  1. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 12:24 PM) I would hope that the Cards feel like they have a good shot at getting him to sign an extension cause Holliday isnt worth all that talent. I believe Boras is his agent so an extension before the offseason is unlikely, but they're in a unique position with Pujols and even if they overpay in talent they need to focus on the next 2-3 years IMO
  2. I will give them some credit on their website content. Not the columns and stuff like that, but they're on top of breaking news and such
  3. He does a great job for the situation he's in. But I think it's a good deal for both teams. The Cards have the best hitter in the game in his prime years, I think they should basically do what they need to do to win in the next year or two. Also, they are a bigger market, so they'll likely be able to offer arbitration to Holliday and DeRosa so they can get them back or get picks if they leave. Beane on the other hand is hamstrung by a low payroll and he needs prospects to hit to contend, and he does a good job of trading. Edit: I'm actually not sure if the Oakland or St. Louis area is a bigger market, I meant to say payroll
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Nope and he's seemingly starting to hit a little
  5. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4353256 Looks like this is pretty close to being done. Seems like Oak like the 3 prospects they'll get and are a little afraid of offering arb for the picks and risk being on the hook for a potential 16m if things don't go right.
  6. ESPN is horrible. the only reason I would watch it was for BBTN (which wasn't very good, but I love baseball and once you got past the 20 minutes of Yankees and Red Sox, they would alude to other games) but not that MLBN exists there is zero reason for me to watch it except the live sporting events they have. People need to read "God Save the Fan" by Will Leitch if they haven't yet.
  7. http://www.thefightins.com/meechone/the-ph...s-perfect-game/ Link to the Phils watching the Wise catch
  8. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 11:17 PM) I just saw the Phillies in the clubhouse reaction to Wise's catch. Awesome. That is such a great clip.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 07:45 PM) I dunno, any time that "Going for it all" winds up involving making 2 prospects-for-big-name-guys-about-to-be-FA trades, I'm not sure you're good enough to be going for it all. Although...that would really hammer the Cubs's chances. eh, the NL isn't super, especially if the Phils don't get Halladay. You get the Cards into the playoffs with Holliday and Pujols and Carpanter and Wainwright (sp?) they have as good as chance as any to make the WS, and they proved in 06, anything can happen
  10. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4350887 Cards and Oak having discussions regarding Holliday Edit: LOL, OK, I obviously missed the f'n thread about this!
  11. 2005 ALDS Game 1 and the Cubs/Sox game at Wrigley when AJ hit a homerun to go ahead in the top of the 9th of Demptser
  12. Meltzer said down to Rogers or Belfort and Fedor's people prefer Rogers. Rogers has had no camp and is going in cold, but the 500k would be something like 6x the money he's made in his career.
  13. QUOTE (rackemup @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) He throws a perfect game and gets congratulated by getting his name spelled wrong by the masses on Twitter. P.S. The post game show on CSN was longer than the game. it's still awesome that it got that much attention!
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) Check out nsbb.com some time. Most cubs fans are cubs fans because they are miserable people. The rest are transplants from out of state. exactly, screw them. Their team is bad this year and most of it has to come back next year. They're miserable people or people who don't care about baseball and are into it for the party. A caller on ESPN radio waited an hour and a half to say the Cubs 5-2 road trip was more important than the perfect game and the 3 guys just laughed at him.
  15. I wouldn't be shocked if the Sox moved Dotel
  16. Awesome! Mark definitley makes it so much fun to be a Sox fan.
  17. for sanity sake I'm going to go golfing and check updates on my phone
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) Wasnt that at Hoops? I swear he broke MJ's rib or something like that, and everyone kept it very hush hush yes, that's exactly it, Boers & Bernstein were basically the only ones in Chi who talked about it. If I remember correctly they reported he basically bodyslammed him
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying if Hawk perceives that we got slighted by an ump and the next batter takes advantage, he reacts exactly like the Rays announcers did last night. exactly, in fact, he doesn't end at the next batter, as long as the inning goes he blames a borderline call
  20. if the Rays could get Lee or Halladay that would be a tremendous 3 team race
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) Where are you seeing that BearSox said that Zimmerman does nothing for him? He just said that Zimmerman was the only competent player on the team and that he is untouchable. I think there was another post that said something like that, but it must have been deleted. Dont think it was Bearsox though edit: I just saw your reply exactly, maybe should have put Dunn's name in my original post, I was just trying to point out that there's another no brainer good player, offensively at least, on the team, hence not giving the name originally. In fact there were 3 other competent players I thought of automatically on that team including Dunn
  22. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) I'm not sure where the Sox would get Dunn into the lineup if Q is healthy. I'd love to get Zimmerman. The Nats can't give him up without a fan revolt even though the Sox could offer a package that would make both teams better. Nice trade idea though. If the Sox let Dye or Thome go I would like the Sox to see if they can get Dunn in the offseason
  23. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) Wait, what? Who we talking about here? http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/dunnad01.shtml Adam Dunn I know his defense isn't good, but he's a competent ballplayer, as is Lannan and Nick Johnson
  24. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) Not exactly something we as Sox fans can really complain about, considering Hawk will still be b****ing about a bad call from the 2nd well into the 8th inning. It makes me cringe when he does that because I know other fans are listening to him and thinks "wow, the Sox announcers are such whiners." he did do my favorite Hawk move last night, which he hasn't done too much this year. It's when he complains about a non-strike call for a Sox pitcher, they show the replay and he yells "where was that?" and it's obvious that it was a ball. I believe the one last night was obviously low and outside
  25. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 10:14 AM) Nationals aren't trading Zimmerman. They just signed him to a cheap extension, and he's the only competent ball player they have on the team. Really? 40 HRs for 5 straight years (and on his way to the 6th), over 100 walks for 5 straight years, and a career OPS+ of 131 does nothing for you? Why because he strikesout a lot?
