They do a lot of matchup targeting as it is, but it can snowball when someone gets into unexpected trouble. Like if Grant Taylor has a cleaner inning tonight, the pockets fall differently for the rest of the game. Instead Hudson had to come in early for Manzardo with RISP in the 7th after Taylor gave up the lead. Since that's an extra up/down already, they can't use Hudson to face Bazzana leading off the 9th...who only gets another AB at all because Taylor faced 7 batters instead of the 3-4 they would have planned for. With Newcomb down, they don't have the depth for a surprise extra trip through the top of the order LHB. Cap tip to Murphy for at least limiting the damage to enable the walkoff in regulation, but they need to fill the hole in the rotation in addition to any BP moves they make.

Cade Smith has allowed 2+ ER only twice this season: to the Dodgers all the way back in March, and to the home warrior White Sox tonight. Tonight was his first loss of the season. Cleveland also reshuffled their rotation for this matchup, so it's especially nice to get the W. The Sox were 4-11 with RISP today after going 1-14 in the entire Detroit series. Kay was very good and deserved a win. Still, they have won his last 7 starts at home. Like most of the team, he likes playing at the Rate. 25 home wins is tied for second most in MLB with the Brewers (LAD/TBR have 26). Sam joins the list of Sox to get their first career walkoff this season. All 3 rookie OFs were productive tonight, great to see.

Midseason stateside promotions are incredibly rare, and when they do happen it's usually someone in their second DSL season already. Visa processing makes it complicated, in addition to some tax rule I think?

The Sox even cover ump hot/cold zones in their game prep, they look more for challenges in certain spots based on ump tendencies.

He's one of those guys who regularly looks a little uncomfortable out there even when pitching well.

One interesting thing to keep an eye on with Teel other than his will be his bat speed. Vargas' flashed his big bat speed increase in ST and it successfully carried over to the regular season. Teel recorded some of the best bat speed on the team in ST (after being among the slowest last season), so I'm curious to see if his gains stick too. Not sure how/if they could have been affected by his injuries though.

Their June "starter" splits will be messy because of how much they've used openers these past couple weeks. For example, that 7.88 ERA will include Eisert getting lit up for an inning, but not Burke shutting down the Yanks for 7+. Martin, Kay, Fedde, Burke are at a combined 5.32 this month which is higher than you want but not ridiculous given the competition. The offense felt like more of an issue than the rotation in Detroit, even the bullpen game was winnable if they could hit with RISP on the road.

He's looked mostly fine to me, though I haven't watched WS as closely lately. Nothing wildly impressive, but also nothing that screams an imminent move. Scouting reports had him as athletic enough to potentially play OF, and I've seen him look okay in LF in a couple games where he didn't face many tough chances. He did hit another 2 HR today and leads the SAL in SLG, so hopefully the bat plays either way.

I think you misunderstood my point? People can use or ignore whatever stats they want, I was only complaining about inconsistency. For example, if someone previously used FIP to support Grant Taylor being great but unlucky, then it would be inconsistent for them to later call a different low FIP pitcher terrible garbage for getting similarly BABIP'd. I didn't cite Acuna's June OPS here while previously disregarding the relevance of recent performance for a different player elsewhere... I just pointed out that he's been good in June, to the point where his OPS leads the team in this stretch. His season stats being bad don't change that, though I never said they didn't count. If anything, they make it easier for the hot hitting to go unnoticed, which is why I thought it was relevant context. I assumed most people wouldn't guess he's been the hottest Sox in June. But I didn't use it to make to any larger case for or against anything, so I'm not sure what "narrative" you're reading into it. My apologies that it came across to you as too snarky though. (And to address your second question anyway...Most surface batting stats don't start to stabilize until a 200+ PA sample, so statistically his first 100 ABs actually aren't particularly likely to be any more predictive. Similar is true for pitchers and rate stats. Everything "counts" but without enough sample size meaning can be limited.)
