White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
ChiSox_Sonix replied to Chisoxfn's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) Bo Jackson made 1 All-Star game, had 1 100-RBI Season and highest OPS in one season was .866. I don't doubt his athletic ability, but his baseball career was mediocre at best. I agree 100% with your second point though. You know he also played football right? -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 11:02 PM) If Pepsi Throwback is permanent...YES!!! I'm always afraid to pass up a case at the store. A year ago, I stocked up on months worth of cases. Mt. Dew Throwback is good too, but it tastes like Diet Mt. Dew. Heritage Dr. Pepper is good, but only if it's ice cold. QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 11:09 PM) I spent like $25 on it for no reason. lol QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 11:22 PM) Add me to the list of people that are stoked that Throwback Pepsi is on the shelves again. Mexican Coke and seasonally available Kosher Coke used to be the only ways to get a cane sugar cola fix (without shelling out for Boylan's or some other boutique brand cane cola), so the Throwback Pepsi is a welcome addition. Isn't it the same thing just different labeling? I don't get the excitement...

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 10:47 AM) Started reading Brian Greene's The Hidden Reality. Truly intriguing stuff. That actually looks pretty interesting. I'm quite backed up already though in reading material. I bought The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People the other day and am hoping to be able to start that soon.

I saw that coming on HIMYM. Still liked the way they did it though. And can it be completely ruled out that she is not the mother yet?

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 10:47 PM) Man Utd lost for the 1st time all season today to f***ing Wolves. Since Wigan also won, I'm sickened as a West Ham fan right now... And Newcastle came back to draw Arsenal after being down 4-0. First time in EPL history that's happened. Crazy day yesterday.

So Now That Pettitte Is Officially Done...
ChiSox_Sonix replied to chetkincaid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not sure where to ask this because I don't mean to hijack this thread...but now that Pettitte is officially done, is he a hall of famer? -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) Michael Kay (Yankees play-by-play guy) is reporting that Andy Pettitte will retire tommorrow. That's a huge, huge blow for the Yankees. Even with him, their rotation was a question mark, now its that much worse. Let's just hope he doesn't go all Brett Favre on us

Official Recruiting Thread II

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) I can't believe Steward went to Clemson. Even after his decision he said "I'm still a Nole at heart". Um, no, not when you go to a conference rival. In the end, playing time won out for Tony. Still have the #1 class in the country so I'm not gonna complain. -
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Well to be really fair, the white sox would have to develop somebody worthwhile more than once a decade Except he said he was the best SS in the AL many times in 2010 but ok.......Plus isn't it a valid criticism? Alexei's OBP the past three years: .317, .333, .313. Yuck. It's funny nobody can prove that, nor can they give a reason as to why he has a bias, besides of course the "HE WAS THERE FOR THE DAVID WELLS TRADE!!!!1" which isn't true. It's actually been gone over ad nauseum over the past couple of seasons.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) Epic failure by Daley for not shutting down LSD given the warnings. Is this now? The storm mostly bypassed me in NY. Got ice but it was a little south of where it was supposed to be so I made it into work today.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 10:55 AM) Yes without question. Seeing as both may never play for the big club, Escobar would be more valuable in a trade because of the lack of good shortstops in the bigs right now. I can go find a guy who can't field but has power potential. Those guys are in every org. Slick fielding shortstops who can handle the bat in the bigs are not. Funny. I thought I saw Dayan hit a few bombs for the Sox last year. And you're wrong, guys with Viciedo's power potential are not in every organization. Everyone club in the league would inquire about Dayan if we started dangling him. Not so much with Escobar.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 10:41 PM) Charlie Davies might be headed on loan to DC United. That would be a good move for him. He needs to be on a team that will let him play a lot to see if he's still got anything left. And Jozy was transfered to Bursaspor. Obviously they aren't Villareal but he wasn't playing much and Bursaspor are the reigning Turkish League champs and are involved in Euro competitions so they are still a good squad. Hopefully he can get some significant time over there.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 08:26 AM) Sure are a lot of people ignoring the fact that KLaw loved Beckham, and still does for that matter. He also liked Hudson and liked the Dunn signed. And I'm sure everybody in this thread just missed his quote in his latest column regarding Sale and the White Sox: If you all want someplace that will feed you the kool-aid go there. Don't be mad when a writer tells you his actually opinion instead of pandering to the stupid. And likewise, don't be mad when you get called out for being naive and turning a blind eye to the obvious.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 07:52 AM) First I'd like to say that I listen to that podcast every week, it's the best thing going. With that being said, I think KG is valid in putting Escobar over Viciedo. As it's already been said with Escobar, you have a guy who HAS a great glove who won't hit a ton, but still will prevent a ton of runs with his glove. Then on the opposite spectrum you have Viciedo who MIGHT hit 40 homeruns, but comes with a lot of other questions, such as will he walk more than once every other month? Can he play any position on the field? I guess my bias comes down to this: Personally I just don't get the Viciedo hype. Guys who have the same OBP and their batting average need to get really, really, really lucky to sustain valuable production. I saw a few power surges with Tank, but I'm skeptical that he will ever come close to putting up typical big league slugger/no glove numbers that justify trotting him out to a corner OF spot. He's 21 years old and has been out of Cuba for all of 2 years. I don't understand how these facts seem to be lost on so many people.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) Stop crying about it. They don't know how to handle the situation? You know what, I think they're handling it perfectly. They're doing what is best for the team this year with the intention of having him return to starting duties next season. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean they don't know how to handle it. Winner. They are going for it this year and having Sale at the back of the pen puts us in the best position to accomplish that. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 02:01 AM) I thought Chelsea already had enough good strikers in Anelka and Drogba. Yes, but both are getting up there in age and Anelka's production has fallen. They also have Solomon Kalou up front. Somewhat surprising move to me.
-
Very surprising to see him only on a minor league deal. Of course with the state of the Yankees staff he should have a pretty good chance to be on the major league roster I'd imagine.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 05:09 PM) Clearly it was a joke. I'm just not sure how anyone benefited from random shots at Juan Pierre. It wasn't discussed in the thread, it didn't add to the discussion, all it did was piss me off, which is, I'd guess, a portion of the intent. Yes Balta, I came in with the intent to piss you off. It was a joke to J4L since everyone knows how he feels about Pierre. I've been one of the bigger Pierre supporters/defenders here. I really didn't think it was a big deal. -
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 06:42 PM) Michael Bradley joins Aston Villa on loan. The Americans are gaining numbers in the EPL. I'm glad I'll be able to watch him a bit more. Agreed. He was playing a good sized role at Gladbach but he was kind of buried there. Also, Chelsea just paid a s*** ton for Torres, which given his recent injury history is kind of surprising.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) Scroll up about 10 posts. I think it's been coming out of a different point on his body. LOL Make's a little more sense now I guess

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) Was this really necessary? It was a joke and I'm sure he realized that. Maybe I should have used green. Half the posts here the past month have "not been necessary" -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) I wish I could shart. Why?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) Lindy's also picked the Sox to win the Central. I'm pretty much half optimist, half pessimist with this team. I see upside and downside up and down the roster, especially with the every day lineup. I will say I don't think we can win the division without a healthy Peavy, even if it's for half a season, and without big-time bounce-back seasons from Beckham and CQ. Juan Pierre will lead us to the promised land -
I knew 2 other white sox fans in upstate NY. Down in the city you see more people wearing Sox hats but that just might be a product of the "look" of the hat
