  1. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) Rarely will I go see a band that I like if they are opening for a bigger band. Their time allowed is shorter, the sound usually sux, the house lights are on and people are strolling in finding their seats. Not to mention the price of the ticket will be at least double. An opening slot is just not the same. I've done it a few times, Bad Religion opened for Pearl Jam, Quicksand opened for the Deftones (I actually didn't stay to see the Deftones)
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) Apparently the Bears are one of two teams he favors. Get this s*** done. I think the entire Bears camp would be in awe of a QB with an arm like Cutler's. John Clayton was on ESPN radio last night and off the top of his head he thought it would be a 1 and a 3 and then a 2 next year. He also said the Bears might not have high enough picks to get it done.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 01:59 AM) Very nice. You got me caught up to date. I read every word of your long post. Thank you very much. I'm caught up and I like what I hear from you about Fields. Wow on Owens. Sounds like he's done as a Sox if he doesn't make the squad. It's also worth pointing out that the starting pitching depth is promising. Colon and Jose have come back quicker than anyone thought and looks like they have a good shot at take the 4 and 5 spots out of spring, letting the younger starters go down to AAA and be there in case they are needed
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 09:20 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Aglh...o&type=lgns Jeff Passon (yahoo sports) in-depth coverage of the controvery with many quotes (albeit none from HC). ESPN's crawl had a quote from him. The gist was basically people shouldn't of booed because people can have different political views.
  5. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) wtf @ test dieing? WTF is with these wrestlers man.. The lifestyle so many of them lead is just so bad and those habits are hard to break. Some of those guys work like 250-300 days a year on the road
  6. Cubano, this question may come off ignorant and naive, which I'm sorry if it does, it's just I don't know anything about how this works. What keeps the players from trying to defect when they're in Mexico? Do they have guards with them at all times?
  7. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) When will the Mike North national nightmare finally end? Luckily for the nation this disaster is only centralized to the Chicagoland area... Come on, he owned a hot dog stand and says racist things, he's loveable!!
  8. If he's really out there I hope Angelo makes a serious run at him
  9. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) LOL at those announcers. Marmol is "one of the greatest closers in the game." Dude has 8 career saves. They were also saying how awesome Marmol was, if you go to the Cubs or Yankees the national media will trump you and look at no facts.
  10. http://www.footballfanatics.com/WorldBaseballClassic_Cuba that should do it
  11. I believe Jessie Rogers went over there. Like everything else Mike North does I will avoid at all costs
  12. maybe because I expected a complete trainwreck and didn't get that, I give it a slight thumbs up. The parody of "The Hills" made me laugh
  13. http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/evans-exp...at-ufc-98-16510 Nothing official still, but Evans thinks it will be Machida
  14. I'm really curious to see how A-Rod comes back on defense. If he's limited and they have Jeter, who is a terrible defensive SS, out there with him, that left side of the infield could be terrible
  15. QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) I'm kinda blah about last night. Some real quick KO's but it annoys me on sloppy MMA stand up is. These guys need to learn to keep the hands up after throwing punches. No wonder there are so many KO's these days, people just leave themselves wide open for attacks. Standup is kind of a weird monster in MMA. Any traditional martial arts stance is going to get you f'd up in MMA since most of them focus on a specific type of striking and leaves you wide open to takedowns or strikes to certain parts of the body. This includes boxing. Look at a traditional boxing stance, you are far more open/facing your foe, in MMA it would be goofy footwork for a sprawl, basically throwing both your legs straight back like a flop and give the guy a better chance for a double leg. Also, it's harder to check a kick from that stance. A very traditional Kempo stance has the hands low, Chuck and Hackleman using their form of Kempo did a good job addressing that and Chuck is/was excellent at protecting himself and stuffing takedowns. Many people try to say UFC protected chuck with a bunch of strikers, but that really isn't true, he did an excellent job of stuffing takedowns early and takedowns take ALOT out of a fighter, so many guys just stopped. I mean during his prime he beat Randy twice (one loss to him), Vitor, Tito, Babalu, Horn... those guys have good takedowns and ground games. Also, he had an awesome ability to get up if taken down. http://sherdog.com/fighter/Chuck-Liddell-192 You are right though a decent amount is guys just being stupid, not protecting themselves. A little of that has to do with having to protect kicks to the midsection. When Cro Cop got nailed by Gonzaga you can see that's what kind of happened. He dropped his hand because I think he didn't believe Gonzaga had a head kick in his game, when he dropped his hand to protect a lower kick he gets highlight reeled
  16. QUOTE (vandy125 @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 12:58 AM) Their response afterwords were just as good: the best part about "the code of silence" is the second someone involved in the crime sits down with the cops 99% start spilling their cuts and throwing everyone under the bus.
  17. QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 10:28 PM) um, the name is pronounced the way we americans decide it's pronounced. damn right! (goes outside and fires gun in air!)
  18. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) I personally like looking at expert mock drafts. I'm a big fantasy guy, so I have my own rankings, but looking at how the "experts" are drafting, you get an idea of where you should expect players to go, and what their proper value is. http://www.mockdraftcentral.com/draft_grid.jsp?id=93768 http://www.mockdraftcentral.com/draft_grid.jsp?id=95452 Cool thanks. I agree with you and use mock drafts to prepare, ie if I have a sleeper I kind of know what round to reach for him. Luckily I'm usually in leagues with many Cubs fans so I usually get a bargain or two in the midrounds when Cubs players are drafted too high
  19. I haven't paid much attention to the lineups this spring, has Beckham been facing MLB pitchers or has he been subbing late?
  20. I guess I should prepare for my fantasy draft, any suggestions on where to go? We use cbs.sportsline.com, so they usually have OK stuff, but like to look at a few different sources. Hopefully I can't make it and my friend will have to draft for me with my notes, usually that overcomes my petty hatred for players and I get better teams
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) Signs was okay until the aliens showed up in the last 15-20 minutes (back when Joaquin Phoenix had a little energy to move around and swing a bat!)...but The Village, The Lady in the Water, Unbreakable, etc. He's getting progressively worse, a one-trick pony that could never live up to the hype he projected about himself and the arrogance with which he dealt with Hollywood and the media while he was a "hot commodity," not to mention his "cutesy" cameo appearances in his movies. I really liked Signs alot and wasn't a big fan of his movies up until that point. The Village was silly, but I enjoyed that as well. Outside of those two I'm not the biggest fan of his stuff.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) There better not be a sequel. Alan Moore will have them burned alive if they try. BTW, lovin' that Silk Spectre II. IMDB already has a rumored Elektra Luxx (sp?) movie up, that may be why the got a younger women to play her so they can make the prequel
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) The saving grace though is the fight vs Silva was over really fast and even though it went 3 rounds vs Jardine, Rampage really didnt take any big hits that would take some recovery time. Id assume given a week or two he would be fine to start training for his next fight. He had a quick turnaround from his last fight and since he goes to England to train, Meltzer said he isn't too thrilled about having to take two weeks off then have an 8 week camp. I'm fine with Evans/Machida then Rampage fights the winner http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templa...44&zoneid=2 (MMAweekly.com article with quotes from Rampage about feeling overtrained)
  24. PPV ended up being entertaining tonight, lots of quick KOs and the Rampage/Jardine fight was good, just short of great, but very good too tired and too busy tomorrow to stay up and watch a DREAM feed, they have 3 top ten lightwights in Aoki, Ishida and Kawjiri fighting tonight. If the UFC could get 2 or all 3 of those guys, LW would be as staked as the 205 division is.
