  1. Don't comets eventually crash and burn or fade away? How about something a little more permanent?
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) ...great production out of Uribe and Crede especially. That second name just looks so odd in there in the past, but this year it is becoming what we expect. I'm still confused by this.
  3. QUOTE(Be Good @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) I am expecting it to As long as the offense keeps getting better day by day, then I will be there with ya. But if it starts slipping again, I will sweat a little. Plus, our starting pitching needs to sustain. It's so early, I do expect some rough spots. I am not expecting us to lose the division, but I am going to expect some bumps. It's just natural. Few teams maintain for a full season.
  4. IT'S 1919 ALL OVER AGAIN BABY!!! Oh...wait...ummm...what happened back then??? Oh, ummm... IT'S 1935 (or 1912...take your pick) ALL OVER AGAIN BABY!!!
  5. I'm not expecting this to last all year, but this is one hell of a great feeling to have this early!!!
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) ^^ That's exactly what I think. I really believe he hurt himself over compensating for his knee, but if Detroit could have the option to get out of that contract, you know they would be doing everything they could to do so. Even if they didn't want out of the deal, they would damn well make sure that they had the chance to do so if worst comes to worst. Unless Detroit is also willing to buy time in hopes of some extra healing as they will look like asses to their fans if he doesn't pan out. So in that case, they play along, let Maggs get more rest, and then hope he comes back better.
  7. A hernia can be hard to diagnose according to the articles? Hmmm, everybody I know of who has had a hernia (including myself) went to the doctor knowing full well before hand that they had a hernia. It's usually pretty easy to tell: you hurt and somewhere a part of you is protruding that shouldn't be. My first clue was when jumping jacks hurt like hell, and my belly button disappeared and was replaced by something sticking out that hurt to touch.
  8. Wit beers get the orange, and a Weiss gets a lemon. Oddly enough, they are both virtually the same creature. But the reason for the fruit wedge is also to take some of the bite of the wheat off of the beer. I personally don't like food in my beers, and usually will have the wedges left out of my weiss. Blue Moon = VERY mediocre though. Try a Hoegarrden for a really nice version. Or for a domestic of the style, try and find Bell's Winter White. YUM!
  9. Maybe he just figures by 19 he will be in college and will probably have a fake ID?
  10. I'm an ex-smoker. My buddy and I were pretty pathetic. We used to cut straws to little stubs, place a cig on the end of it, and then stick it in a large cup with a little ice in it, and then smoke in the movie theaters. The ice kept the cup from heating up too much. Heh, we were such rebels.
  11. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) That seems simple but it's not. We are dealing with people here & getting up to tell an usher is likened to ratting someone out. They might not be as friendly to you when you return. That's why I just confront the fan directly. Then again I'm a big guy so I can see where that might not be as effective for smaller people. That's why I think it's better if the ushers are pro-active in curbing this. It's not that hard to see cigar smoke coming from seats in the LD. True, plus you would have to wait until the at-bat was over and by then the cig might be gone.
  12. I do believe that smoking is banned in the seats, and only allowed on the concourse. Next time you have a problem with the one guy smoking in front of you, turn around and look on the concourse, and there you will see a rather large group of people smoking. Tell the usher somebody is smoking, and the usher will have the person move out of the seating area.
  13. QUOTE(marsh @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) When they put in the green seats, they should of had them double as toilets. Even less reason to ever get up! (here come the Wrigley comments )
  14. We'll all agree if we just admit that I am right and all knowing.
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) It suprises me because we as Sox fans take pride in being very knowledgeable. By seeing what I saw on Tuesday night gave me the feel that we are attracting more "Cub fan types". People that are not going primarily to the game to watch the game, but rather to have a good time or party atmosphere. I don't want our park to be full of these "wrigley types". I like the fact that our fans love the game and like to watch the game. What I saw on Tuesday night is something I have not seen before at a Sox game. It was half priced night and maybe that has something to do with it. However, reading all the comments made on this board it seems as though this is the way Sox fans are. It is very disappointing to me. Good Lord people. Do you think the Cubs have NO knowledgable fans? NO serious fans that just want to watch the game? The Cubs attract a MUCH larger fanbase, and many of those people are fly-by-night non-diehard fans. I hate to tell you this, but if the Cubs popularity begins to fade, and the Sox starts to pick up, you will see more of those types of people at The Cell, and fewer of them at Wrigley. There is no real true difference in our true diehard fanbase. We have a-holes in our stands, they have a-holes in their stands. We have smart baseball fans, they have smart baseball fans. This is the type of thing that keeps me in the edge of being too much of a "diehard". This crazy hatred for fans of other teams just because they are fans of other teams. My best friend is a Cubs fan, but inlaws are Cub fans, my boss is a Cub fan. My boss is pretty good with baseball, my father-in-law knows a lot about the game, my mother-in-law doesn't know crap, my buddy is VERY smart about baseball. My wife is a HUGE Sox fan, so is her sister. Neither one knows s*** about the game. They just like to watch it. It's the same at both parks, just one has more of that annoying "Public" at it, but if we win, more of "them" will come with ticket sales.
  16. Of course we are assuming that Maggs will ever play again.
  17. I do ask my kids to wait. I'm just trying to see from a perspective of somebody else. One of the greatest lines ever written in a song: "It's easier to hate than to understand" I just always try to understand from somebody elses aspect. To say you had an "awful time" because somebody was doing something as innocent as getting up to...whatever, is being silly and a little ridiculous. You are asking people to live by your rules, in a public place, where everybody else around you paid the same exact price as you paid to be where you are. I myself have been in situations where a bathroom will NOT wait a few minutes. Yeah, I could wait maybe, but waiting for an at-bat to end can be a VERY long time if the batter is fouling off pitch after pitch and you have a slow working pitcher on the mound. No personal info here, but sometimes, you NEED a facility ASAP. I always try to be respectful of other people, and it doesn't always work both ways, that is life. Am I going to try and find a way of "stoppping" it? No, not at a place like this. To think you can stop it is silly. Just what I am sure the Sox organization wants, a bunch of yahoo's patrolling the stands for them. Maybe we can come up with a new ad slogan! "Leave your f***ing kids at home and stay in your goddamn seats!". Maybe not poetry, but it might work.
  18. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) Can you blame them? And we all wear shirts with "Thomas" on the back. Last time I checked I was a 34 year old, balding white guy who is kind of skinny. Look in our stands, at the people wearing the shirts, hats, and misc. other Sox paraphenalia, and tell me how different we are? Some of us go to Soxfest even. Fandom is fandom.
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) Please don't tell me when to post. I have other things to attend to other than this message board. If you don't know that people have other things going on in their life than this message board then maybe you should get out of the house more often. And maybe you should understand that some people have things going on in their lives that may require them to get up from their seats at a game. I don't think people are doing this with the intent on messing with your enjoyment. And if you know kids, you know that they will "hold it" until they are about to burst. If you don't know a kid, try and remember when you were that age. Even if an usher is up there with his little chainlink fence, what does it matter? "Your" game has already been turned into an "awful" experience because I walked in front of you while trying to stop the a situation that might turn somebody elses experience into an "awful" game. But, then maybe I should just leave my kids at home, since obviously the only people allowed to occupy a White Sox game are the people with scorecards in hand, being ultra-serious about the game (look at that word, lets remember what it is) being played before them. No matter how serious you want the game to be kids, it is still a form of entertainment, and one that is aimed at "families" and is aimed to make room for the casual fans. Maybe we need to make a "geek corner" for all the diehard people to sit and observe. Seriously, and people here make fun of the Star Wars geeks and their anal retentive ways???
  20. This is a silly thread. Are we still, after 9 pages, talking about people walking in the aisle? I understand the smoke. That makes sense. But to still be complaining about the aisles? Sorry folks, I have kids, if my daughter (age 7) has to use the bathroom, YOU can be bothered by my taking her to the facility. I am NOT in the 5th grade anymore, and I do NOT need your approval if I go to the bathroom or not. Sorry. People get up to use the bathroom during movies, but I don't yell at them. If you are a part of a "society" you need to learn to adapt, and understand. Sometimes people need to get up. If it is the same person over and over again, then there is a problem. But if you are complaining about just people in general, maybe you should try living in a cave where nobody will bother you. If my comments have been mentioned, I apologize for being redundant. But this is without a doubt the silliest complaint I have read yet.
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) ....which is exactly why Ozzie should have been. Tell me this, if Ozzie lets those quotes from Maggs just roll off his shoulders, who looks like the stupid, hateful prick? Instead, they both look like catty little girls. Always take the high road and kill em with kindness. It depends. To me, and this is MY OPINION, Maggs looks like the little whiney girl, and Ozzie looks like...Ozzie. I expect nothing less out of him.
  22. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 07:39 AM) I think the choice is obvious. You're for Bevinton also, eh?
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 06:22 AM) And finally, it is really sad when the ex-star Chicago right fielder who we all trashed for being a self-centered egotistical greedy prick, has said less about his old team, than the one we thought was Mr Nice-Guy. Ya know, I was wondering what that other guy has been up to this year, and have to actually take my hat off to Chicago media, as they really have just let him go, and he has done the same. During the Spring Training, there was the bit back and forth, but now that the season has started, he seems to be fully in his new team. Maybe that is Maggs problem. He isn't playing, hasn't played, and probably still feels more a part of the Sox organization than he does the Tigers. He has only been with them for a short time, and has spent almost no time at all playing with the team, in any form. He is a Tiger by contract and check, but not by attachment. I wish he would shut-up, as he was a fave for me his whole time up with the team. I lost a lot of love for him though last year. Now even more. But I also think I know why he keeps on with his comments. He's bored.
  24. QUOTE(da_bears86 @ Apr 7, 2004 -> 05:08 PM) couldnt vote not old enough to know anyone. i only remember jerry i dont remember who was before him You're lucky to not know who Bevington was. Though he had a strange mastery of the bullpen, he just was not very good at...ummm...anything. I'm only 34 (only...?) so I obviously have no real knowledge of Kid Gleason other than what I have read, and from how he was portrayed in Eight Men Out, but my liking of him comes from that stuff. He seemed like such a pure Baseball guy, who really had a strong desire to win, but was dealt a lousy blow. There were a couple of old time managers that I have read about, that I would easily place high on my list. Just because you have never seen them, doesn't mean you can't love them. Heck, there are still people who consider their favorite players to have been people like Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, etc.
