  1. #1 - How much capital? I don't know what a ton means here in terms of dollars. Thought it was reported earlier this year he is putting up about $100 million to help pay down debt. Do we have any other info or is it just speculation? #2 - Right, he's bought up shares as part of his bid to eventually buy the team. That's not what I would call "pouring billions of dollars into a vanity project". #3 - I'm not a moron We're all desperate for new Ownership. We're all excited knowing Ownership will be changing in the near future. But I don't think he's acting like a silent owner/partner where he is making decisions behind the scenes that impact the day to day operations of the Org. I might be wrong, but there is nothing currently happening that makes me think he's involved as others seem to think.
  2. But he's not putting billions of dollars into this project. He has an agreement to buy the team in 2034. Maybe he gets lucky and he gets to buy in 2029. But he isn't infusing the org with hundreds of millions of dollars right now. He isn't running anything in regards to the day-to-day operations of the Club. I'm sure he sits in on meetings and is kept informed about things that are happening, but beyond that his focus is most likely on a new stadium. Whatever money he has agreed to spend on the team to help reduce debt and whatnot was most likely negotiated as part of the agreement they made.
  3. If he were to sell the team today for 2 billion he'd owe about $465 million in capital gains taxes (23.8%) and about $100 million in IL State taxes (4.95%). That's a rough estimate based solely on his purchase price of $40 million and the sell price.
  4. I'm cherry picking stats here, but he had 0 homeruns and 11 RBI since August 15. 134 plate appearances in that stretch.
  5. Hits his first homerun in 7 weeks and the hyperbole flows.
  6. Those 3-5 minute game recaps on YouTube are great.
  7. Are these kids watching games? Cubs aren't on free tv these days.
  8. Watch the first 5 minutes of the video. It's clear from the words actually spoken by the man that he was not shafted and that the Sox gave him an opportunity that he himself knew was a long shot. He then goes on to talk about how he can't pitch like he used to and knows it is something in his head that is causing that.
  9. What, exactly, are optimists "celebrating" around here? I don't see anyone "celebrating", I see people pointing out and talking about positive things they see from this team/org. If that's considered celebrating then you need a new definition of that word. And good franchises don't expect excellence, they expect results. Big difference.
  10. Is it? Aside from Robert and possibly Houser is there anyone else on the roster that a team might be interested in?
  11. What value is there in having access to data whenever possible? Is this a serious question?
  12. I still occasionally post on WSI. Probably out of habit more than anything since there really is only 15-20 active posters there these days. I joined that site in 2004 when a new coworker found out I was a Sox fan. Even back then though the mods were ban happy and there was always a weird invisible line that you better not cross or you'd be banned. And depending on who the mod was you never knew what might happen.
  13. What, you think JR would let him spend money on good players?
  14. Build from the ground up isn't singular to the ML roster.
  15. It was recently renovated to be a music venue and a brewery (Other Half, based out of NY) opened up in there. Have not been to the venue but have heard good things. Think it's pretty small though, maybe 1500 capacity.
  16. It isn't, but if the State can "find" 2 billion to give to the Sox or Bears yet continue to raise taxes on basically everything, that is not going to go over well with anyone. The state has serious financial issues that need to be addressed instead of handing money over to billionaires.
  17. On paper it looks like Getz is excelling at the role of Head of Baseball Operations but failing at the role of GM. Maybe he should hire an actual GM.
  18. Marquee is $20 a month, so $30 for all 3 teams isn't that outrageous. I'm not going to buy it though. I went from cable to YouTubeTV years ago because they had CSN included in the base package (and it was far cheaper than cable) but they've raised prices so I am looking for a replacement. I don't watch much TV anymore but access to sports is what keeps me from completely cutting the cord.
  19. I have YouTubeTV so I'm probably never going to see any games. This doesn't upset me.
  20. All these guys need is a healthy dose of TWTW. That will cure everything!
  21. JR doesn't give a crap what you or any of us fans think. And we will see a repeat of this year next year because they have already told us they won't be active in FA and they are looking to cut payroll. The Athletic article made it clear that JR is stuck in the past, thinks he knows more than everyone else and is determined to do things his way. Bringing in another GM won't change a damn thing when there are still issues at the root of the organization. They don't spend money where it needs to be spent in order to have a successful organization and that won't change until there is new Ownership.
  22. They have a process but they don't have the criteria. Seems right.
  23. Understand, but it still doesn't fit the narrative.
