for any Sox fan to purchase season tickets for next season. The club has too many holes to reach mediocrity. Until the team is .500 caliber just do not consider attending a game. If you have to see an MLB game go to a Cubs game for grins. Mock the Cubs while you are there if you must but don't spend a penny on the Sox. I mean if we had a few likeable players I could see attending a game or two. But until they get rid of TA and Moncada and acquire some guys who want to win, and until they get rid of Pedro who is a joke, just do not go to games! Or if you have to go, ask around and get a free ticket from somebody dumb enough to have tickets. If the rebuild works you probably could pay for a ticket 'maybe' in 2027.

What's Left For Sox Fans?
That actually is a great point. The hats and the traditional Sox logo are firmly the best in sports. No doubt about that.

Looking for any positives
I long ago gave up on Moncada. That ship has sailed. If you are right and he will hit great from now on since he's healthy, then he could mabe someday change my mind. But he's an unlikeable player that is for sure. I'd get rid of Moncada and TA and start from there this offseason. And of course showing Grandal the door.

Looking for any positives
Yeah we are on the same page. It has to infuriate you what's happened to starting pitching. Five innings then start the parade of (mostly horrific) relievers. I think baseball should get rid of some teams. Product is diluted. Like I've said before, good luck to any of these current players sniffing the Hall of Fame. No pitchers will be getting in for sure down the line. I guess a few hitters will get in if they hit enough homers.

This has nothing to do with u, u are a good poster. just my general snark. Why mention RBIs? That's a stat I thought didn't matter anymore in the moneyball age. Abreu's RBIs always meant nothing I thought.
