QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 11:15 PM) Look how many years the Royals could have traded Soria for big value. Sucks to be them. Why does everybody think the Royals should have traded Soria when he was an automatic save machine? Rivera has been closing for 90 years now for the Yankees. Why do teams always have to trade players? It's not like the guys teams receive in return in trades are always worth a damn? So I guess the Sox should have traded Mark last year. It's an epic fail Kenny didn't. But Kenny gets a free pass on that??

What are your feelings on new tagline "Appreciate the Game"?

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Mar 14, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) I like the slogan. ANYTHING would be better than All In, which I thought sounded stupid from the very beginning. Amen. All In was sickening. -
Why the hell did they move him to left? I thought he was doing well in right and had a good arm? If we didn't have the bum, Dunn, we could DH Viciedo the next 15 years (if his age is not a lie) and be done with it.

How's Viciedo hitting this spring? Is he taking any walks? Pounding the ball? Fill those of us in who dont follow spring training closely.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 18, 2012 -> 04:44 AM) I still find it hilarious how everyone is writing the team off based upon spring training. If you want to write the team off, do it because you don't think the team has enough talent. And that is quite likely the case but anything can happen and I certainly don't let spring (unless it is injuries) impact my opinion. I will however say that I like what I've heard from Ventura thus far. I still can't believe what an unprofessional clown Ozzie was. I still can't believe people write sentences like the last sentence of your post. It forces people like me to respond and yet I'm considered the troll. Ozzie was not and is not a clown. He arguably is the best manager in White Sox history. The Sox have replaced him with a guy who has zero experience. Yet he is one of the most noncontroversial individuals in baseball history in terms of the things he says. So he'll be perfect. Perfect as our team gets zero media attention this year. Go Sox. Go Oz!

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 06:35 PM) Buehrle vs Cardinals today: 2.1 inn 6 hits 5 runs 2 bb 2 k 9.95 spring ERA He'll be the same guy in the NL. 30 starts/200 innings/4ish ERA In other words, he'll be great.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 11:57 PM) He's having knee surgery. So, glad he is gone At least Quentin plays hard unlike some members of his former team. Sad he got hurt. Can never fault his effort.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) He turned three DP's ysterday I think and then made an error. He is getting SS down again after being in the OF almost all last year. He will do fine IMO Lilly turned into a good outfielder. He was good out there.
-
AJ in the two hole may work, but I have a sneaky feeling the first time our leadoff man gets on, we'll be seeing the patented 4-6-3 double play to follow. As a hangover from last year's ugh-ball.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 12:03 AM) "Appreciate the Game"...yeah, that will put a lot of fannies in the seats. For what it's worth, Peavy was going a little psycho out there...definitely the right move for Ventura to pull him. He was really jawing with Flowers because apparently Tyler called a 3-2 offspeed pitch and our old friend Brandon Allen (he of the 10+ RBI's this spring already) ripped it for a 2 run single to RF. Of course, why a veteran like Peavy would go with a pitch he didn't feel comfortable with in that situation, I have no idea. But Peavy was audibly yelling at himself...loud enough for everyone in the crowd and the broadcasters to hear. They were a bit surprised he lost his composure so easily during a meaningless spring training game. And at least Morel, and Beckham and Mitchell to a lesser extent, have been hitting well. DeAza, Trayce Thompson and Rios had 2 hits each. Santiago continues to pitch well. Sounds like "appreciate the game" is a message to the players more than the fans. Respect the game by uh, playing hard this year? I think most of us on this board are going to grow very weary of strikeouts and double plays if that is again our offensive ammo this year.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) The one K is very encouraging. But, it's a very small sample size... I like the fact he has one homer in 11 at bats. I'll take any home run stroke from him.

We ought to have a daily Adam Dunn thread commenting on what he does that day in ST for those of us that don't follow ST closely.

QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 11, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) I'm gonna be judging him on the two major faults of the last guy: - Slow Start in April/May (extending back to the Spring Training preparation) - Not getting it up for Division games/Praising the Twins (or other division opponents) too much before starting a series with them Good take IMO. With the Sox's pitching, we still should be able to rule the division except for Detroit. We SHOULD be able to at least split with KC cause their pitching SUCKS. We ought to be able to beat up on Cleveland and Minnie with our veteran talent. That would be a good way to judge Robin, just what you said. We have f***ing Adam Dunn on our team and Rios and Konerko and AJP and Lexi. We have enough veteran everyday players to go with good starting pitching (on paper) to beat everybody not named Detroit in our division.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 10, 2012 -> 09:32 AM) Swung the bat very nicely yesterday as well. Actually made solid contact with 2 strikes, a huge surprise for me. His bat looked a bit quicker and he looked much more confident to me. Beckham and Morel impressed as well, not to mention Rios. If this is an indication of what is to come then this could really be a fun year...we just need to find a way to get someone else in that 2 spot other than AJ, IMO Nice. Any further updates? For some reason I never follow spring training.

How is Dunn hitting so far in ST games? Any bombs?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 10:00 AM) I can't help but disagree here, unless I'm not 100% clear on what this phrase means. Hawk tells it like it is. There's a difference between being a homer and rooting for your team and being a puppet and saying what they want you to say. Hawks is very critical of guys when they struggle. Yes, he roots for them to get out of their slumps and help the team out, but he doesn't sugar coat things all the time. I think that's a common misconception. He's a broadcaster, he can't sit there and rip the organization that is writing his checks. But he sure as hell doesn't sit there and pretend all is well when the team isn't winning. I agree. People that say he tows the company line ... do you listen to other teams' crews? Nobody criticizes the home team nowadays but Hawk and Stoney will blast White Sox players. I commend them.
-
.210 is actually a great over/under standard for him. I'd said he'll hit between .200-.215 with about 20 homers. The crazy thing is given the exact same at bats, Lilly probably would hit 25 or more bombs.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 07:27 PM) As much as I'd like Kenny to keep selling, it seems he's crossing his fingers that this team isn't awful. If things go south he can trade Thornton/Gavin down the line. Good way to put it.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 02:12 AM) My first spring training game ever. Humber pitched well in 2 innings. Addison Reed struck out Matt Kemp in a 1-2-3 inning. He looked good! Beckham made some nice plays at 2nd but looked lost at bat. Alexei was 2-2. Adam Dunn a groundout and a walk. Molina pitched ok for an inning but for his second inning, he had nothing and got rocked. Dan Johnson belted a two-run homer in the ninth off Ryan Tucker. I know it's only spring training but what a bunch of lame-a$$ fans. Does Molina have any velocity at all? The video stuff I've seen of him shows nothing but slow meat.

97 million? Cheapskates. The Sox are bound to make a sizeable profit this season if the team finishes five below or five above .500 wouldn't you say? They should at least have made a strong push for Cespedes (sp).

2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread

Do you guys think Kansas overachieved this year? Do you think the team will flame as a No. 1 seed in the NCAAs? My final four: UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Ohio State -
Jim Cornelison sang the national anthem at Kansas basketball game tonight. WOW! Blackhawk fans must love the anthem.

Picking one I'd probably have to say Dick Allen. He's the reason the Sox didn't move. Only reason to watch the team play. Thank you Dick Allen.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 05:58 PM) It's amazing how you can leave guys off that you remember playing and liked. I liked Ron Hansen a lot as a player, Harold Baines and can't forget Harold Perry- the milkman delivers again. So many good ones How can you put Ron Hansen and not Peters or Horlen? Hansen was a horrible baseball player.
