I didn't mind Dore, maybe because I'm just kind of use to him. I like Funk, so that should be a smooth transition. Maybe Dore advised Pax that you can't give up Deng for Kobe!

QUOTE (Nokona @ May 6, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) sources indicate pat foley will return Sweet. That is some pretty awesome news if the sources are right. I figured something was up when he never took another job elsewhere. I had always thought he would go to one of the other pro teams in the city though. I believe his stance for taking the Wolves job was not wanting to move his family out of the Chicago area.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 6, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) Supers would start jumping to Obama at a record pace and might force her out. what number do you think this happens at? Meaning Hillary winning Ind. but getting handily beaten in NC (let's say 10 or more points). Is 5% in Indiana enough? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) Whether or not it's his fault I care not...at this point, the only reasonable move, given that you can't just change 6 slots in the lineup, is a new coach. I'm with you. I don't know enough about the inside and outs of baseball to tell you if this is Walker's fault or not, but this offense has been slumping way too long and something has to change. KW decided to basically stick with the same players, so the coach has to go. Maybe the same stuff with a new voice will work. You cannot have this strong of pitching on a trip and have nothing to show for it

the call at 3rd I had no problem with. There was a ton of dust flying around so it was hard to see on the replay, but I thought his hand got in right before Crede tagged the bag.

good read. I consider myself a moderate person, I don't identify with either party on enough issues to label myself one or the other. However, after the Gore and Kerry defeats I really noticed and was turned off by the whole "red vs. blue" state thing. I thought many liberals didn't do enough to accept that their canditate loss and try to move forward, instead there was a weird isolation of the middle part of the country, or the "fly over states". SNL actually did a good bit about this, i think it was Smeigel (sp?) with Santa Claus being a dem and refusing to deliver toys to the red states.

Not sure, but first time I've posted about this call, and I'm not a huge fan of blaming the umps for stuff, but that was an absolutely horrible blown call. I am in agreement with the Hawk that it's not the 2nd base umps fault, there was zero chance of him seeing the tag, but the other umps have to step up and correct it. OC should have never made any other effort to show a tag since the runners knee ran into his mitt with the ball. Awful.

wow, Soriano completely falling apart in the outfield, 2 plays he completely botched
-
wow, just awful. The fact that Juan Uribe had the best approach at the plate all night is sad. I've posted this before, but I'll say it again... maybe Walker isn't the problem, but after this team has slumped offensively this long, you have to launch him.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 2, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) any word on who's taking the cuban's place? edit: nevermind, just read about Russell in Reifert's blog. Can someone give us a brief scouting report on Russell

QUOTE (daa84 @ May 1, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) wow i was following the game on gameday in the library....went to go get a coke, in the bottom of the 8th...came back to see the final...beautiful...sounds like pineilla had some gems after the game too I read WGN had a replay of him flipping a water cooler over after Braun's double. Just reading the play-by-play seems that Soriano and Fukudome should of had both those balls (Note: I have not seen the plays, just going off what the "in the cubicle" from chicagosports.com said)

I'll run this off the top of my head, seems like limiting it to 5 is the way to go... 1. Ric Flair- no brainer, love his act and the way he evolved his character in the twilight of his career, I still laugh everytime riding Space Mountain is referenced. 2. Mick Foley- just an absolute freak. His interviews are epic and he delivers in the ring. Had a chance to meet him and he was one of the nicest people you could hope to meet. 3. Hulk Hogan- Going all time, he HAS to be on it. I'll give you he is odd and turned into a pain in his later years, but he was in his prime when I was young and getting into wrestling. 4. The Sandman- Yeah, total garbage wrestling, but still entertaining as hell. 5. RVD- spectacular, easily worth the price of admission at all the ECW shows in Chicago Honorable mentions -The Dudley Boyz in ECW- their act in ECW was tremendous, they were a heat machine. -Couple of Japanese wrestlers that I followed via the tape trade that I didn't see enough of to crack the top 5 but are worth mentioning; Matsunga "Mr. Danger", Mr. Pogo, Hayabusa, Takayama (if only for his MMA match with Don Frye) -currently, I like the work of the American Dragon -
I really cannot believe the Cubs made Kerry Wood an important part of their team this year. Cubs fans should be rioting if Marmol doesn't get slotted into the closers role ASAP. (this is the edit: to be fair he did have a great '03 that helped propel them to the NLCS, 5 outs of the WS) WTF is it with the Cubs and Wood? He had an awesome rookie season and a 20k game, that was roughly 10 years ago. The smartest thing The Cubs did last year was not count on him and Prior and anything they gave them would be gravy, then in the offseason they make him their closer?!??!

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) Matsui, Dye, Pence and Hawpe as buy-low candidates. Best thing to do is figure out who has a shaky ss and look at who he has. Most teams won't want Renteria in the util slot, so you'll need to find someone with a weak ss or mi. thanks

QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) We had 9 hits and 3 walks. It's frustrating when you leave runners on, but if we get a hit everytime there are runners on then I'm pretty sure our offense would be unparalleled in the history and future of the game, and it wouldn't even be worth playing games anymore. That goes for all teams, at all levels. Everyone does it (LOB's), and I think fans of teams who get shut out often(which has happened once, maybe twice to us this year) have more of a right to complain. At least we put runners on base... Carlos jacked another, Uribe is drifting closer to the Mendoza line, BA got 3 hits, and Swisher walked twice. Worse games have been played, dear Chicken Little's, and worse will be played... The starting pitching has kept me going. They really have thrown some nice outings out there, especially with Floyd and Danks looking good against different teams. Masset has thrown well this year too. -

lol, anyone swing by SOSH or other Red Sox boards when they get swept by the Rays? I'm not comparing us to the Red Sox, but I'm wondering what those were like -
Well, this needs a bump. Coming into the season it was a rough opening month. After it is all said and done they're over .500 and in first by a game and a half. Yes, I know they took advantage of the Tigers when they were down, but that's a good thing! They beat a team when they were vulnerable, nothing wrong with that

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) Ramirez, Owens and Fields serve no purpose with this team as they all need regualr AB's. The Sox need a Mackowiak type. I think after last year Fields can be solid bench player at this point in his career.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) Considering half the lineup is new to this team, how can you say they havent hit for seasons now? exactly. Maybe I'm watching it with a filter, but a lot has to do with the approach. The lift and pull method doesn't allow for dinkers or oppo hits to drop in, it gives Ks or homers -
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) Looking at the Knights box, looks like Fields got pulled early, and the game wasn't a blow out...... Tony, don't get my hopes up!!! If I was KW, I would send Alexei down, let him play every day, even shuffle up the positions so he gets experience in the INF and OF. Then bring Fields up. Owens shouldn't touch any of our 4 OFers right now, and then you have a legitimate power PHer and maybe DH him against guys who are super tough on lefties

QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) That AB by Swisher was horrible. I think it's time to get him out of leadoff and hit 2nd or 6th. Trade Dye and let Owens lead off. I hate losing winnable games. Swisher scored a run after walking then drove a run in with a single later in the game. I'll give you he isn't hitting a lick for AVG. or SLG. but he is getting on base. Swisher hitting leadoff is not the problem -
QUOTE (LetsTalkAboutSoxBaby @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) Any chance Alexei's work visa works in Charlotte? I sure hope so... I agree with this, but I don't want to trash Alexei. I think he has some talent, but he needs to get regular ABs every day, he has had little to zero chance to adjust with this spot duty he's been asked to do.

If this offense sputters for much longer it gets to the point, whether it is Walker's fault or not, they have to change hitting coaches. The players aren't going anywhere, maybe a different voice will make a difference. It is grasping at straws, but with last year and this recent stretch, they can't sit on their hands, the SPing has been way too good -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) Swing the freaking bat! The next 30 hours or so before the next game should be fun. I think everyone on the 25 man roster will be traded or benched on this board. they need to send Ramirez down and try and pick up a legit bat off the bench. I think A-Ram has a ton of talent, but he needs to get regular ABs and the bench just has nothing on it
