QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) You saw a video of him at shortstop? yeah it was milb about a month ago which I believe lead to some other links, I can't remember if those links were on youtube or not. that the best I can do. sorry.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) Would be shocked if it's not Surkamp, especially since Heath isn't on the 40 man, and since Surkamp throws with the hand that makes an L when you look at it. Hey Heads22 how is it going????

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) "Take less money and sign now so that we can offer the rest to that 32nd round pick guy". Any updated news on Montes de Oca

Our value of prospects are way different than those in the professional world, however it doesn't stop the great discussions of what we see. Getting a Peteson or a Paxton may be out of the realm of possibilities, unless we sweeten the trade from us. I am more looking for 1 player out of Marlette, Diaz, Smith or even Wilson as a return for DV. again that is if I am over rating DV value. there are some value for even Kivlehan for a pos of a 1b / dh.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 04:48 AM) “It’s something that if I have to be there I’ll be there,” Abreu said through the team’s manager of cultural development, Lino Diaz. “But it’s something I’m not wishing to be there. It’s a great thing. It’s just one of those things I don’t particularly wish to be on.” (About Home Run Derby) I just loved his response to the home run derby. no one will ever not know what is on his mind.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 01:38 AM) At his age, I think the ceiling is going to be a Top 75-100 and some flyers. He's a good player, but people know what he is. No one was fooled into thinking he can sustain the performance he started the season with. I was just reading mlb rumors and sea search for a trade partner..... with the holes they have in the outfield and 1b / dh, would they also like dunn as well? this past off season, sea spent a lot of money and their concerns are with ref to budget. I wonder if we eat some salary, would that be a trade off for a better player in return?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 01:12 AM) And your entire reply simply supports the statement that THIS IS A REBUILDING YEAR. You are comparing the rebuilding white sox to teams that won 95 games and wondering why our bullpen wouldn't measure up even when people were healthy. It should not have done so. This is a rebuilding year. We are rebuilding. This is what the people who wanted to sell off veterans and develop young talent wanted. Again, rebuilding. and if I may, I would like to add, no matter how many games we win and the excitement of winning, lets not get carried away. we are rebuilding and let stay on course. the winning is nice and it does show we have the foundation to build on. I am really excited on this team. get prospects and players to build on.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 08:44 PM) And Franklin is lock? We have L Garcia to hit .220 and play SS. Why in the world would we want another one. I'd much prefer A or AA prospects over prospects that are well on their way to being failed prospects. Ackley? He can't hit either. We could put any of our prospects in the OF as well. "Steverson can fix 'em" prospects should be taken off waivers or in return for one of our Ackleys. We have Abreu, so we trade for Smoak? This is why deals are so hard to make. Franklin and Ackley are exactly who the Mariners want to trade for someone like Alexei. But who wants those guys? that's why I say A or AA prospect with some ceiling, regardless of position. Don't need more junk in this organization. everybody has done their homework as I have and have fav prospects they would love to get in return from sea. with that, I was then and I am now saying the same thing. for some reason seat GM likes DV, if we can trade him for pitching and more pitching. get as many pitchers we can and let them separate themselves. also look for spare catchers however with the cat we got in the draft, that may not be a dire need right now. again sea has some very good pitching in the 7-14 ranking range.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 07:28 PM) Probably talking about Montero, who is not a catcher any longer and is apparently only able to bat against lefties as a DH. Soooo limited value there. you are prob right.... the is old brain still works.

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 07:25 PM) Too bad Texas wasn't in the race this year. They would a great matchup for Dunn. Tx is also looking for a dh .... per I think fox sports last week.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 08:11 PM) Are there any reports of Ravelo's defensive ability at 1B? All I've ever seen is that he couldn't hack it at 3B. on the video that I saw, I only saw him at ss. what I saw, I really like defensively. maybe the other posters who are really more knowledgeable can answ that.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 09:41 PM) I see Johnson as either a 2-3 type of starter or toiling in AAA forever. No middle ground. If he gets "his stuff" back, he's going to be good. If he doesn't, I don't see any reason to think he's worth a s***. I respect what you are saying, I would like to disagree with you. you actually saw Johnson as Jose Q or Danks equal? that is a #2 / 3 pitcher. I saw him more of solid #5 maybe with upside of #4.....
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 07:15 PM) The rumor was that they offered Ackley for him, and Hahn countered with Franklin. i will take your word over my memory any day. but wasn't there also a catcher involve from sea?
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 07:05 PM) For Viciedo? Any of them that have a pulse. back in the summer, they wanted (DV) for some reason the gm like DV and was hoping for i beleive a pitcher...... it was i believe talk about beckham.... i know according to mlb.com sea has a interesting group of pitchers, a cat name tyler and some of positon player in the high teens in their ranking. but hey what the hell do i know.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 06:56 PM) Jon Morosi @jonmorosi · 9m Mariners would be in playoffs if postseason started today. They're expected to talk with White Sox if Dunn, Ramirez, Viciedo available. Jon Morosi @jonmorosi · 7m White Sox in last place now, and -- if they decide to sell -- have four bats to possibly move: Dunn, Beckham, Ramirez, Viciedo. there were some discussion in the preseason about a pit and of (dv) going to sea..... the offer was there but the value of what sea was offering was not enuf...... according to mlb trade rumors.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 06:09 PM) Is it just me, or has it become a thing from Apple/Microsoft and now Google to all converge on the same basic design principals? Everything looks like flat, borderless tiles on every single mobile OS now. Android/iOS and Windows Mobile all seem very similar to each other now. yes so they can all take advantage of those who are computer naive to not know the difference

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 05:45 PM) IMO his defense needs to improve dramatically to be the long term solution at 3B. He seems to have traded power for average, which is fine, and could lead to a long career as a infield super sub sorry for hijacking the thread, but I just saw your quote about ozzie, it was funny.

QUOTE (WKamm @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 05:25 PM) Where would I go to see video of this? Google video search turned up nothing. this is fisk discussing it on the radio sport talk. now I have to see the video. this is old time baseball as it was.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) On a season like this, it is a good idea to not get too high when they are winning (this is not a playoff team), or too low when they are losing (this is not a 70 win team either). Keep focus on the rebuilding process. its not my fault ..... it the medical stuff I am smoking. but it is true on the medical stuff.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) Essentially, linear weights stats assign a run value to each offensive event based on the average amount of runs it will contribute (based on changes in run expectancy from one base/out state to another). So you should use them in two situations: 1. When you want to find out who is more valuable overall when comparing different types of players (just like you asked), and 2. When you want to find out who is more valuable when comparing players ACROSS context. So like if you want to compare Adrian Beltre to Chase Headley, and you know the numbers are going to be off because Texas is a bandbox and Petco kills offense, and plus Adrian Beltre is in a way better lineup for RBIs. uh ???? all joking aside, this is a little too much for me. plus I take your young mind and word for it. these new stats and how you young people know them is amazing. good work
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) Yes. Those numbers you presented, LDF, leave out a ton of details too. How many times are they walking? How many bases are they stealing? What position are they playing? Do they play good defense? How are their enchiladas? Important stuff like that. hmmmm food, now we are talking. there are more to that that I am missing, that is why I asked for help. I couldn't remember the whole question. I am sorry about that. my old age mind misses many things. this debate happen either on this site or at the other sox site and it was about Royce clayton vs a better hitting ss.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) If he keeps on hitting, they'll find a spot for him. Also, he's saying he can develop into a power bat. Plenty of guys hit 20 homers a year at 1B, it's not a problem, especially in today's game. and I agree. mark grace is one. however with no history of ever hitting over 10 hrs, his anticipated power may never come. however a person who hits, and play great d, one will find a place for him, as you said.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) This question is why we have linear weights! Just compare those guy's wOBA or wRC+ to see who contributes more. MAN .... I am old fart who barely knows how to use a stupid cell phone. now you want me to know about more stats.......... have pity.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 04:33 PM) Meh, that's his thing. Cubans are weapons apparently. I'm just waiting for Nieto to be called el granada (grenade) or something like that. "Nieto throws a grenade down to 2nd to catch the runner stealing...That's why he's El Granda" that is funny .......
