Okay, so they are “spoiled for choices in the infield” but mostly with guys who aren't yet currently proven MLB quality infielders or are has-been’s.
-
I was just curious as to which players you were referring to for each position.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox

The only way it could be worse is if while attending a Sox game, The Rate collapsed into hell and you were forced to watch this team play with TLR as manager and Grifol as his bench coach, while being burned for eternity by the flames of hell. -
You think that Getz would realize this by now considering he DFA both DeLoach and Amaya and was able to retain one and reclaim the other since he was put back on waivers again. If you have multiple guys that can be DFA, not claimed, or were DFA a second time so you can reclaim them, you definitely have players you can dump from your roster for other players. 🤣
-
They could have DFA’ed a number of bad players. It didn’t have to be Colas. Owen White for one, and he is already a serious rehab project.
-
So why wouldn’t adding and playing additional prospects make sense instead of playing veterans that won’t be here in a year and won’t be traded for squat?
-
Can you please list these players out at each of the 3 infield positions?
-
Totally agree with you on your last paragraph. The problem is that we aren’t privy to all the information on each and every player/prospect that Getz signs or trades for so we aren’t basing our opinions on players with the same information and data as Getz and his team have. They should have more knowledge of all of these players so we should be wrong more often than them. Also, results matter. Whether we like a trade or not from the start, if none of the players acquired turn into productive major leaguers, the trade is more than likely a failure. Especially if people are expecting this rebuild to produce results in 3+ years.

Did he do that with the Phoenix Suns? -
Will be interesting to see what the Mets end up doing with him. Sounds like it’s down to him and Starling Marte for one opening day roster spot. “Mets have 'decision to make' on new outfielder Alexander Canario”
-
No, that would be crazy. Obviously he would get the same shot as every other young player and performance would matter. Regardless, is Slater going to be around for the next 6 seasons? But I would love to see Getz nab Canario or any other interesting young player that gets cut loose before the season starts, even if they require a roster spot. The Sox have bad players on their roster that they can afford to cut.
-
Why are you comparing two acquisitions in which when one (Fletcher) cost a prospect and one (Canario) only cost cash considerations? Your scenario does not match the reality of what happened. If Canario were to fail, he only cost cash considerations, a 40-man roster spot, and some at bats, and the Sox have enough junk on their 40-man that they could have made room for him. If Meidroth is a bust, are you going to tell yourself that he wasn’t a bad trade target just because you thought he was a good one? That’s not how it works. Getz and his team have way more access to data on players than we do and it’s their job to pick the right ones, not yours or mine. It’s not like I said I’d move to another city if Fletcher is a bust. That would make no sense. Jerry isn’t paying me to be the Sox GM. He gifted the job to Getz. The onus is on him, not me. Many people also liked the Santos trade and now it looks pretty mediocre. You have been defending Slater’s acquisition this offseason — like I asked earlier, what does he really do for this team with where it is at? You said 2 potential wins. Well, if the Tauchman and Slater platoon end up winning the Sox 2 games in a 100 loss season, the only guy who will ultimately care and remember those meaningless wins is probably Greg, cuz of course — “just win baby!”

This is the entire point. There is zero reason to give playing time to a mediocre 32 year old veteran outfielder who will be gone in a season or less over giving a shot to a 24 year old outfielder with power potential. If Canario sucks, oh well. If he does well, you may have an outfielder for the future, or at least a platoon outfielder to face lefties. Ultimately, it is worth the shot seeing what he can do over what Slater is going to provide in another 100 loss season.
-
Earlier in this thread, you basically stated that Canario has zero shot of contributing as a major leaguer. Meanwhile, Slater was absolutely terrible last season to the tune of a -0.2 bWAR, but you are sure he’s the better option to put up professional at bats? Who is using a crystal ball again? Did you look at his platoon stats from last year?
-
Slater’s final line last season wasn’t very professional. He was about as bad as our entire lineup last season. .209/.321/.266/.586 He’s probably just as likely to be DFA before the end of the season as put up a professional line. And he’s already hurt.
-
You’d rather watch a 32 year old outfielder with a .728 career OPS in what will more than likely be another losing season? Any specific reason why?

Tonight, I learned that the WWE’s security team is worse at managing security than the Sox are at playing baseball. 🤣 Hopefully this Punk/Rollins feud ends soon and for good. Seth Rollins is as lame as his outfits. He’s just so boring IMO. -
He was out of options and teams already had their 40-man rosters full since ST had started. In what will likely be another 100 loss season, I’d rather see what a 24 year old outfielder can do rather than yet another veteran retread in Slater, who won’t net you anything of value at the trade deadline anyways. Slater isn’t exactly a lock to perform any better than him anyways, based on his mediocre to bad past two seasons. No risk and no reward.
-
I was referring to an outfielder that would have cost next to nothing that the Cubs DFA, not large free agent outfielder signings.
-
Sox had to make sure they gave him a spin last ST before he officially retired. It’s what they do. I call it the Jimmy Rollins experience.
-
And he has absolutely no idea where the ball is going when he pitches. Only 25 of Iriarte’s 52 pitches went for strikes today.
-
Not if he’s not a successful major league pitcher.
-
Horribly, in under a year.
-
Dude couldn’t buy strikes if they were on clearance at the dollar store. Walking as many batters or more than innings you pitch is a great recipe for epic failure.
