  1. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 12:46 AM) I am guessing Boston will be looking for pitching back for Buchholz. He is the last of the WS pitchers left and I think both sides may want a change. I hope Boston would put a package together for Q w a young catcher but I wouldn't want Buch. Kelly was rumored to be odd man out in their rotation and could be sent back to AAA. My guess that is why his name is coming up. They also have Allen Craig, Bradley and Castillo sitting in AAA for trade bait as well. i wouldn't want to trade with Bos, the rtn will really not help that much.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 02:05 AM) If Micah can't improve defensively then there's almost no amount of offensive production that is going to make it worth having him as a starter on this team. you do have a great point. the whole mentality of the sox is, they would sacrifice defense for the offense. but when the whole infield is bad ............ what to do.
  3. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 01:59 AM) Alexei, Conor, and Flowers have been and will always be the worst culprits. If the Sox want to continue to lose then by all means keep running Alexei, Conor, and Sanchez out there. i am going on the record and say this. Alexei must have some personal problems of some sort. this is not like him.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 11:57 PM) I don't know if there's a single player in baseball who would draw crowds by his mere presence on a .500 or lower White Sox team. We tried this Albert Belle, albeit one of the most unlikable players in the game. This offseason, at least part of Samardzija's addition was marketing-related. Even guys like Mike Trout, Stanton, Bryant, Puig or Miguel Cabrera aren't going to move the meter after so many years of not making the playoffs. I remember quite distinctly, living in Kansas City....they would get at least 5,000-7,500 more fans per game when Greinke was pitching in that Cy Young season and the rest of the team was terrible...or Toronto, getting a similar bump for Roy Halladay starts when they weren't close to sniffing the playoffs. With this current Sale streak of greatness, you could probably chart all those home starts and not see an appreciable cause and effect attendance-wise between him and John Danks or Jose Quintana pitching. Same thing with Rodon and Fulmer...exciting prospects, but very few fans are buying tickets to watch pitchers unless it's Nolan Ryan, Dwight Gooden, Fernando Valenzuela, Mark The Bird Fidyrch (rookie phenoms). And that's another area where KW's philosophy of "entertaining" home run hitters (crowds like offense when the the team's not winning) is coming to fruition under the Cubs now with their growing collection of hitters. i have been reading your post and i will disagree with some of this. Rizzo, Trout, Stanton, Bryant, Puig will undoubtedly bring in the fans. the fans will really get on the bandwagon for the power display on 1 or these players. in addition, they have that certain charisma that tv likes. well maybe not as much as trout but Puig will have more than enuf to do it by himself. re the pitching, yeah that was great to watch esp with the antics of the bird. but some fans may not appreciate pitchers as much as hitters.
  5. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) It seems defense was never a priority under KW. Since the team was lacking a 3rd baseman they tried guys like Fields and experimented with Viciedo at that position in the minors to trying to filled a need. You can do that in Little League. At the minor league level you either got it or you don't. It is interesting when young players leave this organization for another do they get better? you have to take one thing in consideration. Viciedo was an unknown factor. he was recently signed player from Cuba. he was also a 3b. can't blame the sox at that failure.
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 11:38 PM) Every player works onthe fundamentals nearly everyday in the minors. At least every team I ever saw that includes white sox minor league teams. then i stand corrected, but why does the one coach is classified as a roving coach??
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 10:07 PM) I think they could be but need work and coaching...and you can guess how much confidence I have in that. for eaton, i think that it is that 2yr jinx that always reels its ugly head.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 07:51 PM) See the post in thread I made about Quick Draft Update - all the gory math is in there. Even with Fulmer at slot, they could offer about 250k without tax penalty, or 425k with the penalty, to try to get Hickman. has anyone mention who Fulmer adviser is???
  9. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 07:43 PM) I'm one of the bigger BPA guys here when it comes to the draft, but with that being said the Sox do need to be able to develop their own bats. I wasn't talkin about the draft specifically but rather the Org as a whole i will admit this. BPA is good and even ideal. but when 2 players are close, i will go for the need of the team.
  10. QUOTE (newbiesoxfan @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) Yep. Secondary pitches, secondary pitches, secondary pitches.. exactly.... continue to grow as a pro. work on the other things pitchers need to work on..... how is it going???
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) For the counterpoint...I see this as exactly what we tried to do this year. "Oh we just need to overpay for a few league-average players". Now we've wound up with 5 holes by your count, 6-7 by mine. Even if we go by your count ont he FA market, we're talking about adding $50 million again, to a payroll already at $110 million. But the sad thing is of course, I pretty much expect us to do something like that. Blow another $20 million trying to find league-average players, fail to fix anything else, go into next year with another solid payroll, win 70 games, and then come up with another plan for the next year that winds up with us winning 72. Because that's the White Sox organization. the sox should be addressing several fronts and i am not going to touch on the major trade ideas. i would like the sox to trade some of their surplus minor leaguers, yeah, i know they may not bring in a lot, but some comp money or int't money as an exchange, or young prospects in the over top 20 ranked. second, between now and july 2 really identify some good players and / or go hog wild. trade a couple of the near of the top prospects to get better prospects at positions that the sox need. so in other words, retool the foundation of the systems.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 09:22 PM) I really feel like the talent is there. Something is poisoning the well on the South Side. This entire franchise just took a gigantic leap backwards, all at the same time. That doesn't happen without a reason. I don't know if it is clubhouse problems, leadership problems, management problems, or everything rolled into one. The talk with Ventura has always been that his demeanor would keep the team calm and relaxed. This team has looked the opposite. They look tight and distracted. They play like someone in the dugout is holding a gun to their head. There is no patience in any phase of the game right now. When guys get on base, they are looking to hit a six run homer on the first pitch. Alexei has a double play ball hit to him, and he is looking to turn it into a quadruple play. Anytime something bad happens, the team just melts down. There is no confidence to be had anywhere. No swagger at all. They play like they expect the worst to happen. Something needs to change. If it is a trade to get rid of the problem player/s, or if it is a coaching problem, just fire them. That being said, I think the talent is there. Even if you get these guys back to being average as a whole, instead of a f***ing terrible team, there is space to go. This is a team that could win in a year if whatever is wrong internally is fixed. the best description on what is happening. but that is what is bothering me. everyone is blaming RV without knowing what is the main source of trouble. i also understand and i am not giving RV a free ride. he has screwed up in my opinion, but this is a infestation in the clubhouse.
  13. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) Has Avi's knee contributed to his recent poor play? He was our best hitter before he went down, and since he's come back his performance has plummeted. I'm not blaming it all on the knee but that has to be part of it, right? a good point, but i think sox don't mention any updates of injury. didn't they just said something like that several weeks ago.
  14. QUOTE (South Sider @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 09:16 PM) As much as I would love a package of some of the Cubs prospects, first and foremost I believe Bryant is deemed untouchable. And they're just going to sign Price in the offseason and keep their good young players. bingo.... i am for that.
  15. QUOTE (michelangelosmonkey @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 09:10 PM) Really THAT'S your take away? Which of the Cubs starters would you trade straight up for Rodon, Sale or even Q? Hammel's old. Lester is old and expensive. Arrieta's is 30 and has a season and a half of success. Hendricks isn't good. And the POINT wasn't are the Cubs good...which I think they are...but they built around hitting and their pitching, irrespective of team ERA is a bit shaky. The Sox will lose Shark off their payroll next year and with five cheap starting pitchers can go out and sign two or three high priced free agents to make the team better. i don't know about that. i would include him and any deal as a kick in players. someone who can go straight to the rotation and be a option for a couple of yrs, until the studs get ready to step in.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 09:04 PM) They're not trading Rizzo...or Bryant, IMO I think they'll go after someone like Sonny Gray and offer Schwarber and Baez, etc. you are prob right, this post at this time was too good to passed this up. i was really expected a harsher response. many thanks.
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) That can be dangerous. A fever makes the body tissues more extensible and pliable, thus makes any tissue more susceptible to injury. i didn't know that. here i was going to say something about his intestinal fortitude and his determination to play.
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) The logic of selling high on a reliever with inflated value and a straight fastball = good. The logic of trading for a league average hitter in the PCL and expecting him to become a middle of the order type is no good. b/c of that, i now look on the PCL in another light.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) Reed isn't good and the Sox still would have sucked with him last year. last yr, there is no helping the situation. and that was not the question to what i responded too. lets keep on track.
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 08:57 PM) Cubs conversations start with Bryant or the Sox hang up. i have been passing on this, but i am too tempted. everyone is hyped about Bryant, why not Rizzo, Russell and Schwarber, forget about Vogelbach
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 08:42 PM) It's crazy how both the Santos and Reed trades worked out. The Sox sold at the perfect time on both of the guys, with both of them turning into bad pitchers. It's just too bad the scouting part of the return in the trade failed. Molina was simply a terrible idea by the organization, as not many people even viewed him as a starter when he was acquired. Not only that, but most teams didn't know Santos was available, and judging by other closers that were traded that offseason, it seems a higher return was very possible. As far as Davidson goes, I think it was a good risk, but unfortunately it appears something happened between 2013 and 2014 and Davidson hasn't been able to recover. I do think they should give him a shot after they sell away players next month, as it wouldn't hurt to see if something can click at the big league level. There's not a lot of use in having him repeat AAA for a 3rd season next year. i don't. we lost on that trade. plain and simple. we got nothing for a rtn of reed and 1 yr in the majors. the sox really could've used Reed last yr. in addition, i don't care if he was good for q yr. just put it up as a bad trade.
  22. since the owners are on good terms with the danks, just ask him to retire and they will make it worth his interest to do so.

this is a great board and with all being die hard fans and knowledgeable.
  24. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 06:45 PM) I heard someone say you can't coach the stupid out of the player. I think the Sox philosophy is that these can always be teachable no matter how deficient a player is in that area. Most kids finishing college have a least 10 years of baseball experience. If they don't have a clue on how to play the game by then how much better is it going to be now that they are going to be playing at a higher level. at that point, close the book. which pro team took the draft to another level by asking the players to go thru a test....
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 05:35 PM) I do not. However I am not saying what they should be doing either. ok, i was always under the impression that they have spring training, pretty much as we knows it, at the beginning of the season. then they go to their separate league and team and it is there, they will have the regular coaches. so i think they will continue to work during the season. for me, i would like a more intense regular season play and teaching, instead of having a roving coach to make sure all the teams are working on the same page, i like each team to have their own roving coach in-house. to keep the intense learning from spring training to continue thru the season. so in other words reps follow by more reps.
