  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:09 PM) This is Chicago, not Kansas City, not Minnesota, not Detroit, not Baltimore, not Milwaukee. This is a major market with a relatively high standard of living being achieved. Prices are not going to be what they are in Cincinnati. Get over it. Sox fans are probably some of the most finnicky, most prone to complaining and whining, and defensive people in all of sports. The Dodgers series should have drawn better; it was a series against the best team in baseball right now, one of the mlb's historic franchises, a team from another major market, etc. I don't think there is any question that the team should have drawn better that series. I fully understand what market this team is in, they raised prices on tickets and parking and as someone pointed out dumped the 2nd biggest % of salary to the Padres. OK, maybe they should have drawn better for the Dodgers series, but who is to say they won't draw better in the future this year? Maybe I've seen the economy completely gut good people and businesses and am a little sensitive to a comment like this at this time, but I won't apologize for thinking that KW should have not made this comment
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:01 PM) I really don't get the anger over his comments. He didn't say the fans sucked, he didn't say the team was unappreciated, he said their numbers are off of what they expected. I don't understand why that is such a venomous statement. I swear, White Sox fans are incredibly thin-skinned and defensive, whether it comes to the Cubs, the attendance, or an outsider being objective about the organization. He points to the Dodgers series which was a premium series in the middle of the week and on top of it, the Sox raised ticket prices and parking and dumped payroll and the biggest thing is in this economy the comment shouldn't be made.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 10:53 PM) Payroll went down from last year. According to USA today, only SD had a bigger pct. decrease. This is also setting up for the offseason so that 40m that gets off the books will be replaced by "The Kids Can Play" part II. This is really insulting as a White Sox fan for KW to say this stuff.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 10:43 PM) Not only does the economy suck, but ticket and parking prices were raised, plus we made moves more in salary dump mode than trying to win mode this winter, so ripping the fans is just stupid. And how is the Dodgers series an eye opener? It should be an eye opener that the people in our ticket office are freaking morons for charging premium prices for a midweek series against an NL team in June right before the Cubs visit. The idiocy of whoever made that decision is the eye opener. Not only that, but it will give media outlets more reason to pile on the Sox. This quote will be plastered all over the place. This was a completely unecessary finger to the fans from KW. I'm one of his biggest supporters, but this was in poor taste
  5. God, this drives me nuts. This economy is terrible and a lot of people are suffering horribly. If it's really an issue shut-up about it
  6. This ticks me off. The Sox jack ticket prices and parking, dump some good player for prospects and in the middle of a bad economy he is going to come out and say this?
  7. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) Aram out 2 months, Soriano in a 6 week slump, Harden being on DL and hasn't been very good this season, Bradley in a season long slump and a DL stint, Pot Head catcher not hitting until late June, Zambrano being on 15 day DL and suspended, having no 2nd baseman since trading DeRosa, Marmol having issues, Gregg blowing quite a few saves, etc. Soriano- arguably in the decline of his career, might not be something "wrong" might be a trend Harden- the guy is always injured, Cubs realistically couldn't count on him and Wells gave them great fill in Bradley- completely dumb signing, benefited from an awesome lineup and hitters park and playing DH. He is notoriously glass and asking him to play the field on a regular basis was a bad idea Soto- He did nothing in his minor league career before 2 years ago that would have made people thought he was a prospect, last year could be chalked up to career year or he's had "help" DeRosa? They traded him, that wasn't something that went wrong, if they counted on a 29 and 28 year olds to duplicate great seasons then that's their fault. Gregg- Wasn't anywhere near an elite closer, his performance shouldn't be a shock. So that leaves A-Ram and Marmol in things that have "gone wrong" but basically everyone has dealt with injuries to an important player and bullpen guys can be up and down year to year. This is a $140 million payroll, the performance to this point is inexcusable
  8. I think the celebrity that hit me the hardest was Jim Valvano. I was in Jr. high and I remember being so impressed/awed by how he handled himself in light of his disease that was a death sentence. I am not a sappy person, but numerous times I have suggested to friends to watch his speech from the ESPYs. I hope that I can live my life with that much spirit as a healthy 30 year old, much less a man with a family who was dying.
  9. lackluster final 2 games of the trip, but a 5-2 trip and picking up good ground on 1st place was great. Hopefully the day off will help and with TCQ looming, things can only get better!!
  10. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Chemistry is huge in baseball. Probably bigger in baseball than any other sport, IMO. there have been many teams that couldn't stand each other, the NYY weren't fond of Reggie and the A's of the 70's would get in to fist fights in the clubhouse. When a team wins chemistry is spun
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) JUNIOR SEASON (2008) Saw action in all 12 games as a backup wide receiver ... Pulled in nine catches for 106 yards ... Caught one pass for a season-long 21 yards against Ole Miss ... Reeled in one pass for 15 yards against Troy and caught one pass for 19 yards against Appalachian State ... Hauled in two passes for 16 yards against North Texas ... Pulled in two catches for 16 yards against Auburn ... Tied a season high with two catches for 19 yards in the Chick-fil-A Bowl versus Georgia Tech Correct, I think what the other poster heard was he didn't participate in spring football activities this year. Mitchell even had a quote someone posted on the board that winning the WS and MOP were a great way to end his career, so it sounds like he intends to sign
  12. I was surfing sherdog.com and there's a few threads with links to croation news papers saying Lorenzo got a deal done with Cro Cop to come back to the UFC
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 09:32 PM) Rangers reportedly borrow a large sum from MLB to make payroll. ick, I wonder how many teams are going to have to do this
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) If we could get him in the Viciedo price range, I think we'd push it. I'm just not sure that the Yankees won't come in and beat what everyone else would consider fair market value. I agree with you, the NYY or Red Sox will push it to around 30-40m IMO
  15. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) It's a good record, but a bit overproduced. I bet those songs kill live, though - I will find that out on the 13th. Me too. Thank God for presales, I was able to get good seats, I'm too old for GA anymore!
  16. http://100.ufc.com/#/trailer/ Very good site for 100. About a week away, can't wait... this is just a guess on my part, but I think we might see the gladiator opening retired and they have a new opening
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) If the Marlins offered Hanley for Slayer straight up, would you do it? Please say yes. This time last year, the idea of Quentin for Lincecum came up, and everyone said you had to keep TCQ. I would drive Beckham to Florida.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) When you're left handed, you'll always have a job somewhere. You have to wonder why Jimmy Gobble is still on our roster. The bad thing here is, his change-up is his best pitch. Yikes. Looks like that's the formula to beat the Sox this year: throw a bad left-handed pitcher with a change-up that everybody else hits. what are his splits like? Will we see Ramon again?
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) Yeah I think your point about it affecting 2009-2010 in a negative way is probably true, and they realize that. It's a move about the future though, and this team wasn't going to conted for a title in 2009-2010 anyways. I'd guess they will sign a backup shooting guard to a 1 year deal in the meantime though, like a Marquis Daniels or Dahntay Jones. EDIT: The Bulls have already contacted Daniels. http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Marquis+Daniels+/ Just heard a clip of a Gordon interview from earlier today on ESPN 1000, basically even though the Bulls GM said he would be the number one priority, Gordon said the Bulls didn't even make him an offer or barely contact him. So it sounds like the Bulls had little interest in resigning him, which as I said above, I'm OK with.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) He could pass for Kung Fu Panda. It totally fits. The first time I heard it was on MLBN and I nearly died laughing. He moves exactly like it.
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) Who? Pablo Sandoval... the best nickname in baseball right now.
  22. I'm OK with the Bulls not reupping with Gordon. He's a good player, no doubt, but I just don't see him making the Bulls significantly better. It might effect the 2009-10 win total in a negative way, but might positively effect going into the future.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) Doesn't Levine realize that this info has been obvious for months now? That's not exactly breaking news. I probably didn't write the post in a propper manner, he wasn't saying it as breaking news. He was just pointing out how odd it is that a team worth 900 million dollars is getting no input from any owner other than don't add payroll. He was saying there's little to no communication about any matters
  24. I'm a huge Green Day fan and finally got a chance to give the new album quality listens... I am pleased
  25. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) Dale said in his press conference yesterday that with the way the Hossa deal was signed, it'll allow more lee-way in extending Kane, Toews, and Keith next offseason. However, next offseason, Ladd is also a UFA. He'll likely be gone and at that point, we might be looking to deal Campbell. If we can't deal him, Sopel will likely be shipped out (thank god). One of the most important thing any sports franchise can have is superior scouting, meaning knowing what your team has and who is expendable but still has value on the trade market (I think the White Sox have been very good at this). Looks like the Blackhawks will be tested on this.
