Chasing Records — 121 losses, modern MLB record
Thanks for sharing. I knew the Sox had a lot of 1-run losses in which they narrowly escaped being shut out. I’m surprised that the Cubs have been even worse in this area.

Shut Out Counter
No, I don’t remember the Astros run of futility all that much but I do remember the 2003 Tigers. I watch games when I’m not working, fishing with my kids, or watching them play football. But everyone enjoys watching a train wreck in baseball form every now and then. And JR, Getz, and Grifol have provided the ultimate show.

Shut Out Counter
Around May 1st of next year, nobody will care because Getz’s team will have another shot at the record for futility or to top the record if they set it this year. ?

Story on Sox trade possibilities...
I remember World Series expectations from the Sox first rebuild, but they died out when Jerry didn’t want to pay Machado or Harper and the Sox ended up with Keuchel instead of Wheeler. In any case, the Orioles have a much tougher path to get there. The AL Central is a joke compared to the AL East.

How much is a guy like Fedde worth in a trade?
Cubs have so many problems right now it may not matter. Underperforming offense and a garbage bullpen. Even Kopech would be a huge upgrade for them.

A trade with the Brewers makes almost too much sense not to happen, unless another team bids higher. The Brewers are desperate for cheap starting pitching. Dallas Keuchel. Nuff said…

Story on Sox trade possibilities...
The White Sox already crafted that case study based on their last failed 5-year rebuild, all while being in the weakest division in baseball. Meanwhile, the Orioles are in the best. There is no comparison.

And what is your lineup of starting position players to score runs after you have extended Fedde? The Sox have almost nothing in the cupboard.

Greg, in your mythical world of baseball, is every good Sox player signed to a lifetime contract like the MLB prior to free agency? You have to factor in years of control in on every player, where the Sox are as a team and if they can compete (they can’t yet), as well as an owner that doesn’t like paying a premium to starting pitchers that are hitting free agency. Your ideas would get the Sox to maybe be a .500 team and nothing better. What does that achieve?- Story on Sox trade possibilities...
Not a huge injury but starters are dropping like flies… “Mariners placed RHP Bryan Woo on the 15-day injured list with a right hamstring strain. Woo has been phenomenal this season for Seattle, registering a microscopic 1.77 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 28/3 K/BB ratio across 40 2/3 innings (eight starts), but has struggled to stay healthy. The 24-year-old righty was lifted from the fourth inning of Monday’s start against the Rays with a right hamstring tightness, and a subsequent MRI revealed a low-grade strain. He’s going to miss at least a couple weeks, even with this being arguably the best-case scenario outcome.”- Guess Trade Values of Sox Starters
They better be worth something. The Brewers just acquired our old friend and are apparently throwing him into their major league rotation.- Phillies have been scouting Kopech
Throw him back in the rotation and he could put up a 5+ ERA and hurt his value even more. At least they will be trading him with an extra year of cheap control.- Padres into Garret Crochet
Usually, impending free agents are the ones traded. The additional value is already in the extra two seasons of cheap control over Crochet, not some expectation of him signing an extension. The Sox aren’t going to worry about trading Crochet to a team expecting an extension. If a team requested that, the Sox would say CYA and trade him to another team.- Second Coming of Frank Thomas
He’s twice the size of every other kid on the field and he knocked out two horribly lobbed pitches. Like Lip said, check his birth certificate. ?- 2025 Potential Manager Candidates
He’s also as old as La Russa and turning 80 at the end of the year. I don’t think we need to see yet another manager taking his old man naps during the start of games.- Phillies have been scouting Kopech
I’m not sure what you are seeing when Kopech pitches, but you are going to be disappointed in the return for him when it finally happens. Kopech isn’t sniffing a return of the #62nd ranked prospect in the MLB. Cease returned one top 100 prospect — Drew Thorpe, who was rated #85 at the time of the trade. - How much is a guy like Fedde worth in a trade?
