Such requests can only be made to players with five or more years of major-league service. If the player agrees, the club can terminate his contract during the 45-day window for any reason except injury, and pay him only for the amount of time he spent on the roster. Veterans who provide advance consent generally lack leverage.” It would make sense that they cut McGuire now if the clause was included when they signed him because it has been around 35 days since he was signed on March 22nd.

Vlad Jr. peaked at around 6 WAR and signed his $500 million deal last year.
