Sox at Texas series finale May 25 Game Thread
ChiSox_Sonix replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2011 Season in Review
Are you f***ing kidding me Dunn? Geezus christ I've had it with him now. They should have just PH Vizquel at least he would have put it in play. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 25, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) Me too. Team of goons and douchebags. Right...a team with 29 FMs on the year is loaded with goons. Raffi Torres is a punk but that's about it. Their fans are what makes them annoying.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 25, 2011 -> 11:08 AM) I repeat. Game of Thrones is fantastic. 1000% agreed. First couple episodes were tough because the families and relationships were confusing but now it makes more sense. Really curious what is beyond that wall.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 24, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) Tosh! Tosh! Tosh! Boom goes the dynamite web redemption was great. Titties!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) Elvis Andrus has made 10 errors. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 24, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) Andrus has 10 errors this season, 3 less throwing errors over the past 2 seasons and 2 less total errors. Not a big difference there. Didn't bother looking that up. Just seemed Alexei had kind of a lot already considering it's not even June.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) In the discussion and definitively the best are two very different things. Agreed. He's definitely top three. I'd have him behind Andrus as well. Only thing holding Alexei back from being number one to me is the boneheaded errant throws he still seems to make too frequently. He makes some amazing plays, has ridiculous range and has a solid arm but he does already have what 8/9 errors? Too many.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) Hawk much? He's in the discussion.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 24, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) I don't get this sentence at all. Two ROY awards? I didn't think that was possible. Sporting News ROY and MLBPA ROY He didn't win the official award handed out by major league baseball but those two awards are voted on by a panel of players/managers/gms and the MLBPA award is by all current players.. So basically he won two of the ROY awards

QUOTE (zenryan @ May 24, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) I dont mind giving Adu another shot here. Let him get some minutes against Panama and Guadeloupe and see what he can do. Bradley also might be seeing this as an investment. If Adu can play well this tournament, it might get the attention of some other lower level European teams so he wont have such a hard time finding a club for next fall. I think Benfica still owns his rights...they just keep loaning him out every year. He just needs to play somewhere on a consistent basis. He's young enough where he could still develop some but his time and chances are running out.

Really hope The Event gets picked up by another network. Love where the show left off. Easy set up for another season(s).
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 23, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) Adu? Really? Keep in mind he's still only 21. There were other players I would have taken in the midfield over him but as Dan said, there might have been reasons. Freddy's had a good spell at his most recent club and it's still better to give someone like him a shot over someone like Beasley who is probably done with the MNT, at least as far as WC2014 is concerned.

USA names Gold Cup squad Pretty good roster but didn't want to see Kljestan again. Spot should have gone to Torres or Diskerrud. Also Wondolowski up front was surprising. Would rather have seen Davies or Bunbury. Winner secures spot in 2013 Confed Cup so results matter unlike in 2009. Interesting to see if Bradley decides to use Agudelo up front at all with Jozy. He generally shies away from the 2 striker set but with they could work well off each other.

2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread
ChiSox_Sonix replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
SEC/Big East Invitational schedule of games (teams in bold are my early predictions) Thursday, Dec. 1 St. John’s at Kentucky Georgetown at Alabama Providence at South Carolina Mississippi at DePaul Friday, Dec. 2 Vanderbilt at Louisville Florida at Syracuse Cincinnati at Georgia Auburn at Seton Hall Saturday, Dec. 3 Arkansas at Connecticut Pittsburgh at Tennessee West Virginia at Mississippi State LSU at Rutgers Some odd matchups. Would have liked to see UConn get UK or Vandy instead of Arkansas. -
QUOTE (The Baconator @ May 23, 2011 -> 02:57 PM) I was actually wondering about his improved walk rate this morning. I know back in '08 many people accepted that he was just never going to 'learn' how to take a walk, very similar to how people think about Viciedo right now. What has helped Alexei with his patience, and does anyone think Viciedo can make the turn as well? QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 23, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) Viciedo's already showing signs of improving. Years in the states is what has helped him I believe. If you're a ball player playing in Cuba, there's not much incentive to taking a walk. Taking a walk doesn't get you noticed by people that can get you a payday and I think that could be the mindsight a lot of those hitters have. It's just a guess but it makes sense to me at least.

Sox to recognize two studs in Dodger series

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) There was A LOT of Uribe hate on Soxtalk for sure. There was a lot of Garland hate for a while too. -
QUOTE (typewritermender @ May 20, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) Sorry, that's ridiculous. Humber is clearly our 6th starter. He was a fill-in for Peavy, who's back now, and pitching great (granted it's only 2 starts). Who else are we gonna relegate to the pen? Ejax? Danks? We shouldn't keep up a 6-man rotation...that's not allowing our best pitchers enough starts. And we shouldn't trade a good pitcher JUST so that a guy who's been dumped by a bunch of teams and happens to have had a few good starts can be in our rotation. It's always good to have a backup plan. Humber is our backup plan, not the anchor of our rotation. MAYBE if he had a perfect record with a few complete game shutouts. He hasn't been LIGHTS OUT. He's been GOOD. Certainly better than expected. But he's the odd man out. No question. Remember when Loaiza almost won the Cy Young? Did anyone see that coming? Point is, Humber is pitching arguably better than any of our starters right now and it'd be foolish to remove him. The odds he regresses are still ridiculously high, but until he actually starts to show signs of doing so you need to keep running him out there. Because he's currently giving the team a great chance to win almost eveyr time he takes the mound.

Sox to recognize two studs in Dodger series

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 20, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) Check out the subtitle of the thread. I actually didn't notice that. But I still don't get that mindset. These were two players who were here for several seasons and played a big part in our World Series and this is the first time they are returning since leaving the organization. I think it is a classy gesture to give the fans a chance and for the organization to acknowledge them. They did the same thing with Crede and I don't remember seeing any people chastising that (I could be wrong, just going on memory). -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 20, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) Soooo, I went a different direction, I was at game stop and saw Uncharted 2 on sale for 20 bucks and the guy said it was awesome, so I bought that. You'll love it.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ May 20, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) Don't drink until your done with the toast either. Trust me on this. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 20, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) He's probably going to want to have a couple to loosen up. Maybe get a nice little buzz going to help with the awkwardness of speaking publicly. I'm thinking he means during the speech. I'm definitely going to have a few beforehand. My family isn't the issue, but I don't know hers almost at all and they are pretty conservative from what I understand (my family and our friends are not) so that's what has me a little on edge. Anyways, thanks all for the advice.

QUOTE (typewritermender @ May 20, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) Let's just try to dump Pierre+Teahen+Cash on someone for below average OF that can backup a Viciedo/Lilli platoon. I'd take almost anyone. Give them to Philli for Francisco or Mayberry. Just get them off our damn team and let's start the Tank Era already. Also keep all our starters. We should be using Humber in the pen anyway. Then if one of our starters go down we don't have to scramble for a fill-in. Though I WOULD love to see Sale get a spot start or two. Don't think that'll happen though. He's not stretched out, so it's not gonna happen. Only way I could see that happening is if we go like 2-10 over our next 12 and give up on the year. Then Sale would get sent to AAA to get stretched out and maybe be up to make a couple starts in September. That's the only scenario where I think he makes a start in Chicago this year.
