  1. just my opinions. I think it's demoralizing to everyone, team and fanbase, if he doesn't get the job. I feel like he earned it simply by playing his way into his prospect status and already having done a year at Charlotte. You shouldn't make him start the year in Charlotte (though the weather is probably better). The team is bad anyway, he can learn against MLB pitching with the revamped MLB coaching staff. to your second point, I'm exaggerating, just talking about all the pitcher signings. yeah that's largely my point but I don't know why that's the classic Rick Hahn thing. you can't say Colson is being rushed. He's been around a long time. I don't know that he clearly needs more time in the minors, I know he has to improve, but why will he improve in Charlotte but not Chicago? you can always send him down. are we trying to win games? don't you want to go to opening day and see Colson and not, I dunno, some guy? if so, why isn't that guy ha-seong kim? edit: actually I feel like the classic Rick Hahn move would be to ignore the human element entirely. that guy's a robot.
  2. It's Colson and it's not up for debate. Is he good enough? I dunno, unlikely. Did he earn it? Absolutely he did. You're stunting his development by not making him the opening day SS. You're giving a middle finger to every prospect in the system (they're already doing that to the pitchers). This is the worst team of all time, right, and you have a "shortstop" who a lot of people consider to be one of the top young players yet to play in the MLB...so why would you play "some guy" over him? To help him develop? He doesn't need any more time in the minors. He was Rule 5 eligible, that's a sign it's time to join the major league roster. Starting him in Charlotte is just a vibe killer for the entire organization.
  3. Sorry I meant last season with the Marlins after leaving the Sox. I actually forgot he signed with the Angels!
  4. Tim signed for $5m right? Moncada is potentially worth much more than $5m, but realistically is likely a minor league player. I hope he stays healthy and plays well, overperforms that deal, i think he’s a guy you want to see succeed. But the probability of that seems….unlikely
  5. I love how they picked the most unflattering picture of the mayor they could find. nipples protruding in his rays jersey, very disrespectful.
  6. Anyone just think about all these other sites over the city that are supposedly these wonderful opportunities for a megadevelopment? Old US steel site. South Deering. Lincoln Yards. Feel like I’m forgetting some. Only no one is interested. Related Morons keep blowing it. Sterling Bae. The City of Chicago. You know what’s a great site for development? 35th and Shields. Great transit connections. Median household income increasing rapidly nearby. Adjacent to one of the most important central business districts in the hemisphere. The developer could even get a bunch of state and city grants to build there. They already have a ballpark there, even! 🤑 Something I love about JR is how bad he is at making money. The nerd had one good idea.
  7. Me too. Am I expected to watch the NBA? Pirated winter league games have been fun.
  8. I voted Dodgers but it's Los Angeles teams and LA sports fans generally. Bring USC fans into it too. I'm not so crazy about CSU Northridge either. Don't even talk to me about Pierce College athletics. I can't hate the Chiefs, they're still a Midwestern, small market dominating the league. You kinda like to see it. The 'sportwashing' thing is probably the correct vote but it isn't just the Saudis, it's people like Henry and Rubenstein and Cohen and Ricketts too. Money in sport has always been a problem to me but now the sheer amount of it stands to destroy professional sports.
  9. Gonna miss Zach. I almost thought we got De'Aaron Fox back. That guy is dope. I would go to games. This trade is awesome for the Spurs. The Bulls are such a sorry franchise that I don't even care anymore. We got some guys. The "pick back" shouldn't count, it's AK "reversing" a failure. He needs to be out of a job. Maybe Zach and DeRozan can cook up some magic, plus all those picks.
  10. It's just like incredibly stupid GM logic. Pseudo Getz would do this deal. And I like AD. Is there an MLB equivalent? "Hey, we really like Bryce Harper, let's trade you Bobby Witt Jr." Except Bryce is better than AD. You trade a superstar in his prime for an old guy and no picks....it makes no sense to me. You want to pair the old flat earther with another old guy? Why? People are telling me Luka is an alcoholic. Whatever. He's great at basketball. It's such a bizarre trade.
  11. What in the fuckin world? I woke up at like 3am and looked at my phone and saw this business. Absolutely nasty. What? Why? I'm not going back to sleep. This is absurd. I need to talk s%*# on the internet. At least it's Sunday. Nothing about this deal makes sense for the Mavs...you trade a young superstar under contract for an old, injury prone guy? I really like AD. He's a Chicago guy that I think should've been a Bull. Mavs didn't even get picks. AD is a stud but injury-prone and over 30. Luka is a star, 25-years-old, he's gonna be great for a long time. It's BS man.
  12. Boy that draft really was terrible. Bohm probably was the best player selected in the first round. It would be McClanahan but are we considering comp picks as first rounders?
  13. Tim is always a thoughtful guy. I appreciate the quotes you shared, I’ll read the full article later on. But I’m really rooting for him. I’m skeptical of the profile, babip merchant that can’t play d, but I’m always rooting for him.
  14. He's not 30% of the cap good is the problem. Fortunately, I don't think he's a negative value contract anymore like he has been since he signed the extension. Zach with two years left on his deal, and after having this nice season (if it continues and he remains healthy), I think is pretty easy to trade even if he's owed $100mil. They have to trade him, they can't roll with him. They screwed up too much everywhere else on the roster. Now you're almost wondering about what you need to add to get rid of Pat Williams's contract. Or the absurd extension they'll almost certainly give Giddey. Everything said about Getz is true of Karnisovas. This is the biggest idiot in professional sports.
  15. I think even if he's a 2.5 WAR, .700 OPS, good defense up the middle kinda player, I would've thought he's getting a better deal than Benintendi got. Kim could be our shortstop for the next 5 years and I'd be pretty happy about it. Maybe teams saw what you say about the injury.
  16. That’s a steal of a deal. I can’t believe he didn’t get paid more. He should be a White Sox for that price.
  17. It’s now an “own” but it’s a good point. I would only push back on his point to say that the existential misery of the Chicago sport fan is part of what makes the fandom fun. And Cubs fans are idiots.
  18. I think it was plausible that the team last year could’ve been better than the previous season. It was one possible outcome. I guess it was predicated on Robert, moncada, Benintendi, Eloy, etc. staying healthy and playing to their potential. And Vaughn, Ramos, Sosa, whoever taking a step forward. Which obviously didn’t happen. But it wouldn’t have necessarily been wild if Eloy/Moncada were 3WAR players. I mean I admittedly expected better and was bamboozled. But also not surprised or particularly disappointed.
  19. Good observation. I do think ichiro is overrated though. The fact that him and Mariano are the two top vote getters is telling. I’m not sure what it tells, but it doesn’t have to do with baseball ability.
  20. Daytime Emmy kinda post. I think it’s a good one. But you sure committed to the theoretical quote.
  21. The formatting is indeed challenging. Speaking of repeating things we just saw on tv, apparently they arrested some teens for killing a coyote in mt greenwood. I’m not sure what to make of this story.
  22. Supposedly minor leaguers joined MLBPA in 2022 rather than forming their own. They ratified their own CBA a year later and I assumed they were under some weird umbrella like UAW. I don’t have any idea how the inclusion of minor leaguers impacts collective bargaining at the major league level. I imagine it might.
  23. I was laughing at O's fans for being optimistic about this guy. you can go down to Hyde Park and see the role this dunce has played in 'overhauling' the neighborhood. Fewer bizarre bookstores and sex shops, more chipotles and capital one cafes (this is a real thing). more weird, post-modern architecture. more security guards running stop signs and playing loud music outside my house at 2am. The baseball team is an investment for him and nothing more. Well it's a little more, it's an ego-stroking venture as well. Check the bobblehead. This is an interesting 'labor' dispute because the players could theoretically get a lot more out of arbitration in exchange. Or reach free agency sooner. Reaching free agency sooner seems like something a majority of players would like and would earn more money from. I believe MILB and MLB players have different unions otherwise I think this is a much easier negotiation. Minor league wages, even after the raise they got, are pretty pathetic. Minor League baseball is the lifeblood of Major League baseball, baseball is a wholly different sport without the minor leagues, they should pay the guys a little more. Especially the guys who will never sniff the majors, they're playing an important role for the sport. I reckon Dominican 15-year-olds don't have a union because they'd probably have some things to ask for too.
  24. if I was a degenerate, I would bet all the money I have (about 200 bucks) on Colson being the opening day SS. He just will be. It isn't for baseball reasons.
  25. Rocky Marciano played for the Sox?
