QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 07:27 AM) Hell Cubs fans have nothing to say about corporate names, as Wrigley Field was the orginal corporate named stadium LOL! I thought that as soon as I read that part in his article. Shows what kind of history he knows. Also shows what a TRUE Chicagoan he is to not be able to make the connection between the two. As for his complaint about the ride on the El, I would just like to say that for a guy like me, being from outside of the city, by far the easiest park to get to, and get into, is the one on the South Side. I feel safe leaving my car parked in The Cell lots. At Wrigley, I am trusting some goon to watch my car while I park it under the El tracks some two miles away. Eh, whatever. THIS guy is the perfect example of the Cub fan I don't like. The ones such as my boss I like a lot. Knowledgable, and they follow EVERY team, not just the Cubs. My other boss on the otherhand, not much for knowledge, but he loves the game. Hell, when the Cubs got Madocks back, he was convinced they got the best pitcher in the game, and was sure he would throw better than that guy in Houston who just came back from retirement.

4-5 lbs of butt roast 1 jar of pepperochini's (peppers and juice) 1 pack of dry Italian Salad dreassing shake in some Italian seasonings (the type of thing McCormick or Lawrys makes) 1 can of beef broth Cut roast in cubes, throw everything into crock pot, bring to a boil, as soon as it boils, drop temp to a simmer , and let the badride slow cook for about 4-5 hours. Beef will at that point just fall apart. THIS is the best Italian Beef I have ever had. You folks out of town, give it a whirl, and you will be VERY happy.

I wasn't trying to give an excuse for stuff by saying Sox fans have always been a certain way, but I just find it funny how I will see Sox fans get all bitter about comments made about the rowdiness that is associated, and then open a book written about the Sox in 1906, and you see the exact same things written about Sox fans. As for the "clueless" among us, I think that is throughout Baseball in general. The game doesn't attract the same serious passion it always did in the past. Baseball, up until I am guessing the late 80's (or the strike) was always THE sport in the country. Now it has completely given way to Football, and in this area during the 90's it was all Bulls. But people have lost the seriousness of Baseball, as a whole. IMO. -

Nice post TLAK. I often wonder if many modern fans know about White Sox history. Or if it is that we want to forget what our teams history of fans has been, and the teams history. One thing that does kill me is the reputation us fans have for being "brutes". People seem to think this is a wrong stereotype or a new one. But in reality, you can go all the way back to the teams inception and find that the Southside teams fans have always been rowdy, violent, and downright rough around every single edge there is. The team was always seen in the same light. So this idea that Sox fans are well behaved baseball fans that just want to sit in the stands with scorecards in hand, is actually a relatively new thing to be doing. I am not saying that our fans are not educated baseball fans, but there is a looooonnnnngggg line of history showing that our fans do NOT just sit passivly in the stands. Like it or not, Ozzie is a true classic style of guy for our team. Loud, obnoxious, arrogant, and one hell of a brilliant Baseball mind. -
If the Sox aren't playing at the same time, I will watch that one. If the Sox are playing, I will still check in and out of the game. Two legendary pitchers going to battle? I don't care who the teams are or what allegiance I am supposed to have, I just want to see a great pitched game.
-
Observation: We all talk about how when the Sox start winning, then people will talk about us. But everynight I turn on a National news outlet of any sort, both Boston and the Yankees are the lead stories on the baseball front. Question: If we need to win to get mass coverage, how bad do either of those teams need to become for people to stop talking about them? Or better yet, how mediocre? Obviously a BAD team will also get mass discussion going.
-
It is funny though, as he mentions that a successful manager doesn't do things like this. Well, as of this point in the season I would say Ozzie is pretty darned successful.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) I saw two Zappa Chicago Theater shows during what turned out to be his last tour.
-
Yeah, I seem to remember that. Not as bad as the Faster Pussycat situation at the Metro for the Wake Me... tour. That one was crazy. It took two of my friends to pull this girl off me that night, and these were BIG guys. If that was you Steff, I might have to become a Cubs fan to be sure to never run into you again! Oh, Crit, and I didn't say anything to you because you were creeping me out with your constant drooling and "Marry Me Johnny" sign.
-
Yeah, when Kristy was filling out her schedual at work, she called asking if I wanted to go to Butch. I told her to check to see where the Cubs were at, she said "home, 7:05" and I said "work that night, I'm not going to that show". Problem solved.
-
There might be non-sticker areas, but the Cubs game is at 7:05 that night, and I am sure there will be more people there than at Butch, so I am expecting parking to be a REAL joy that night. Seminary used to be the main road to park on way back in the day. Now I think that is the only one to park on (last time I checked), and those spots fill up pretty dang fast, especially with that team of goons playing that night.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) The Riviera is a cool venue, too! Best show I saw there? Damn, that's a tough call. My top three would be: Replacements - very drunk, very cool, tons of fun! Public Image Ltd. - I was able to get about 20 feet away from John Lydon, who was one of my earliest rock idols. Dinosaur Jr. - The LOUDEST drums I've ever heard! We were halfway up the balcony and the snare drum sounded like an M-80! BANG! BANG! BANG! Plus, I love J Mascis' squealing guitar solos - I'm happy they're reforming, but bummed that the only place so far to see them is Lollapalooza, which I won't be attending. I like club shows, I hate festivals. Hey, which PiL tour was it you saw there? I saw them once at the Riv. I think it was the Happy tour. Probably around '89 or so. I was right up front at that one, being mauled by some crazy girl.

QUOTE(Carlo Paz @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 05:52 AM) Fifth inning. Time to swing! When did Owen Wilson start playing Baseball???

Welp...this answers my Butch Walker debate. Heck, the Cubs being in town that night did that for me.

Sorry to read this man. I stood in my kitchen last night, holding my phone in hand, and planning to call one of my old best friends. I was the bestman at his first wedding, and haven't spoken to him for years. Everytime I would call him he would more or less blow me off, and eventually never returned my calls. I never did anything wrong, I just think he got tired of the type of person I was (am?), and decided I wasn't the type of person he wanted to be around. Nothing I did wrong, just the clash of personalities. My best man, and my daughters Godfather, I also haven't spoken to for about a year plus. I have no idea where he is now, but I know he is always there for me if I need him. He is one of those crazy friendships where nothing will get in the way. Old bandmate, and all around brother. My alter-ego. But I wouldn't beat yourself up too much over what happened to your friendship. It may have just been one of those things that neither did anything wrong. It was just time and a change of personalities. Hang on to what you had, and love the person you were buds with.

I finally understand the name of Chris Kattan, and why he did that damned "Mr. Peepers" character.

I'm curious as to who the opener was. Love The Vic. I used to run lights for bands, and I got on pretty well with the light guy at the Vic. I would show up with the bands I worked with, climb up into the lights booth (which you can see if you look UP and to the right), and just hang with him and his girlfriend for the whole show. One of the nicest guys I ever met. You really get a great perspective of things from way up there in a club like the Vic. Best light system I ever used also.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) Personally I love Blue Moon, outside of a real Canadian beer, it is my favorite. But I want to know where the heck I would find one of these beers? I live in a town of 30,000 people so there isn't a lot of variety... Some of what beers? The Hoegarrden and Bells? Find a good liquor store, and they should have both. Especially since Bells is a Kalamazoo product, you should be able to find it almost anywhere. But you just need a decent store and some people who know good beer (fine beer, the fancy stuff), and I know of two of us in particular on this site, or you can explore: www.beeradvocate.com Though Beer Advocate is FULL of snobs. But the reviews are much more accurate than those at: www.ratebeer.com O.K., off topic, sorry. But it is a silly thread.
