Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
0.6 accumulative bWAR over 3 seasons at $15 million per year and $75 million total IS terrible.

Robert Thread: Sox talking to Reds, Mets
Aren’t the Padres dumping salary? Why would they want Robert?

White Sox sign Anthony Kay to 2Y/12M deal
Not that mutual options ever get picked up, but isn’t that part updated details for the signing?
-
Pete Fairbanks?
It’s a good thing. But winding up with Anthony Kay and rumored interest in Patrick Wisdom as a result is not very exciting.

Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
Yes, looks like his name is Jake on MLB.com.

Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
Agreed. Historically, he hasn’t been able to hit much and he’s turning 30 next summer. Besides, don’t we have Getz’s CF prospect acquisition Samuel Zavala ready to take over CF soon?

I’m sure you know what I meant. Rinse and repeat.

Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
I feel like I’ve read this same article in each of the past three offseasons now. And I am sure I will read it again a couple more offseason until Ishbia takes over.

Pete Fairbanks?
I can’t imagine another team not offering him the same money or more than the Sox, and why he would want to come here anyways unless the Sox have the highest offer?

MLBTR Offseason Outlook on White Sox
Jerry said that the 2023 season was personally embarrassing for him so he hired Getz to bring the Sox back to respectability and winning without wasting a year. Getz proceeded to lower payroll and have two losing seasons after that. Are you going to believe anything Jerry says? Indeed. He’s a snake oil salesman.

Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
Sure because he’s not good and no where close to earning his contract. If he was putting up 3+ WAR every year, no one would care much about his contract. Instead, he’s been worse than replacement level. 2023: 0.4 bWAR 2024: -0.8 bWAR 2025: 1.0 bWAR

Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
$100 million dollar contracts aren’t even really big anymore. Only to frugal teams like the Sox and A’s. Also, the Sox signed Adam Dunn for 4-years and $56 million. Jason Heyward’s contract with the Cubs was 8-years and $184 million. Totally different ballparks between those two contracts.

You’re right. And the Rays gave Longoria a $100 million dollar extension years ago. It is the A’s and Sox remaining.

Good. He can get injured again for another team and miss half the season.

Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
Was that the total value of the Machado contract if he hit every incentive? 🤣 You’re right though — the Sox and the Pirates are the last two teams to never have signed a player to a $100 million dollar contract and the largest for the Sox is Benintendi at $75 million.

White Sox acquire LHP Chris Murphy from BOS
Fraser Ellard, the guy who pitched 41 total mediocre innings and just retired? That’s a stretch.

Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
And it did. So the Sox are the last team to have never offered a player a contract above $75 million. “The Pirates have made Kyle Schwarber a four-year offer, sources told The Athletic. The report says it’s probably worth more than $100 million.”

Sox linked to Patrick Wisdom
They are looking at the top guys — a 30 year old failed reliever in the majors and a 34 year old guy nearing retirement. Good to know. There has to be better players than this in the overseas market, even outside of the top guys.

White Sox acquire LHP Chris Murphy from BOS
We can’t develop our own lefty specialists? A team not expected to compete should be able to do this, considering they can give multiple guys innings to see what they can do.
-
White Sox acquire LHP Chris Murphy from BOS
It’s funny. If we have so much talent in the minors, why not develop our own relievers? Why trade for them like Booser last year and Murphy this year?

The comments are even clowning how cheap the Pirates are.

Haha, yup. You say you aren’t shopping him and then follow up with this statement… - “It’s very truthful that we are not shopping him (Luis Robert), because we’re very comfortable having him in a White Sox uniform, knowing what he’s capable of doing. Now if it makes sense for both parties to work out a deal, then so be it. But we’re planning on him being in uniform for us next year.”
