Anyone worried about Venable’s lineup decisions yet? Does Palacios have to lead off just because that’s where the usual RF Tauchman would be? I realize the majority of the lineup sucks but Palacios should barely be on any MLB team’s roster, much less starting AND leading off. Awful.

Yup. Nice that a team would have the option. Otherwise, if he keeps sucking you just non-tender him. It would be a bit surprising if the Guardians can’t get something for him. We should find out by tomorrow afternoon, which is the deadline for a trade before he goes on waivers for 48 hours.

I read rumors that the Colts actually wanted Loveland over Warren. That could have been a nice trade down but I guess if both the Colts and the Bears truly valued Loveland over Warren, they probably made the right decision.

This is true. Per Spotrac — “POTENTIAL OUT: 2026, 3 YR, $33,103,306; $3,200,000 DEAD CAP”. Hopefully the Bears can trade him for a pick before this happens but at least they have a cheap out from paying him.

Yeah, this is also why the pick is even riskier/scarier. If you take a TE at #10, you should be getting the sure-fire consensus top TE of the draft. Between Loveland and Warren, we don’t even know if that’s the case. For reference, Brock Bowers was drafted at #13 last year and there was no doubt he was the stud TE of the draft. Meanwhile, mentioning Sam LaPorta actually makes this pick look worse because he wasn’t taken until #34 in the 2nd round of the 2023 draft. I would be very surprised if Poles couldn’t have traded down, got an extra pick, and still drafted Loveland.

Agreed, I am not a fan of this pick. If there was a chance to trade down, Poles should have taken it, and if Warren ends up being the better TE, Poles needs to go.

How does a GM / manager go from being insistent on starting a glove first / no bat SS to starting a 6’3” 225 pound 1B/3B by trade that has barely played SS in the minors or majors? Further evidence that the Sox are dysfunctional as f***.

Like fathom said, make him the Director of Operations if you like his ability to turnover the operations of the team, but he is absolute s%*# at assessing and developing talent.
