  1. I think the players would have to actually care if they win or lose for something like that to happen. I dunno, I can't blame Grifol for our first baseman hitting .200 with no homers. I give him a little credit for playing Shewmake and Sosa.
  2. He has been incredible, so far he's exceeded my expectations that were already pretty lofty. I'm just waiting to get burned because it seems inevitable: Sox fans aren't allowed to have nice things. Though I think the lesson I'm learning is to stop watching these games after the 6th inning. And that maybe Deivi isn't as good as I thought he was.
  3. I think my expectations for Crochet are getting too high. 5 IP, 5 Ks, 0 BB, 2 ER is a very good outing but his weakest so far. Across three starts, he's given up 4 runs in 18 innings which is pretty incredible (2 ERA). I think I'm most impressed that he's only walked one guy (to 21 K's).
  4. it's so funny how aggressively everybody is running on balls hit to Benintendi. their back up catcher legged out a double that probably should've been a single, Benny doesn't even throw to second.
  5. nice idea moving Benintendi down in the lineup. bad idea putting him 5th. this guy can't be trusted with runners in scoring position. edit: oh look he struck out
  6. I like how Sheets and Moncada hit the ball to the exact same spot yet Sheets is the one to come away with 2 bases. Should be 1-0.
  7. I just turned the game on to see Fletcher "oops" a flyout into a home run. why do I watch this team
  8. thank god, somebody has to protect Gavin's big bat.
  9. Hopefully Pillar, Grossman can actually hit. Who’s supposed to start in CF tonight? Don’t tell me it’s Pillar.
  10. oh, I thought that was just good practice, didn't know it was an actual rule. Anyway, you may be right, it just seems to me that at this stage of a rebuild, you'd want to take flyers on young players who might show something rather than jettison them. He had a weak first half at AA last year but finished strong, I just think there was time left for him to compete for a spot on the major league team at a position we desperately need to fill
  11. Thus far he has a 12 ERA so I’m not sure he’s helping much in that regard. Popeye’s trajectory almost certainly puts him on pace for the major leagues. He crushed rookie league as an 18-year-old, A* as a 20-year-old, then finally figured out AA at 22. He’s not ready yet but I don’t think there’s any expectation that he would be until 2026 at the earliest. It’s absurd that he was on the 40-man roster to begin with, I suppose when they were shuffling him around between charlotte and Chicago for a week last season for no reason. Or was that Sosa? Roster mismanagement for sure but I wouldn’t compound that by trashing prospects for nothing. Also of the opinion that major league teams only need 7 out of the bullpen and would benefit from an extra bat, so Leone’s slot could literally be replaced by star pitcher Danny Mendick and the team would be no worse off for it.
  12. I think there's some situations where you might prefer the 30-something reliever to the 22-year-old infield prospect, ie if you're planning on competing immediately and you have a competent second baseman somewhere in the system; but the Sox aren't in that situation (the Phillies are in a position to win and are rostering him though, take that for what its worth). In fact the Sox haven't had a second baseman in over a decade and s%*#-canned the one who has blazed through the minors and hit 21 homers last year. Popeye was making it look like the Sox could actually develop a Dominican teenager and so it just strange to see them completely give up on him as soon as he starts showing flashes as a major leaguer. Does Dominic Leone help the Sox win games this year more than Popeye would help the team win down the line? I don't think so and I don't think it matters because the team is a dumpster fire anyway because it doesn't have any position players.
  13. I'm watching the replay of this game and it felt worth mentioning that Salvador Perez tagged up from second to third on Benintendi. What?
  14. Has anyone mentioned that Clev is buds with a Sox minority owner? Never heard of this Ben Pogofsky character, but seems to be the failson of Larry Pogofsky who sat on the Board of Directors from 1981 until his death in 2010. This guy is notable for trying to steal a collection of autographed baseballs that were willed to his brother. What a bunch of winners we've got running this team
  15. It's just baffling. Couldn't DFA one of the 30 useless relievers on this team? Maybe he's a slimeball or something, he didn't last very long in spring training, but aren't they filling his slot with a confirmed slimeball? Same as Mena, I can't understand the logic behind trading talented young players for old guys who demonstrably suck and serve no purpose. I'm no wunderkind baseball mind like Chris Getz is, but that sounds like the opposite of what a baseball team should do.
  16. Popeye was DFA'd too for some reason. I didn't even realize he was on the roster. He's also a good player, 22-years-old, who was cut for Mike Clevinger. A terrible decision to compound an even stupider decision. I was really trying to be 'glass half full' about this season but they're making it very hard.
  17. The Pistons have whiffed on every high pick they've had outside of the 2012 draft, it isn't just Darko. They should have Booker and Giannis on their team. Ironically, the front office that drafted Darko actually knew what it was doing; they won the finals that year, lost in the finals the next year, and went to the conference finals the following three years. Darko probably would've been the right pick if he actually cared about basketball, he was incredibly talented. Anyway, I guess that's all beside the point but I can't imagine what this team is accomplishing if Soler and Canha are on the roster. I know it's not my money, but it still seems like a waste of it. My hope is that the money saved this year is reinvested when the team is actually ready to compete, hopefully next season but realistically 2026. Say what you will about JR, but there seems to be a track record of that sort of thing happening. I co-sign your sentiments about Fletcher, I wouldn't have traded for him, I just also wouldn't replace him with a 30something free agent in a dead year. I probably would've picked the guy who's already on the team making no money, is 25-years-old, and is incredibly talented (Oscar Colás).
  18. Big fan of Burger and have watched a bunch of Marlins games this past week for his sake. Still, if Eder hits, I'd rather have him on the Sox than Max Muncy 2.0. Burger's production is easier to replace than a potential ace with full team control. Still, Eder has to perform and he's running out of time to prove he's a Major League baseball player. it was a high risk/reward trade that might fizzle out, but there are several guys in the minors ready to take Burger's spot and no one who can do what Eder might be able to do.
  19. I went to eat dinner and it was 2-1. what the f*** happened
  20. that was the most annoying home run trot I've ever watched
  21. he's performed as well as I would've expected so far and is doing what he was tasked to do: generate weak contact and grounders. I think he'll start hitting his spots better over time. Whether or not that's a sustainable recipe for success is debatable but I can't quibble too much with the pitching/defense thus far.
  22. The Royals broadcast is funny. They're just talking about all the guys on the Sox who used to play for them
  23. the saving grace is that somebody has to get on base first in order to GIDP.
