QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) There are plenty of arguments to be made for legalization. The costly and inevitable failure of a "drug war" is merely one of them. For something like marijuana, fine, but that's about it.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) Thank goodness drugs are still illegal. This war on drugs is going really well and should end any day now. So that's the argument you're gonna use for why drugs should be legal?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) I'd hate to start the arb clock, but you'd be crazy to not use Flowers. If it was only for a week you might as well just call up Lucy to let Flowers play every day and to avoid the arb clock. He'd only start one game tops anyways.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) I agree with this. Although Kotsay was once an extremely talented player, Wise was always nothing more than a minor league guy Kotsay is still a valuable bench player while Wise is nothing more than a mediocre 5th outfielder at best. However, last year Ozzie put Wise in a position to fail, and as a result he drew such ire from this board throughout the season. Based on the spring training discussions here, I can already see the same thing happening to Kotsay if Ozzie tries using him too much and Kotsay fails to produce better than he realistically should.

Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) If that play is made it is a no hitter but it may have only have been a 19 K performance. Which is better to have a no hitter or a 20 K performance. Wood's performance was more impressive, but as a pitcher I'd rather have my name tied to a perfect game. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) Kotsay shouldn't be starting, but he is not nearly D-Wise bad. It's also beyond his control if Ozzie uses him inappropriately. That was kind of the comparison I was going for there with the Wise situation.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) I am fine with Kotsay as long as he plays the role he is supposed to play. My problem with Linebrink is that he cannot do that with any sort of consistency, and when he goes bad, he goes really bad I'm fine with Kotsay too, but it appears this board has already set up to scapegoat him ala Dwayne Wise already.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) Who is the odds on favorite to be the Soxtalk whipping boy this year? Linebrink looks like he has a big early lead Or Mark Kotsay

AP All-American teams announced 1st Team John Wall DeMarcus Cousins Wesley Johnson Evan Turner Scottie Reynolds 2nd Team James Anderson Sherron Collins Greivis Vasquez Jon Scheyer Da"Sean Butler 3rd Team Greg Monroe Cole Aldrich Damion James Luke Harangody Darington Hobson I would have flipped Reynolds and Anderson and not sure Collins really deserved the 2nd team this year. Would have liked to have seen Jimmer Fredette get some recognition. -

Didn't know where to put this, but there's a potentially interesting situation going on in South Korea right now. Apparently one of their ships is sinking near the NK/SK border and they are investigating whether it could have been torpedoed.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) I hate Paul Hewitt. Georgia Tech has had way too much talent recently to be as poor as they have been. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 08:13 AM) So how come Richard still thinks everyone is dead? After 140 years on the island he flat out told everyone that as he stormed off. I've always wondered in the back of my mind if they were. Thought the same thing. I'm really hoping they are not.

Autistic Teen Picks First Two Rounds Perfectly -
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) Haha, I agree wholeheartedly. And perfectly with my word: IRKED. It's funny. When I saw Dana make that call I was saying to myself "No, don't do it. Don't be the terrorists on the other end...Ugh." I don't hate it hate it, but it's old and boring. It's been used and they didn't need to go there. I really hate her character though so it doesnt bother me as much because it just makes it easier to dislike the character I guess. I've really enjoyed the season so far though so hopefully it continues well despite "new" twist.

QUOTE (11and1 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) OK, so Teahen is a great minor league talent. Go Charlotte! Since I'm only concerned with how he can help the White Sox win in 2010, and since we're discussing his struggles as a member of the Sox, my original observation stands: He will need a career year at the major league level to become an average major league player. That's also why I think we paid too much. As for his upside, I was comparing it to Alex Rios, not Chris Getz. Like Teahen's minor league greatness, how Getz performs is not relevant-- unless we are playing the Royals. Paid too much as in Chris Getz and Josh Fields are so immensely more valuable? And yes, Getz's production would be relevant if you are comparing the "cost" of what it took to obtain Teahen. Every year here, no matter what, like clockwork, someone becomes demonized/idolized based off of 30 ST at bats. Love it.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Your "I'm smarter than everyone else" attitude is getting a little tired. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) aka the Democratic thread...

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) Well, for one the push to 26 helps this. BUT, also there are many things you need to pay for constantly now. Eyes for one. I have contacts, and having to pay about $150 for a years subscription with an eye exam *WITH INSURANCE. If it was out of pocket i have no idea how expensive that would be per year. And with health insurance then Lasik becomes much more affordable. Could I have lived three to four years without health insurance? Yeah, and for the most part I would've been fine. BUt it's always in the back of your mind. And again, to be paying 750 for NOTHING is a big deal. Just a FWIW comment - LASIK is not covered well by most health plans. I have a good one and if I choose LASIK they only cover something like 15%. It's considered elective so most plans (that I know of) don't or won't cover it.

Good article. 2010 is hardly a make or break season for Dayan though.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 10:12 AM) The 2 hour debut of 'Life' on Discovery Channel was pretty awesome. s*** i missed it. Is there a scheduled re-run of it? I don't think Discovery has an on-demand channel.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) The reason I have him at 3B is because I'm not sure who else would start at 3B in Charlotte. Botts is playing mostly LF and Kroeger is mostly playing 1B in ST. I think there is a gray area of who's playing 1B and 3B in Charlotte on purpose so that Chris Chambliss will have the luxury of starting Viciedo either at 3B or 1B on any given day depending on what the Buddy Bell and Kenny Williams want. I could see Danks starting out in B'ham now with Mitchell on the shelf and De Aza playing so well. Do you really think they'd play Botts over De Aza? De Aza is younger and has a better shot of actually contributing to the major league team in some capacity this season.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 03:09 AM) No they aren't. Rely heavily on the play of the three returning guards while playing the same offense and typical three guard lineup? Yeah they are.
