  1. re Dank and Beckman, I am all for keeping them if we can not get good value for them. JR is faithful to his players and coaches. I really wonder if the sox org had discuss moving Dank with other team or was this a msg board wishful thinking.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 02:50 PM) This comment makes me want to go all taylorStSox on you but I like reading the site too much. funny seriously does anyone really think we can trade dunn for anybody viable? I say let him stay, and leave when his contract is up. I think he has done all he can do esp as a clubhouse presence.
  3. taking on a contract or paying a fa is one thing, it is another for poor scouting and decision making by the team top brass. then again one could argue that this top brass got us a world series. dams if you don't damn if you do. btw, a question, has anyone seen a printed rumor of the yanks scouting the sox? it is obvious that they would.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 04:14 PM) Sweet; Glad the problem is solved. also use roguekiller and if you have a 64 bit systems, then use the 64 bit program. you can get it from bleeping computer site. run it in safe mode. after that use combofix also from the same site and in safe mode. use revo uninstaller and uninstall anything that looks susp again in safe mode. come into regurlar mode and run avast boot time scan. after that run malware bytes and spybot > the old version, you can get it at "old apps" fyi, you will need the avast uninstaller to rmv it. don't use avg nor google chrome. this past month chrome has silently change on how it works.
  5. Dank has been getting stronger on each of last several starts, or should I add it appears to be the case. furthermore, he came off an injury and last yr was imo a rebuilding yr for him. this yr is the yr to count. didn't he just have a career in k's a couple of starts ago or something. I think as it stands he is a very good 3/4 pitcher and as he gets his game back I would venture to say a 2-4 pitchers. lastly, any trade with dank should be with a package of another sox player like DV or GB or even dunn, so we can max the rtn.
  6. let the teams start lining up and start offering bids. buyers / sellers market is now going to be the phrase of the month.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) I like the idea of sending him to the rich Yanks for salary relief and catching prospect Peter O'Brien, decent average 25 HRs this year, was a top college player, Yanks have McCann, we have Flowers maybe I misunderstood your comment, are you saying sox send Dunn to the yanks? they have C. Beltran with 9 hrs and the same avg.
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 02:27 PM) Angels and A's both make moves to strengthen their team. Who else is waiting for the Mariners to overpay for Viciedo? and is sea going to be forced to trade or make multi trades as well. remember sea just made a crap load of spending in the offseason. they made that spending for what, to come in 3rd in the American League West?
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) With attendance being awful this year, and the team losing money last year, I'd bet we look to dump the full salary, and take back a lesser prospect. the point is, is a team willing to get Dunn for his power esp when playoff time comes around? and seriously, what can we really expect for the rtn?
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 12:27 PM) The reality of the situation for us is if we trade Viciedo now, we enter next offseason with holes at LF & DH and a huge lack of power in our lineup. Given some of our other needs, primary C & SP, that's a pretty large to-do-list for just one offseason and with no solid internal options to fill them. What's it going to cost us in terms of cash and prospects to fill all these holes from the outside? Will there be other options even available? People can hate all they want on Viciedo and be eager to move him, but when Jordan Danks is the next best option we have in-house, things can get a lot uglier. Having said this, I'm sure the stats-oriented posters will say Danks' superior defense and base-running would make him a more valuable player, which I would find laughable. At some point, certain posters have to accept the fact that baseball is not context-neutral and teams with the highest WARs aren't awarded automatic playoff spots. A team playing 81 games at the Cell with Conor at 3B, Garcia in RF, & Danks in LF (or someone like him) isn't going to do well offensively over the course of a season. It's critical to have some balance in your lineup and having those three guys at power-based positions would be a disaster IMO. this is my opinion, if we trade DV, Dank and maybe GB, I can see the brass dipping into the fa market. in addition with ref to the trade, again it all depends on the return, did we acquire a C / OF prospects in the trade. Pitching is another story, the wildcard is did the sox sign Rodon or not, if the sox did, then a fa pitchers is the route to go. the salary of 2015 sox will be where the sox can afford a fa. the outfield is where the biggest question mark is, maybe even DH however that can be filled if Davidson gets his game back.
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) Any trade value he has is for his bat not glove. He was already 4 for 4 ,and had gunned down Ackley trying to stretch a single into a double. It's not like the Mariners don't know Viciedo has been taken out of games in late innings for better defense. good point
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 02:47 AM) If Robin had replaced Viciedo in LF for the 9th DeAza catches the ball Tank missed and Sale gets the shut out. That 1 run kept him from taking the AL lead in ERA which he now qualifies for and WHIP. He is 2nd in both now I believe. imho, just trying to make DV look good for trade value...... which failed.
  13. trading DV is and will be very interesting. DV, if needed can be fillers for the of, dh and even 1b but rarely. that means teams with holes in the of or dh can look to him. now with the all star game soon to come, the teams in good standing can make a push, now the question is which are the teams that still feel they can make a push and which will need a player like DV. OAK just made a huge trade for 2 pit from the sCrubs, will sea still want DV? sfo need DV, how bout the AL east? in any trade we make now will include dank as well, since oak just got stronger.
  14. I hope everyone 4th was a safe one. now with ref to stl needing a 2b, GB would be a nice pickup for them, b/c he does hit maybe not in the high 270+ range, has hr power and plays good d. I mention several wks ago of stl and what would be a nice haul. they have a very good prospect ready to play and not a position for him. stl can offer a variety of of'er in return. adding dank's may sweeten the return. however trading Noesi is not even in the discussion, do anyone really expect stl to take Noesi? also, I wonder if the nl / al hitting theory still the same.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 05:46 AM) It's becoming a great sport of course for the critics to outdo each other....screaming for attention by coming up with the most outlandish comments they can possibly make about the latest Bay directorial effort, or any Adam Sandler movie. In the end, it makes them furious when those movies are so popular and profitable that they spawn more and more sequels. Transformers, in the end, is about marketing and selling toy robots. In terms of whether it accomplishes that goal, Bay does it better than the Happy Meal (tricking all the kids into buying the food to get the surprise inside) or sugar-laced cereal advertising on Saturday mornings. Then you have the cultural criticism that's intertwined with the tone of many movies that are coming out which are joint ventures between the U.S. and China. The last 35 minutes takes place in China/Hong Kong/Chongqing UNESCO World Heritage Site and is clearly pandering to achieve box office results. At least, from what I understand, Li Bing Bing is more than just a face on the screen, like Fan Bing Bing was used to little effect at the end of Iron Man 3 and also the recent X-Men film. They even had a branded Transformers reality t.v. show, essentially a competition to select and cast 2 professional actors and 2-4 amateurs in the final version of the film...as well as the premieres and promotions in Shanghai and Hong Kong. a great insightful comment nice..........

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 04:32 AM) http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/star-wars-1977 imdb said it came out may 25, 1977, yahoo search > may 25, trivia for movies > may 25, 1977. yet ebert saw it on jan 1, 1977 fyi, I do remember the comment, however everything I found on google says something else. I will not say you are wrong nor will I say I am wrong on this ..... it is over for me
  17. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:59 PM) We were discussing prospect with no "plus tools", but is still a solid player. I said that Rangel Ravelo immediately came to mind for me. He said he would consider his hit tool a plus, and some think he can develop his power in to a plus as well. Said he thought Trey had some raw skills, but his glove is behind his bat at 3B. I then asked him about if Hawkins may have finally turned a corner this year, and if he could actually regain some of that polish he lost from scouts. He said he saw Hawkins 6 weeks ago and didn't see anything to indicate that he figured it out at the plate. Said scouts don't seem to thrilled about him, but being only 20 and rebounding from such a bad season is a good step. Said he is still an easy out though. Said his raw skills though make scouts still believe it's hard to give up on him. He also said he thinks a move to Birmingham may help Hawkins simply because of the park factors. BIR is very pitcher friendly, W-S is very hitter friendly. Thinks a bigger field will make Hawkins tone down his big HR hacks. He said he thinks Hawkins fundamental issue at the plate is that he doesn't recognize the spin of the ball yet. He misses badly on breaking pitches. We also talked about how the Sox seem to never have a "no-s***" offensive prospect, at least not since Beckham and that didn't work out too well so far. He said a scout told him that the Sox seem to draft hitters with really good tools, but they never seem to improve within the system. They come in with great raw skills, but those skills stay raw. We ended our talk with me telling him that the Sox should send Thome over to W-S to fix Hawkins once he is done fixing Davidson in Charlotte. He enjoyed it. this was very informative thanks !!!
  18. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:35 PM) I did read it. and I say it again, you guys who knows all these stats and how to gage players is truly great. but I only know the old stuff, rbi's, hits, K's. the other stuff I am too old and other things associated with it to learn.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:41 PM) Star Wars was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and Ebert's review of the film was positive. not when it first came out... my family and I watch the siskel and ebert reviews... they may have change their mind afterward. just as another movie > I went saw it and loved it. I took family and friends and after 4 or 5 times the theater was barely filled. the actor was nominated and won the award... I can't remember if it was best actor or supporting actor. the movie was usual suspects and Kevin Spacey was the actor
  20. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:03 PM) Podsednik was a darling here and on other Sox boards in a time where advanced statistics were less utilized. He also played in a time where steroids were used much more so his OPS+ would be less than Eaton's even if they had the same OPS because the league average would be much higher. Podsedinik's game was also more tied to his ability to steal bases. Where Eaton brings better on base skills, defense and base running away from stealing bases. There are many factors that come into play when comparing the two so I am not sure why the two were compared other than that Podsednik (in '05 and '09) was the last decent leadoff hitter we have had other than Juan Pierre in 2010. a very good point, I would like the add, we need that sp leadoff hitter that can get the game going. a real impact player.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:01 PM) I like my make-believe violent movies to have depth and meaning! I remember a movie in the 70's that came out, the critics destroyed it, and mentioned that the white and black of the army reminded them of hilter the Nazis. the critics were siskel and ebert. (sp) move was Star Wars.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 07:52 PM) I say that with no real opinion on the matter, but rather the history the White Sox have of moving top prospects up if the level above them makes it into the playoffs. They like to expose them to a bit of pressure, when they can. good point about the playoff. something to add in the overall equation.
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 07:53 PM) OPS+ is adjusted by league and ballpark factors. An OPS+ of 100 is said to be league average. Anything over 100 is above average and anything below is below average. Considering that Eaton is a leadoff hitter and has one home run, an OPS+ of 105 is very strong for him because he tends to slug less because of his profile. That being said Eaton does offset his lack of home runs with his ability to hit triples. So yes, an OPS+ of 105 is good for Eaton, if a guy like Jose Abreu had an OPS+ of 105 I wouldn't be too happy with his performance. More importantly, Eaton is trending up and had an injury that made his stats much worse so it's conceivable that his OPS will improve with a larger sample size. so when someone mention S Podsednik during the WS run he was below league average yet he perform well. doesn't that contradict each other? btw thanks
