QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) Twins sign Scott Baker to a new deal 4yr/$13.5 mil. The deal buys out his arbitration years, and a club option for his first year of free agency. I imagine Joe Mauers extension is next It will be interesting to see with the market as it is now if alot of quality young players are going to be willing to sign the contracts that take up the last few years of arbitration in exchange for a few years of their free agency. I bet some are willing to ride arbitration as it goes and hope the economy comes back and not get tied into a long term deal

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) Is anyone else starting to worry about Juan Pierre? Bad contract, yes, but he wants a trade, and Kenny wants him. yeah, I'm worried. Not that he's all that worse than the options now, the Sox have done a great job of clearing a ton of salary after this season and don't want to see them add more for Juan Pierre. If the Dodgers are willing to eat a vast majority of it, I wouldn't object too much.

I didn't read the books, generally hate long movies (not that long movies can't be good, but because generally movies are longer than they need to be) and I avoided learning too much about Watchmen before seeing it and I thought it was awesome.

Tigers Lose 14,000+ Season Tickets From '08?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) Chicago doesn't have nearly the economic collapse worries that Detroit currently does. That and a lot of the Sox current heavy contracts are gone after this year, so the Sox would just have to eat it for a year and be back at square one after the season where the Tigers have alot of money sticking around. Man, Fukudome helped the Sox dodge a major bullet by taking the Cubs offer -
I doubt he'll take a back up or platoon role, but if he's willing to I would hope KW would consider it.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Small businesses never seem to spend the money for the accounting that they need. My wife's place of employment(which I am withholding) is no different, they have had a few problems in that department since she has worked there. Yeah, that's usually it. They often dump it on someone who has 100 other responsabilities and it gets lost in the shuffle. The last place I worked at was the direct opposite, everything else was messed up but they had a part timer who had a CPA do the accounting and that ran well.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) WBC just referred to a player as: "He reminds me of former White Sox great Willie Harris" Finally the rest of the world has recognized Willie's status. Ha, that's awesome.

Wow, if that's true that's crazy. I wonder if they tried to dump some of those guys but no interest due to the contracts. -
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) While I understand some of the complaints, I really don't understand why 99% of baseball fans don't enjoy it. It's March 7th. The alternative to watching the WBC is watching the Sox and Rangers play 4 innings of decent baseball, followed by hot garbage. Give me Canada vs. USA over any ST game. I'm someone who is against it, but still enjoying watching higher caliber baseball at this point. The reason I don't like it is the people who just put so much "national pride" behind it. This means nothing to me as far as being a U.S. citizen. In fact I was rooting for the young canadian pitcher to get out of the bases loaded jam because it would be more interesting from a baseball perspective (and damn, he looked nasty). It is something Bud just made up 4 years ago and people want to wave flags and insult people who don't "support their country." It's nonsense to me. If a used car dealer created an international ping pong tournament and I didn't support the U.S. I'm all of a sudden not patriotic or have pride in my country? I don't care how people watch it, doesn't bother me one bit, what gets me is the people who feel the need to attack people because they don't support the U.S. or whaterver. Also, MLB is a billion dollar industry with million dollar players. I don't want players from the team I support playing in it because IMO the injury factor is higher. Am I right? Who knows, but I think the risk is there and I'm glad Danks said no to it. There's no need for it, the best players in the world (minus some Japanese players due to their posting system and other one off situations I'm sure exsist) play in MLB. So as a baseball fan I loved that inning with the Canadian kid facing a U.S. lineup of top players and getting out of a jam and I was impressed by it. I would have enjoyed it equally if he was pitching for the U.S., Canada or Joe's Bar. Also, I love how the announcers were wondering why Derek Jeter was replaced and completely ignore the fact that he is a terrible defensive shortstop.

is this a troll job? Cotts is not very good. Stop listening to Cubs fans, their management and their announcers who are trying to convince everyone that they're bullpen is good on paper. On paper it's average.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) Ya. I think Lee's was a little bit different of an injury. Plus Q has way more raw power. someone explained it, I think ptac did it on this board, that Q's wrist injury was in a different spot
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) It really is. Flowers, Kroeger, Becks, Alexei, Q, Viciedo batting in a row. Sexy. Not only that, but the Sox are shedding a ton of payroll after this year, they can supplement with quality FAs if needed or keep some of the guys around
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) The game I saw on Sunday would make me disagree. He was swinging at everything. Any reports on Quentin's health so far this year? Oh, and seeing Beckham, Ramirez, Quentin, and Viciedo bat in an inning is definitely boner-inducing. I've heard on the Score and ESPN 1000 that the Sox are saying he's 100%

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 05:51 PM) Not as much as car salesmen. I am dreading buying a new car here this month because no matter what happens, you always lose. I really luck out on both these fronts. For car salesmen my friend's family is in the business so I got a good deal with no crap. For mechanics we have a guy we really trust.

OK, I might get flamed, but I'm really not that excited for this. I do like Curb, and loved Seinfeld in the moment, but to me it's had a hard time holding up in reruns barring a handful of episodes.

QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) For the Sox, the schedule pitchers in this game are... Egbert Carrasco Dotel Jimenez Russell ah, I was wondering what happened to Carrasco.

OK, I have to admit it, Jimmy Falon's (sp?) show isn't a complete trainwreck.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) I thought the same thing, but not so. Apparently the companies accountant wasnt doing her job correctly, and as a result no longer has a job. I'm always amazed at the stories of some of my friends who work for a small business, or even medium sized ones, that have trouble with payroll even when the company is doing good business

ESPN said there's a small chance Manny gets an AB in this game. Who is chucking for the LAD and the CHW?

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) Red (70's show) Good call. That show had about two wheelhouse seasons right in the middle that were absolutely hysterical.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) How hard can "Throw ball to Fitzgerald" really be? Leinart struggled with out routes at the combine, his arm isn't very strong -
QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 11:01 PM) These characters from "Oz": Dino Ortolani, Jefferson Keane, Christopher Keller, Ryan O'Reilly, Augustus Hill, Kareem Said, Shirley Bellinger, Vern Schillenger, Simon Adebisi, Raul Hernandez, and Miguel Alvarez. Best tv show ever. I was also a big fan of Warden Leo Glynn, Clayton Hughes, John "Desmond Mobay" Basil, Bruno Georgen, Pancamo, Father Ray Mukada, Martin Querns, Jazz Hoyt, Timmy Kirk, Karl Metzger, Johnny Post, Che Guerra, and Kenny Wangler. ...thanks a lot, now I'm in the mood to watch some "Oz". Oz was an excellent show, but for me a few of the middle seasons didn't work very well, specifically when they got into the jail guard stories. With that said it was still an excellent show

Saw on espn scroll that Warner is in SF taking a physical and meeting with Singletary. Stupid move by the Cards. I've made a lot of bad predictions on draft picks, but I think I'm right about Leinart, the guy isn't very good.
